The NXT Thread Is Like Ring of Honor's Bay-Bay!

I could potentially see the signing of the likes of say Hero, Strong and Aries as an attempt to build a dependable structure to keep NXT stable in the long run; to treat it a bit more as a brand on its own rather than developmental.

Do Strong and Hero really look like anything that might eventually get to the main roster? Perhaps only in tag teams.

Or WWE's new style of trying to sign anyone with any buzz. Kenny Omega in 3... 2...

There's that, too. Though I hope Omega never signs. I don't have an opinion of him one way or the other, but there's some romanticism to the idea of the Guy (capital G) who never signed with the E. Sting signed. AJ signed. Kenny might be the only Guy who comes close, other than perhaps some NJPW names.

That's not a flattering picture. I'm struggling to comprehend his return beyond hype.

Because there's a lot more to a wrestler than physique.

Hero is a very good promo; as experienced and seasoned as they come; and is arguably one of the top handful of in-ring talents anywhere on earth. He's an amazing guy to have around your developmental workers because of the unbelievable amount they could learn from him. He also had very intriguing and well-worked programs during his first stint as Ohno.

WWE made a mistake ever letting him go. It seems they have also come to that realization.

I'm trying to recall what intruiging programs Ohno had during his first run. I'm trying to recall what programs he had. There was that match with Regal, and the time Luke Harper clotheslined him out of his shoes...

I just watched his match with Okada and my opinion of him is that he's superhuman. The idea that WWE would allow him to do half the shit I just saw, however, is pretty unrealistic. Top rope dragon suplex? It ain't gonna happen.

Maybe I overappreciated the programs at the time or am remembering them in an elevated light due to my shameless status as a Hero Mark; but I recall the Ohno/Steamboat feud as well as subsequent Ohno/Regal interactions as being very good. I thought he did a great job of carrying Richie and helping bring him along, and everything about Ohno versus Regal was nearly perfectly executed and highly engaging television.

He was involved in a pretty great impromptu tag match that was him & Cesaro vs. Punk & Rollins.

He does need to do something about his ring gear though, the fat Jesus in a speedo look really isn't working for him.

^^ all of this.

I just don't see what's particularly interesting about the guy to be honest. He's got less to him than Aries and Young, only has size & possibly age over those two. Compared to some of the guys who NXT have had, I don't see him breaking out to the main roster, perhaps not even the main event level of NXT.

The one thing that may help him is the shift in style within NXT as it has a lot of striking.

Aries is an argument I can see, but EY?

Other than the versatility to play a wide range a characters(something that may not even come into play in his WWE career due to having landed a solid gimmick from the start) what does Young possibly have on Hero? Hero can hang with Young on the mic, and is in a different class than Young in the ring.

Tommy End debuted at an NXT live event last night.

His new name was revealed as Aleister Black...

The name Aleister is clearly a play on Aleister Crowley- and the name seems to fit End, who is a satanist in his daily life, perfectly. Digging the new name if they were insistent on switching up his moniker.

Yeah, but it was a misspelling. Likely because it was initially reported on Twitter by someone at the event who only heard the name announced by the ring announcer, but didn't see the name written out.

The tweet accompanying my last post was tweeted out by End's official account after the match, providing the true spelling, which makes more sense as "Aleister Black" aligns perfectly to End's satanism and its more than probable that End submitted it himself and it was accepted; as many other wrestlers have been given the opportunity to do over recent years when the company has chosen to change their ring name.

We’re back to Full Sail and that means it’s time to hit the gas on the road towards San Antonio. The NXT Title match is already set up but now it’s time to set up the Tag Team Title match. We know that the Authors of Pain are waiting on the champions but the question is who will be defending against them. That’s what we’ll find out tonight as the Revival gets their rematch against DIY. Let’s get to it.

I'm actually really digging the transition by Almas back toward his Los Ingobernables character. Its been executed very well so far.

The Revival embracing was maybe an even better finish than them holding hands. Now all I need is a t-shirt of theirs that doesn't imply I like fisting.

Or do I?

It takes an impressive company to make a big story out of a ticket to a show but that’s what NXT has managed to do. Last week Bobby Roode sent NXT Champion Shinsuke Nakamura his ticket from Takeover: Dallas. It makes for a very interesting way to set up a story and that’s we’re getting as we head towards San Antonio. Let’s get to it.

We’re on the road to Wrestlemania, which means we’re heading back to Orlando on the way to….well Orlando actually, but at least we should have some good action on the way there. The big story at the moment is Bobby Roode becoming the new NXT Champion by defeating Shinsuke Nakamura in a very solid match. Let’s get to it.

What will inevitably be one of the less discussed, but not one of the less important, parts of NXT's legacy - Corey Graves' transformation from a guy with great worked punches into the best professional wrestling commentator in the world:

The irony being the one thing that was said on commentary about Corey Graves, week after week, was "This guy could never get a desk job."

Tonight is all about Bobby Roode and his GLORIOUS NXT Championship celebration. In other words it’s probably time to find out who we’re going to be seeing as Roode’s first challenger, likely at Takeover: Orlando. I’m really not sure who that’s going to be as Shinsuke Nakamura is still down with a knee injury. Let’s get to it.
