After winning the biggest Royal Rumble Match in history, Alberto Del Rio has proclaimed that he will challenge World Heavyweight Champion Edge for his coveted title at WrestleMania XXVII. (WATCH)

Edge is a 10-time World Champion at the top of his game and a Master Manipulator known for attacking both the mind and body of any impending adversary. In the squared circle, he is extremely dangerous, wielding an incredible array of maneuvers – most prominent of which is the bone-shattering Spear. He has headlined the past three WrestleManias, standing toe-to-toe with the likes of The Undertaker, John Cena, Big Show and Chris Jericho. The future WWE Hall of Famer undeniably knows what it takes to shine in The Showcase of the Immortals.

Alberto Del Rio is making his first appearance on The Grandest Stage of Them All. But, in the short time he has been in WWE, he has stepped head-and-shoulders above the rest. His infamous list of accomplishments includes a conquest over two-time World Champion Rey Mysterio on his first night as a SmackDown Superstar and ruthlessly putting both The Master of the 619 and Christian out of commission. That all paled in comparison, however, to the moment he overcame 39 other combatants to triumph in the 2011 Royal Rumble Match, catapulting himself into the main event at WrestleMania.

One day later, after choosing to make himself the No. 1 contender to the World Heavyweight Title, the aristocratic Superstar put the exclamation point on his declaration by smashing The Rated-R Superstar with a guitar and locking him in his excruciating cross armbreaker.

Can Del Rio use his incredible momentum to outclass The Ultimate Opportunist on The Grandest Stage of Them All? Find out, Sunday Apr. 3 at 7/4 PT, only on pay-per-view.

Naturally, since anything could happen at the Elimination Chamber PPV, this match can be subject to change. However, it's been officially announced on WWE.com in their Wrestlemania section so it appears to be set in stone for now.

So, the 2011 Royal Rumble winner and rookie, Alberto Del Rio, faces the veteran and former Royal Rumble winner, Edge, for the World Heavyweight championship if Edge keeps the title until then.

Let's discuss it here.

Well, Edge is, you know, Edge. Yes, by that I mean he's just a bit shit. He has less chemistry with anyone on the roster than I do with women. That's less than zero. He's into negative chemistry. Del Rio, I've just about made my peace with him. I think he's alright. The crowd obviously doesn't. I mean, I'm not about to tell you he's good. That'd be a bit mental. Them facing each other? It's hardly going to be the main event, is it? And it just might be enough to create a literal blackhole of crowd interest and destroy our solar system.

That's algebra, folks.

I cannot see this match being a showstealer, but I think it could be a pretty good contest.

I dont agree with Edge having no chemistry with the rest of the roster. While his title match with Kane was poor, he has always been pretty consistent over the years, and is deserving of carrying the title into WM.

As for Del Rio, he doesnt blow my mind. I was quite surprised to see him win the RR, and I will wait until WM to make my judgement of him. He has never struck me as championship material, but I think he has potential. He has obviously connected with the fans since his debut, and Vince must see bright things in his future if he is trusting Del Rio with a title match at his very first WM.

Personally I see CM Punk v Randy Orton as the show stealing match, if that takes place, but I think Del Rio v Edge will be just fine. I would be shocked to see this match as THE main event, I would expect it to be lower down the card, with the WWE title taking priority.

This should be solid. While I don't think/expect it to be as good as Edge's match last year with Jericho (which was good), I do think that he and Del Rio will piece together an entertaining contest. Del Rio has a good couple of months to build up more heat heading into this and the fans are very into Edge. I think they'll more than likely play up the destiny angle once again with Del Rio. The theme of the show appears to be 'Written in the Stars' going off of the song they used for the promo and that fits in with Del Rio and destiny very well. I'd also expect Christian to be dragged into this seeing as he's Edge's brother/best friend and was injured by Del Rio. Don't expect it to be a 'show stealer' or to close the show but I do expect a solid outing late on in the show.

I just hope this match takes place. Two months is a long time in advance to announce a ppv match in today’s WWE. This was fine for WM7, but not WM27. There is so much that can happen; especially with a ppv still to come before mania. I hope to see a nice long build here without any matches between these two until mania.

I like this match for mania because I feel these two match up pretty well and it would be a fresh match. I know some people are down on Del Rio but I don’t know why. He is good in the ring and oozes charisma. Some say it’s too soon, but why hold good talent back. I think he’s ready for this spot and will shine in WWE for the next several years. As far as an instant success I think Alberto Del Rio is the best new WWE star since Kurt Angle.

I agree with the Brain here. No matches between these two until Mania. I'm looking forward to this match and happy as hell ADR won the Rumble. I'm usually very critical of younger guys getting the strap before they should, but in this case I would love to see ADR walk out of Mania as world heavyweight champ. He has it all. Look at Raw this past Monday...you can't tell me this guy isn't the future.

By the way, FunKay D....awesome pic in your sig. lol

I am really glad that they announced this two months ahead of time because WWE hasn't done this since 07 when Taker won the Royal Rumble. The night after the Royal Rumble we knew the two Championship matches at Mania and I like that. I like knowing two months ahead of time instead of only a month of feuding. That way the anticipation for the match is so much greater and it gives you the Wrestlemania atmosphere. It makes it feel that much bigger. I think this match will more than likely take place. I think Edge should and probably will defend in an Elimination Chamber match and have Del Rio put up his number one contendership up at the Elimination Chamber too in a single's match against someone. That way he could have a big match and a big win at the Elimination Chamber before his match against Edge at Mania and he would look like a bigger threat.

If this match does take place, then I think it will be a decent overall match. I think with some good hyping that it can feel like a real Wrestlemania main event even though I doubt it will close the show. I see Del Rio coming out on top since the past two years the Rumble winners lost at Wrestlemania. I just hope it doesn't turn into a thriple threat match and they keep it Alberto Del Rio vs Edge.

Like I said in the Alberto Del Rio Royal Rumble winner thread, I'm pretty confident that Alberto Del Rio might be able to pull off the first heel to win their first world title at Wrestlemania.

Alberto Del Rio has been great ever since his debut, and has proved his worth in the main event scene / upper mid-card scene for the majority of the time. And I actually think that due to that, this match is gonna be the final push for him to become world champion. He's got the charisma, the looks and everything about him that just screams for him to become a world champion. And I don't see why he shouldn't? Edge is most likely not gonna hold onto the belt forever, and letting Alberto loose at Wrestlemania right now would most likely do pretty badly for his push.

This match will be pretty good, I can feel it. And I'm sure that it will have us seeing a new world champion at the event.

For now I can't help but admit though that I find it odd how early they announced it. I mean, after all Edge still has to defend his championship at Elimination Chamber, for all I know he could loose the belt at Elimination Chamber to a heel, which would fuck up the whole whole match with pitting heel vs heel (Even though I think it would be pretty cool to have Dolph Ziggler vs Alberto Del Rio for example). But for now, I'll leave myself a little bit skeptical as to how Elimination Chamber turns out, but I just hope this isn't WWE selling the predictions of the event short.

Two months is a long time from now and I would hope that this match will be very well hyped by the time Wrestlemania rolls around. I just wonder what Edge will have planned for Elimination Chamber. Will he defend his title in the Chamber? It's being announced as if Edge vs Del Rio is a definite lock for the big PPV.

Del Rio has been great and on a roll no doubt but he's been in the WWE for such a short time that this match doesn't have that phenomenal, mind blowing Wrestlemania feel to it. But two months is a long time to further build Del Rio so I have no doubts that my perception of that will change at some point in the near future. As for the match itself, assuming it for sure does happen at the big PPV, I expect it to be solid. Maybe not the show stealer of the night but a good technical match. And after the surprises from the Rumble, I won't be surprised to see Del Rio win the world title at Wrestlemania. I think this will mark Edge passing the torch to Del Rio. Maybe. If not, then he's a shoe-in for MITB.

My official prediction: Alberto Del Rio wins and becomes the new World Heavyweight Champion

Edge (c) vs. Alberto Del Rio vs. Christian,
Triple Threat Match-World Heavyweight Championship
would be 5x better

Edge can retain the WHC at EC and Del Rio runs in with the post-match asault. Then Christian could return to make the save and get his revenge on Del Rio. Christian and Edge could taunt for the crowd then Christian turn heel and hit a Killswitch on Edge with a cold, emotionless stare (like HBK and Hogan in 05).

This match would be a far bigger draw, Del Rio and Christian could renew their feud, and we can get some form of Edge/Christian.

I'm very excited about this match, actually. While I will admit that Edge does tend to bore me every now and then, I cannot help but look forward to this match seeing as how Alberto Del Rio is the challenger.

It amazes me how the IWC complains that Del Rio didn't deserve to win the Rumble - that it's too early for the guy to be winning such a prestegious event, let alone headline Wrestlemaina. I sit there and think: Really? So...what? You'd prefer Orton to have won the Rumble? A guy that is bland as fuck - who've we seen millions of times already at Mania win the Royal Rumble? Yea, no thanks.

Del Rio is a fine choice to be in the main event at Wrestlemaina against Edge. The guy has great mic skills; great in-ring ability; great look; and best of all, draws heat like crazy. And considering all the hype the WWE has put on this man, it's only natural to think that the WWE feels he is ready to be a world champion.

With that said, the only concern that I have for this match is that I hope they keep the prestige in it and not have any pre-Wrestlemania exhibition matches between the two. In that way, the match keeps its grandeur and makes it all that more worth while to wait to see it happen for the first time at Wrestlemania 27.

They have approximately 2 months to build this feud. Here's to hoping WWE delivers.

Everyone's now aware that it's looking like Del Rio is walking out of his match with Edge as the champion... But what if someone else ultimately walked out of the event as the champion?

Most people seem to think that it's way too soon for Del Rio to be the champ (I agree on that) so what if he does win, but the winner of the MITB match comes along, cashes in, Del Rio recieves the shortest reign of a world title in the history of the organisation and someone who actually deserves to be champ, i.e. John Morrison (who I honestly think will win the MITB match at WM), gets what they deserve.

This idea could work wonders because:
1) Del Rio would work harder to win back the championship and prove he deserves it.
2) JoMo gets the title he deserves and could ultimatly make SmackDown! a better show.
3) Edge, who is reportedly looking to retire soon, can slip out of the company unnoticed.

Thoughts/opions appriciated.

I don't think that a WrestleMania main event should be ruined by a Money in the Bank cash in against someone who won their title after winning the Royal Rumble.

I'm definately looking forward to this match and I do believe that ADR is going to walk out champion since from 2008, the RR winner hasn't won the title. Cena lost, Orton lost, Edge lost, I don't see another winner losing his match at WrestleMania and it's a shame for Edge since assuming Edge is champ at Mania, this will be his 4th time losing a WM Main Event for a World Championship in a row.

Del Rio is a great talker, he has that cunning nature about him and I always seem to think of Eddie Guerrero when watching him. I think it's his smile that he flashes, that sparks the memories. I think it will be a great match and we shouldn't shit on it at the moment until it's over and done with.

I think this match is going to be awesome. Anybody who says Edge is a bore is completely wrong. His match last year with Jericho was very good and that wasn't just because of Y2J.

I'm really looking forward to this match and I think it will be leaps and bounds ahead of the bore of Miz/Cena. Del Rio will add to this fued with his awesome promos and weekly attacks that I foresee happening. Anybody who says he isn't deserving is dead wrong and I think there opinions will change come Mania time.

I am a little concerned with them announcing it so quickly, I have a funny feeling something will change by then and I certainly don't want it to. Christian marks are calling for a Triple Threat which I hope doesn't happen. Del Rio won the Rumble for a reason, let's give him his moment.

Plus, the Rumbe winner hasn't won the title at Mania since Taker did it at WM 23, that's 4 years! It's bound to happen this year.

Here's to Del Rio's star shining for years to come.

IF:

ADR puts on a GREAT performance AND they book him to win the title...a NEW star will be born at Wrestlemania.

Edge is a huge draw and a great wrestler. I've Been a fan for a bit and I couldn't be happier for him to main event Mania. HOWEVER,I don't like the idea of Del Rio main eventing the biggest PPV of the Year. I love the new youth movement but why put Del Rio in the driver seat of the whole thing? I see his talent in the ring. I also see his mic skills but i just cant find that "it" factor others see in him. Miz, Sheamus, and Jack Swagger all got title run and that was stretching it for some of them. Now, they give a world title match at wrestlemania to a man who's been in the wwe 6 months? The Miz,Del Rio,& Wade barret in the 3 biggest matches at wrestlemania. Dose this really sound like a good idea to you? Is it a good idea to have three unproven draws main event mania? Don't get me wrong cause I do like Del Rio(Miz too) but 6 months feuding with Rey just doesn't scream world title to me. Maybe Del Rio will impress me more down the road but right now,i'm not looking forward to this match.

I honestly see Ziggler getting into this match, making it a triple threat, and being tapped out by ADR - thus preventing the face (Edge) from submitting, but putting the belt on ADR...

Failing this, have they time to develope ADR a new, non-submission finisher?

this will be a good match to watch and im very much looking forward to it. Both edge and del rio have the potential to put on a brilliant match. Edge is close to retirement and im sure wants to put on a great wrestlemania performance to go out on if indeed he is planning on retiring soon. The same goes for del rio but in reverse, this is his 1st wrestlemania and for the world championship no less!!! putting on the best match of his life will be gnawing on his mind right up until the bell rings.

now i dont know where all this stuff about edge being boring!!! the man is a very entertaining wrestler and has the 10 titles to prove it! i just watched the tlc match between edge and cena and edge did not bore me in anyway. i think people are being to critical

Hmm.. I think Edge will retain at EC so this match will definately happen... Now we all know its not the best match and won't close the show, but IMO it could be something decent... Del Rio to go over in this match against a veteran like Edge would be good for Del Rio.. I think he will win, and obviously become the new world heavyweight champion and also I would like to see his reign last for several months, at least past SummerSlam!

I really can't get a good feel for what I think WWE is going to do with this match.

I love Alberto Del Rio and I do think he will be a main eventer and probably a multi-time champion but I think this is a little too soon. I don't think Edge has any problem whatsoever putting over a new, young guy. I could see Del Rio winning but if he does it won't be clean. Either Ziggler, Vickie Guerrero, and or Christian will interfere.

If Edge wins, I do agree with some people in here, I think we could see a MITB cash in. This allows Edge and Del Rio to feud with the person that cashes in MITB and wins the belt.

I could also see a situation where the person cashing it in loses.

So many scenarios with that: Christian makes his triumphant return and wins MITB, then after Del Rio wins, Christian runs down and cashes in MITB but Edge costs him the title setting up a Del Rio, Edge, Christian feud.

Or I could see Christian winning MITB and helping Edge retain over Del Rio then trying to cash in MITB on Edge only to have Del Rio cost him the belt. Then Christian and Del Rio could resume their feud and it could be for the #1 contendership, with Del Rio eventually winning the belt.

No matter what, I see Christian coming into play with this Edge-Del Rio feud.

The X factor is that we don't know how soon Edge is planning on retiring. If shortly after WM, then Del Rio wins the belt. If it's later in the year, then Edge probably retains and resumes the feud through the summer.

Also, if 'Taker comes back, you know they will want to give him the belt soon after he comes back.

Stop bitching that it's too soon. I think he's ready and I think he has the it factor.

Anyway, Del Rio HAS to win here. Would it make so much sense to build him up, give him mic time, match time EVERY SINGLE WEEK on EVERY SINGLE SHOW, only for him to lose his match? What that make any sense? No it would not and if Del Rio lost to Edge at Mania, of course I'm gonna be pissed. They hyped his Rumble win to death. They are hyping this to death. Vince can't pull out. Del Rio is World Title material and he has that look, charisma and ring skills to be huge.

I'm actually very excited for this match. I'm an Edge fan and Big ADR fan.
This might not be the show stealing match by any means. How ever I do see it as the birth of a future major star in ADR.
Considering Edge has been teasing of retirement I see this as a great way of passing the torch and creating the new Top Smackdown star considering ADR isn't moved to Raw.
Its obvious that WWE has a lot of faith in ADR and rightfully so, he has the look, a gimmick that goes with him, draws eat. Going against a fan favorite like Edge this match will be one many people including myself can't wait to see.
The portability of Christan some how getting involved seemed to increase after tonights EC so i'l be tuning in this week to see how this goes.

This should be a fun match and I'm interested to see how it all plays out. I don't think it'll be the best match on the card but I do think that it'll be better than we're expecting it to be.

Given the return of Christian last night and Del Rio's feud with Kofi over the past few weeks, I'm wondering if one or both of them might be included in this match. After all, there's still well over a month before the event takes place and a lot of tweaks and changes can be made between now and then. People have been bitching and griping for months about wanting to see Christian placed in this match, which would make some sense when you consider him being taken out and put on the shelf by Del Rio. Christian being added to the match would definitely add some spice to it I think.

This should good but it certainly isn't going to make me rush out and buy Mania, thankfully though the two matches that will make me do that (HHH/Taker and Orton/Punk) were set up on Raw last night so this is perfectly acceptable.

This should be a decent match without being anything earth shattering, both men have obvious ability in the ring. For those who question weather Edge can still go, watch his match with Ziggler from the Rumble and Del Rio has already had numerous good matches with Rey and Kofi. I fully expect this to end with a Del Rio victory, I see no reason why they would give him the Rumble win if they had no intention of him winning at Mania.

Some people on here make me laugh.

"Edge is shit..."
Get a grip mate. Edge is one of the best wrestlers to come through since 99/00, i think he is more than capable of carrying Del Rio to a good Mania match.

As for Del Rio he has been fantastic since his debut and thank god they have continued to make him look strong with some decent matches with Kofi (who is way overrated anyways.)

Maybe this match will become a Triple Threat after Christians appearance at the Chamber, maybe its Christians time to wear the World Tite (its about time!)
