The Roid Rage
Getting Noticed By Management
Recently on the main page of Wrestlezone.com I noticed an article about Bryan Danielson(Former ROH GOD) being signed with WWE and Wrestling a dark match on Raw. Shortly after that it has been reported that Mr. Danielson himself asked to be sent to the WWE developmental company Florida Championship Wrestling. Why? He felt that his performance was lacking, and he needed to work off some ring rust.
Now I don't know about any of you, but I respect the hell out of that. I have never really watched much of this guys work in ROH but I have always heard good things, so I couldn't really imagine what his performance with "Ring Rust" as he referred to it would look like. What I respect is that he is not about to let you find out. This guy wants to be at the top of his game when he debuts and that shows that he cares. A lot of people wouldn't. They would just want to rush to t.v. and not really care about it. Most people would only be concerned about getting on t.v. first and worry about improving second.
Instead Bryan Danielson wants to be able to go out there and show what he's really got when he gets the chance. Be it for selfish or unselfish reasons that shows me that he is serious, and more concerned with doing things right, than just having the opportunity to do things at all. He is harboring his own progress in a sense, to make sure that when the public sees him that both he and the audience get the most out of it. That is a smart decision, and one that I think deserves some respect.
Take a look at some of the guys who have debuted recently. There was Tyler Reks, Vance Archer, Eric Escobar, Ricky Ortiz, Caylen Croft, Trent Barreta, Drew McIntyre, and Sheamus. All of them came from FCW and it is arguable that all of them came too early. Besides Sheamus and McIntyre everyone else has flopped so far. Even Escobar has only had a luke warm response and they were obviously trying to give him a serious push at first having Vickie Guerrero who has only been associated with champions as his manager. Maybe Danielson recognized this or had enough foresight to realize that if his ring work wasn't impressive from the beginning, he would suffer the same fate.
I think you have to stand back for a second and say "Hey, that's a smart move and I respect that decision." It means that he isn't willing to give the fans any less than he feels he is capable of, and truly wants to succeed. He isn't willing to compromise his success because he wants to be on t.v. right away or anything. I like that and it makes me more eager for his arrival. There is no telling when that day will actually come, but if his willingness and desire to excel are any indication of what we can expect, I'd say we are in for a real treat.
