When Did You Start Liking Zack Ryder?

SMKM

Occasional Pre-Show
This is pretty much the same as my last thread. Simple Question, when did you start liking Zack Ryder? To say he's nothing special, or nothing relevant now is a HUGE understatement. The guy's a beast! I love Ryder, and I hope WWE doesn't drop the ball with him. Hoping to see him either go for or defend the US title in a one on one at Mania this year. Anyway as you can see from my sig, I've been a Ryder fan since the beginning. I'm not someone who started liking him after his YouTube vids, no I've liked him when everyone thought he was horrible and future endeavored. I've always liked his gimmick, I thought when I first heard him doing the Woo Woo Woo's it was hilarious as hell. Go back and watch when he did his first WWW, he was still with Hawkins (who deserves MUCH more than what he gets). I'm happy he dropped the Major Brothers gimmick and created the Long Island Loudmouth and I'm glad he never changed the gimmick and just turned face. Nothing but greatness from here on out for his future. WWWYKI Bro!

I am not a fan. I don't hate him, but he just doesn't interest me that much. Stupid gimmick, average in-ring skill, and weak finisher (unless sold by Ziggler). I don't have a problem with his spot right now but people saying he should be a World Champ have lost their damn minds, in my humble opinion.

Being a fan of tag team wrestling, I actually liked the Major Brothers. But when they became Zack Ryder and Curt Hawkins alongside Edge, I really started liking them as a tag team. Once Zack turned to this Jersey shore crap, I just couldn't stand it. I still can't stand it. I don't understand the appeal. His catchphrase is very annoying and now they've stuck that stupid quote on the beginning of his theme. I just wish he'd go back to normal and join up with Curt Hawkins or even Trent Barretta and do the tag team thing again. Hell make it a stable with those three guys. Zack Ryder should never become a world champ and people who say he should are morons. It's been pissing me off lately with him beating Dolph Ziggler lately, how can Dolph become a world champ if he's been jobbing to some jobber like Ryder? I know he's gotta pass that belt on to someone, but why does it have to be Ryder? Because fans of his stupid youtube show are screaming for it? I guess if you're a nobody midcarder that no one cares about, then create an annoying internet show and then fans will of a sudden like you. I'm not saying the OP is like that, but I'm sure most fans of Ryder hopped onto the youtube bandwagon and became his "fan."

After he began his youtube show. I kind of dug him back when he was on ECW with the unusual tights, but when he got rid of them I lost all interest in him. He looked so generic. I also hated he got a WWE championship match against Sheamus and ended Tommy Dreamer's career. Then he began doing the ZTLIS show and I really dug how creative and interesting he was. He still has at least 3 more years before he evolves into a main eventer, but right now he's doing just fine and he's on the right path.

Can't stand the guy. He's bland, he's boring, and he's nothing but a fad. Remember when Eugene was ultra popular? Fast forward a few years and that's Zack Ryder. In a few years he'll be forgotten and nobody will care about him.

IMO he's not charismatic at all when he talks and his in ring skills are average at best. Still though, good for him for taking the initiative to get his name out there and create a gimmick that apparently works.

Let's see i started liking ryder right around the time he lol jk i NEVER liked him and never will as long as he does that stupid dumbass woo woo woo crap he annoys me i turn the channel everytime hes on I don't see why he is so popular.

I'll be honest...I can't actually say for sure whether I like him or not. I think people will watch anything on YouTube, and being the first WWE Superstar with a consistent show online that panders to IWC fans is a recipe for instant success. I will say, he is at least connected with what the internet fans want to see and hear. Zack Ryder became the "meme" of the wrestling world. Like any meme the "Ryder Revolution" picked up incredible steam in spite of its overwhelming stupidity (at first).

Fast-forward to November 2011. "We want Ryder" is echoing around Madison Square Garden during the opening match of Survivor Series. Right now I see Ryder like I see Chocolate Rain... An incredibly stupid things that made its way around the internet, caught fire and got insanely popular. Even though it's lame, it's hilarious and you can't help but want to see it over and over again. He's not exceptionally gifted in the ring. He's a below-average mic worker. There is no sane and logical explanation for why people love him... It's just the way we are.

Ryder is right now at the height of his popularity, but I worry that if the WWE actually give the fans what they want...he's going to fizzle like all the memes eventually do. There will be a couple people who still obsess over him - you know, the annoying people that still say "your mom" after every sentence - but he will be a flash in the pan. NOW, I sincerely hope for the sake of Ryder he can pursue something fresh before he gets stale, but he needs to be careful. Popularity comes with incredible risk of stagnation. If Ryder finds himself in the main event every single week, I'd bet money the fans will eventually turn on him. Of course, it's likely they'll just stop caring altogether first.

NEVER! I'm not a fan of the part timers (Rock, Foley, Jericho, etc) coming in taking a full timers position, but if guys like Zach Ryder are the "future", then we are in for some boring times!

Wow. So much hate in this thread.

I'm gonna say episode 9 of his show.

I remember a thread here early this year created by someone asking peoples opinions on his show; and it was the first time I even knew he had a show. It was getting a positive response from posters so I decided to check it out; and I instantly fell in love.

The pop culture references, the wrestling puns, the amusing skits, the assortment of characters etc., just provided me with 3-7 minutes of solid entertainment every week (as opposed to Tommy Dreamer TV, or Daniel Bryans 'Buried'). The way he was so desperate to get on TV every week, paying out WWE about how he was underutilized, to where he is now. He deserves the recognition, the chants, the sold out merch.

That's my 2c.

its not working.. it seems soo fake, so computerized. plus ANY1 else notice ryder just cant even move correctly in the ring.. he plants both his feet to the ground in a minor squat before he does anything.. it just looks awful.. makes me sad , remember how randy savage moved in the ring like a freakin ice skater somehow always on his tippy toes!!.. oh the talent.. yea zack is just a joke & im glad he puts the effort in w/ those quick stupid internet shows.. its better than not tryin at all - (tyson kidd) but i just wish ryder was 1/4 as talented as tyson in the ring.

Never. I don't like Zack Ryder and don't see him as ever being a main event wrestler or don't even find him one bit entertaining. What I have gained for him as of late is respect at how he went about things and I take my hat off to him for that. I do not relate to his character at all though so as far as his character and WWE happenings...he is not for me and I wont ever be a fan. Have no problem with him being around though...I like gimmicks and characters and I like ones on the roster I can dislike as much as ones I can like.

From the second I heard his theme song upon his debut in WWECW, I was a fan. He was just so cool to me from the start and as the days went on I liked him more and more. I love the fact that even though traditionally wrestlers are supposed to be tough and macho here comes Zack with all his action figures and fangirling over John Cena being in his videos. He's a big ass kid with an even bigger heart and a legit admiration for the people he works with and that's what I love about him.

i like the fact that he has done something different and created a buzz around himself by using YouTube and twitter and whatever the hell else he has an account on. It stands out and makes people take notice. So many other wrestlers just seem content to sit back and take their paycheques and do whatever the management tells them to do without complaint or making suggestions of their own as to how they can get over.

Zack Ryder was determined to get himself over and by being creative he has managed to make people interested in him and has basically forced the WWE creative team to do something with him. If other wrestlers did something along those lines and came up with ideas/catchphrases/gimmicks then maybe we wouldn't have so many cookie cutter boring superstars out there today.

2 examples of coming up with something yourself and forcing the changes are CM Punk and Zack Ryder, and look where they both are now- focal points of WWE programming. I have alot of respect for both those guys.

However, I am not a fan of Ryder in the ring, he bores me. I don't find him entertaining as a wrestler, and while I hope he goes far as he obviously wants it so badly, I wouldn't miss him at all if he didnt appear on Raw again. He will not be being used in my WWE Universe on WWE 12. Also, he needs a new finisher, I hate his current one.

Love the guy! I'd probably say when I started hearing about the show on WZ and on these forums...the amount of attention it was getting, whether good or bad, really made me want to check it out and the rest is history! I am now a full blown member of the Ryder Revolution and am of the opinion that if he made the gimmick slightly more serious, he could really go places.

Ryder is above average at best. Kudos to him, for keeping up with his show, even when the E wouldn't acknowledge his existence. His persistence, youtube and people's fascination with it has gotten him popularity; but I just don't care. I mean his gimmick will go coz but obnoxiousness is best served fresh, and to be honest, I think Robbie E is better on the mic and promos than him.

Flame on, but Ryder will have to showcase something more as time progresses. He is fine in the ring, cool finisher bro.

I like his show. He has great ideas. He is creative and resourceful. I commend him for gaining fans with his own hard work. He was given a crappy gimmick, and he embraced it, and he turned it into a fad. I believe he is one of the reasons the WWE has a hard-on for twitter. LOL

As far as his in-ring ability, he has yet to impress me. He still doesn't have a significant match. I don't know if he can offer more.

WOW, almost everyone here are complete marks. Zack Ryder is fucking awesome, I for one can say that I liked him as soon as he became a single wrestler in ECW. When he fought Christian in those great PPV/Show matches. Honestly, he is charismatic (only a ****** wouldn't see it) and he is a talented wrestler. Zack Ryder is ultra popular and that is how he will prosper.

i didnt..the guys a clown and a half. The sad part is hes the closest thing to a midcard baby face that the WWE has right now. But im really just waiting for the day when the IWC turns on him like you do everything else you ask for

Wow Wow Wow! So much IWC-hate to a poor wrestler that basically was born in the Internet Wrestling Community! I actually find Zack Ryder funny. His bits are way funnier that Colt Cabana's "Creative Has Nothing For You". His "mark out moments" when he meets John Cena, his naïveness, and his on-purpose failing swag (CALL ME!) all that make up for a great comedy superstar.

Can't wrestle? It doesn't matter! He's a helluva entertainer! I mean, his way better in the ring than the Ultimate Warrior, and the Ultimate Warrior is one of the great! Take it easy folks! Give Ryder the support he deserves.

Who can or can't say he will be or not a main eventer? RELAX! Let's enjoy the Ryder Revolution!

When I see this, I just imagine you guys in the future bashing now-favorites Cody Rhodes and Dolph Ziggler. Go "boo" the faces in the live events, since that's what makes you feel smart.

And by the way, ECW's Zack Ryder made me a fan since day 1. And saw him debut in The Dirt Sheet being all "woo woo wii woo" helped too.

Z true long island story episode 1...honeslty the only expose he's had before he was just an edge rip off literally and after he wasnt seen from much. but his first episode showed how much charisma this guy has i was hooked instantly.. hes getting better in the ring and its only time until he gets that us title

I liked him during his feud with Tommy Dreamer in WWECW. Then I forgot about him (as will happen when he's not on TV).

Then I saw him in a dark match on Raw against Yoshi Tatsu back in April 2010 (the Raw that was mainly SD b/c the Raw guys were stuck in Europe b/c of the volcano), and I thought he had a really good match and wondered why he wasn't on TV more. FFWD to Z!TLIS 1, and that was when I really became a fan.

I've watched him since him and Hawkins debuted as the Major Brothers, weren't TOO impressive, at the time, however through the turn to become the Edgeheads, and the reality they weren't actually brothers, is when they started to develop a bit more.

However when they went their separate ways and Ryder had that excellent first match with Christian on ECW which even shocked the agents, because nobody expected Ryder to have such a good performance, that was the match that instantly made me enjoy him. Now he's developed well, and got one of the largest followings in the WWE of the current roster.

Can't say i'm a huge fan of his gimmick but i have a lot of respect for the guy.

The guy was going nowhere except being a regular on superstars, but instead of waiting for an opportunity like 90% of the locker room,he took matters in his own hands and started his own self-promotion with his youtube show.

I just have to respect a guy who takes intitiatives like that and to me,that's says that he's willing to go the extra mile to make it in the business.

This is a tough question, it truly is. I truly enjoy Ryder and his Z True Long Island Long Island stories on YouTube. They're funny, and Ryder has really carved out a niche for himself. But the question here remains- Does this translate into a likeable wrestler/Superstar. Does his Internet show make him someone I want to see on my television in important roles? The endorsements from the Rock & Cena, they're great. But do they translate into a likeable character? In other words, does Ryder's show make him into a reliable, useable character within the realms of WWE, and specifically on Raw?

I would argue that it doesn't. Not to take anything away from Ryder and the show he's done a phenomenal job with getting himself over as a comedy figure, but it makes it harder for me to take him seriously as a player on Raw. When they re-introduced him, he was nothing more then a fist-pumping afterthought who interacted briefly with Cena backstage. But has anything changed with regards to Ryder? Yeah he's been given more TV time and has been presented as a player, and the rub from teaming with Cena a few weeks back was nice. But does that change the fact that he's mostly a comedy figure? All the wins over Swagger and Ziggler doesn't change that. Look at his match with Del Rio two weeks ago. He was quickly squashed, which shows that creative doesn't see him as big time player also.

By reading this, you may think I don't like Ryder. Nothing could be further from the truth. I began to love him when he started to do the youtube videos, but i like him as a comedy player. He can go in the ring, no doubt. But for me to take him serious as even a US title contender, he needs a gimmick change, to be honest. Even with as much success as he's had with this gimmick, he really hasn't risen above comedy level, has he? I'd love to get behind him as more then that, but as for now, I simply see(and like) him as a low-to-mid-card comedy threat, but not even US title material.

Bingo. To each their own, but I believe that this is what we should be liking Ryder for, not his comedy. It's not that it's a bad thing, as it's what's got him noticed. However, it's truly his performance in the ring that matters, not what he does on the Internet, however enjoyable that may be. In the end, he needs to be presented as an in-ring threat with credibility, not someone who uses comedy to get over. There's nothing wrong with enjoying his Youtube show- I do as well. But I think we need to consider the fact that the show, while beneficial in getting him initially noticed- may also be the thing that's holding him back from becoming a serious wrestler.
