Yeah man it was fucking out of this world ood, I had heard great things about it for years but never got around to watching it until recently and it blew me away, I wish I could give it a higher rating than ****1/4 but I wouldn't feel right going higher. Still, that match was absolutely one of if not the most brutal match I've ever seen, and they didn't even use weapons. I mean by the end when Joe is literally covered in Necro's blood from head to foot, you're just left with your jaw wide open like "Oh my God, Joe might LITERALLY murder this man...like he may be dead". Great, great, great match.
Tell me about it, man. I still watch that match in awe when Necro gets up after being driven head first into the concrete floor. That was easily the most brutal spot I've ever seen. And I agree with you... this could be the most brutal match ever. Fuck being thrown off a hell in a cell or getting cut with a weed wacker... this here was just a good, old-fashion brawl with an insane amount of violence and blood, that all felt REAL. Seriously, watching that, no matter how "smart" anyone is to the business, there has to be a small part of you that thinks when watching this match, "Damn, they must really fucking hate each other!"
Also, another thing so awesome about the match was that there had to be no more than 200 people there, but fuck were they loud and really into the match. The crowd pops/reactions in that match were every bit as loud as the HBK/Taker match from 'Mania last year. That's unbelievable.
I was really let down by the rematch 6 months later though, good stiff fun contest but nowhere even close to their first match.
Yeah, I was to, but there was no way they could top the first match, anyway.
I've grown to become a bit of a Necro Butcher fan recently honestly, after listening to a shoot he did (the guy is VERY intelligent and well-spoken, which I would never have guessed) and he's had some absolutely phenomenal matches with guys like Joe and Low-Ki, brutal without using garbage wrestling.
I used to despise Necro until I saw his first match against Joe. After that I couldn't help but respect him, and then of course he went on to join AOTF and do some terrific stuff in ROH, and have a great part in The Wrestler... I would definitely call myself a fan of his. Hopefully one day he can get the paycheck he so deserves for everything he has sacrificed for the business.
And yeah... as a person, there don't seem to be many in the business better than him. From all accounts his treats his fans like family, and as you said... he's just an intelligent, well-spoken individual.
