Who will become the next Mr. Wrestlemania?

With Shawn Michaels being retired for almost a year now and going into the Hall of Fame this year, I thought it was only fitting to make this thread. When you think of Wrestlemania, you not only think of the Undertaker's undefeated streak but you think of Shawn Michaels. It seems like Shawn Michaels has been in most of the classic Wrestlemania matches of all time. The nickname Mr. Wrestlemania has stuck with him. He hasn't always won at Wrestlemania but he has stolen the show more times than not. Shawn Michaels has stolen the show, the last four Wrestlemania's and only won one of those four matches when he beat Ric Flair at Wrestlemania 24 in Flair's last match. So my question is, Who is the next Mr. Wrestlemania?

I will answer my own question and say John Cena. It seems like every match Cena gives his all but at Wrestlemania is when he truly performs. Cena F-U'd the Big Show at Wrestlemania 20 as that is a memorable Wrestlemania moment. Then the following year he won his first ever WWE Championship when he beat JBL. At Wrestlemania 22, he made the Game Triple H tap out. Not many have accomplished that. The next year at Wrestlemania 23, he stole the show in the main event when he defeated Mr. Wrestlemania himself. I think Wrestlemania 24 was his weakest Mania. He suffered his first loss at the pay per view and didn't have the best match in my opinion, with Triple H and Randy Orton. I may be one of the few but I actually enjoyed the triple threat match at Wrestlemania 25. He beat Big Show and Edge for the World Title. I liked how there was a love triangle betwen Big Show/Edge/Vickie and Cena made it that much entertaining. I marked out when he picked Edge and Big Show up at the same time even though it was just for a split second. Last year he put on a good outing with Batista, and walked out the WWE Champion once again. It seems like Cena's best matches are at Mania. That's why I think he should be considered the next Mr. Wrestlemania.

Will there ever be another Mr. Wrestlemania?

I am going to say no one. Every single thing that happens does not need to be recreated. Every torch that is lit for a particular reason, does not need to be passed along.

There will be plenty of BIG STARS as the years roll on. Some guys should be remembered for certain things. Shawn Michaels should be remembered as "The Show Stopper" that he was.

He didn't win every match at Wrestlemania by any means. But sometimes someone being the winner isn't enough. Shawn would be used every year (except maybe his match with Vince), to make someone look awesome. No matter who Shawn wrestled, Up & Comer, Legend, Olympic Gold Medalist or World Champion, it never mattered whether he won or lost.

For me, he really only had one "must win" match at Wrestlemania, and that was against Bret Hart. HBK got his victory and his first World Championship in the Main Event of Wrestlemania in a match that went over an hour. Every year he tore the house down and his win or loss at the event was besides the point.

The question shouldn't be "Who will become the next Mr. Wrestlemania" but a more general question... Is it even possible for someone else to become Mr. Wrestlemania?

I think that will be Shawn's accolade forever and no one will take it. I mean, you have a guy that has beat Shawn twice and is 18-0 at the event and probably will go 20-0, The Undertaker. Even he can't take it away from Shawn. It is based on performances and I am not sure if anyone will or even can match Shawn in that department.

EDIT: John Cena is not, nor will he ever BE known as Mr. Wrestlemania. He does not have the physical attributes needed to perform at a level that can even get close to rivaling Shawn Michaels. It is an insult to Shawn for Cena to even be considered having that title one day.

While Cena has an impressive win streak and Championship streak I believe Mister Wrestlemania is now The Undertaker. Who has a undefeated streak and beat the former Mister Mania HBK. Until someone beats the Deadman I believe he is the rightful Mr.Wrestlemania as the victor in his two year in a row topple of the Showstopper.

For years I thought we were going to see Chris Jericho take over the mantle, but I do think that his time has passed, especially if he, as rumored is going on Dancing With The Stars.

Of the current roster a LOT of guys are not at their first Mania yet, guys like Barrett, Gabriel, Del Rio... All of them could easily step up to the mantle over time.

Of the current crop, I think most likely is John Morrison, he has over recent months upped the level and I think he will do something special this Wrestlemania... starting a new trend...

In reality though, the mantle is taken by Taker... Always was... and it will be his till the day he loses.

From the perspective of a fan, I'm going to say Bryan Danielson.

Shawn Michaels was all about stealing the show, that's what made him Mr. Wrestlemania. John Cena never really has done that. I mean look at Shawn's Wrestlemania record.

Did Shawn Michaels steal the show with Razor Ramon at Wrestlemania 10?
Answer: Yes, he made the Ladder match.

Did Shawn Michaels steal the show with Bret Hart at Wrestlemania 12?
Answer: I don't even need to answer it, it's obvious that he did. This match stole the decade, and today is one of the greatest matches of all-time.

Did Shawn Michaels steal the show with Stone Cold at Wrestlemania 14? Answer: Yes. Maybe not to much for his in-ring work, but for how he put over Stone Cold and how it was so memorable. He also did awesomely for the amount of pain his back was supposed to be in at the time.

Did Shawn Michaels steal the show with Chris Jericho at Wrestlemania 19?
Answer: Yes, he re-established himself as Mr. Wrestlemania, and it made Chris Jericho look really good as well. Is one of the best matches of Jericho's career, and maybe Shawn's.

Did Shawn Michaels steal the show with Triple H and Chris Benoit at Wrestlemania 20? Answer: YES! Again known as one of the best matches of all-time. It has been spoilt due to how Benoit's life ended, but that doesn't take away from the fact that HBK, HHH and Benoit owned Wrestlemania 20.

Did Shawn Michaels steal the show with Kurt Angle at Wrestlemania 21? Answer: Yes, and again when you put two guys of so much talent together you won't expect anything less. Their match on RAW was probably better, but this was still a great match and it was the stand-out match after the inaugral MITB match at Wrestlemania 21.

Did Shawn Michaels steal the show with Ric Flair at Wrestlemania 24? Answer: Yeah, definitely. PWI Match of the Year, and with Flair in his late 50's at the time, Shawn was carrying the brunt of the match and we all remember what it was about. The, "Old Yeller", comment. Had such an amazing ending.

Did Shawn Michaels steal the show with The Undertaker at Wrestlemania 25 and 26? Answer: YES! Both matches are what Wrestlemania is all about. And at last years it all came to an end for HBK.

Now, why Danielson and not Cena? Cena hasnt got the talent to do it. He in my opinion has had one good Wrestlemania match and it was the one with Triple H at Wrestlemania 22.

The one person who could go out there and steal the show at any given Wrestlemania is Bryan Danielson. No, I'm not saying Danielson is going to replace HBK, FanBoys calm down and put your HBK gloves back in your drawers. But Danielson is the ONLY person with the in-ring capibilities and limitless potentials to steal the show at every Wrestlemania.

Just my opinion. And remember, Bryan Danielson has been trained by Shawn Michaels. He fits the mold.

Cena is probably going to win the title at WM 27 and be the first person to win 4 world titles at the event, and 3rd person to win the WWE title 3 times (hogan, austin).

Undertaker isn't Mr. Wrestlemania because all his matches didn't steal the show. HBK's did.

The next one would have to be someone who could steal the show at any given TV show or PPV.

hopefully noone.. what does that title mean? Dnt get me wrong, i luv hbk as much as any true Bret Hart fan can, but how about the Undertaker?? Seems to me that using this pre-existing criteria to graduate a 2nd 'Mr. Wrestlemania' into that title would leave very few options.. John Cena:(

Ofcourse by 'criteria,' in this case, I'm not talking talent. I'm speaking strictly in terms of how the WWe wants its 'universe' to percieve 'relative' superstars.

I think that if they keep pushing John Morrison then he can pick up that mantle, Think about he has the look the attitude the moves and is still developing more in his arsenal and his mic skills only get better so my pick is John Morrison

In order to earn the moniker of Mr WrestleMania, an individual would have to reach or better HBK's level, which I don't see anyone ever doing at Mania or anywhere else. He is one of a kind. The Showstopper.

You guys have to remember, Shawn gave HIMSELF the title of Mr. WrestleMania, as a gimmick. He created the gimmick (which he earned btw) and it has become a legend on its own. Mr. WrestleMania is not a title we can just give somebody. It's something they have to earn. Who, in their WM career, has just made the crowd drop jaws?

I know it's very cliche to say this, but John Morrison has that potential. Put a little more personality in his character. No more bland entrance. He's going to need to dance around. Create a show before, during, and after the match.

But in all honesty, nobody will probably ever have the nickname "Mr. WrestleMania" again. Just like there will be no other "Dead Man", "Mr. Perfect", "Rattlesnake", "Ultimate Opportunist" or "Cerebral Assassin".

Take a look at HBK's last 12 WM matches...9 of them have been MATCH OF THE YEAR! And look at the three that weren't: Wrestlemania 23 vs. John Cena, which was still the best match of the night and only lost to a better match between HBK and Cena on Raw. Wrestlemania 21 vs. Chris Jericho, one of the best WM matches of all time, it lost to the Iron Man match between Lesnar and Angle. And Wrestlemania 14 vs. Steve Austin, when HBK had a broken freakin back that would make him retire after the match.

That's why he is Mr. WrestleMania. Until somebody comes along and puts on a MATCH OF THE YEAR every single year at Wrestlemania, there will not be another Mr. Wrestlemania.

So basically what you're asking is... who is going to steal the show at WrestleMania this year, and will they be able to steal the show consistently over the years to establish himself the new "Mr. WrestleMania"... or otherwise be a multiple time WrestleMania MVP... That's hard to say, because that list of HBK matches were all historic and high profile matches... what new guy will fit into that mold... fill those shoes... and set new precedents? When's the last time a precedent has been set in WWE, while at the same time have it be a show stealing phenomenon? If that happens, it will be an anomaly and that person will reach true greatness in the industry... I'm rooting for Morrison, but are we likely to see anyone set precedents AND steal the show? Undertaker really only stole the show at his last few WMs and that was with the combo of his legend and his opponents overall heat and talent. It really has to be something special... Morrison won't do it in a MITB match... he could've done it in a WWE Championship match with Miz though.. (Foot in mouth)

To earn that title they'd have to outperform and outdo the legacy that Shawn left over the course of 16 years. Put simply no-one will ever do that because no-one even comes close to his combination of wrestling, mic and storytelling skills. Not Danielson, not Morrison and certainly not John fucking Cena.

Im gonna have to say no one, people will put on great matches consistently, but no one will get that title, i think so at least. But, if i had to say someone, iI'd probably go with JoMo, just because of his ability and similarities to hbk, but its a long shot, morrison will get as many titles as hbk but will never be the legend that was mr wrestlemania, if you get what i mean

truth be told, i am a HUGE Shawn Michaels fan. and im not trying to be biased in any way, but i am interested to see if at this year's WM there will be a Match Of The Year that Shawn Michaels puts on every year. i want to see if there's someone that says, "this WM could've used a Shawn Michaels match." or "their just wont be another Match Of The Year like Shawn Michaels put on." again, im NOT being biased b/c he's my fave wrestler, im NOT saying AT ALL that there is no one out there that cant do what he does. but im wondering if this year will be different without him.

Wow, this is actually a fascinating question. I could probably ramble on for a paragraph or two about the possibility of there ever being another Mr. Wrestlemania, but I'll forgo that to get to the real question.

Here are my choices.

John Morrison- He's not the wrestler that HBK was, but he's very talented and extremely entertaining. He's provided two fantastic PPV moments at Royal Rumble and Elimination Chamber, and I wouldn't be surprised if he can top that at Wrestlemania 27. If he can, he may have himself a spot locked up for himself as a permanent Mania singles competitor.

John Cena- The dude can put on a good match when given the chance, but he's never really stood out at Wrestlemania. I don't know why this is, but every year he is overshadowed by other matches. Perhaps with HBK gone, Cena will put the show on his shoulders and try to make his match the best one ever.

Dolph Ziggler- He puts on fantastic matches with everyone he steps in the ring with, he can tell a story in a match, and he can put on a good feud. We'll know if he has what it takes for sure once they separate him from Vickie (which seems imminent), and I'm betting he'll still be red hot after she's gone.

Daniel Bryan- Hey, he was trained by Mr. Wrestlemania, it's possible that he'll be the next Mr. Wrestlemania. It's obvious he knows how to put on a great match, he just needs to find his place in the WWE in order to get to that spot. Perhaps in a year or two we'll see DBD wrestling a singles match at Wrestlemania.

Out of anyone at the moment, whoever is picked as the next Mr. WrestleMania should be someone who has a lot of WrestleMania's left in him, gets the crowd into the match, gets a reaction and makes WrestleMania moments. That man should be...

John Cena. He's the only real choice at the moment although I can understand why people would say John Morrison, but I just don't see it. Besides his Money in the Bank spot where he back flipped with a ladder in his hands, I just think he's got a lot more to prove at WrestleMania's before he can truely take on a title that big from someone as big as HBK.

John Cena gets the crowd going and has put on some great matches too with Shawn Michaels, Triple H/Orton and his match with Batista was quite good too I thought. He is THE man in WWE and always has important matches at WrestleMania and always creates WrestleMania moments. I think it should be John Cena. That's a lot coming from someone who doesn't like Cena.

There will never be another Mr. Wrestlemania.

The reason Shawn Michaels is Mr. WM is because he stole the damn show EVERY time he got in the ring. He's not my favorite, but anyone in their right mind knows that Shawn is the best in-ring preformer of all time. Shawn could pick a guy up off the street and have a good match with him. My point is that only the best of the best wrestlers could hope to shine like him. The only guy in the business right now that even holds a candle to Shawn's in-ring ability is Daniel Bryan. And Bryan will never obtain the stardom that Shawn has.

What? We have to have a designated wrestler to hype as the archetype of the show? "Mr. Wrestlemania" wasn't a manufactured gimmick to boost Shawn Michaels' character. It was something he got a reputation as. "Who's the next Mr. Wrestlemania"? Yeah, I mock that. It's just such a dumb question. About as dumb as asking "who will be the next *insert major wrestler*?" Grow up. This isn't a fantasy league where you fill out roles. Should we ask who'll be "Mr. Bragging Rights"? Or "Mr. Summerslam"? Good grief.

For those saying Undertaker, he is not "Mr Wrestlemania". Undertaker has an incredible streak/record but he has had about 3/4 decent matches in the 18 he has won! Majority of his matches were a complete joke (Bossman, Show/Albert, Gonzalez).

Of the current roster, I can't see anyone at this moment in time. Maybe Morrison if he gets a personality so he is remembered as a great. Cena also has a good record at Wrestlemania, some of his matches have been pretty good aswell but he needs to fight some big hitters to be Mr Wrestlemania...Rock & Taker would be good starts.

As far as the moniker of Mr Wrestlemania goes, only 1 man comes close imo. That is Bret Hart. Piper, Owen, HBK, Austin were all classics.

Short answer, no. Just like in MLB there will never be another Mr. October there will never be another Mr. Wrestlemania. However there are some fellas that could really make their name at Wrestlemania. I think there are a few on the roster now that could end up making a run at the title but no one will EVER fill HBK's shoes. Wade Barrett has a chance. I know a lot of folks aren't super high on him but as soon as Drew McIntyre puts it all together he has the potential through the roof, John Morrison without his gimmick could become huge. As much as I HATE to say it I think if he ever stops trying to be the Rock the Miz could actually become a HUGE talent in the E. He needs to develop his own gimmick and the sky is the limit.

No one will ever come close to matching or overtaking HBK's thrown but as far as building someone who consistently brings "it" to wrestlemania year ina and year out.

I say scratch the mixed tag and scratch Bryan vs Sheamus.

Bryan vs Ziggler vs Morrison

or

Bryan vs Ziggler vs Morrison vs Kofi Unification Ladder Match

I feel either one of these would have great match quality and would carry over into future mania cards being exciting knowing guys like bryan, ziggler, and morrison all can perform great on the big stage. Imagine a triple threat match like that potentially stealing the show its those kind of matches that could lead to a

Bryan vs Punk match at mania
Morrison vs HHH match at mania
Ziggler vs Orton match at mania and all actually being draws

I didn't see this anywhere else, so if it is blah blah blah......

Being that this is the first Wrestlemania that Shawn Michaels is retired for, I was wondering who's going to be the next "Mr.Wrestlemania"

I'm sure no one else will be given that nickname, nor do I think someone is going to be pushed in that manner to "replace" HBK. What I am asking is who do you think is going to step up and be that guy who steals the show at 'Mania every year. I've got a few guesses....

Dolph Ziggler: This is probably my pick as the guy who's going to do it. He's young and he can freakin' go, as he's shown in his matches with Edge, Daniel Bryan, etc.

Daniel Bryan: Who better to suceed HBK than his student? On top of that he's arguably the best in-ring technician that the 'E has.

CM Punk: Everything this guy does is gold, but he has the unenviable task of trying to steal the show with Randy Orton, but he always somehow makes whatever he does gold.

John Morrison: Has been compared to Shawn Michaels in recent years, and this guy has pretty much invented a new style of wrestling. Definitely the first of his kind. He's been more or less, the hilight of pretty much every PPV in the last six months, can he be it at the one that counts?

Who do you think is going to Steal the show, not only this Mania but for the next several years? (feel free to nominate your own guys)

Doubtful that moniker will ever be applied to someone besides HBK, but if anyone, I guess it would have to be Morrison. He has still got a long way to go to get there, though.

I could see the WWE asking their "universe" to decide this with an online poll.

That was how Cena became last year's superstar of the year, which was a joke. Whenever they do those polls it's nothing but a popularity contest. An experienced jury would have given that award to either the Miz or (surprisingly, but undeniably) Kane.

Mr. Wrestlemania will stay with HBK forever. I don't see anyone else being given that name even when they do still the show. If I had to take a vote on the next great performer at WM, it would probably be Daniel Bryan. WM is more about the performance and IMO nobody performs in the ring better than him right now.
