RAW LD - September 3rd, 2012

Raw overall was meh, enjoyed anything involving Kane and Bryan who are both must see features of Raw at this point, which makes me happy as I love both as performers. Ryback is going to be WWE or World Heavyweight Champion within a year, sans him doing something idiotic, I admire their willingness to gradually allow him to go over.

Enjoyed the main event. As one of the few people who likes ADR I liked seeing him pick up a win, bland character, great in-ring performer, wouldn't object to a feud between himself and Cena. And the reveal was done masterfully, kudos to WWE, one of the best endings to Raw in a long time (I'm including the end to Raw 1,000th when I say that) and buzz will grow over the Heyman/Punk relationship for a week.

Don't see Punk leaving NOC without the WWE Championship. Potential interference from Brock Lesnar is there.

What happened two weeks ago? You expect me, a wrestling fan, to remember what happened two weeks ago? Who the hell is Brock Lesnar!?

The winner of the main event of Summerslam who quit in a Tout while HHH got to (not) retire in a 15 minute speech.

i swear no way the amount of porn i ever watched will compare to the mess i just made after seeing Paul Heyman tonight with CM Punk! lol

Apparently this just happened.

i am just replaying the ending of tonights raw on my DVR over and over again, don't think i am going get sick of watching it.

It was a RAW that I enjoyed whilst I watched it but now that its ended I've changed my mind.

The AJ/Vickie segment took too long to reach its conclusion which was anti-climatic at best, the Kane/Bryan segment took too long to reach its inevitable breakdown. I think the ideas were right (except Kane/Bryan not ending up teaming) but the timing wasn't.

I didn't agree with Punk walking out whatsoever, as whilst it's classic heel behaviour to deprive fans of a match, going from Punk vs. Sheamus Champion vs. Champion and hyping that up for somewhere between half and hour and an hour, just for the bait and switch actually gave the crowd no chance of getting into the Swagger match as they were ready for Punk.

It wasn't all bad, I did enjoy the Anger Management segments etc, I just had to question timing issues and that Swagger decision.

What an ending though, this will be interesting.

Talking about Vickie, loved her evil laugh at the end! I know some people hated it and got annoyed but i thought it was perfect lol

Kane and Daniel Bryan hugging it out was the single best thing on WWE TV in months.

And Miz was amazing during that segment.

Really great seeing AJ get undone a couple times tonight. Her segment with Vickie was terrific. Best Vickie has been in a long time.

I thought (see wished) AJ might "pre-GM AJ" Vickie by kissing her.

Just some quick thoughts on Raw tonight...

-I still don't like AJ as the General Manager about half the time. Her and Vickie have some chemistry and the fans are definitely behind anything they do together, and that stuff is fine. I wouldn't mind more of that, but what I can't get behind are AJ's announcements. I'm not quite sure what the hold-up is, but she seems to take momentum out of a situation when she's booking a match, or involved with with big boys. Definitely keep her around, and keep her in angles with polarizing characters because she's one of the few women draws out there. But maybe tweak her use, or get her out of that role. I did like her interaction with Jack Swagger and Punk tonight, I did not like her announcements of the two main event matches.

-This was probably the first 3-hour Raw - not including some of the specials they've done in the past - that I thought they really utilized the extra time and entertained me throughout. Lots of angles pushed towards Night of Champions, some really solid matches, and a rare dose of well-executed comedy with Kane and Daniel Bryan.

-Speaking of which, I was a little disappointed they didn't go the tag route with Kane and Bryan. That being said, had that been the decision they probably would have lost a lot of momentum without any real "over" competition in the division. For what it's worth, this was one of the best build-ups to a non-main event PPV match I've seen in a very long time. It shouldn't be under-stated that this doesn't involve CM Punk, John Cena, Brock Lesnar, or Triple H...and it's taking up the biggest chunk of time on each week's Raw broadcast. Bryan is over, Kane is a great enhancement talent to just about any feud. I wanted tag action, but I'm completely satisfied with a really well-built singles match for the next PPV.

-I have to give a huge hand to John Cena and Alberto del Rio working that hard on free television. I wasn't expecting, after 2.5 hours of content, to get a great (albeit gimmicky) 15-20 minute TV match at the end. Well done.

-Paul Heyman revealed as the driver to CM Punk's car. With the announcement that Paul E was in Chicago, and having not shown up yet I saw that coming, but that doesn't make it any less of a big deal. Two of the best talkers, movers and shakers in wrestling history...together. Paul Heyman and CM Punk joining forces has to be considered an internet fans wet dreams; I won't even speculate as to where this is going. Does Punk need a mouth piece? No. But he also is having trouble executing a full heel turn, because people love him so much and WWE has made a hobby out of "letting the fans decide" lately. Heyman draws heat if that's his intention; that could be a great aid to Punk's career. It also gets more use out of Heyman while Lesnar isn't around, which can never be seen as bad business.

-I was hoping for more progression in the tag division tonight. It does seem like they're keeping it on Smackdown, which is disappointing; I'd much rather have the Divas contained to Friday nights. Not even a match for Kofi or Truth, who are both fine in-ring talents Raw could have benefited from tonight.

-I love Santino, but I'm not enjoying his cobra issues and feud with Aksana. Antonio Cesaro, as the Champion, just isn't getting over while his challengers and manager are taking up the spotlight.

-Tensai...don't care. Sin Cara...don't care. Mysterio and Rhodes could be doing so much more.

-Why is Eve the center of the Divas division, with Kaitlyn as the #1 contender to the Championship?

Overall I thought Raw was incredibly solid tonight. The twist at the end sold next week's show and ultimately Night of Champions for me, and I'm guessing many other people. No wrestling from CM Punk in Chicago was an odd move, but one that would ultimately pay off. I still don't think you can buy a crowd by NOT giving them advertised matches to further a story, but I won't give them too much shit for it considering. Dolph Ziggler continues to come along, and his match with Randy Orton was expectantly decent. Orton is consistent, Ziggler sells phenomenally; it's hard to ruin that combination. A great main event and a lot of work done towards Night of Champions has been giving Raw at least one thumbs up, if not two. Let's hope they can keep the momentum going next week.

Boring, for the most part. The Heyman/Punk pairing is intriguing, I'll give WWE that much.

AJ still feels out of place. Her presence during the opening segment took it down several levels. Actually, she destroyed it. It didn't feel nearly as important once her awful music hit. She doesn't fit, and I hope they're moving on from her. Seems that way, anyhow.

The rest was the SAME EXACT thing we see every other week, which seems to be a pattern WWE is following more and more often as of late. Variety hasn't been there thang recently.

One thing about this show royally pissed me off (other than the fact that CM Punk continues to be miscast as a heel which has stripped him of everything people liked about him but that's for another time) was the AJ/Vicki segment. The board said AJ couldn't hit anybody and that her actions were in question. However, if an employee strikes their boss, that's grounds for suspension or even termination, no?

I get what they were going for, but it made AJ look incredibly stupid to just take that when she as an authority figure could have suspended or fired Vicki. If it was deemed "bad", the board of directors could rehire her next week but at last that would have been logical. I HATED that segment as a result and I couldn't fully enjoy the main event because that made me incredibly mad.

You all do know we saw Heyman two weeks ago right?

One glimpse of Paul Heyman and everyone's panties get wet.

For me it has nothing to do with when we saw him last. It has everything to do with what he brings to the table. This adds an extra element to the heel turn that Punk has taken and will make for interesting television in the coming weeks. As a fan, it is exciting for 2 reasons. It gives us an alliance we havent seen on WWE tv, and it gives the show great potential for a bit more edge that has been lacking in the overall product. Instead of recycling the same old crap, this is a new idea that could pay off nicely and add something to what Punk is doing. Punk shakes things up and so does Heyman. Good idea to team them up, even if it is for nothing more than some great promo time.

Is it the 2nd coming of Jesus like most fanboys are going to scream about? No. Is it still exciting? Yeah.

If anything, he is back to the person people love (to hate). If you think CM Punk has been more entertaining in the last twelve months than he is right now, we're watching two different shows. He's fantastic right now, the best thing going on Raw. That's not something I could say for him, oh, two months ago.

I agree with nightmare. Putting Heyman and Punk together could be amazing. Add in Brock and Raw is about to get really, really interesting. Before that happened, it wasn't. Not a SINGLE interesting thing happened on Raw prior to Heyman popping up. We got the same matches we do every week. Same stupid segments, same boring interviews, etc.

We'll have to agree to disagree. While I do think Punk's face run got watered down as the months went by, the thing that made him a face in the first place was the fact that the fans turned him that way. Truth is, the fans STILL want to cheer him (and not just in Chicago), so fighting that seems stupid because so few guys actually get over with crowds as babyfaces.

That said, this heel turn is horrible in my opinion. Punk's character has become one-dementional and it's made Punk boring in my opinion. I don't look forward to what he has to say anymore because it's now pretty much the same, and now he's becoming like every other heel with cheap shots and stupid tactics which he hasn't needed for his lengthy title reign. To me, it just takes away from everything he's done. He was very close to being John Cena's equal as a babyface. I think he actually was at the point in some ways. As a heel, he'll never be. It's a waste of him.

Exactly. When they announced 3 hour RAW I was hopeful. I slowly realized it will just be filled with maybe 1 extra match and the rest will be padded with crap (touts, tweets, etc.) There are shining moments that have potential (Kane\Bryan being one) that they pull the trigger on 2 quickly and end up screwing up somehow. This Heyman\Punk team-up drags some life back into the program. Same old crap, sprinkled with a few funny moments is what RAW has been in the past month or so. This alliance has great television written all over it.

This might be the thing that elevates Punk in his heel turn. The addition of Heyman could bring the whole situation over the top. Punk was reaching a plateau of sorts as a face champ, so they turned him heel (with the idea of Rock\Punk at RR) knowing what he can bring to the table. They knew certain people will still cheer him no matter what. They also know that he can generate plenty of heat and play the heel just fine. The addition of Heyman makes that a solid reality and the potential to be one of the greatest heel champs we have seen in recent years. Going from his position as a very over face champ, to a very over heel champ is not an easy transition. Adding Heyman is a great help and a fantastic idea.
