Wrestlezone Tournament Discussion

I just realized what a terrible draw Ric Flair has gotten. He's as old school as they come - a warrior of the classic "squared circle," and he'll be going against some of the more adaptable legends in the TNA Region. Nobody can tell me that a match in a six-sided ring wouldn't favor Kurt Angle over Ric Flair, and that a Monster's Ball isn't more up Steve Austin's alley than The Nature Boy's!

If Flair was traded to the WWE or WCW region I'd have him as an elite eight pick, maybe even final four. In the TNA region, I question if he'll make it to the sweet sixteen.

Here comes the list. Argue about this, random noobs:

Oh my God. That's all I can say. I can't believe I'm actually telling you this, but I have feelings of anger over the number five seedings. Well, it wasn't meant to be objective, so I'll calm myself down.

I do have a bit of a personal vendetta against Rey Mysterio, as I never saw the point of a champion that got beaten near death every week. Sure, he's done other stuff, but it's rarely been high profile and many people will be unaware of it. I think he's undeserving of his spot to be totally honest. The same goes for Owen Hart, who I feel had potential but can still be overrated simply because he's dead. Christian was big shock, but luckily I like him so I've adjusted to it.

One last note. Finally... The Rock has come back to the WrestleZone Tournament! You have no idea how pleased I am. About that.

And continuing right along. I give to you, the number six seeds. I will post my top 100 for everyone as well, and discuss those picks if anyone feels like it. I think I can justify putting everyone where I did on my list.

I left Samoa Joe off Interesting. And yet still No Japanese Wrestlers. But So Far so good in terms of Rankings. Im also not seeing some of the big names of Yesteryear ever getting into this like Lou Thesz, Bruno Sammartino or Harley Race.

I have to agree with Shadowmancer. We have seen the top 20 and no Harley Race. Seven time champion in an era where belts didn't change as freely as they do now. Also an opinion I left out earlier. I loved the last touranment except round 3. The higher seed getting the choice match. I would dump that. Alot of great things happen last touranment but the biggest misjuctice was Big Show over Steamboat. Take care all.

Shadowmancer brought up a good point. There are so many people on the list that aren't as deserving as other superstars from the past are. Harley Race should definetly be on here. But anyways there is immense talent on the top 24. A lot of TNA fans have showed up because there is a lot of superstars on there. Overall it has been really good so far and I can't wait till the voting begins.

One thing I am surprised about is how high Samoa Joe and Randy Orton managed to be. In my opinion Joe isn't that great but there is no arguing that he has talent.

This just gets more a more surprising, the further it goes on. Never in a million years did I expect Lance Storm to be ranked over the likes of Hulk Hogan, Harley Race etc. etc. He's definitely the most surprising entry so far. The second is Samoa Joe, obviously. I thought his popularity had been waning but I guess not. Orton's also a surprise, but he was bound to have a fairly high spot, the same goes with Booker.

Like I've said time and time again, this is fantastic, and I can't wait for Lance Storm to get his ankle snapped. If he gets that far.

Seeding only means so much. Think about it - A few people regard the likes of Hogan and Race as picks in their top 12 - maybe 8-ish. On the other hand, newbie fans and fans of smaller promotions regard the Samoa Joes and AJ Styles of the world as #1's. Exposure plays a big part. Hogan will make the tournament, of course.

Also, I wouldn't get too wrapped up in the seeding- how many #12 seeds upset #5 seeds in March Madness each year? I'm counting on a few MAJOR upsets from Scott "Flash" Norton.

Also people need to take into account the limited ability of some of us and watching wrestling. Most of the guys in my top 100 are all from 1984 onward. This is twofold. A, I started watching wrestling around this era, so these are the people I have grown up with and continue to watch to this day. B. Exposure. Growing up in the midwest United States, we didn't have access to AAA, Japanese Wrestling, European Wrestling, or any of that.

The top 100 list were comprised of everyone's personal 100, those 100 were chosen based on who you thought were the greatest, your personal best. However, If we did it based on the actual top 100 of all time, my list would look completely different. The lack of Japanese or older wrestlers is due to the lack of exposure for me growing up seeing them, that's why I had a ton of people help out with this process this year to get these guys into the tournament.

Hell, I had Hulk Hogan as my overall #1, and he isn't on here yet at all. It's why I liked having multiple people turn top 100's in, so we can get a variety of wrestlers. They might not be as high as you expect, but most will be in this tournament.

Now onto the number seven seeds for this years tournament.

Hulk made WCW. Lucky bastard. And the thing is, if i'd given in and put him on my list, he may have ended up in TNA or ECW. Arse. Still, the tournament looks amazing so far, some hugely interesting matches looking to happen already.

Oh, by the way, I'm in agreement with the idea of dropping the "Higher seed picks the stip" idea. I liked the Spin The Wheel round, but higher seed picks sucked, to tell you the truth. Hell, most people didn't take notice of it. Kane defeating... don't remember who, might have been Dustin Rhodes, despite having his hands cuffed behind his back?

I'm considering greatly not including the pick your own stipulation round. I think it didn't get notice like you said PooMonster, so that round seemed like a waste of time.

Anyone, moving right along with the 8 seeds

2. Chris Benoit
3. Sting
4. AJ Styles
5. Christian Cage
6. Samoa Joe
7. Christopher Daniels
8. Raven

WCW Region

TNA Region

7. Roddy Piper
8. C.M. Punk

ECW Region
1. Chris Jericho
2. The Undertaker
3. Mick Foley
4. Edge
5. Rey Mysterio
6. Booker T
7. Ricky Steamboat
8. Tom Billington

The WCW region looks great. My early picks per region so far would be.
WWE region Shawn Michaels over Sting. I hope we get to see the HBk vs AJ. Would have to get to final four of that bracket.
WCW Bret Hart over HHH.
TNA Region Flair over Angle. Hate it can't be Austin in there but Flair will take him on in final four of this bracket.
ECW Region These two men will face each other in the quarterfinals of this bracket but Undertaker over Steamboat. A great match indeed. I hope the fans study and I hate to know that Steamboat and/or Flair may not make it to final 16. I think Austin will get the notch over Flair but I hope not. Take care all!

The number seven seeds seemed pretty sensible - Sly can finally rest easily now that Hulk Hogan is present - except Christopher Daniels is on top of it. Daniels is the most surprising entry so far, without a doubt really. I think that unless the TNA winds are blowing strong, he'll be cut out fairly easily. Oddly enough, the WWE region seems to be filling up with current TNA wrestlers. Hopefully they don't all get eaten alive.

It's nice to see Tom Billington in it so early, but I question how well he'll survive against Foley and, er, I guess that's it in ECW. I think it's only a matter of time before he gets eliminated by someone like Edge or Undertaker though, so I won't get my hopes... less down.

Along came the #9 Seeds.

I'm surprised to see Somoa Joe up so high in the rankings, and same with Chris Daniels, but i'm glad to see Steamboat and Billington made it pretty early. I was also wondering how you did the point system and what it means to be unanimous?

Well the point system is kinda simple to explain. Not getting too detailed, I sent out messages to a good group of posters. From the ones that replied, I just put their list down into a spreadsheet and went from there. So if someone were to vote Hulk Hogan number one, Hogan would receive 100 points. Bret Hart #2, he gets 99 points, and down from there. So Hornswoggle at 100 would only receive one point.

Since only 12 people turned top 100's in, the maximum amount of points allowed is 1200. A Unanimous decision is someone that appeared on everyone's ballots. Most of the guys so far that have been surprising people didn't get a high individual ballot, but it's strength in numbers. If you show up on 10 ballots, chances are, you're getting ranked highly. I voted for Andre the Giant particularly high, but with 12 rankings, my Andre vote will get weighed out if their isn't any additional support.

Well you can see how High I put Andre. But being a fairly recent fan of wrestling it doesn't mean that my list is my favourites it is a combination of three things. Ring Skills, Success in the Ring, And how much I like them. Some actually buffed others up so it evens out for the ranking in terms of why they were put where they were.

Alright, now time to introduce the #10 seeds. This is where the numbers game plays a big advantage. The people from this point to around the 64th overall seed didn't score particularly high, but they made it on most peoples ballots.

Plus, we are now getting into the area where we have ties in the points, so I will break them up with my own tie breaker system.

More and more great talent seem to be appearing on the list and I am happy to see a lot of the wrestlers on here. MVP and Shelton are nice surprises to be on the list. Brian Pillman as well. Bam Bam and DiBiase are definitely deserving of being on there. Surprised to see Kane so far on the list considering what he has been doing for the past two years. I am definitely really happy to see Malenko and Hennig so far up. Well, overall they have been great. Although, Raven making it above Hennig, DiBiase, or Malenko is pretty surprising. Even though he is one of the best at in ring psychology they should be higher.

I'll continue right along with the #11 seeds.

Wow, more great picks. A lot of TNA wrestlers have made it pretty highyup this year. Jake the Snake and Vader are definitely ver good. Scott Steiner I have a hard time understanding because I don't think he has been good since the Steiner Brother days but thats fine considering he was great. It is definitely a surprise to not see John Cena or Batista on there but this forum is kind of against them. Weird to see Abyss so high as well. Overall, just more great choices.

The regions look great and I see many potential match up that I would love to see. A lot of the TNA wrestler are ending up in the WWE region. Thats interesting. But Shawn/Sting or Shawn/Samoa Joe would be awesome to see.

Onto the Number 12 seeds. I've been slow on the updates, but typically thist ime of year it gets pretty busy .Hopefully after the holidays I'll be able to crank these things out with more quickness.
