SummerSlam Live Discussion

So let me get this straight.

People are complaining because a guy that has a lot of money paid off a guy that is famous for constantly saying "it's all about the money" to help him set up a champion for a match where he can cash in at the most opportune time? I know I say there are a lot of illogical things in wrestling, but this makes some of the most sense I can think of in years. Why are there complaints again?

I agree 100% with this.

I also believe there's a good chance ADR didn't even have to use his own money. I think Vince may be bank-rolling this one. If VKM really is planning on staying off of TV for a while, it'll be Laurinaitis working on VKM's behalf. Or him trying to prove his worth to VKM.

Or hell...maybe this was all Steph's doing??

This is what makes wrestling so much fun!! Nobody knows!

I'm gonna pull a Sam here and say that I though about Del Rio cashing in but I neglected to tell anyone on the forum that it's what I was thinking. I told my roommate though, I swear.

Uhhhh......I think I did? lulz. Im still so numb and shocked. Im gonna say yea, since now that I think of it, there wouldnt have been a better way to continue the story, and was downright shocking, the epic build for Punk and Cena made everyone totally forget Del Rio, which is how MITB should always be booked

What? Nobody forgot about Del Rio, people have been predicting and saying all week long that he was going to walk out of this show with the title by cashing in his MITB contract.

Still not sure about how I feel on Del Rio. He's good, but I'm not sure he's really quite ready for the WWE title yet. Oh well, he should have a great feud with Rey into the fall I'm guessing as that will probably wind up being the big money match they put out on their first tour of Mexico this fall.

You screwed Samoa Joe at Bound For Glory, Nash. Now you've come back to piss me off once more, eh? Fine. Let the game begin again, old friend. Mark my words - you will not triumph.
Get out of my head.

Leading up to the match I thought there was a chance Del Rio would cash in but I'm not going to lie, after the finish of the match and then Kevin Nash attacking Punk, Del Rio and the briefcase had completely slipped my mind and caught me a little off guard.

I mean during the match.

I was like "awesome awesome awesome who is gonna win who is gonna win"

"ohhh fuck that finish"

"Kev Nash? The Fuck?!?!"

OH SHIT DEL RIO OH YEA!!!

Just read the results, and my initial reaction is "I guess I gotta watch Raw now".
Kevin Nash, huh?

That's a legit surprise, and I suppose this is a convoluted, BUT effective way to transition the Punk/Cena angle from a possible hotshot to something long-term.
The WWE were in somewhat of a dilemma (by their own standards of course), because you don't want Punk to lose cleanly and forsake all of his momentum.

But the the WWE has an annoying aversion to having Cena lose cleanly--despite how little it would hurt him in the grand scheme of things.
Having it happen twice on ppv was unlikely to say the least.
Having HHH involved indicted such an obvious screwjob, twisting his count with Cena's foot on the rope leaves the option of it not being a mistake, but it allows Punk to pin Cena with it seeming like a significant loss.

I don't know how I feel about ADR being champion right now, but I'll give him this.
In a company filled with boring, cookie cutter dudes who flounder in the midcard, at least Del Rio looks like someone who could be a star, can cut a promo, and isn't terrible in the ring.
Basically, he's no less credible as a champion right now than Sheamus or The Miz were when they won for the first time.

My issue is with him being champ right now; mainly because I can sense him easily getting lost in the shuffle and just being a placeholder chickenshit heel who fades back into the midcard after he loses the title.
I don't know if he's over enough to stand out in a feud like this, but I guess time will tell. Heard he didn't get much of a reaction when he won, so they've got to work on getting people to card about him more in this feud or he's going to be kicked out of it quick.

At least they've got a decent cliffhanger with Nash's involvement and Punk didn't "get BERRIED!" with a clean loss to Cena.

Really pissed I had to work tonight, sounded like two outstanding main events. Don't really love Del Rio as champ yet though, see alot of potential just not sure he's main event ready.

Anyway, how was the undercard?

I just don't feel like Del Rio is worthy...particularly after the feud that Punk and Cena have been having. Del Rio is clearly the piece that does not fit.

I ordered the replay without knowing what happened on the show and I really liked the show a lot. Everything seemed to work and I thought it was a very fun show. I was kind of angry at first about the ending, but the more I think about it, the more I like it. I'm really looking forward to seeing how everything plays out.

Very good show from top to bottom and it's easily recommended. Christian and Orton was Match of the Night.

Anyone with a brain realized that ADR or Mysterio would be champion before the WWE goes on it's tour of Mexico in the fall.

Punk and Cena "don't need the title" at this point. Cena will do whatever, maybe even feud with Del Rio, but Punk is obviously getting set up to feud with not only Triple H, but the Kliq? Seriously think about that for a second before people get to angry with Punk not being the champ.

He beat Cena again. Punk doesn't need to be a champion if he's going to be in probably the biggest storyline of the WWE leading up to Wrestlemania season where Rock and Cena will take it from there. Punk is being given a huge opportunity. The NFL is starting back up, and the WWE is giving Punk the ball and saying, "you want to be the man, well this is it."
