WWE Wrestlemania XXVII Live Discussion

I'm just logging on and haven't read what's been said already. My first instinct is to say this was a pretty shit mania. It could have easily been better. Terrible booking and time management ruined this show. As usual there was a crowd of people and a lot of distractions while I was watching so I have to give it more attention another time, but I don't think this one is going to fall pretty low on the mania ranking list.

In the mid-card or upper-mid-card, yes. Main event? No. Seriously, dude. You just reek of blind behavior.
OK, they'll just have main events with guys who are high as all fuck and unfit to perform......... This right after ending a #1 contender match in a double countout, only for a rematch to end in a draw, then one more rematch to end in a draw, then have one guy win over the other, only for it to be refused a week later by the winner of the match.....

So I could have Jim Duggan come down and beat up Miz and Cena and it's OK because he's a "LEGEND"? Legend or not, he's still inactive.
No, the difference is that Rock actually has reason to attack these guys. The Rock (one of the biggest stars in the history of the business) has a month long beef with both Miz and John Cena. Hence why he finally got the upper hand one week. And yes, it'll ultimately

That is way too fucking long. What's gonna happen in the 5 months before that? All out there in the dark? The same thing over and over again on every PPV? Well?
No, they move on to other stuff for a while, before Rock comes back a month or so before the matches. Much like what they did when Hogan had his part-time stuff with HBK, or with Randy Orton.

Actually, that was pretty funny, and Santino is (especially then) rather over. But it could be worse.

Coming in 5 months! Miz vs The Rock! Coming in 12 months. Cena vs The Rock!
And you know what? People would still tune in for the whole fucking time, because both Cena and Rock are good enough to make that long of a feud interesting.
Ah, look. Dilemmas are already surfacing.
Dilemmas of having 2 WresleMania worthy Main Event possibilities 365 days before the show airs. If that's a problem, then I'd love to see your idea of not having any problems.

Question: Does anyone know what was going on with Taker at the end of his match? I have been hearing a lot of things. I have read/heard (on tweets, and listening to radio shows) that he messed up his back, that he had a concussion, that he had low blood sugar. Anyone know the real story? I know he was legit hurt at the end because he is the friggen undertaker and he does not get stretchered out, but I just don't know how he was hurt.

Edge vs Alberto Del Rio- This isn't the Royal Rumble. This is not the match to start with here. Aside from an OK match, it was too short.

Cody Rhodes vs Rey Mysterio- This was my favorite part of the show. Great storytelling, great showmanship by Rey and glad to see Cody go over after a great exchange.

The Corre vs The Big Show, Kane, Santino, & Kofi- This made me laugh. The highlight was seeing Kane and Big Show together again.

Randy Orton vs CM Punk- This match had me conflicted. Too slow, but both guys delivered with the acting. The story came around perfectly, but I feel it gave the match a bit of a blow.

Jerry Lawler vs Michael Cole- My God. Too long, oh how long it was. This was somehow overbooked and ended stupidly. "Oh, the blow-off will be worth it". That's what she said. Gimme a break.

Triple H vs Undertaker- Good brawl. But I think it was pretty much on par with their WM 17 match. Still good work. Except for the ending. Triple H acting like Undertaker did last year when he put HBK out just ruined it for me. WM 25 and 26 being similar was enough. Why try it again a third year?

Team Snooki vs Ziggler & Laycool- Hated it. Somehow, the non-wrestler managed to perform a move most Divas botch endlessly and pull it off without flaw. Meanwhile John Morrison and Dolph Ziggler wasted a year's worth of build on the ring apron.

John Cena vs The Miz- The intros are the saving grace for this. The match was too slow, the first ending was disastrous and the second ending turned every single chance of putting The Miz over Cena into all forms of underwhelming. Way to go.

Why not give a mini-review of the show.

Edge vs. Alberto Del Rio

Average match. Good back and forth between them, and the ending seemed to fit. Edge had yet to leave a Wrestlemania with a belt he came in with. He won. Alberto didn't have destiny on his side... and his ride was destroyed. For shame. ***

Cody Rhodes vs. Rey Mysterio

Very underrated match with a huge surprise of Cody going over Mysterio. And to think... no one thought Rhodes would be anywhere near a Wrestlemania. Also... no Dibiase. Just weird huh? ***1/2

The Corre vs. Santino, Coffee, Big Show and Kane

This match needed to be the dark match. You have your Tag Champs, and Intercontinental Champion in the match, but neither belts were put up for grabs. Just plain wasteful and should have been replaced with Bryan and Sheamus. Seriously. *1/2

Randy Orton vs. CM Punk

Well executed match... good psychology, and great, old-school mat wrestling with Orton going over. ***1/2

Michael Cole vs. Jerry Lawler

Poorly organized and poorly executed. It looked like Cole didn't spend ANY time in the ring warming up or anything. This should have been a Lawler beat down with a similar kind of swerve at the end. No need for Cole to do any moves as it makes Lawler look bad and still makes Cole look stupid. Great build for a feud, but very, VERY poorly done.
*

Triple H vs. Undertaker

Best match on the whole card. Those two left it in the ring and Undertaker was literally beaten to death in the match. And STILL kept his streak in tact. Very well done, and HHH showed that he can still go if needed. Just a very fine match overall, but nowhere near HBK/Taker from the last two years. ****

Snooki, Trish, Morrison vs. LayCool and Ralph Ziggler

It is what is is. Surprisingly good performance from Snooki... and I wish to make love to Trish Stratus for hours on end. Her gratuitious butt crack shots all match were welcomed. **

The Miz vs. John Cena

Rather underwhelming match between the two and predictable with The Rock getting involved. I hope this builds to a match at Summerslam. Has to. Glad Miz retained though. **1/2

Yes. Meanwhile, WWE's workers do the same while sober and as originally planned.

It had better lead to a match, but it's still inexcusable to use the main event of Wrestlemania to boost said match.

Who appeared a month before the actual matches.

Yeah. They could book him/her in a match with Vickie Guerrero that takes place on a pig pen.

Meanwhile, WM's main event was intentional with all parties sober.

And you know what? People would still tune in for the whole fucking time, because both Cena and Rock are good enough to make that long of a feud interesting.
Yeah, you. You expect people to wait 365 days for a match?

Not overbooking a main event with sidetracking storylines.

The main page is saying that Orton was pissed about his position on the card. Anyone think he has a reason to be?

Yes. That's 2 years in a row in the undercard for the second biggest star in the company. Edge should also be pissed. he opened the fucking show. With the World title!

Edge isn't the type of guy to let this kind of thing get to him. He knows he has an important place in the company and doesn't need to be told or match placement to prove it.

Orton strikes me as a guy with a false sense of entitlement. He think he's better than everyone. For years we've heard how he complains about working with different guys in the ring. His match wasn't as important as Taker/HHH or the WWE title. Plain and simple. And you can't have back to back to back physical singles matches to close the show. There needs to be something in there to break the monotony which is why Snooki went on so late. Orton's placement on the show was fine and he had probably the second or third best match so he should be happy with that.

My only reply, as I delve deeper and deeper into my bottle of rum. And wait, who is it a reply to. Just one of the many faults I've inevitably left. If you're a smark for this Wrestlemania, revel in that fact. I've never said this before but the highest state of fandome is markville. Whom so'ever loved this mania then enjoy it and don't listen to anybody else.

Myself it felt twas average/poor. I still hope I can justify this when I'm not drunk.

8 things pissed me off.....

1) ALBERTO DEL RIO NEEDED TO WIN, WTF WAS THE POINT OF BUILDING HIM UP SO MUCH TO HAVE HIM LOSE? THEY DID THE SAME SHIT WITH WADE BARRETT.

2) WHC OPENING THE SHOW. RIDICULOUS.

3) COLE/LAWLER MATCH ITSELF WAS EMBARRASING

4) COLE DIDNT GET STUNNERED

5) WTF WAS THE POINT TO BOTH GM EMAILS?

6) SNOOKI MATCH BUZZKILL AFTER HHH/TAKER

7) SHEAMUS/DANIEL BRYAN NOT ON THE CARD IS A DISGRACE

8) DOUBLE COUNT OUT WAS COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY.

Edge/Del Rio: **1/2
Decent, kind of slow paced, but a solidly worked match. Seems like a Smackdown Main Event more than a WM match, though.

Rhodes/Mysterio: **3/4
Another good match, with a better pace and more time. Great storytelling with Cody trying to get Mysterio's knee brace off, then Mysterio getting Cody's mask off and using it on him, with Cody using the knee brace to put Mysterio away in the end.

8 man tag: (0 stars)
Too short to even give a rating. This lasted almost as long as a TNA Main Event.

Orton/Punk: **1/2
Pretty much the same pros/cons list as Edge/Del Rio.

Lawler/Cole: -***
Yes, that's negative three stars. Terrible, too long, slow motion, yadda yadda yadda, this is not a fucking wrestlemania match.

HHH/Taker: ***
Match of the night, but it got a little too strung out at the end. Finisher, kickout/rest, finisher, kickout/rest, finisher, kickout/rest, sledgehammer, gogoplata, match.

Snooki Match: 1/2
Better than the 8 man tag but not by much. Morrison's starship pain spot to the outside was sweet. McCool's constant teasing of the Faith Breaker was cool. Snooki is more athletic than most on-roster Divas.

Cena/Miz: **
Weird match. I felt like Cena was overselling Miz's offense and then 5 moves of doom out of nowhere, followed by a weird sequence leading to the outside and eventual double countout. Rock's overruling of the draw was predictable (like everything else on this PPV) and then him costing Cena the title was something that most people called a month ago. Decent ending.

I didn't watch the whole show, I only watched HHH/Taker & Miz/Cena both completely, otherwise I had it going in the background while I did other things. There were a few things I have gripes with though.

What was the deal with the structure of the show? Why was the garbage, throwaway match of Morrison/Ziggler after Taker/HHH? I can only guess it's because they weren't comfortable timing out the long HHH/Taker and Cena/Miz matches for the last fifty minutes, so they put a match in between that they were comfortable trimming or lengthening if necessary. Regardless though, that was weird, and a buzzkill.

HHH/Taker - Liked the match overall, but had a lot of flaws. The whole idea of just kicking-out of a pile of finishers needs to stop. There was like, three tombstones, a chokeslam, three pedigrees, a last-ride - and I'm probably missing some other things. That's way too many finishers. I can see kicking out of one, but when the last five minutes is just finisher - two minute rest - finisher - two minute rest, it becomes stupid.

I would have liked the finish where HHH beat Taker with the tombstone. IDK about everyone else, but I was convinced that was the finisher. It had like a Flair/HBK vibe to it, and I was digging that. I thought Taker catching HHH in the hell's gate was an awful finish and it felt so anti-climatic. Liked the match though.

Miz/Cena was awful. Fighting to a double count-out is bad enough, but then the Rock's involvement was atrocious as well. That is probably one of the worst ways I think you could have booked that match, and I have no idea why they went with it. Who looked good coming off of that? Not the Miz, not Cena - maybe the Rock? Except I don't think he's back full time, or even part time. Terrible way to end WM. Not impressed.

From what I saw, I give that WM a 6/10.

Also JR's commentary was bad, like 6/10 bad, but they keep him off T.V so what can you expect.

I just want to say now so I can make it vocally clear, those of you who thought the Triple H-Undertaker match sucked, I am sorry, but I am not entirely sure you understand what defines a good wrestling match. Yeah there was a lot of resting. So what? There was tons of resting in the HBK/Taker matches and people were glad to go ****+ without a second thought because of the overall story. That match worked that crowd perfectly. Great stuff.

HBK/Taker 2009: ****
HBK/Taker 2010: ***1/2
HHH/Taker 2011: ***

I'm seeing a trend

Alright, so I am listening to this show right now: http://www.pw247radio.com/PW-chat/ and at least 3 times they have said that Taker legit hurt his lower back and he re-injured his shoulder. I have no idea who these guy's are, and I have been googling for the last hour trying to find where they are getting their info, but I can't find anything. So this could be complete bullshit. Just thought I would share :P I really think it could be true.

Taker wasn't legit hurt, he was selling. If anything, Trips' left arm was legit hurt from that backdrop off the table a couple minutes into the match.

Well said X. It wasn't as good as the HBK/Taker matches for me, but I didn't expect it to be. These two were going to have a totally different and more physical style match which is exactly what happened. I'm pleased to say they surprised me and had what imo was match of the night. Injured or not, Taker and Trips are still two of the absolute best in the business at telling a story and putting on a great match, especially under the big lights. Well done gentleman
