Top 5 televison shows

 • Thread starter Thread starter The not-so Great Khali
 • Start date Start date
1.Rob & Big - This show is hilarious well --- was hilarous before it stopped showing. I can watch the episodes 20 times and not get tired of them. Just a great show!

2.Family Guy - This show is the best animated comedy i have ever seen .

3.Boy Meets World - I have seen nearly every episode of this sure to be classic show.

4.Degrassi - Great show for teenagers and got me hooked after the first episode.

5.Boondocks - One of the top shows on AdultSwim~ and one of my top shows i reccomend it.

1. Married with Children- Where to begin? For me this is the sitcom to end all sitcom's. The story of a poor woman's shoe salesman and the family that mocks him to no end. The reason I love this show is simple, everyone is funny in it. Well except for Marcy, not to say the character isn't good. but she isn't a Bundy. Even the Bundy's car "The Mighty Dodge" is memorable. Al and his constant telling of how he scored 4 touchdown's in 1 game while at Polk High. The strip club he and his friends go to is called the Nudey Bar, and his magazine of... Big 'Uns. Classic comedy.

2. Burn Notice- A spy gets fired from being a spy and the gov't freezes all of his assets and places him in miami where he does jobs for people that usually involve saving lives for little money (for him) all the while he wants to find out who burned him, why they did it and how can he get unburned. I know I don't make it sound interesting, but Bruce Campbell is a main character and everyone in the show in stellar.

3. How I Met Your Mother- It's a love story in reverse. The main character Ted voiced by Bob Saget tells his kids the story of how he met their mother. Number one reason to see it, NPH.

4. Scrubs- Never has a show made me laugh so hard then feel bad so fast. It's great and John C. McGinley rocks as Dr. Cox and his rants.

5. Sports Night- So happy it's coming to dvd. Sports center as a sitcom only you don't need to know anything about sports to understand it. Vastly underrated show.

Limiting tv series down to the 5 best may be hard, but here we go:

1. Friends - One of the most popular sitcoms of all time and easily my favorite in that genre. The replay value is very high; I watch it anytime I catch it on tv. The way the characters evolved during the series' 10 year run is interesting to see imo. I am really hoping that they make a movie based off the success of Sex & The City movie.

2. Family Guy - My all-time favorite cartoon sitcome here. I was never really big into the Simpsons, but would see an episode here and there. South Park I used to be big on and still watch it, but may miss an episode here and there. But Family Guy I was hooked on from the first time I saw it. I have seen every single episode, and still watch it on tv almost daily.

3. Dragonball Z - My favorite anime series here. The story is spectacular and I own nearly the entire series on dvd. Kind of nerdy, but back when I was a few years younger and new episodes were still coming, all the guys were into this show. There has been talk of a live-action film series forever and I hope it comes out. I know that Dragon Ball is due out next year, but imo Z if far superior to that or GT and if they can stick close to the story, I'd love to them do it on the big screen.

4. Spiderman/X-Men (The Animated Series) - Easily the best superhero cartoon series there are. They stick close to the original stories, much closer than any other adaptations. They also present more characters than you'd see in most other shows of their type. Both long-running Saturday morning series of the 90s that I used to love waking up early to see.

5. That 70s Show - Now this one is new to my list. I have seen quite a few episodes, but not nearly all of them. I plan to get all the DVDs and watch these. It's a cool take on a series that you don't get very much now in the new millenium..not as successfully anyway. Also it's hilarious

Honorable Mention - Happy Days, Wonder Years, South Park, Grey's Anatomy, Survivor, Fresh Prince of Bel Air

Can't remember if I've done this so I'll do it now;

1. Scrubs - My all time favourite show. It made you laugh, it made you cry, it made you cry with laughter. Zach Braff leads a fantastic cast with John C McGinley, Donald Faison, Neil Flynn, Sam Lloyd, Sarah Chalke, Judy Reyes and the rest. A must watch!

2. Family Guy - DAMN YOU VILE WOMAN! Family Guy is the best animated show ever. Screw The Simpsons, this is the family you want to watch. With it's crude jokes to Peter's gas it is just brilliant. I know the set ups to the cuts are awful and cheesy but I can't not love this show.

3. How I Met Your Mother - Someone said above a love story in reverse put it perfectly. It's well done. From the song "You Just Got Slapped" to Barney's "Legen-I hope your not lactose intolerante because the next word is-dairy!" - Great Show.

4. The Inbetweeners - It's brilliant! Only one series so far but it was just so well done. I would recommend this if you like posh kids getting the piss taking out of them.

5. Mock the Week - Had to put Mock the Week in. Dara, Frankie, Hugh, Russell and Andy make up the panel with two guest stars. Pure brilliance. Frankie Boyle is a madman. The Too Hot For TV DVD is just something else.

Since Becca loves how I break the 5 rule, I'll do a top ten favorites to watch (not necessarily what I consider the top 10 best shows ever) lol.

In no particular order:

1. Heroes - Freaking love this show. HRG/Noah Bennet is my favorite character alongside Sylar, followed by Peter to round out the top three. That little girl who plays Molly is so goddamn adorable, too. First little kid I actually consider to be cute, and this includes my own niece hahaha.
2. The Simpsons - The first 11 seasons, essentially, of the Simpsons are amazing, but ever since then, they've been horrible.
3. How I Met Your Mother - I went into this show thinking it would be a typical "romantic sitcom" and it totally did a 180 on me. Absolutely hilarious and in many ways, unconventional.
4. Burn Notice - Big fan of this show as well (no shit, right? Its on the list haha). I'm not positive about all the little technical details they spout out being correct, but really, who cares? Its very entertaining. I do have to admit, though, that I think they could have found someone better for the role of Fiona.
5. Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles - Read my post on the thread about this.
6. Big Brother - Nobody can top the three best players (and winners) in BB history: Will, Dick, and Dan.
7. Chuck - Rocky ground at first and I almost didn't continue watching it, but soon enough it sunk its teeth in me and now I'm devoted to it. It can sometimes get a little annoying, but overall, its a funny show that offers something a little different.
8. Family Guy - Family Guy started out great but has been declining as the jokes are becoming too "whacky", such as how Stewie went from having a homicidal rage about him to just being gay all of a sudden.
9. South Park - South Park, ironically, has gotten better over the years as they've dropped the crude humor and replaced it with satire.
10. The Tonight Show with Jay Leno - Headlines, Photo Booth, Jaywalking, and typically a great monologue. I can withstand Conan when he's not repeating the same 4 jokes, and I like Kimmel's personality (but not his show), but Leno's always entertaining unless he's given a really shitty guest.

Kenny vs. Spenny (This is a definite 1st place, the others are unordered) - Any guy who has not seen this show needs to, quite frankly the best show I have ever seen. The premise is that two best friends have to take part in competitions to beat each other, the winner getting to humiliate the guy. The two friends are complete opposites, one will cheat at all costs, the other will stick to his principles. It's all completely real and makes reality TV look credible for once, not to mention it's the funniest show ever. Just watch it, it's got a very small following, but that is probably lack of exposure to the mainstream as opposed to shoddiness.

Here is the most famous clip from the show

Stargate SG-1 - I'm not a big Sci-fi person or anything but if there was one show I can say I have seen 10 seasons it is this one, I didn't get into it until season 9 in the USA but I have DVDs of every episode and have enjoyed pretty much all of them, big shame it came to an end.

Peep Show - I'm never one to fall for cheap humour like stand-up or canned laughter, but I do laugh when something is genuinely funny, and this show is the best for catering to my style of humour, I watch this show almost religiously, I've seen every episode several times and would watch them again if I could.

Never Mind the Buzzcocks - Probably the time I do find obvious humour hilarious, I watch shows like Mock the Week and maybe laugh once in the show at some outragous comment made by Frankie, but NMTB is much more consistent for me, maybe I am just in the right audience bracket to get there humour, but it is quite simply the best panel show I have seen.

Doctor Who - I missed several episodes at the start of the season and then watched all 6 in one evening to catch up and then my addiction started again, I had to justify why some episodes were great to my friends but most of the time there was a general agreeance that it was the best show on at the time, I love David Tennant, but since this shows return to TV it has been incredible.

Shows I don't like - American Drama Shows: Lost, House, 24, Dexter, Prison Break etc. People latch onto American Culture these days way too much, a lot of these shows are just a fad that last for 1-2 seasons which then only reel in the habit audiences. I do quite like Friends though, but that's a comedy and not a Drama.

I'm not a huge fan of soaps, but I do dip in and out of the main three, I couldn't tell you all the people in them, but If I am bored and it's the evening I might watch one, they're so easy to pick up.

Notable Mention - Jeremy Kyle: People say it's a show watched by the unemployed, but I know a lot of people who find this show hilarious to watch, it's in the "So Bad it's really Good" category, but watching it is really fun, despite all the press coverage it get's over its shoddiness if that shit was scripted they would be winning every award under the sun ;).

My Current Top Five shows to watch. Again, Current, not all time.

5. Fringe. I'm not too sure yet on this show. The old man, Walter, gets very annoying rather quickly, like wise with the main character, Olivia. For some reason, I just can't stand the absent minded look that Olivia gives all the time. However, I like the concept of the show, and I find myself watching it every tuesday night. I think there are some cool ideas, and good plots. I'm just interested to see how long this show keeps my interest.

4. Supernatural: Wasn't much of a fan of the Winchester brothers for a while. I watched the first season. I liked it, but didn't make much of an effort to track down Season 2 when Cincinnati was left without the CW for a year. I caught back up to it last season, and I have to admit, I've been hooked since. It's all about escalation at this point. The first few seasons were about fairytales and Old Wives' Tales, now we're moving into territories with Biblical Implications. The Only Problem is, if they go to Bible storylines, are they burning out future storylines already?

3. Bones: Again, another show I didn't like at first. Booth and Bones had terrible on screen chemistry the first season, but since then the show has gelled. It has decided to take itself less seriously. There are more bits of humor. The way Booth and Bones interact now is great, and the perpetual torture of Sweets by the both of them is hilarious.

2. House. This one is a no brainer. Hugh Lauries Doctor House is one of the greatest characters ever written. We have had years and years of the boring, stereotypical Hospital show, this show came around and changed the entire Genre. Far Superior to grey's in everyway. Sure, the Lupus jokes get a little old, but nothing wrong with a running gag.

1. Terminator: I've ****ed this out as long as I could, but unfortunately, it looks like Judgment Day is drawing near for this series. Leave it to Fox to fuck up a great show by putting it on a shitty time slot on an even worse night during the Fall. This show did monster ratings in the spring with Prison Break as the fucking lead, oh yeah, and not competing against Monday Night Football. Now Fox has decided to put Terminator as the lead in to Prison Break, and with MNF as direct competition, ******ed to say the least. I'm so upset, because this year has been phenomenal. It's strong character driven, and it's a shame that this show is on the verge of cancellation while so many shit shows are on TV.

anyways, this is my current list. I would imagine with the pending cancellation of Terminator that everything will stay the same, because 24 is coming back, and 24 is the greatest thing ever.

1. Mock The Week
Easily the funniest show on British TV. The humour is off the cuff and Frankie Boyle is my idol and is so unpolitically incorrect it's unreal

2. Soccer AM
My weekend starts with this show as they are just mad and do the worst jokes ever.

3. The Cup
This comedy finished last week and it was hilarious with Terry McConnell being the typical dad who tries to have his son as the star of the team

4. Only Fools And Horses
The best comedy to ever come out of Britain and the gags never get old with Trigger's character being so dopey. How the actors kept a straight face when filming scenes involving Trigger is beyond me

5. Top Gear
This show is brilliant with all 3 presenters constantly mocking each other, especially James. My only beef about the show is that Jeremy Clarkson does too much and should let Hamster and Captain Slow do more power tests

1 24 I Love This Show The Action And Suspence Is Great. Each Season Outlast The Last One. It Starts Again In Janurary. I Cant Wait To See What This Season Brings.

2 Heroes This Show I Mssed The 1st Seasonbut Bought The Dvd. This Show I Diffrent. Thi Season3 Could Be The Best As We Finally Get To See The Sides People Will Choose. The War I Cant Wait For.

3 Chuck. This Show Is Slow At Parts But Is Funny And Gets You Hooked Fast. This Show Is About A Guy Who Works At A Local Buy More And Ends Up With All The Gov. Secrets. He Then Gets 2 Cia Agents Put With Him To Protect Him One Being A Cute Blonde Girl He Has A Crush On.

4 Dragon Ball Z This Show Never Ges Old I Have All 6 Dbz Seasons Re Released And Restored. The Gt And Db Sagas As Well. This Show Has Lots Of Action And Great Spts For Animation.

5 Married With Children This Show Is Really Old But Funny As Hell. The Bundys And A Whole Lot Of Problems. This Show Was Better Then Th Simpsons That I Like To.

6 Simpsons 7 Desperate Housewives

1. Family Guy
It's just a freakin hilarious show, nuff said.

2. Spongebob Squarepants
My older brother got me into it, it's another pretty funny cartoon.

3. The Soup
I can get up dated on pop-culture and get a good laugh.

4.George Lopez
With a few cliche's, catchprases and some politically in correct humor, it makes it a fun show

5.According to Jim
It's just typical average joe humor.

1. Heroes
F'n Amazing! thats all I have to say

2. Top Gear
This show is immense. I'm not a massive petrolhead and my car isn't up to much but this show is awesome - you have to love the stig

3. Wire In The Blood
I'm a big fan of good drama's and Robson Green is brilliant as the slightly obtuse criminal psycholigist

4. Jekyll
James Nesbitt as his best - some of the best TV acting ever in this drama, his portail of the shy Dr. Jackman and then the Crazy Mr. Hyde is immense

5. 8 out of 10 cats
I chose this over mock the week simply because I can't stand the ugly bald guy on mock the week - I don't find him funny at all

Hardly watch any TV now since I came to Uni, but my current top 5 would be...
1. Big Brother-fun, pointless, reality trash, but still very entertaining.

2. Mad Men-Replaces Lost as the only non-reality show I watch these days. A great, critically acclaimed show, that I have no idea why I like. Something about the characters and the era sparks my interest. Plus John Hamm is sex on legs, which never hurts.

3. Survivor-It's getting alittle or alot repetitive but I still enjoy it.

4. Hockey-I'm always up to watching a Canadiens game and tied with Hockey "American Idol", such an entertaining show.

5. Much Music Video on Trial-A bunch of comediens making fun of crappy music videos, priceless.

#1 The Office This is the most hillarious show ever, and it is going into it's sixth season. The American version is just as good as the Brittish one.

#2 The Simpsons like 19 or 20 years old and still kicking.

#3 Seinfeld The show about nothing, classic.

#4 Glenn Martin DDS It is only in it's first season, but I think this show has some potential.

#5 Parks and Recreation Going into it's second season, think it has some potential, and made by the people who made the office.

1. South Park
Family Guy has NOTHING ont this!

2. Prison Break
The twists, the turns, and a superb show!

3.Bottom
Only re-runs, but still fricking hilerious.

4. Only fools and Horses.
Read number 3.

5. Family guy.
I love this show, and yet it still has nothing on South Park!

This is a good one. I'm a sitcom junkie, but I can manage to narrow it down to five.

1) Seinfeld

All this show accomplished was prove that you don't need a set story to make a show successful. This show was about Seinfeld. That's it. NO real story. No background, except he was a comedian with some good friends. Yet it manages to go down as one of the greatest shows in television history and influenced some hip vocabulary for today's generation.

2) Cheers

Cheers was a show that I adored as I became older. I watched some old reruns on late night TV and fell in love with the show. I used to watch it during its original run on NBC during the 80's and early 90's, but I wasn't too fond of it as a kid. Now, I appreciate just how great this show was with Same, Norm, Cliff, Woody, Carla, Rebecca, and Frasier.

3) Family Ties

Alex Keaton will go down as one of the more unique characters in television history. Anything Michael J. Fox touches turns to gold, and his debut in mainstream acting was a start of a lot of great things. His family was a hipster family with free spirit values, while he was a hardcore conservative with morals and values. It was a great show that was helped by having a wonderful cast behind him.

4) Who's the Boss?

Who's the Boss was Tony Danza's most successful show. Although he's known mostly for Taxi, I know him as Tony Micelli, the world's most macho housekeeper. It was funny watching a tough talking guy have to deal with his teenage daughter, a beautiful, high class woman, and that woman's mom. He showed me that although all of his character's names were called "Tony", he can be funny, and manage to make a show relevant.

5) How I Met Your Mother

This is the best modern TV show right now. The story is great with a wonderful buildup and great characters. Barney Stinson is one of the best TV characters this decade. I said it. Better than Charlie Harper from Two and a Half Men, Earl from My Name is Earl, and others. The show's about the world's longest story of how a father met their kids mother, as told by Bob Saget, which is awesome in its own right. It's well written, with great characters, and plot lines within the main plot of the story. It'll go down as one of the better shows on TV in the past 15 years.

Honorable Mentions...

Alf
Everybody Loves Raymond
King of Queens
Two and a Half Men
Family Guy
Simpsons
Three's Company
Blossom
Punky Brewster
Empty Nest

1.) True Blood: I can't believe no one has mentioned this show, I never thought I could be tuned in to an action/drama show about vampires. The Sopranos was a huge favorite of mine too, until the last episode. Honorable mentions would be the early shows on HBO such as Dream On, and The Larry Sanders Show.

2.) Family Guy: I was on the Family Guy bandwagon since it started out, I got a lot of my friends to watch it when it came out of DVD. Every season is just more offensive and over the top hilarious. I am a huge Simpsons fan too, but it just hasn't been interesting over the last few seasons.

3.) Curb Your Enthusiasm: I really got into this show since I was a Seinfeld fan before. Larry David has the perfect life, but always finds some way to fuck it up.

4.) Sifl and Olly: One of the greatest shows ever to come on MTV for two seasons just to never be heard from again. This show with sock puppets was hilarious with them making rock videos and trying to get their foamy slow friend Chester a date. Beavis and Butthead & Singled Out were huge favorites of mine back in the day too.

5.) Weird Science: This was an old spin off show of the movie Weird Science on USA Network. It came on from 1994-1998. This show had the beautiful Vanessa Angel who showed up in Kingpin, only to vanish off the face of the planet afterward. Vanessa was my first love, along with Pam Anderson and Jenny McCarthy. The episodes were so goofy with Gary and Wyatt wishing to be basketball players, or rock stars. I don't why they didn't wish for Vanessa to have sex with them. It would be illegal but still nice. I would also have to add honorable mention to Duckman and The Critic. I'm so glad these shows finally came out on DVD.

Shows we hardly knew: I loved Wonder Showzen on MTV2, I don't how it was even on the air. Hardcore TV on HBO was pretty much the first adult variety show I ever saw. Twisted Puppet Theater on Showtime back in 1994 was hilarious. It was the first time Showtime had original adult programming on. I would pay top dollar to find any DVD or VHS tape that had Twisted Puppet Theater on it.

1. The Simpsons - I've been watching this show for many many years, since I was in kindergarten, my parents saw it as a cartoon so they figured it would be okay for me to watch it. Back then I was too young to get some of the jokes, but watching those same episodes nowadays, I find those jokes to be really funny.

It's the one show I will watch until the very end.

2. Family Guy - I just love the silly stupid humor this show has, I have an immature sense of humor so this show is great for me.

3. South Park - Another one with silly humor that I really enjoy, any episode I watch always gives me a good laugh.

4. House - Such a great show, House is such a jerk but at the same time he's my favorite character, love the stuff between him and Wilson.

5. Heroes - Just a great fun show, most people think the show has gone downhill, but I still enjoy it.

Honorable mentions:
The Office
Weeds
Psych
The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien
Saturday Night Live

The Simpsons: Nothing tops the TV show scene for me like the Simpsons does. They have been the lead in cartoon comedy for 20yrs and are still cracking the jokes like the best of them. I will never stop watching the Simpsons wether they are new or old episodes. The show is just.... Great. Couldn't fault it.

LOST: I have been addicted to this show since I bought season 1 on DVD. It's a show where you pretty much need to watch on DVD beacause missing an episode could kill it for you but watching it straight is a great experience. Every time a new box set is released me and a mate get high as an orbiting satellite and session the whole season straight, about 15-16hrs worth of quality drama/entertainment. Love this show.

Scrubs: One of the best sitcoms of the past 10yrs. I absolutley love it, the characters, the story, the imaginations and the set's are all truly awesome. I love the relationship between JD and Turk. Dr Cox is awesome, Kelso is essential and the supporting cast of Todd, Doug, Janitor, Ted etc are amazing and almost as essential as the main cast. I have never been dissapointed with an episode.

Friends: I have all the box sets and have sessioned them countless times. It's a great show to chuck on when you're hung over (trust me ;)) because you can just veg out and enjoy. The characters and plot's are world known and the show will go down in history as one of the best sitcoms to ever grace television.

The Mighty Boosh: I just love the randomness and imagination of this british show. If you have seen it you will know how good it can be. Their conversations are hilarious and the characters are very well done from the Shayman Council to the Hitchhiker, Old Gregg and the Crack Fox... It's all perfect. Very very funny show I definatley reccomend it if you haven't seen it.

Other's that didn't quite make the cut: Two and a Half Men, Prison Break, South Park, Futurama, Flight of the Conchords, Miami Ink, How I Met Your Mother, Big Bang Theory and Weeds.

Lost: My favorite show on TV right now. Everything about it is perfect, at least for me.

The Simpsons: A show that I was pretty much raised on, and it's always been hilarious.

Fringe: Crazy awesome sci-fi show, which is a genre I was never all that into, but this show just did it for me.

It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia: Absolutely hilarious show, with great characters and creative storylines.

Whitest Kids U Know: My sig is proof of my love for this show. Probably the funniest show I have ever seen. Season 3 was a bit lacking, but still had some memorable moments. Great series overall.

24- Perfect mix of action and drama

Seinfeld- A classic comedy

George Lopez- Great comedy with some funny mexican comedy

Fresh Prince of Bel Air- Every character is great in their role

King of Queens- Good but not great

Mystery Science Theater 3000(Mike Era)- uproariously funny (and under appreciated) show about a guy and his two robot companions mocking bad movies in space.

Arrested Development- another show where "uproariously funny" and "under appreciated" are good descriptors. This pseudo-documentary following the lives of the dysfunctional Bluth family was a true gem, but because Fox had now idea how to handle or promote it, it went the way of the dodo. Long live Gob and Tobias!

South Park- Still hitting it out of the park after all these years. There are episodes I like more and episodes I like less, but, for me, there are no "bad" episodes.

Flight of the Conchords- Dry humor, snappy songs, New Zealand accents, Murray- what's there not to love?

Colbert Report and Daily Show- Two shows, but to me two different heads from the same beast. That beast? Well-crafted media satirism.
