WWE 2K16 Thread

Tears of unbridled joy

We’ve had a lot of fun making WWE 2K16 and calling out all of the great new features in posts and videos. The time has finally come to talk about the updates to Universe Mode – where fans get to craft and play out their own version of WWE. For the uninitiated, it’s like taking the role of Corporate Kane, Director of Operations. We know many of you are excited to hear all about it so let’s not delay any further!

Right out of the gate, keen players will notice that the match generation system has been overhauled. In the past, starting match cards were similar across all game copies. Now players shouldn’t see the same card when comparing Universes with their friends. From there, players can now assign Superstars to appear on multiple shows, creating more flexibility and customization.

We’ve added more Universe cutscenes and revamped a large portion of the storylines to focus more on quality over quantity. Between pay-per-views one would traditionally see around two possible story instances for a character’s path. Now those branching-instance possibilities jump up to ten, creating far more variety in storylines. Everything will make more sense logically with the Superstars involved based on their personality traits.

This new personality system gauges a variety of stats to influence Superstar traits and actions in Universe mode. Meters display opposing traits like loyal vs. treacherous, respectful vs. disrespectful, and discipline vs. aggression. By default, these sliders are tuned to align with Superstars’ traits shown on WWE programming. Brock Lesnar, for example, will be highly aggressive while The Miz will be cowardly and egotistical. By playing these characters against their base traits, one can gradually steer them to behave differently, but there’s also the option to go into the menus and adjust their traits manually.

Status effects are another new element shaking up the flow of Universe Mode. Status effects are temporary bonuses and penalties that are triggered through gameplay or storylines. The most common effects temporarily boost a Superstar’s attributes, which are triggered by winning streaks and winning big pay-per-view matches in rivalries. Some others affect how much a personality trait can be changed through gameplay, giving you the chance to solidify a trait or push it towards the opposite end. We’ve also brought back injuries as status effects with big changes. Injuries are inflicted when you deal a huge amount of damage to a specific part of the body, and the level of the injury climbs from minor to major to critical. Superstars can continue to compete with minor and major injuries with penalties to limb health and attributes related to that limb. Once an injury reaches a critical level, the Superstar will be knocked out of commission until their injury heals up.

Finally, it is now much easier to track changes in rivalries. Whenever a rivalry match finishes, a new results screen offers immediate feedback on how it affects everything. Previously, players would have to dig through menus to gather this information and this cuts that down significantly. Keeping tabs on developments and progression has never been easier.

We hope you enjoyed this rundown of new features in Universe Mode in WWE 2K16. We can’t wait for players to get their hands on it and the rest of the game on October 27th in North America, the 29th in Australia, and the 30th in Europe!

All the guys from last years DLC's are in this year, basically. Ill wait to see how the theme music situation shakes out to decide who to get

The only CAWS outside of my original one I know I'll download is the horsewomen and Alexa Bliss. Other than that I've yet to decide.

The majority of the ones I want are pretty much the same every year. I always get the likes of Angle, Goldberg, a lot of the original ECW guys, The Hardys and some of the Cruiserweights like Juventud, Pcicosis etc as I always have a big Cruiserweight division in my Universe mode.

It speaks to the special fickleness of wrestling videogame fans when people like me get won over to shit games like this after realising you can can play as DDP in it.

Saw a video that intimated Biker Taker has the limp bizkit theme. I'd have been happier for the kid rock theme but this is still badass

Fair enough.

I tend to get sick of the same CAWS after awhile so I'll delete ones not being used much and download some new ones to keep my universe fresh.

Oh and I'm also gonna have to get a Braun Strowman CAW, gotta have The Wyatt Family at full strength.

Looks the goods, but after last year (where the game looked the goods) I'm now hesitant. However at least this year we are seeing it and not being told

Creation mode better have massively upgraded. My first attempt at doing this right will be creating ALL the Horse-Women. (Bayley, Charlotte, Sasha Banks, and Becky Lynch) Still pissed they couldn't get put in due to licensing issues.

I imagine I'll wait for others to create better versions of the likes of; Jeff Hardy, Matt Hardy, AJ Styles, Christopher Daniels, Kaz, etc. Then I'll likely create some side-show TNA event with the following....

Uhhhh....fuckin WHOA

I am excited for the fact that it looks fully stacked in everything you can create, and where you place everything. Like CAW mode - I'll wait for people to create fully authentic versions of alternative arenas. While maybe creating futuristic versions of arena's for Rumble, SummerSlam, Survivor Series, Mania 32, 33, etc.....

Mike Tyson is white in WWE 2K16, and is only referred to as "The Enforcer" or "Our Special Guest" during the Austin showcase apparently.

I've watched a clip of the end of the Austin v HBK WM match and JR/King only say "The Enforcer", no mention of the name Mike Tyson....

And there's the video! "Tyson" looks bizarre, they must have had licensing issues and had to create a generic "Enforcer" character to take his place in the storyline.

So it's possible you can't set title matches in Universe mode when you want. Seems that it is up to the mode itself and is probably restricted to PPV.

That better not be true. So you can create a roster, a show, a feud, an arena, a belt itself and then can't even fucking set s match for the belt you've just made?

Seriously? What the hell are they thinking if that's the case.

It would also appear that you can't edit the title matches on PPV to include superstars that you want. They have to be in a rivalry and that means title matches are restricted to 1 vs. 1.

All you have to do is edit the rankings and make whoever you want to be in the title match the number one contender.

That's how it's been since at least WWE '13 anyway.

Well I don't know how it has been on next-gen systems.

It's something I wish they would change.

And I know it's not the same but if you want a different champ in your Universe mode all you have to do is go edit the titles.

If it's the same as '13, '14 and '15 then that's what you're looking at.

The way those played out was there was usually a number one contender match or two during the month and that set up who was going to challenge at the ppv.

You can't alter the match type or anything at all. It will make it a non-title match if you do.

So say you want it to be a ladder match for the IC title you can't do that unless that's what the computer has picked for you.
