The NXT Thread Is Like Ring of Honor's Bay-Bay!

I know Ohno was regarded as the best indie wrestler off the last year based on the matches he had with the likes of Scurll and Jeff Cobb but he looks awful and that does go a very far way.

Apparently he's already lost a bit of weight.

I think the main reason people are surprised by Ohno's weight is because we remember how slim he was for years and years. His frame's really not that unusual in a world in which Bam Bam Bigelow existed, or one in which Kevin Owens and Samoa Joe are both recent NXT champions. I'm happy for him to wrestle shirtless. Let it all hang out, man.

One minor complaint: it was a key plot point in Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens' feud that you shouldn't walk into NXT and get a title shot right away, and that was reinforced when Samoa Joe was chasing a title shot for months, but here Ohno was having a title match in his first match back. I sure hope someone got fired for that blunder.

The main roster isn’t the only place where we’re getting ready for a major show. There are only two episodes of NXT left before Takeover: Orlando and that means we need to hammer out the rest of the card. While the three title matches are set, you need a lot more than that to make a full show. Let’s get to it.

They Needed This

So after some research I found it is INDEED a different ve ue than the last time they taped at UCF, and is indeed what I thought was the ideal arena size at just over 2k.

Unfortunately it seemed as if the taping occured on free sleeping-medicine night, as these tapings have featured easily the most docile NXT crowds I've ever heard

By the by, WWE has finally put classic (i.e. 2012) NXT up on the network. I will be publishing a list of the best Sami Zayn matches shortly, including his absolute belter with the late, great Jack Swagger. Oh, and then there's the time that Bo Dallas started yelling at the crowd and telling them to leave.

Aw, so good.

Edit: NXT's inaugural match: Bo Dallas vs. Rick Viktor. Jim Ross describes Bo as "young, single and charismatic." What a time to be alive.

Edit: Classic Ascension, featuring TNA star Bram.

Everybody should watch this. It's educational.

Ascension's original entrance featuring Bram's weird hand light, Konnor's wacky contacts and the feral screaming will never cease to be my shit.

Also they both had great jackets.

Kassius Ohno's last two matches are so much better than anything he had done in NXT previously that didn't involve William Regal.

It’s time for the big one again as NXT gets to run a major show from its home city. Wrestlemania is in Orlando this year and that means we get a special Takeover right down the road from Full Sail University. The main event is Bobby Roode vs. Shinsuke Nakamura II for the NXT Title in what might be Nakamura’s farewell. Let’s get to it.

Homecoming

I bet the new belt won't even need to come with a special cloth to clean off the absolute fuckton of fingerprints it attracts.

It's OK, Sam. Breathe.

The new women's belt is an improvement. I'm fine with never seeing glitter or sparkles on a women's title again. I'd have been fine with it being different to the men's but, just like with the main roster belts, I like the sentiment behind it.

The new tag titles are so similar to the old ones that I don't know why they bothered. One assumes the new ones are more in keeping with the new men's and women's titles.

This is the FINAL show from Wrestlemania week as this week’s episode consists of the dark matches from before Takeover: Orlando. You can expect a lot of recaps and quick comments from most of the people on Saturday’s show, meaning this is kind of a breather before we get going again. Let’s get to it.
