Survivor Series 2012 LD

Great ending.

Now when will WWE explain why Rock gets a shot at the title at the 2nd biggest PPV when he's a part-part-timer?

Because he is The Rock, its a big PPV that kicks off WM season and there is the fact that when his 'part time' name is on the card- he sells tickets. Throw in a title match with one of the most hated heels in the business today and you have a big match with big stars that will draw & garner much anticipation.

Do you bitch about Taker\HHH\Austin\HBK being part time and getting high profile matches or appearances? Why does Vince do this? To put asses in seats and sell tickets. If you havent noticed there is a certain 'star quality' lacking on the WWE roster at the moment. Very few guys that have it, and a hell of a lot of guys that arent there yet. Makes perfect sense to me to have a guy like Rock face a guy like Punk with the belt on the line.

If you dont get that then you dont seem to understand how things work. Whats more entertaining? A guy who we see every week that does nothing worthwhile get a shot at the strap or one of the biggest stars ever? Guys like Ryder, Gabriel and Sin Cara are full time guys, but no one would give two shits if they got a title shot. Why? Because no one wants to see them in a ME and people wont buy tickets for it. Rock vs Punk? That is what people will pay money for. You know it will be a good match and the promo time leading up to it is sure to be fantastic.

I love the front page. They say NXT Talents make long awaited debuted, but the funny thing for me was I wasn't waiting for any of their debuts.

In my scenario, he wouldn't have. He would have won the title and lost it this month. This accomplishes two things. Number 1, it would have allowed Ryback to beat Punk and show that he's awesome. Number two, now that Ryback is champion and over, Punk can snivel his way back to being champion. This does more for Punk than retaining twice in ******ed circumstances. It's gotten to the point where Punk is an afterthought in all of his matches. How is that good for a champion? Last year, people went NUTS when he won. This year? People don't even seem to care (save for internet fans who can't recnognize poor character development if it slaps them in the face).

And on top of that, we just had Cena laying there like Sting in 1997 at Starrcade. It just comes off looking stupid and that's what I got out of it. I'm fine with the run in and those guys debuting or whatever, but the actual pin was contrived and awful.

I think people need to realize that the whole 365 days storyline was much more interesting and a better selling point for WWE's 2nd/3rd biggest PPV than Ryback staying undefeated on a throwaway PPV. The loss hasn't affected nearly as much as people thought it would. What would the point of Ryback winning the belt just to lose it three weeks later? This hopefully gives him a way out of the title picture and distracts him till after WM because he's not holding the belt till after that.

Nope. Rock vs whoever is going to sell PPVs regardless of who's champ or how long they've held the title. Smarks like to think otherwise, but Punk's long reign means nothing. In terms of star power and drawing power.

A strong bald guy vs 3 "Outsiders"..

OMG!! WWE is ripping off WCW!!!

That was sarcasm :icon_neutral:

That's just it though, it's not interesting. Also, I know Rock is awesome, but it's likely he will beat Punk. Who does that help? It tells us that a part timer is better than our champion and the long reign didn't put anybody over. At 10 or 11 months, Ryback could have been put over to look AMAZING and that would have been a lot more beneficial long term. B

Back on point, it's clearly not interesting. TV has been very bad and ratings are abyssmal. Clearly there is not more interest in this story of "how many days Punk has the title". In this day and age, there's comes a point where people just get bored, especially when we know the reign will keep going despite falling face first into gold with Ryback. We knew it was going to the rumble and thus, none of this means anything and it makes TV and PPV uninteresting.

Plus, CM Punk is no longer CM Punk and that just sucks for all of us.

Good point, that's how big of draw Rock is. But let's say we want to keep continuity and at least have an entertaining rivalry: Punk/Rock > Rock/Ryback.

It will somewhat. When Punk has been avoiding dropping the belt to Cena all this time & to Ryback, fans will pay to see Punk try to avoid the guy who beat Cena in last years Wrestlemania main event.

The real problem is that WWE should have never announced Rock is getting the title shot at RR, it's made every single WWE title match after that pretty irrelevant because you are right it's obvious Rock is winning the gold. But to be honest ratings and angles always suck during this time of the year. Things usually kick into gear around January. Cm Punk is no longer my sole reason of watching WWE, so I could honestly care less if he's not the badass people thought he was a year ago.

No. Fans will pay to see Rock kick his ass. But here's the thing: They'll pay to see Rock kick anybody's ass with at least a moderately competent build. Punk's lengthy title reign is just something to keep him appeased and give the smarks something to diddle themselves about. Nothing more.

I like Punk as much as anyone, but let's not overdo it. He's peaked. He peaked a while ago. His reign continuing isn't going to make him a bigger star. Beating Rock won't make him a bigger star. He is where he is, and that's it. No intrigue is added to the product by his continued dominance.

Ratings have been the lowest they've been in 15 years. Yes, ratings dip a little during football season, but this is unheard of. Some of that has to go towards creative and not giving people a reason to watch. The Punk story isn't compelling and it doesn't matter. Title reign lengths don't matter. They never have and they never will. That's why you are better off making a star out of the thing.

But yeah, telling people a match way in advance is dumb as nothing matters in the middle. That's definitely a big part of the problem.

I still think, despite the IWC ejaculation, that beating up Ryback should have been the job of Brock Lesnar. I'm still hoping for that as a Mania match.

I disagree. I think Punk's reign length is great, and adds to his greatness.

I, for one, am not expecting Rock to win at RR, or even for Punk to hold the strap until then. Anything can happen. I expect twists, turns, and #fuckery. If it gets predictable, I will stop watching.

Fuck Lesnar. So long as creative gives us those new stars you asked for, I'm good.

Don't worry they're saving this for the Royal Rumble. Seeing as there is no way to have Ryback lose anymore without making him look like he's been screwed.
