Video Game Music

One of my favorite games and game-theme:

This is a remix version of the theme music from all the levels. It is quite good :worship:

Vomitron is amazing :p

their Double Dragon one is wayy better though

best game ever, with the best music ever

well....

asides from the opening to persona 4

damn sexy theme =D

There's a lot of specific sound tracks I can think of... However, I really dig the soundtrack from LA Noire. It very much fits the period. it does have music that is new along with period correct music. It is nice.

Other games I can really groove on:
Halo series
Final Fantasy
Legend of Zelda.

There's more but I can't think of any specifics right now. They are great pieces per each series... there's specifics that I'll post when I get time....

I've done several Final Fantasy tracks in here, but I haven't done many from FF8, so here comes the boss theme from that game:

It's an awesome boss battle theme and while I have mixed feelings about FF8 overall, I could never get enough of the boss fights simply due to wanting to hear this track one more time. Sometimes back when the game was new (and we didn't have easy access to music like today with Youtube videos) I'd even go easy on the boss monsters, or leave the spell window open without doing anything for a few minutes to hear the track a little longer. That is, unless I was facing guys like Omega Weapon who actually put up a fight. Squall's Lionheart and Irvine's Pulse Ammo would be more than enough to take them out with all the levelling and drawing I did though. Other than the one from FF4, this is probably the best boss theme in the whole series. My favorite part is from 0:50 to 1:30. I find that to be the most intense and exciting part of the track.

This week I bring another boss theme. This isn't any ordinary battle track though, it's one of those RPG tracks that only gets used on fights against more important villains rather than the lower tier boss monsters. Tales of Symphonia's Beat the Angel.

This track plays when you face members of Cruxis such as Remiel, Kratos, and Zelos. Characters who take on an angelic form. It's a great track and I always love when tracks such as this play during a battle so that you can differentiate the more intense fights against important villains from the regular bosses because if the same boss theme had been used for every fight like they did in even older games (or the same battle theme like in final fantasy 1 on the NES) then some of the fights such as the ones against the angels would not have reached the same level of intensity that they do. Tracks such as this really help bring out those feelings in us gamers. It being an awesome track to hum along to as you defeat your enemy is obviously always going to be a big plus too.

I just recently started playing Final Fantasy XIII-2 and these two themes have been stuck in my head for days.

Amazing. Simply Amazing. I could listen to them all day.

This week I'll be doing something a little different.... A menu theme!

This track plays in Legend of Dragoon every time you open the menu screen. It serves the purpose of a theme for an intermission. Since it plays each time you bring up the menu or buy items at a shop, it would generally be either to stop playing momentarily or to gear up your party. The elevator music style that it follows fits well for an intermission. Need to take a break from playing to go grab a snack from the fridge? Have to go walk the dog for a few minutes? This song will play while Dart and his allies patiently await your return to continue their quest. I find that it also fits for the strategy building aspect of bringing up the menu as well. You're picking who will be in the party for the next quest and what pieces of equipment they will use. Heck, even when you are buying items at a shop this track pops up again. Times such as those do serve as another type of intermission, as you are preparing in between quests and battles for what comes next. So here's to one of the better intermission themes out there.

I have seen this thread countless of times. Went to post in it but never thought I could think of a song that stood out in any video game I have ever played. But for some reason, I feel compelled to post in it.
My contribution is from a new release game. (well five months ago)

This song being played in the last mission of saints row the third made up for the weak and short storyline. It got me from the casual upside down slump on the couch, to almost standing up. This song got my adrenalin racing over a game which has never been done before.

Today I bring another set of tracks from my favorite game, Tales of Symphonia.

This is Serenade of the Elves. It plays in the elven village of Heimdall. The song is a beautiful track, it brings out many emotions at once such as the sadness of the half elves who are not allowed inside, or the many questions that must be going through the heroes' minds as they wonder about the many mysteries of the forest they are in. I could listen to it on repeat all day, although that is the case for nearly the entire soundtrack for this game. It also has a remix, which plays in a floating city. I'll post that one too.

This is the remixed version that plays in the floating city where you face Maxwell, an optional pact battle. I really liked the use of remixes in this game and these two tracks are one of the better examples of it because they are so similar yet so different, they were done in amazing fashion. I wish more games could pull it off as well as Tales of Symphonia did. Several remixes of tracks in the soundtrack were used, and each was done very well.

I know most of these songs have been posted throughout this thread, and I haven't posted in a while so apologies now if someone else has already posted this, but this is worthwhile

http://hardcoregaming101.net/vgm/bestvgm2011.htm#listing

I don't necessarily agree with the order for their top songs, but there are a TON of great video game songs throughout the 1000 songs they post there, and they have links to YouTube where people posted the audio from the songs. Worth checking out if you love video game music

Here's two from Skyward Sword.

The next moment is from the end of the game. I have placed it in Spoiler tags for obvious reasons.

Skyward sword has the familiar Zelda theme yet a lot of very different things (including no compass, cuccoos) and one such thing is the lack of the main theme. One of the quests involves hearing parts of a song in order to unlock the location of the Triforce then this happens:

That moment made me go wow and really brought everything together nicely realising how much of a prequel it genuinely was.

Recently rediscovered my love for this OST.

Not strictly VGM but sort of is.

Bout time I posted in this thread again. Today we visit my favorite game, and one of the few Final Fantasies with out a Nobuo Sound track: Final Fantasy Tactics.

This is the intro, and for some reason I love this music. The slow mysterious music moves along with the text and finally presents its self in the title screen. It is just a taste of the great pieces which are to come.

Here are some of the Various battle themes in the game. Some portray a sense of urgency others, calm. Final fantasy tactics as a whole has some great orchestra pieces and the style of music fit well with the Medieval setting of the game. Now it does falter because most of the battle themes are very similar, but, the music is still gorgeous. And here we have an individual masterfully arranging bits and pieces of the OST into a lovely piano piece.

I have not bumped this in a rather long time, so to make up for that I'm going to do an analysis on each of the temples in Link's Awakening, which was the first Zelda game to feature unique tracks for each temple. That's 9 tracks as opposed to my normal 1 or 2, so that should make up for the month or so of not bumping this. Click the spoiler tags and enjoy the music! :)

First we have The Tail Cave. It's your typical sounding temple theme, and what the person playing the game may have thought each temple would end up having for a theme. One of the better ones.

The Bottle Grotto. This is the most catchy of the themes, and if they had to only pick one for all temples in the game then this is probably the one I would have chosen. It captures the temple setting perfectly and is very fun to listen to too. Other than The Eagle Tower it is the best in my opinion.

Third is The Key Cavern. This one sounds somewhat evil. Not the best, but not the worst either. I rank it toward the middle when comparing them all.

The theme for Level 4, the Angler's Tunnel. Ugh, this is the worst of the bunch. It's just a remix of the cavern theme and sounds nearly identical to it. They clearly got lazy, and this is the only one that I really dislike.

Catfish's Maw. I don't like this one that much either, but at least it isn't a lazy remix like the 4th temple theme was. This one is more boring than anything so I don't have much else to say about it.

Ah, the Face Shrine. The most difficult level in the game. This sounds extremely boring at first, but when given a longer listen it really grows on you. As I went through this temple my first couple of attempts at that game, I would find myself humming along to help cope with the frustrations that came with this temple. It's very disturbing yet calm.

The 7th temple, the Eagle Tower, had my favorite temple theme in the game. I don't know what it is, just something about it, it fits its setting so perfectly. Climbing up toward the top, not knowing what was around the next corner, just wanting to reach the end.... These are the thoughts that the theme brought out in me when listening to it, and it's exactly the same thoughts that the temple itself brings out in you as well. Another solid candidate alongside Level 2's theme if only one of the group had to be chosen for every temple.

Here is Turtle Rock's theme. You'd think they would finish up strong with the last temple's music, but that didn't quite happen. It's average, and not really one I'm in a hurry to listen to again. Could be worse though, they could have gone with another lazy remix.

Speaking of remixes.... The optional Color Dungeon had an awesome theme. I really like it even though it is just a remix of the temple theme of the very first Legend of Zelda game. Can't go wrong with an old classic!

So that concludes my brief analysis on the temple music of Link's Awakening. I've had some internet issues for the past month, which is why I had not bumped this thread in weeks.

Going oldschool in this week's bump, a boss theme from a forgotten SNES gem.... ActRaiser!

This is the boss theme of the second Acts in each world, as well as the theme for the Death Heim level where you face every Act 2 boss again one after another. It's one of those boss themes you look forward to hearing and has aged rather well for a track that's around 20 years old. Some favorites of mine among the bosses who had this theme were the Wizard that turned into a Werewolf (I would replay his level constantly, to do the fight multiple times plus it was a fun level in of itself) and the Ice Wyvern who was really tough to defeat. The track also saw an appearance in my game, Division Blade, as the theme for when you fight Stanley Brevlee, one of the main villain's underlings.

I love this arrangement, it makes the hairs on my arm stand on end. Easily one of the greatest examples of video game music ever

I haven't given nearly as much attention to FF8 in this thread as I should, so....

This song plays in various temples/caverns in Final Fantasy 8. It captures the mood of not knowing what's around the next corner, like many great temple/cavern themes. I'd rank it toward the top of monster lair themes and hearing it brings back memories. Some good, some not so good. I grew so impatient of wandering around looking for the Tonberry King but hearing this in between the fights would decrease my frustration. Opening up the menu to fully prepare the party for an upcoming boss fight while this plays fits so well with the urgency in such a situation. Even if said preperation is something as small as making sure Shiva is equipped before facing Ifrit. It will live on as one of the best monster lair themes.

Mind you if you are waiting for pokemon black and white 2 I'm going tp wrap this entirely in a spoiler tag.

With the Japanese name Achroma he initially shows up between the third and fourth gym as just a regular trainer who you battle several times as the game goes by using just regular trainer music. Near the conclusion of the main story you find him aboard the neo team plasma ship as he is in fact partnered with them. It is then this glorious theme plays. After beating him you find out he isn't a bad guy and after the main story finally completes he can rebattle every day with a high leveled team.

Time to update this thread yet again!

This is the castle theme from Legend of Dragoon. It's a catchy track, and one that has gotten stuck in my head a lot over the years; but not in a way that bothers me. Often in real life if I enter someplace fancy or castle-like, this track starts playing in my mind. That's the type of impact it had on me, it is THE royal castle theme. Not many video game songs when listened to make me think of things other than the game it originates from. I do get flashbacks of Albert's castle when I hear it, but it makes me think of all sorts of other kings and knights when I listen to it also. Some from other games, some from myths or real life. A great under-rated track from a great under-rated game. A memory from it in the game is the first time I met Albert in his castle, I thought he was a cool king and already knew he was playable so I looked forward to playing as him later on, sure enough he ended up being one of the most useful characters.

Listen guys, I know I have not really posted in this thread, but PLEASE give the track I post now a listen all the way through.

When I was a kid, my Mum and Dad bought me an Amiga computer, and as my Dad was a head of a High School College, he was able to get his students to copy loads of games for me so I never had to buy any new ones.....

One of those games was Lotus Turbo Challenge 2

Yesterday I was looking on Your Tube for something random and this popped up on the sidebar, as soon as I heard the music....i almost burst into tears. It took me back to playing the game with my late Grandad in my old bedroom at my old house....the music is amazing and just makes me shiver when I hear it.

I have converted it to MP3 so I can listen to it on my Ipod....please guys, listen to it all the way though, you will miss the bit at 1:33 where it changes into something soooo special!

OMG I am listening to it right now.....I fucking love this sooooooo much!!!!!!

I'm sure someone will have already have said it but:

Aerith/Aeris Theme: Final Fantasy 7

A beautiful song that plays at an especially moving moment and the music fit the depressing atmosphere perfectly and is matched on screen as the white materia takes each bump before disappearing into the water, and the fact the battle against Jenova takes place with the music still playing keeps you in that sad frame of mind.

Here's another....

It's the pirate theme from Final Fantasy 5! I'll never forget the classic exchange between Bartz and Reina when they first stumble upon the pirate lair. The party is lost on the way to the Wind Crystal, only to find a bunch of pirates in the cave. The moment they realize that they found a pirate lair, this hilarious piece of dialogue comes up:

Reina: Maybe they could give us a ride?

Bartz: Ummm.... They're PIRATES!!!!

:lmao:

Classic.

It's a very fun song to listen to. I wish it been used more often, my idea would have been to use it as a theme for all of the bars too, and not just as the pirate theme. A great track like this one is wasted by only being used a handful of times in the game. It plays in the first town's bar while Faris and the pirates are in there drinking as you purchase supplies, I associate it with NPC's drinking in the bars too for that reason. It would have fit in great as the game's bar theme, but that aside.... Yet another FF track that will live on.

The battle theme for your final battle with N on Pokemon Black and White. I love it because (1) it sounds epic (as does much of the Pokemon music) and (2) it has so much meaning behind it. Listen to the song with headphones. In one ear, you will hear a clock ticking in the background. In the other, you hear a heartbeat. This is a representation of the "goal" of Team Plasma to separate people and Pokemon.

A whole month without a new post? We are WAY beyond overdue for another update to this thread. I present to you all, a litle piece of video game trivia.... The one and only time in video game history that an epic RPG battle them is outdone by a racing game theme. Confused? Read on.

I'm talking about the final battle from Final Fantasy 3. It started out as an 8 bit track, click the first spoiler tag to listen. It was incredibly ahead of its time, I still find it hard to believe that this song (and the battle itself!) came on the NES. Such an awesome track for 8 bit standards.

NES Version

Then we have the DS remake, which was a very well done remake of the track for the updated version of the game. Still epic beyond belief, still awesome. Go on and click on the second spoiler tag to have a listen. I might or might not have already analyzed this track in this thread, but the reason I am bringing it up is the third version, which comes next. Listen to the DS Version first though.

DS Version

Finally, we have the lesser known version of the song. It comes from the game Chocobo Racing, a Final Fantasy themed racing game, somewhat similar to Mario Kart but with FF characters in it such as Cloud, Squall, Black Mage, Chocobos, etc. The track that plays in the Illusion World is another remix of the FF3 Final Battle theme, and it is so amazingly done. This remake actually came before the DS version did, and in my opinion is far superior. It's quite possibly one of the most epic and catchy themes I have ever heard. Hard to believe that this track is from a RACING game, yet it comes off even more intense than the version used in a final battle of an RPG game, let alone the fact that this version is older than the DS one.

Chocobo Racing Version

So there you have it, all three versions of the FF3 Final Battle theme and, to my knowledge, the only time in video game history, that I know of anyway, where a battle track from an RPG is outdone by a racing remake of itself. Enjoy the music! :)
