Sam, Coco, Barbosa, NorCal, and J-Glass discuss esoteric shows

Sam, have you gotten round to that second season of Vikings? Or do you need hurt?

The pacing of that show was just all off for me - just blowing its load again and again again, never allowing for effective anticipation to build. I'll give it another go round at some point.

The second season?

I suppose I could see it. Because it was pretty fucking crazed on a week by week basis.

In other news, True Blood appears to be going out with quite the whimper.

What a crap ending, to a slow & mostly un-eventful season. This just shows how they really had no idea beforehand where this series was going or how it should end. I hoped they would turn it around & go out with a bang, but I was disappointed in the finale. Except for the parts with Eric & Pam, who continued to be awesome.

Yea, this sums it up. It felt like a series finale only in the fact that it was the last season of the series.

The anti-Spartacus, if you will.

KB have you watched the first 2 episodes of Supernatural this season?

Anybody else watching Homeland right now?

If not, what are you all following atm?

Not much. Awating the new seasons of Vikings and GOT (well duh)

The only stuff I watch regularly is Modern Family, and recent AHS:Freak Show...the latter of which I have been a little more "meh" on than I figured I would be.

Still pretty slow for tv these days.

I've seen the first one and liked it. I'm very glad they didn't just turn Dean back after pulling out the Deus Ex Machina item again. I haven't seen the second yet but it's on my DVR.

I have just gone through the whole five seasons of Justified. Gotta love some Raylan Givens and Boyd Crowder.

I watched some of Scandal recently and enjoyed it, but I felt that it suffered from having too many episodes. It could almost have done with being like True Detective - 8-10 episodes.

A bit worried that the Blacklist might go the same way but then it does have one of the best characters on TV right now in Raymond Reddington, who is basically Alan Shore with even fewer moral scruples.

I've only watched the first episode of Supernatural this season and wasn't fond of it, is the second any better?

Justified is fantastic, can't wait for the final season in January.

Honestly the 2nd episode of Supernatural this season may have been the best episode in the series since like season 5 or 6. It's incredible.

I finished re-watching Boston Legal last weekend and have made a start on season 4 of Boardwalk Empire which seems to have improved somewhat on series 3, where more minor characters are given interesting stories. Van Zant rubbing elbows with the Capone family has been intriguing to watch too.

My NowTV box buggered up the other night so I stuck on Band of Brothers and I'm suddenly on episode 9. Terrific show though and the actual veterans speaking before each episode makes the show a lot more sobering to watch.

On a lighter note, I bought the first 5 seasons of Friends off iTunes a while back so I'm making my way through that before I go to sleep most nights. Season 1 Chandler is one of the biggest douchebags ever committed to small-screen but Ross is brilliant.

Season 2 of Supernatural is probably one of the better ones of that show. Maybe 3rd after 5 and 9. It finishes the "Yellow Eyes" story in a very emotionally satisfying manner.

Supernatural season 9 was fantastic but I haven't started on 10 yet. 9 had possibly one of the best endings to a season of any show I've seen till date.

I just started watching the Blacklist and it's a fun little show. There are lots of stereotypes( FBI guy with nothing to live for but the job, heroine whose husband is a spy...duh) and Spader does seem to be channeling Hannibal Lecter quite a lot but like I said, it's not a show to be taken very seriously. Good timepass material.

The other one is the classic Twin Peaks. Started on it because of the revival being announced. It's slow going....but I love the lead Kyle MacLachlan. He does a great job playing the idiosyncratic FBI agent. But apart from him nothing has really interested me so far. I'm on episode 3.

Also want to start on Kingdom. I've heard it's a drama based on MMA, so that cannot be too bad.

Someone should do a drama based on prowrestling. Based in the Rock n' Wrestling period. Could be a good watch.

Oh man, Homeland has been UNREAL this season. Easily the best season in the show's history, and may even be the best season of television period this year. Simply incredible.

Interested to see how the show plays things out, since they are beginning to delve more and more into actual history, specifically Rollo and Bjorn invading France.

I take it there are some Hannibal fans here? Just been plowing through both seasons and absolutely loving it.

I didn't think I could love Mads Mikkelsen more than I do but he's by far the best Hannibal Lecter in my eyes.

The cinematography, visual and sound effects are all fantastic too in adding an extra layer to the madness without being needlessly over the top.

NorCal got me into Spartacus this weekend. I am now in the process of acquiring seasons 1, 3, and 4 (we watched the entirety of season 2 in one night).

No, only if you are watching it with me :lmao:

I carefully monitor which parts need to be skipped in the prequel so as not to be spoilers for the first season.

Its only like 30 seconds of the first episode and 30 seconds of the last episode, but still. itll fuck everything up.

but chronologically in the universe of the show, yes, it goes, 2, 1, 3 and 4. Thats why you see us talking about the seasons by their sub-name "Gods Of The Arena" "Blood and Sand" "Vengeance" "War Of The Damned"

Much easier to keep track of that way

I'm still sitting over here waiting on the Julius Caesar spin-off.

This is getting a bit redundant but

Both the new seasons of Black Sails and Vikings have been fucking great this year. The lot of you are missing out.
