We’re finally back to normal as NXT returns home. We’re also just over a month away from Takeover: Chicago, meaning things need to get set up in a hurry. The big story tonight is the return of Drew McIntyre, who hasn’t been in WWE for several years and has done a lot of growing up in that time. Let’s get to it.

Feel the Power of the New Guys

I'm conflicted.

I have zero desire to see them mess with the NXT formula, but at the same time, a Chicago takeover is sooooooooooooooo overdue its disgusting.

Because NXT schedule works so TIME TO SCREW IT UP!
Takeover: The End was June 8th last year. This year the first post-Mania Takeover is 3 weeks earlier.

Last year we had 4 weeks of NXT TV from Axxess. It was 4 weeks worth of pointless wrestling with minimal at best story advancement. Using that math the schedule is pretty much on par for last year. In an ideal world they could have held the Takeover June 1 maybe to lessen the length between next Takeover and Takeover Brooklyn III, but Takeover has outgrown Full Sail, and piggybacking off of Main Roster shows is the best way to minimize expenses while getting an arena-sized crowd.

I wouldn't exactly call the Axxess tapings pointless. Also they need time to build up a lot of their new roster. It's not exactly the most defined at the moment.

It's "I'm going to start a petition" bad. Inferior by magnitudes. I'm UPSET.

Watch McIntyre become WWE Champion AFTER Scotland stops being part of the United Kingdom.

And, erm, how long has Nakamura been hiding the fact that he speaks fluent fucking English?

I suspect Drew vs Oney was far more physical and brutal than a grudge match with ominous gimmick for the WWE championship will end up being.

This thought had not occurred to me...

I don't think it's ever been hidden. The first video they posted of him signing has him speaking pretty much perfect English.

We’re back to Full Sail with a major match to wrap up someone’s time in NXT. This week we have Tye Dillinger’s NXT farewell as he steps inside a steel cage with Eric Young. Dillinger has already moved up to the main roster so it’s his last chance to get a major win in NXT. Let’s get to it.

The British are here tonight as the big featured match will see WWE UK Champion Tyler Bate defending against Jack Gallagher. I like the idea of throwing those guys out there for some filler as it keeps the regular roster fresh and gives us a bit of a treat. That being said, I could go for a bit of a better story than “You’re British, here’s a title shot.” Let’s get to it.

The (Latest) British Invasion

Tyler Bate's entrance theme is bloody awful. It's like techno jazz mixed with drab toned elevator music. Anyone know if he uses that theme everywhere or just in WWE?

Really enjoying the Cross/Riot feud so far, this is one case where I think some kind of gimmick match would actually be justified instead of hey, here's the first ever women's hardcore match.

Also Tommy End is still cool as shit.

Oh and that video package for Roddy, that was awesome. For a guy who's always been known for his lack of personality, they did one hell of a job compensating for it with that package.

Did Tyler Bate have Sledgehammer by Peter Gabriel in the indies? The song really sounds like it's supposed to be a clone of that.

Really enjoyed the main event. Proper old school British style wrestling.

Ruby Riot was created when Gonzo from the Muppets blew his load on a Hot Topic catalog during a lightning storm. There is no other logical explanation.

Other than that realization & being sad Pete Dunne failed to hop the guardrail and thrash Tyler, it was a good show once again.

Another part of NXT that rocks - they are still allowed to have theme songs for their PPVs that appeal to people other than girls in 8th grade
