The Mosh Pit: The Official Metal Thread

How many concerts have any of you fellas been too; and who is the band live you have seen?

Been to one called Edgefest here in Arkansas. They had Bullet For My Valentine, Lacuna Coil, Rob Zombie, Godsmack, 5FDP and Shaman's Harvest. Standard rock stuff but it was cool

Any Dethklok/Metalacolypse fans?

I've never gone to any festivals but plenty of gigs.

Oh hell yes. Probably the only proper death metal band I like haha

Sweet, I have never seen Bullet live. I've heard they put on a great show. Godsmack kicks ass live and same with Five Finger. Never heard of the last band.

My best friend's mother's boyfriend used to play Matt Morgan's TNA theme Sleeping Giant. They got backstage tickets to a PPV in Orlando. He did have a good theme, and the riff on the guitar was plenty heavy.

Not to much on the "metal" side, but the new Seether release is really good. New Chevelle is kick ass as well.

Slipknot are in a very bad place at the moment with Paul Gray dead and Joey Jordison gone. The future doesn't look bright for them.

Sounds bright.

The new track is great. Total throwback to the self-titled sound.

That's not me saying they wont recover. Metallica recovered from losing Cliff Burton, and there are other examples that don't immediately spring to mind. But I don't think Slipknot will be able to recapture the same amount of popularity that they had a few years ago, especially with the transitional period metal seems to be going into at the moment. Even if they do recover, they'll be damaged from this a fair amount.

They won't be damaged, not at all. If anything, they'll gain more fans. People are longing for this album like a new fucking Tool album.

Maynard is a cock tease, but its always worth the wait. Tool & APC both have albums in the works.

Now if we can just get System of a Down back to where they were with the first two albums, then I will be ok. Things took a strange turn after that.

I only recently got Toxcity. Before that I just had a few songs. What strange turns are you on about because BYOB and Kill Rock N Roll sound very SOAD

The general feel of their last few albums just was meh to me as opposed to the first 2 where I enjoyed the entire disc. Like 'Steal this album' for instance. It just felt off & at times a bit like a throwaway jam session. Unimpressed. Now 'Mezmerize' was much better, but then 'Hypnotize' fell flat with me.

To be fair I hear everyone talk about Toxcity and the first album. Nobody talks about Steal This Album (which I hear was just demos anyway) and Mesmerise and Hypnotise people seem to have mixed feelings about. I guess I'll have to give them thorough listens.

STA! was mostly leftovers from the Toxicity sessions. There was a reason they failed to make the cut.

Oh and for the Metalocalypse fans

Nu Metal is awesome!

Steal this Album is awesome and one of the best SOAD albums. The last two albums were to soft and not like their first releases. I hope they come together one day and make a new kick ass album.

Serj has been the one holding it up. Something about not having time to dedicate to the creative process. Last I heard, the other guys were thinking about waiting a bit & possibly deciding on replacing him in order to keep the band going if he wasnt jumping on board.

Really mixed feelings about that. On one hand, I understand if they want to write an album and keep the band alive. On the other, Serj's vocals are a big part of the band. Hard to imagine an SOAD album without him at the mic.

Obligatory troll post

You say troll post, I say best metal band ever! Metal has never been so kawaii (as well as fun and catchy)!

Speaking of metal bands from Japan, you have to go with (one of) the best:

I know. I'm still trying to fully understand the hate towards it. I can kind of understand the hate for glam metal (partying to excess, materialism, treating women like objects etc) But I still don't fully get the hate for nu-metal.

Yeah Serj is an intricate part of System Of A Down. It would very hard to replace him. Unless Daron does all the vocals and even then..

I don't hate nu metal, it's just that the quality of bands are often fairly low in comparison to other metal sub-genres. There's some nu metal songs that I really like though.

Have my phone on random & been listening to some old tunes this morning. Forgot how much I liked Velvet Revolver. Up now is Glassjaw, one of my favorite relatively unknown bands. Anyone else know who they are?

Also, somewhat off topic because they are not so much metal as they are hard rock, but Days of the New are a great band I had forgot about until recently. Good jams right there.

Yes, former Guns N Roses and Scott Weiland from STP. They had the song on the Hulk sound track. Not to bad but weren't to great.

For quality of Nu Metal bands, Korn, Spineshank, I'll Nino, just to name a few are awesome. The hate is due to it not being metal and influencing more rap techno into the sound.

I actually blame people like Fred Durst for their terrible lyrics. There's some great musicianship in nu metal that is under appreciated.

Velvet Revolver was good and I still love Slither. It's a shame that Weiland left/was fired and they just haven't bothered to find a replacement.

I actually agree on the rap and electronic elements. Metal fans seem to hate it when bands are influenced by other genres.

I'd also add Linkin Park, Deftones and Limp Bizkit as good nu-metal bands. Say what you want about Fred Durst but he's a decent vocalist at least and the the other members (especially Wes Borland) are great musicians
