The Mickie James Interview

Viola Moonlight

I'm Literally Just Here for WZCW
On the main site of WrestleZone recently Mickie James had an interview with MSN.com about the nature of her turning heel again for the company. It seems that Mickie is more than willing to go for the change if the business needs her to do so. She also mentioned she is a perfectionist & would pull off the character down to the smallest detail despite the fact she is a massive crowd favourite.

My question here is if a Mickie James heel turn is a good thing or a bad thing for the business? This does not concern any particular feud or storyline, but just the general question of whether the heel Mickie James would benefit the business in any way.

For me, the crowd is too much in love with the character of Mickie James to allow her to become a heel. She is the only diva that I know of on the whole WWE diva roster that can garner a reaction throughout the whole time she is in the arena. However, with the direction of her character as a face & the potential she has in the area of charsima... a heel turn into what she described as the nasty villianous persona would do wonders for rekindling an interest in the division as MJ has proven in the past with her Psychotic phase.

Thoughts?

I read that interview, was very tempted to email the people who did it, and ask for her msn. lols.

Seriously though, the thing is, if Mickie where to turn heel, people would cheer for her, regardless; she's just that over with the crowd. Look at her when she was a heel in 2006, people cheered for her then too, Mickie just has his lovable charismatic vibe to her; divas do not draw like men do, so would it do bad from a business point of view? Not really. Michelle and Maryse are heels, yet they still go out and do interviews, and sound very face-like. But look at it, the division doesn't garner interest from the crowd anyway, does it? They don't care. Divas matches are labelled as bathroom breaks, maybe a heel turn from Miss James, will capture peoples attention, which may actually be good for the 'E.

In addition, Mickie isn't used correctly, she has this enormous amount of charisma, but it can't be put anywhere because her face character is so generic, it's smiles, bouncy bounce, jump onto the ring post, ta-da, begin match, end match. Put the charisma she has to good use, she can use it alot more efficiently as a heel. She's been the top face for over three years, and sure she can carry on being the top face, but we need something new, something fresh - i'm not saying Mickie is doing a bad job, she's done a wonderful job at carrying the division, but mixing it up is different, and people are always eager to see different.

We have to remember to be careful what we wish for. If Mickie does turn heel, do not expect the crazy psycho girl who wears skirts and kidnaps escorts to return; she'll be a similar heel to McCool - jealous, bitchy, angry. On the other hand, her moveset will change, and that'll stop the moaning about her being repetative, which would be a plus. I'd love to see Mickie turn heel, more-so that anybody here, because i'm all for giving divas more character, the only problem is the fact that heel divas these days, job more than they win, and Mickie James jobbing to Kelly Kelly isn't my cup-of-tea. It could benefit the business, simply because you could put the other face divas over through a Mickie James heel turn.

The only major problem with turning her heel is this: There is no other women in the company that is over enough with the crowd to take her place. Kelly gets inconsistant pops, and Gail, erm, does she even get a reaction? Melina is on Smackdown, and even her reactions are canned 75% of the time. Build somebody up, prior the heel turn, and then the next face can be put over fully by feuding with Micks once the heel turn is complete. In all, i'm for it, Mickie is for it, it's interesting, and any interest, is good interest.

I agree 100% with this post to the smallest details. Everything you said Rebecca here is basically what I was aiming to say but in a lot more detail. However the last quote I am having trouble with understanding.

Kelly, Melina & Gail are the three mainstay face characters that could quite possibly take over the major face role however they aren't over in the crowd in order to do so & cannot be fully trusted to lead the face teams. The criteria for someone too take Mickie James' place as lead face must be over with the crowd somewhat & be a very good wrestler. I have one suggestion to solve this problem:

Beth Phoenix: She is a credible wrestler in her own right who can carry any match she is put in. She has the ability to gain attention from the fans due to her power & can spark the crowd for some activity to happen. During some of her feuds as champion, the crowd seemed to be cheering for Beth instead of the other opponents such as Melina & has a following with the crowd, albeit small. With the comedic role in being apart of the team Glamarella that seemingly buried her, the fact that she isn't doing that much & how she has the appearance of a face wrestlers as seen in the Mayweather 6-Diva Tag Match... why not switch roles to become face if Mickie James were to become a heel?

Remember the first time Beth debuted? She attacked Mickie James & began a feud with her. However, she got injured. Once she came back as the heel, she still went after Mickie James. So, since MJ & Beth have been established as Arch Enemies, why not switch the roles to compliment their history & attempt to re-perform the original heel James vs. face Beth angle again?

I think a face turn for Beth would be great actually. Gail and Kelly could be like her bitches, you know, they could form a stable; wait face turn, my bad, lol. But seriously, I think Beth could get very other with the crowd, whilst i'm personally not a fan of her, she's known to get pops for the some of the moves she whips out. She's been pushed as this super women for the last couple of years, dominating matches, and it's gotton some what stale. Her pushes are always repetative, and she always gets strong booking, which doesn't really have a pay off.

I think if she took Gail and Kelly under her wing as well, she could rub off some of the crowd reactions from her to them too. Do you think the crowd could really care about her the way they do Mickie though? Beth is not that charismatic in comparison to Mickie, she can't sell like Mickie, and her moveset is boring for the most part, unless she's doing something big; and she can't be doing 'big' things all the time. Another problem with this, is that we might see Beth/Mickie for the 5646384 time. On the other hand, if we did see Mickie/Beth again, we'd get a little bit of our beloved crazy Micks back. They still have unfinished business from all those years ago, we never actually found out what Mickie did to Beth prior coming to the 'E.

However, we have had a 'face' Beth being pulled off before, even if it was just a tease. Remember before Surivor Series? She attacked Victoria, and she got huge pops for that, the crowd ate Beth up because even though she was a heel, she was on the side of 'greater good'. Oh the wonders of heel turns.

If Mickie James turns heel, 4 people will care, and they are all going to reply to this thread. I'm sorry, I don't recognize Divas as faces or heels due to the weak storylines and subpar matches. Divas are simply around because the WWE still feels that men are still interested in watching these OK "athletes" perform. Most men are interested in seeing them in a bikini or less, not in what they do in the ring. There have been very few matches that I personally have cared about in the history of the Divas division, and they all happened 10+ years ago.

I know a few posters care about the Divas and that is your preference. Frankly, all the Diva supporters are not buying PPVs to see the Divas wrestle. I wish one of you would just admit that. The Divas division is so dead they couldn't even get a match on Summerslam. If there is one at Breaking Point, it will be a disaster. The only Divas match that could actually make sense would be McCool vs Natalya, because they each have a submission move. A heel turn by any Diva is minor news at best.

mickie as a heel would be grea! I dont know how many times they have changer faces who had the same kind of reaction from the crowd. but i doubt that it will happen wwe is now geared for kids and mickie james is a good kinda hero type for kids.

I personally prefer Mickie's Mic work as a heel opposed to a face whether it be her initial run in WWE or back in TNA and OVW. With that said, the question remains, who would take over as top face for the company? Had this question been asked 6 months ago I would say Gail Kim however since she returned to WWE, her run has been less then stellar and she's simply not over. In my opinion that leaves Kelly Kelly or Beth Phoenix. My concern with Kelly Kelly is that she lacks in-ring charisma and most of her matches come across like cookie cutter replicas. I liked Beth's "mini face tease" back during the santino stint but don't think she would be a good top face, she just looks too dominant and you want the dominant looking ones to be the heel monsters. With that said, while I would love to see a Mickie heel turn I just don't see it being good for the divas division right now.

I think Mickie and Trished proved with the right storyline a character and a match can go over very well...

I love Mickie, much like I love Melina, The problem is whenever a diva gets cheered they turn her face and kill her character, Vince seems to think that a character isn't marketable unless their a "face".

Diva's need to be on the show, Seriously! They just use them all wrong...I think the womens division would have more purpose if all of the women had some other purpose, Like when Melina was a manager, Lita was with the Hardys...They just seemed to take away there personalities and their "backstory". Its no different than the guys who don't get over because they honestly don't have a story or character
