Video Games Tourney hype thread

I played the first POP and liked it, heard everyone raving how the second was the best and finally bought it. I couldn't see that it was either any better than the first or that good in general. I really didn't like the premise of the game. Never played CONTRA but I can see POP WW getting put down without too much difficulty.

Sorry this is a bit random but does anybody know if there was ever found to be a bug in the game WWF No Mercy. See I've had a copy for years and what it basically does is delete all the information you've stored up at a random time, could be after a day, could be two weeks but it always did it eventually and without fail and that means no belts, created or secret characters etc... I've always found it massively frustrating.

No Two Thrones easily advanced over Championship Manager. Why are you knocking Warrior Within though? It's a great game. I do understand if you're voting for Contra b/c it's a childhood favorite hell I logged a lot of hours into the PS game with my brother.

Yep; all early versions of the game (at least in the EU) did that. I remember having to take mine back to the shop.

Other than the insanely and unneeded dark storyline and choppy frame rates(the graphics were very nice but as I said, choppy frames), PoP was a good game. That's all it is, is a good game. Contra however was a great game. It's difficulty and ability to have multiple players on one screen made for major fun. It was sheer brutality at it's best and a game that actually required major skill to beat.

Don't take me for an idiot spouting "oh this game is better than this game" with no reason to back it up. Just because you have a hard-on for a certain game doesn't mean it should surpass what is praised as one of the best games on the NES with ease.

Oh come on. The fact that Tetris is beating Starcraft right now proves that

a) You'll vote against a game you've never played;

and b) you're not actually reading any of the arguments.

I would implore you to go to that thread and at the very least carefully consider both my and Salviswin's points before making a decision. I think I've argued well enough to disputed any points to at least get it over Tetris.

It's not just a good game. A game should be rated on storyline and gameplay and in both aspects POP> Contra. And I've played both so don't take me for some young dude who is just into PS2 and PS3 games.

I fail to understand how the story is unneccesarily dark. The Prince changed the timeline and therefore he must suffer. In fact I would go on to say that indeed Warrior Within has more twists and a better story than any of the POP games.

I'm not saying that POP is much better than Contra but certainly a little better.

To come to think of it, I thnk that Contra could end up being a dark horse too. It surely is one of the most fun shooting games of all time.

I'll actually be fine with anything but a number 1 seed vs number 2 seed final. Ocarina of Time is a sweet game but I do nt exactly get the hype about Goldeneye.

My feeling is that Ocarina of Time is going to run away with it this year. Looking at the voting so far, no other game has anywhere near as much support.

It's facing Super Smash Bros which was completely out shined by the latter games.

It's extremely possible, but there are quite a few games that can go over it.

I think the only way it's going down is if it ends up facing Mario 64 or Galaxy and splits the numerous Nintendo fanboys.
