Round Three

hulk-vs-thing_zps96f12d15.png

Two of Marvel's heaviest hitters collide in this match as The Incredible Hulk faces off against The Thing. Will it be the big green monster that continues his warpath, or does The Thing have what it takes to stop him in his tracks?

FIGHT!

Two competitors who are icons when it comes to strength and durability. Marvel has pit these two together many times in the past and it has always been fun to see them work together or just smash each other. Most times they end up having a stale mate but I believe the record right now is Hulk: 5 and Thing: 1 right now though so I am going to vote for Hulk in this one.

You're talking about Red hulk Vs Thing with Serpent's hammer right? On the one win for thing.

Really I think in hand to hand. That Ben is the better fighter, he's allways seemed like he could dodge. But I think that time has passed, maybe if this was a fight in the 1970's we could see a closer fight. But in the past what 5 years we have seen hulk take down planets, tank some of the strongest superhero's that comics have to give, and more. Even Fixxit beat Grimm....

I think the thing here, is hulk just keeps getting stonger while ben stays the same. I think it just ends up being a slug fest, Ben pisses Hulk off more and more and Hulk keeps gaining strength. In the end, I think we will see an end to this game of monsters.

Red Hulk isn't actually Hulk because it's Thunderbolt Ross, but no I wasn't using that as my example I was referencing Fantastic Four #320. Mr. Fixit Hulk went up against a super powered Thing and lost.

Fixit Hulk later came back in Hulk #350 to knock out Thing though.

Busy, busy day for the Phat man. You have to admit Rulk vs Thing was pretty epic though. I was actually going to ref #350 when I saw you put up 320 FF. Becuase that's the one I was talking Fixxit beat Thing in.

So basically what we are talking about here is this. Thing beat Hulk back in the day. But since then Hulk has been laying the smack down. It's not allways been a clean cut win for Hulk. But more times than not it has.

Hulk is used to fighting on his own, Thing is used to being part of a team. A team he does not have access to for the purposes of this tournament. Essentially, the Hulk is far more experienced in this 1 on 1 type combat, has beaten the Thing numerous times, has gone toe to toe with Wolverine, Thor, and just about every "Heavy" that the Marvel universe has to offer. The Thing is just a lesser version of the Hulk.

HULK SMAAAAASSSSSSHHHHHHHH PUNY ROCK THING!

There really isn't much room for debate here seeing as this fight has actually happened numerous times, with Hulk winning more often than not. Hulk smash puny Thing, Hulk move onto next round

From an overall perspective, the Hulk has come out the clear winner of the vast majority of their many fights over the decades of their existence. In terms of fighting skills, Thing has the advantage due to military training he's had. From a physical standpoint, it's the Hulk all the way.

The Hulk is stronger, has much greater stamina, is every bit as durable if not more so and has a healing factor that's among the most developed of any comic book character. Plus, Hulk's powers, especially his strength, increase as he gets angrier.

The Thing's chances of victory increase depending upon which incarnation/personality we're talking about. One of the core personalities, often referred to as the Professor, was seen quite a bit during the early to mid 90s. This Hulk was essentially Bruce Banner's personality & intellect in Hulk's body. He still had all his powers but the character had a subconscious failsafe built in. One of Banner's biggest concerns has always been that if the Hulk grew too angry, there'd be no way to stop him. The Professor Hulk would transform back into Bruce Banner once his anger and adrenaline level reached a certain point. As a result, this version of the Hulk is probably the overall weakest physically. He also couldn't tap into the rage enhanced strength with the same level of ease and speed as other incarnations because of his heavily increased intellect. Thing would have a better shot against this Hulk.

At the end of the day, however, it's a fight that we've seen on numerous occasions and Hulk almost always comes out the clear winner.

Hulk has defeated Ben on his own; Ben with the FF; the FF with the Avengers with the XMen with the Sorcerer Supreme.

My apologies to Aunt Petunia's favorite nephew but he is severely outclassed by the Hulk.

Hulk is the strongest competitor in the tournament, and likely the only one that can stop the Juggernaut with raw power alone. The Thing would get flattened by Juggernaut about as quickly as he would by Hulk. I don't feel like parroting most of the arguments made in favor of Hulk against Thing, but it's likely the Thing would stand about as much chance against Hulk's abilities as he would against Gaara's.

Hulk moves on.

I remember the Hulk vs. Thing fights as a kid. I remember they were always a big deal, and I also remember wishing that Thing would win over Hulk because, back then, I just enjoyed Mr. Grimm more.

Hulk had some good stories, but they got a little redundant before they started shaking him up a bit. Grimm, to me, just had more personality.

But, as much as I used to hate to see it, Hulk still won those battles. So, even though there's a childhood fondness of Benjy from Yancy Street, I have to give this to Hulk.

(By the way, who remembers the part of the Mr. Fixit/Gray Hulk story where the Beast calls him out about knowing he's the Hulk? I always thought that was cool because McCoy never flinched, even when Hulk threatened his life. Random, I know, but Beast was always one of my very favorite characters back in the day. Back when he was his classic blue, fuzzy, wisecracking self. Reminiscing over.)
