Sam's Thread of Chattin' w/ Jake & Other Robust Subjects

My tagged classics sold for roughly £20 each. Selling them wasn't as heartbreaking as I thought it would be.

The Smurfs is a skipper.

Brendan Gleeson is in it and he get's turned into a duck. A Smurf then says "Duck you!". It's a strange film.

I'm also glad my impulsive five stars for The Conjuring have gone under the radar.

Only God Forgives is, as you'd expect, very pretty. Ryan Gosling is, as you'd expect, very pretty. Lot of actors staring blankly at the camera, lots of neon red, a satisfactory amount of ultraviolence. Best fight scene of the year - even better than Pacific Rim's fifteen minutes of glory.

Up On Poppy Hill is disarmingly charming. I wanted to hate it but couldn't. Like you go up to Davina McCall to punch her in the face but then it turns out she's lovely. It's also very pretty and stylish, but in a very, very, very different way.

Both borderline five stars. Only God Forgives loses a point because of the cunt ruining the tension by rustling his popcorn constantly, pouring it into his mouth like a fucking pig. I'd have said something but he looked a bit, you know, crackheady. He'd turned up five minutes late to the film so was obviously the rebel without a cause type. Up On Poppy Hill loses a point because I was the only white person in the room. That's what happens when you go out of your way to see the Japanese dub.

No, it was on at the cinema, innit. Also, I bought Princess Mononoke - and it was more than worth the money. Pity it's only available on plebtech.

Is the Leon on your list the one with Jean Reno? IF so how the hell did it take so long to see Gary Oldman at his possibly most villainous?

Seen the Alan Partridge trailer? Then you've seen the funnies.

The Lone Ranger and...Grown Ups 2 on Friday. Steve Austin is in it. That's my reason.

How did it take me so long or how did it take the world so long? I'd seen the movie years and years ago - and many times since.

Alpha Papa is a worthy addition to the Alan Partridge pantheon but the material isn't as ridiculously funny as much of what the character's been in before. The audience didn't laugh at the bits which had been in the trailer. My kind of audience.

So any interest in or expectations for Elysium? I want to see it, but the trailers make it look like another ordinary post-apocalyptic sci-fi thriller.

Am I going to need to see Before Sunrise and Before Sunset before attempting Before Midnight?

I didn't laugh at all. But I'm not a big fan of doing that anyway.

I try my best to force the laughs. You know, so I feel like I'm getting my money's worth. There were still a few genuine ones mixed in there though.

Very interested, baffled by those dismissing the trailer. It looks like District 9 with a different gimmick - what's not to like?

For ultimate authenticity, watch Before Sunrise. Wait nine years, watch Before Sunset. Wait another nine years, watch Before Midnight.

Alternatively, pick up the first two out of your local bargain bin (which probably doesn't even exist these days) and marathon through them in a day or two.

Most of my bargain bins are chalk full of Big Mama's House, Batman Begins, and Air Force One. Nothing I'd actually want to see.

Thank goodness for the internet.

I guess overexposure is the problem for me. I've seen every trailer they put online, an Elysium documentary that runs about six or seven minutes at the cinema, and HBO's First Look at Elysium. Yeah, that's gotta be the problem.
