Cut 45 minutes out of The Lone Ranger and you've got yourself quite the film.

It is time once again for me to go manufacture freedoms for some, and end it for others, in a land far away.

Sam, I know now why you cry. It is something I could never do.

Jake, best of luck with the children, animals and Uni.

The first fifteen minutes of Kick-Ass 2, wherein it contorts itself ludicrously to avoid the consequences of the previous film's ending, are pitiful. I genuinely wanted to leave. However, once it's done moving the pieces into place (without good reason) it's actually quite fun to watch unfold. Still way too many plot threads, way too many flat lines, way too juvenile and way too fast a pace but, unlike the first, it has a consistent tone. The original Kick-Ass didn't so much marry genres as grab their heads and make them awkwardly kiss; this is its own animal all the way through.

Still not as good as Super though, and Super isn't even that good.

I think I liked only God Forgives. I liked the violence, the lovely music and Kristin Scott Thomas. I wasn't a massive fan of everybody walking very slowly.

Dat fight scene.

I forgot to mention Jim Carrey in Kick-Ass 2, taking over Nicolas Cage's role as comfortably the best thing in the film that there's not nearly enough of.

I liked Kick Ass 2, ridiculously violent. I was watching it with the millionaire girl though, so it gave it an air of sophistication.

Could've maybe worked a Platform 9 & 3/4 joke in there.

In Elysium, Mexicans want to illegally enter somewhere to take advantage of their superior medical services. No idea what the real life parallels of that could be - I'll have to wait for xfear's thesis on it. Still lots of people exploding like water balloons though, so that's fun.

If you want to talk about bad shaky cam, Elysium takes the cake. There was one fight scene towards the end of the movie that I couldn't make right or left of.

And I saw it sober.

I've really wanted to try and get into some old shows from like the 70's and 80's lately, anyone want to suggest some that would be good to watch that I likely haven't heard of?

I know, NorCal. I know. I'm looking forward to NXT's biggest ever signing too.

I feel like people are selling Aj Styles short. He isnt an ROH guy, he has headlined major worldwide PPV and tours. The national audience is going to know who AJ Styles is. I think the only time he will spend in NXT is to give guys a rub, help teach them a bit, and get used to working in a different enviornment / bookers. Two months so they can show vingettes of his debut.

Fruitvale Station: an emotional movie that leaves you feeling like you just got kicked in the balls by Gandhi. Why Gandhi? Because if Gandhi kicks you in the balls, you know that you're a piece of shit, and probably pretty racist.

Having watched The World's End for a second time, now seems a fitting time to ignore JGlass and perform my annual (or possibly bi-annual) list retrofitting. Movies will plummet or ascend, stars will fall off like gangrenous limbs or sprout out like, I dunno, Doctor Connors' arm from that piece of shit Spider-Man film. I'm excited.

I lied before - Iron Man Three is the only movie to have gained a point and climbs into four star territory; where it always belonged if I'm honest with myself. I can't stay mad at Shane Black, or that Drew bloke that actually wrote most of the film.

The Croods, Star Trek Into Darkness and Jack The Giant Slayer quietly drift into the three-starred ranks. They're high three stars though, so they shouldn't feel too bad.

Especially considering every three-starred film from Wreck-It Ralph down has dropped a star. I finally realised that they're all just a bit shit really. Wreck-It Ralph might have had videogame references but I didn't like anything else in it. The rest don't really deserve comment, unremarkable as they are.

This is the End and Gangster Squad are appallingly bad. One star is generous - I don't know where I summoned two from. Too generous, that's my problem.

And here's the "seen in 2013 but definitely not a 2013 film" list, which Dial M for Murder (in native 3D!) will soon be joining:
