Sam's Thread of Chattin' w/ Jake & Other Robust Subjects

Speaking of Ms Moretz, I finally got around to watching Kick-Ass last night. I enjoyed it about as much as I thought I would

Tell me more.

I enjoyed how the whole superhero thing is treated with something approaching ridicule at the absurdity of it all and yet by the end of the film as it is proven to be successful in the eyes of the public, despite the numerous deaths, it leads to a growth in the absurd, reflecting the bandwagon effect prevalent in today's society no matter how stupid the fad may be.

Probably the best part was the actual violence. In direct contrast to how heroes like Batman fight crime with the most hi-tech of gadgetry and hand-to-hand skills without seemingly inflicting any long term damage or even drawing blood despite delivering numerous punches to the face, Hit-Girl and Big Daddy are vigilantes in the worst sense, not trusting the police to do anything about villains so instead of trying to capture them they go for the jugular and remove them from society in the most permanent of ways.

You've put more thought into that film than Matthew Vaughn ever did.

You're welcome. I was gonna say "than Mark Millar and Matthew Vaughn ever did" but then I remembered Millar had a few flourishes in his version that I actually quite enjoyed.

Kick-Ass should not have been made into a film. It's comic was fine, but nothing really special. The film was really just an excuse to get Nic Cage to pretend he's Adam West and for a 12 year old to say cunt. Not impressed at all.

Yeah, there isn't much in the way of conceptual originality in Kick-ass. It follows the outline of the superhero genre and throws in some Tarantino style violence and a lead character who might as well have been played by Michael Cera.

Still enjoyed it though

I was impressed by Nic Cage; not so much by my now-mortal enemy, Chloe Moretz. You will fall to the child actor curse, you bitch!

Do Sucker Punch next.

I've started testing people's moral fibre by asking them if they liked the Sucker Punch trailer or not. Wait, no, not moral fibre. Standards; that's the one.

I'm looking at you, Coco.

Watch the trailer for The Fighter and then the trailer for Sucker Punch. Have you done that? Okay. Based on that blink test, which of those movies would you rather see? Sure, I enjoyed the actual film more in the case of The Fighter. I don't wanna embarrass myself in front of Sugar Ray. What am I saying here? I'm not sure. I was working up to the Sugar Ray thing.

It wasn't shit because of The Rock, but he certainly didn't help matters. I think the reason some people thought it was so awful is because the booking was just weird.

I wouldn't say the show was shit, but the main event was essentially shit because of The Rock.

When Cena rugby tackled Miz into the crowd, I thought they were going to have some crazy brawl. Instead, we get a TNA finish.
