Sam's Thread of Chattin' w/ Jake & Other Robust Subjects

People that think disagreeing through red rep is bad form, but, presumably, wouldn't mind being red repped because of their username or something.

Jake, Fulham have now played Stoke 3 times this season and we haven't done a single Jason and the Argonauts bet threads, it's certainly no clash of the titans.. I retrospectively think Fulham will win, for the record.

Yeah, but we ass whooped you in the League Cup. And Wilko nearly killed one of your players. I count that as a majority victory for us.

Hey, you're a mod. There's no excuse for there not being a Clash Of The Titans.

Don't think there's a bookies any more.

Finally did that go alone double feature thing. The King's Speech was better than 127 Hours. The latter was good but I was amazed to find that Danny Boyle found a way to clutter a film about a man falling into a hole. The transition from the camera snapshots was straight out of a 12-year-old's media project. Marred the film a surprising amount. The arm-slicing was pleasingly gory.

The King's Speech was good. Funny, even. The King swore. Teehee.

Both four stars. No need to differentiate too much.

Next week: Black Swan. And The Fighter, if it's out. True Grit soon.

My top films of 2011 so far then:
1. The King's Speech
2. 127 Hours

Remember that rumour that the director's cut of The Kingdom of Heaven was actually good? Wouldn't know; still haven't made it out of the first hour.

Still haven't watched Oldboy. Or finished Kingdom of Heaven. I did, however, watch Black Swan. So, I think:

1. Black Swan
2. The King's Speech
3. 127 Hours

With any luck, I'll be going to see The Fighter today as well.

Any interest in seeing Paul?

Empire gave it four stars. I can only suppose it's the biggest trailer to film turnaround since, well, ever. But no, no interest. Pegg + Frost - Wright (+ Rogen) = why would I ever want to see that?

Amended:
1. The Fighter
2. Black Swan
3. The King's Speech
4. 127 Hours

Next week: True Grit and, if I have the inclination, Never Let Me Go. Films which are covertly sci-fi; my new thing.

Really Sam? The Fighter over Black Swan? To each their own I suppose.

Old Boy is a much more important film to watch than Kingdom of Heaven. That should be high up on your list of priorities.

You don't get genuinely good boxing movies often. You don't get good biopics that often either - particularly well paced ones. And Christian Bale delivers his second good role ever. How good was it? Quite good. Quite good indeed. Mark Walberg was quite good as well. That is to say he doesn't get upstaged by a rubber plant.

Black Swan was very good but it felt like Aronofsky's most pretentious work to date. It was more heavyweight than The Wrestler though, I'll give you that much. To be honest, I'm still not sure what to think of it. I think it needs a rewatch but I'll be fucked if I'm going to the cinema for that.

Maybe I'll get round to watching it tonight.

Watched Oldboy. Yeah, was pretty good. It did suffer a bit from Return of the King syndrome, mind. When will people stop imitating Peter Jackson!?

Return of the King syndrome? Elaborate. (Both movies were fucking amazing though).

I'm glad you liked it, Sam. I saw it in my freshman year of college and it blew me the fuck away. Did not see that twist coming, nor the ending. Wild stuff.
