WWE Night Of Champions: General Discussion

Jack-Hammer

YOU WILL RESPECT MY AUTHORITAH!!!!
Earlier tonight on Main Event, Triple H announced that Lesnar will face Cena at NOC as Cena has invoked his rematch clause. So, keep all discussion here until more matches are announced.

with all due respect to the other upcoming matches im sure its safe to say, this will be the most anticipated one of the bunch. Fact is,Cena got destroyed, victimized, and conquered. Everything Lesnar said would happen did happen.. I am not sure if five weeks time,Cena can make all the necessary adjustments he needs.

Kayfabe world can only go so far.. Cena looked scared shitless of Lesnar and was in absolute fear of him.. Cena has overcome everything, thrown into 3 on 1 handicaps, last man standing,I quit matches everything and he has overcome it all.. He needs to become a monster himself that is the only way i can see him taking down Brock..

That would mean a slight tweak of his character, not the kid friendly but the ruthless aggression we once were witnesses too. But I wonder IF Cena loses at NOC,what then? Where does the C-Nation go from here?

This should be the final Night of Champions. The event was amazing from 2007 to 2009, when every match was for a championship. Then in 2010 they put a non-title match on the card, and in 2011 they HEADLINED the event with a non-title match, and it's been meaningless ever since. The event should be cancelled and replaced with one of the classic events, preferably Unforgiven, back in its old September slot.

This is how I imagine the card playing out at this point in time:

The Uso's(c) v Big Show & Mark Henry
Ziggler(c) v Miz
Sheamus(c) v Rusev
Paige(c) v AJ Lee
Reigns v Orton/HHH
Wyatt v Jericho
Lesnar(c) v Cena

Now, I dunno about you guys but if that ends up actually being what the card is then every result seems pretty predictable. I hope that they don't go with results solely for shock value to compensate for that.

EDIT: Am aware that I forgot Rollins v Ambrose II, but have a feeling that they won't have a match at this one do to Ambrose's "injury", to make the next match at HiaC mean more.

I think personally they need to get rid of Night of Champions after this purely for the fact that they wanna merge the midcard titles that'll leave like 4 titles, you can't base a whole ppv about champions on 4 titles. My card for this would be:

1) Nxt Battle Royal
Nxt World Title Battle Royal Match. Put this on the card as a way to showcase the lower talents, have Adrian Neville retain the title.

2) Paige (C) Vs Aj Lee
Diva's Title Hardcore Match. This could be a great match they need to turn it up a notch now and have Paige retain to billed her up as a decent champion.

3) Sheamus (C) Vs Rusev Vs Swagger Vs Cesaro
Fatal 4 Way United States Title Match. Another great addition to the card, four different countries all fighting to be the us champ. Have Rusev go over to win the belt and this match could be hard hitting.

4) Chris Jericho Vs Bray Wyatt
Strap Match. Could be very brutal where Bray wins and sends Jericho packing.

5) Dolph Ziggler (C) Vs The Miz Vs Bo Dallas
Triple Threat Intercontinetal Title Match. I heard they were supposed to have this match at summerslam but instead let to take place here and have Dallas gloat to both ziggler and miz about not boleaviing, Ziggler retains to help build him up.

6) Roman Reigns Vs Randy Ortan
Triple HHH Special Guest Referee. Let them have one more match where they are tied at one a piece and Reigns goes for the victory but hhh takes him out setting up a hell in a cell match.

7) The USO (C) Vs Rybaxle Vs The Wyatt Family Vs Dust Brothers Vs Big Show & Henry Vs Big. E & Kingston.
Tag Team Title Turmoi Match. Have six teams in there & when the USO are standing tall the Asencions come out and attack them taking out the tag champs.

8) Brock Leaner (C) Vs John Cena
Wwe World Heavyweight Title Last Man Standing Match. Could be extremely brutal but would be a decent blow off for their feud all together. Have Lesner retain to build him further.

That's my card and that's all I could think off.

My best very early guess at the card:

WWE Title Match:
Brock Lesnar (c) v John Cena
Already announced so this one is obvious

WWE IC Title Match:
Dolph Ziggler (c) v The Miz
With Miz winning on Raw it looks like this one will continue into NOCs

WWE US Title Match:
Sheamus (c) v Rusev
This one is tough. Sheamus and the US title in general really have no direction. This would be the easiest match to schedule as the story is so simple. Rusev's current involvment with Henry does make making this match a little tricky. Could get around the Henry issue by adding him in the match and maybe another heel like Bo.

WWE Tag Title Match:
The Usos (c) vs Stardust and Goldust
With the amount of promo time Star and Goldust have been getting plus them no winning all there matches this is inevitable.

WWE Divas Title Match:
Paige (c) v AJ
With the title switch at SummerSlam, as well as the events of Raw this too seems like a lock. Could possibly include Nattie

As for non title matches I think were looking at a Brie v Nikki match, as well as a rematch of Orton and Reigns.

Based merely on how things are looking right now, the title matches at Night of Champions will probably look like this:

WWE World Heavyweight Championship - Brock Lesnar (c) vs. John Cena

WWE Intercontinental Championship - Dolph Ziggler (c) vs. The Miz

WWE United States Championship - Sheamus (c) vs. Cesaro

WWE Divas Championship - Paige (c) vs. AJ Lee

WWE Tag Team Championship - Jimmy & Jey Uso (c) vs. Stardust & Goldust

On the surface, they all seem like pretty solid matches but none of them feel like a "must see" match other than the main event.

That's the initial impression I get, so it could be very well possible that most of those matches well exceed most expectations.

Sheamus & Cesaro had a couple of fantastic, physical matches over the US title earlier this year so I think this could be a really good match. It's just unfortunate that neither guy has any real momentum at the moment.

Ziggler & Miz have had a couple of strong matches, so this one should also be pretty entertaining. Miz has pretty much no momentum right now, so that's also gonna drag the match down a bit.

The strange, quasi-lesbian angle with Paige & AJ is kinda sorta interesting, to me at least, and I know these two could tear it up if they're given enough time.

The Usos have been great babyface tag champs in my opinion and all four guys can really go in the ring. This could also be a strong match.

NXT Takeover II airs next Thursday and there should be some very strong bouts considering the first two live specials have generated strong cards. As a result, if Takeover II delivers, WWE may well make certain that NOC is a strong show so as not to be shown up by wrestlers on the developmental roster.

We are going tomorrow night and live in Nashville, anyone know where the best place to catch any of the stars around town? I haven't seen any appearances announced before the show tomorrow.

Goldust and Stardust VS The Usos
This was a good opener and the right team won. I am excited to see how Goldust and Stardust's reign will go from here. Great effort by all four competitors and it set the pace nicely for the rest of the show.

Cesaro VS Sheamus
Very enjoyable match. Sheamus needed the retention but Cesaro put up a good fight even though I never thought he was going to win.

Dolph Ziggler VS The Miz
Nothing to write home about.... At least it wasn't the worst match of the night. I strongly disagreed with Miz winning, and Dolph winning the belt back on Raw made this a useless title change.... That's for a whole other topic though.

Seth Rollins promo
This was well done and a good way to get Seth some heel heat over the fans not getting to see Roman defeat him. Dean Ambrose showing up was awesome.

Mark Henry VS Rusev
Ugh.... I hated this. It was awful. This was the worst match of the night and it ended up being just as bad as I thought it would be.

Chris Jericho VS Randy Orton
One of the better matches of the night, despite being a non-title match on a show intended to be about the titles. Nothing groundbreaking, still a cool match and probably the 2nd best of the night.

AJ Lee VS Nikki Bella VS Paige
This was better than I thought it would be. I would have been happy with either AJ winning or Paige retaining. The important thing is that Nikki did not take the belt. The division needs a champion who is able to wrestle, so AJ winning is a result I have no issue with. One more and she sets a new Divas Championship record! Much better than it could have been considering Nikki Bella was in it.

Brock Lesnar VS John Cena
MUCH better than their Summerslam "match". Why couldn't we have gotten THIS last month? I was not expecting the result that we got.... I really am surprised that Seth did not close the show as World Heavyweight Champion. I was worried we would see a repeat of the horrible "match" we saw last time; that didn't happen and this was better than I expected. It is worth checking out if you missed it.

Overall thoughts
While nothing amazing or groundbreaking happened, Night Of Champions was still a fun way to spend a sunday. If you're bored and missed it, go check it out. If you missed it, you didn't miss much. So.... I am left with neutral leaning toward good as far as my thoughts on the show. Much better than Battleground, but still a bit below my current top 4 for the year. Out of 9 shows so far this year Night Of Champions falls right in the middle at 5th of 9.

1. Wrestlemania 30
2. Money In the Bank 2014
3. Extreme Rules 2014
4. Payback 2014
5. Night Of Champions 2014
6. Elimination Chamber 2014
7. Summerslam 2014
8. Battleground 2014
9. Royal Rumble 2014
