Only explanation I have is that the timing between games correlates for the 3 group games. Otherwise, I'm stumped.

I think it's to allow the majority of Europe the opportunity to watch what most would regard as the more enticing game (the earliest anybody can start watching the last game here is 11pm here in the good old GMT).
