now for my response to slys comments earlier:
first lemme start by sayin that slys opinions are not only greatly respected but highly valued as well and whether i agree or not, i do take them into consideration because hes proven hes a very intelligent poster.
Thank you. Understand my response is not intended to make you look bad or wrong, just my explanation on your points.
but i have to say, for the most part i disagree with sly on this draft so far. now to be honest i have to say i expected you not to like my roster. by no means did was i planning to recieve a sterling evaluation because we seem to have differing opinions on what draws and what doesnt. i dont really think either of us is wrong, we just move in 2 different directions. you seem to be behind guys like hogan and cena, who draw the lights out and have tons of fans and hey i like both of them, not huge fans but i like them. with what hogans meant to the business and with how hard cena busts his ass for it, i could see how youd be behind them. however, as important as they may be, neither of them is the most skilled in their profession. see, i tend to lean towards guys who can put on impressive technical matches, hence my selections. (not to say cena and hogan havent had classics, theyve had plenty. but theres a big difference between a hogan/warrior classic and an hbk/benoit classic if you know what im sayin).
I understand what you are saying when it comes to the difference. What I hope you understand though is that a Hogan vs. Warrior classic drew three times what a HBK vs. Benoit classic would, in real life. Obviously, you have to take into consideration your current audience, but there is still that special big match feeling that only certain guys bring to your promotion. And, say what you want about a guy like Benoit, but he does not bring that big match, main-event, crowd pleasing, everyone stand up and take notice feel.
furthermore, to say ive had the worst draft so far made me laugh a little bit. actually alot. mostly cause im fairly certain that all the other 5 guys in this draft along with thousands of wz users would disagree with that. but then again, i didnt ask their opinion. i asked urs. ;-).
Actually, I'm quite certain that all 5 other people in this draft would rate their own roster ahead of yours. As an impartial and unbiased observer, your card holds the least intrigue at the moment.
now as for christopher daniels and bryan danielson. i think you said i couldve gotten them 3 rounds later or something to that affect. well in the last draft, they were both gone before the 6th round i believe, and i got them in the 6th and 7th. imo, i consider that a steal. also, im pretty sure i remember sam saying i stole his next pick when i picked daniels. so im not sure if they woulda been around that long. however im almost positive that great muta, bob backlund and barry windham will all be around in 3 rounds. in fact, they'll all be around in 7,8 or 9 rounds. i could even see 2 out of those 3 guys not getting picked at all. so if i wanted them, i could wait a while. and your right, they all could more then fill the technical wrestler ideal that ive been going for, but the people here on wz, the ppl who will be voting for the top show, would all prefer daniels and danielson over them. and the voters are the ones who counts.
Fair enough. I can tell you that if I was in the draft they wouldn't still be there, but I'm not. Knowing how your opponents will pick is very important, and if you think Dragon and Angel would be gone, then maybe you are right.
Of course, my whole point all along was that those guys weren't WORTHY of being picked that high, and picking them that high was a waste, as their talent and abilities aren't worthy of such a high pick. If someone else would have picked them that high, it would have been a bad pick for them two.
moving forward, i found it interesting looking at the names on my roster that you would say i have no draws. no draws? really? without mentioning hbk and benoit im pretty sure edge and christian are both in the top 5 of each of their companies and sell alot of tshirts.
HBK had the poorest drawing reign of any WWF/E champion, probably ever. Benoit, while underrated as a WWE Champion draw, still for most of his career was a midcard to upper midcard wrestler. Neither one were ever a draw on the level of a HHH or Cena, much less a Hogan or Austin.
Edge probably isn't even in the Top 5 draws in the WWE right. Cena, HHH, Undertaker, Rey, Batista, HBK all draw better than Edge, and Jeff Hardy, Punk, and Orton are all probably right there with Edge. Christian, in a smaller company, is still outdrew by Angle and Sting, and possibly Samoa Joe.
So yes, no real major draws. In a mock draft of only 6 people, your roster draws very poor.
danielson is the best wrestler alive today
HAHAHAHAHAHA
No offense, but that statement explains your foolish (in my opinion) pick of AmDrag. There are a long list of names of professional wrestlers who are far superior to Danielson.
christopher daniels has as many hardcore fans as anyone out there.
More than Arn Anderson, former member of the 4 Horsemen? More than Jushin Liger or Great Muta who are legends on every major wrestling continent on the planet? More than Ultimate Warrior, one of the few guys to get popped as loud as Hogan AND have Hogan put them over clean? I think you could have done better. Again, this is why evaluating drafts before a lot of guys have been taken is not the best idea, as you may have a good idea of where to go with Daniels that I just don't know about, and you can't tell me for obvious reasons.
not to mention another versatile, flexible tag team in AMW and a guy who fans would kill to see comeback, in lesnar. the guy is making his comeback in my company. that would draw like crazy unless your not into the whole "one of the most talented monsters in wrestling history coming back" thing.
You don't have AMW on your roster, and hadn't tried to inadvertently pick him when I reviewed.
Lesnar was never that great of a WWE draw when he got a monster push. What makes you think he'd be some kind of great draw after he turned his back on the wrestling business and has disrespected it every step of the way?
And, you said one of the most talented monsters. You must have been referring to someone else, because while Lesnar had potential, he was far from good or polished. Goldberg was a superior wrestler to Lesnar by far.
i do definitly agree that adding some high flyers/brawlers is a must tho. however i feel those spots are much easier to fill later on. just my opinion tho. everyone thinks differently.
I disagree, as I would think that all the indy style pretend "technical wrestlers" would be much easier to get later on, and you just need them to fill the midcard.
i just have one more thing that i couldnt really understand. you said i should move in an ecw-type direction. i hardly believe i need gimmick matches to sell at all. every single wrestler ive drafted is capable of putting on incredible singles matches without any stipulations at all. i mean they could also put on 5 star gimmick matches, but i certainly dont think i need them.
With your rather poor drawing roster, but one ripe with gimmick match ability and legend, I think you'd be foolish not to exploit that.
like i said before, its the ppl on wz who are going to be voting here. the majority of them want to see highly talented wrestlers in wrestling matches. for example, and believe me ive never talked to him and dont know much about him, i think if i were to ask someone like Y2Jake to put our rosters in order from best to worst, im sure he'd hav me far from the bottom, because from what i can tell from his posts he seems to be more into the style that i am, which is good talented wrestlers. but then again, i have no idea and as said before its all about the difference of opinion. that doesnt mean anyones opinion is wrong, its just different.
Agreed. Just remember that when you read my response. It's your draft and you can do as you like, and there is a LONG time to go, but when I reviewed I had you on the lower end.
in my opinion, cm drafted cena and hogan and got great reviews from you but dont you realize how many ppl absolutely despise cena/hogan.
And I don't think you realize how many people lurk on this forum, people who don't post but enjoy reading other posts, and voting in polls. There's a lot more Cena fans around than you may believe, and anyone who grew up during Hulkamania would be hard to not vote for Hogan, as he can go either as face or heel.
u hav a great roster so dont think im tryin to bash it or anything.
lastly, i just wanna say that i continue to gain respect for slyfox cuz hes awfully blunt and very honest. i like that in ppl. i hope you wont mind if i keep asking your opinion. right now i think everyones rosters are exactly the same cuz we havent really started the writing process. its the writing and the creativity that will set shows apart. we're all gunna have our share of great wrestlers but when the fueds are made and the matches are written, then we"ll see whose got the best show. until then, im still under the way of thinking that everyones show is about the same.
By all means, ask any time. If you don't like the criticism I provide, feel free to tell me why. I have no problem with that, and you aren't going to hurt my feelings any.
Just don't ask for a review until you have more wrestlers on the card, otherwise it'd be kind of pointless.
As for Brian, I'll share my thoughts after he makes his next pick or two.
damn, this post is silly long. sry for anyone whose gonna read all this crap. ill shorten things up in the future.
Not a big deal. It's mostly addressed to me, and I don't mind reading and responding to a post of this length at all.
