UK Members - Jimmy Carr!?

Hard Hit Prince

Not really working as a
To mainly the residents of the UK here on wrestlezone - what are your thoughts on comedian Jimmy Carr? Not only his TV shows like "8 Out of 10 Cats" but also is stand up comedy routine.

I for once think that the man is brilliant. If I ever need to say something highly unappropriated he's my main guy! Also legit question - Is comedy something "big" in the UK mainstream media?

I think he is funny as fuck but a lot of people don't like him.

Comedy over the last few years in the UK has really took off.

Sorry, I'm from the US, but there is some UK Programming I watch, and I just wanted to say that Jimmy Carr is one of my favorites. I have recently watched his latest comedy special and it was gold. I also like Dylan Moran but I believe he's an Irishman.

Most people either love him or hate him, I just find him to be OK. There's better comedians out there at the moment, but he's still entertaining and pretty funny.

I'm Irish, but we share all the same television. Jimmy Carr is ok, but his act has gotten a little old for me at this stage. One liners tire me out. I actually think he's funnier on his panel shows. He's quick on his feet and the jokes come off much more genuine.

If I was to go for a UK comedian (if you seek suggestion) I would be much more inclined to go for Steward Lee, who, though cynical and at times overly political, has got the craft of comedian down to a tee.

The background here is that someone told me two one-liners from Jimmy Carr and I found his specials and absolutely loved it. His "style" is what I look for in a comedian, I mean I understand that he goes out of his way a lot of times and that may piss some people off, but his quick thinking for heckles and I think he has a natural charisma makes him be at the moment my favorite comedian. He's also very intelligent and you can see that in his material, even if it's rude, it's well thought.

I've been watching 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown and by gawd almighty that Rachel Riley... I'm also most likely in love with Aisling Bea. That girl is smoking hot and genuinely smart!! If you haven't seen her, go for it. I've also watched all the Big Fat Quizz's and Richard Ayaode god damn, his delivery is awesome. Also just a reference - ordering a Pizza (as did in the Oscars) was originally done by Whitewall and Corden in the Big Fat Quiz of last year.

The UK has some great comedians, probably the best in the world! I'm from Portugal and I've been watching your panel shows instead of the general mainstream TV shows or pretty much wrestling for that matter.

EDIT: Thanks for the suggestion Danger Burger. I'll check it out for sure!

If you are digging the panel shows like 8 out of 10 cats you should dive in to QI, I'm sure you know of it already, but it might be the pinnacle of British panel shows. You'll also get to learn as you laugh. Never mind the Buzzcocks is also great, especially if you are a fan of music. There was a great Irish panel show called (wait for it) The Panel, and it was fantastic for its first season or two when it was hosted by Dara O Briain. He sucked on Mock The Week, but on his own he is a genius. That name again is Dara O Briain, and his own stand up is very very good.

Im quite the fan of Russell Howard and his show Russell Howard's Good News.

I am also a big fan of Noel Fielding and his more off the wall stuff.

Richard Ayoade and David Mitchell are both good as well.

Wouldn't say he's one of my favourites and I can't stand his laugh, but he's still a very funny dude.

Huge fan of Russell Howard, he slays me on Good News. His David Beckham impressions are funny as hell, and I almost died laughing at that Jedward/Titanic video he created.

I was going to say something about Jimmy Carr, but apparently the UK posters are the only ones with access to television and internet.

Noted.

Jimmy Carr's laugh is kind of a deal breaker.

But yeah, stand up comedy in the UK is fairly mainstream. Live at the Apollo is kind of a big deal. Also, Dara O'Briain is probably the best stand up working today. He has the best stories, and his improv skills are phenominal. He talks to the audience at every gig, and he never disappoints.

I said "mainly to the UK members" in my original post, because Jimmy Carr is more of a "national" star than an international one. But someone before you that wasn't from the UK and also knew him replied without being a dick so, next time, you should try it too.

I've always enjoyed his performances on TV. Getting to watch him live was one of the funniest events I've ever been to, even if I was in the front row and received most of his abuse in the jokes, he was that funny that I enjoyed being insulted by him.

I was only kidding, man. Lighten up.

Frankie Boyle for me, Carr though has some gems. I binge on the old NOTW from time to time and its class.
