Quran Burning in Florida.

This aint 1776, this is 2010. We're over there, and are going to stay. Nothing is going to stop that. Get over it. Look around you, there is lots that's "unconstitutional" but you can't dwell on something written in the past. You're treating it like it's the bible or something. The constitution was made to be interpreted however we please. This is a time you are speaking on something you don't know as much about as you think. I don;t mean to sound like an ass about it, but it's true.

People today make me sick, you and you "The constitution is old and we've outgrown it" or "its a living breathing document" arguments. You people dont know shit about history or the constitution and its really sad.

You...you seriously dont know that it IS, intended to be a living, breathing document, and is entirely intended to be able to be amended

You've gotten really good at telling people who they are and what they think is wrong.

It very well may be unconstitutional. That's all well and good. It's also well and good that we're there and someone has to rebuild the place. We put it in the situation it's in now so it's our responsibility. I can't stand that and don't agree with it but that's reality.

Yea hes totally right, lets invade Iran next, theyre horrible and stone women! They might be getting Nukes too, its only a matter of time!!!!!

As soon as they can be linked to attacking us, or being a threat to us with their illegal nuclear weapons, then fucking right we will

I'm gonna say this once. My grandfather WHO IS A RABBI thinks the burning of the Quran is stupid and not what the U.S is all about. I think that should hold some sway at least.

Ide like to apologize. I get way into these debates at times and I dont want to attack people or offend them.

Norcal: I respect the hell out of you. You fight for my freedom and my country overseas doing what you think is right and your an awesome guy so sorry for going after you like that.

Mongoose: Your a pretty awesome guy from what Ive seen and I think outside of political jargon we could get along pretty well.

And anyone else offended. Im just standing up fro what I think is right and the right direction for our country, and I am passionate and steadfast in my resolve. If your offended I apologize. So no hard feelings.

Damn fury, you just some mad respect from me dude. You held your own.

Anyways, I just wrote a 3 page front and back paper on this for a current event for criminal justice. I basically just ranted and talked about how fuck up this was. I may throw it away though...

Why would you throw it away? If its good keep it, or just revise it a little. If its what you believe in then stick to your guns.

For the first time in this thread, I agree with Fury on that. Stand by your opinions. I mean look at that, we just went through almost 9 or 10 pages of back and forth, different opinions, with neither one of us budging. While I do not always agree with Fury, I respect him for standing his ground. Do the same Hamler

I haven't read anything other the the first post of this thread, so I'm not sure where the discussion has gone. Gainesville, Florida is just over an hour south of where I live, so this is a pretty local story, and all the local news channels are down there covering it. To be completely honest, this man makes me completely embarassed and ashamed to be a Floridian. His actions could be not only dangerous to people in America, but could put the lives of soldiers in even more danger. Literally nobody wants him to go through with this. So please keep this event cancelled. Please.

You shouldn't be ashamed to be a Floridian. He isn't a representative nor does he speak for all of us, Floridians.

But just like the terrorists don't represent all Muslims, people think being Muslim=terrorists. I don't want people to think Floridian=ignorant.

I dont think it does, Im a semi-Floridian and I dont feel it identifies me. Nor should it identify anyone other than the man himself.

And trust me, a lot more things come to mind when people think about Florida than some cook, like Disney, and.... Tiger Woods... lol

Originalism FTW. Assholes should stop looking to the bench to fix their problems. The Constitution CAN be amended, it's just that lazy fucks (or people who know they're wrong but want to get their way anyway) go to the Supreme Court instead.

Exactomundo.

You brought up South Park earlier, perfect example. They had every right to show the Muslim prophet in their episode. Every right. But they censored him anyway. For the first time SOUTH PARK censored something out. Hell his very NAME was censored in the second part. There is no copy of that episode uncensored. Or how about Dr.Laura, or anyone else who went on a "******, ******, ******" rant. Freedom of speech? yes. But were they punished for it? Damn right they were. Just because you have the freedom to do something, does not mean it's socially acceptable. Rights are a made up thing, they're an idea. Where do rights come from? People say from God. Well how does that apply in today's culture? The bill of rights has been amended 17 times since it's "Creation" So who knows, one day it may be amended again to say something about this being bad. You speak of rights, well if the "rights of Americans" are so indefinite, then what about the Japanese-American's in 1942? Where were their rights? The government took them away as they saw fit. No lawyer, no trial, nothing. So what makes this one man so important? There is no "Rights" they are PRIVILEGES. A right can not be taken away, only a privilege can. THAT'S why this man should be stopped. He's abusing his privileges, and should be taken away.

That's where you're wrong. If everything guaranteed to us by the Constitution are considered "privileges" then we wouldn't be a country based on freedom. No one should have their right to free speech taken away, and you're absolutely out of your mind for even suggesting it.

But they have been in the past. And there was no repercussions for it either. Rights have been taken away from select groups a few times before. But when they complained about it, no one listened.

Umm Mozz there's a bunch of history with that. 1942 with the Japanese and their rights taken away due to the government thinking that they could be spies. Slavery is a big one.

So? These have nothing to do with how things are run today, as both were ruled unconstitutional.

Oh, you mean those *hardcore* violations of free speech that had South Park and Dr. Laura censored? Those huge violations that had nothing to do with the government in the slightest bit? These people weren't censored by the government. South Park was censored by Comedy Central, and Dr. Laura was fired. Neither of them went to jail, or were fined by the government.

By this logic, people being banned from this forum is a violation of the first amendment right to free speech. It's fucking ******ed that you would even cite these as times where people don't have free speech when they actually did.

Edit: In fact, I don't even know why I even bothered arguing the frankly idiotic point that rights have been taken away in the past. Who gives a shit? You made a great point, for fucking ******ed reasons. Yeah, we also did slavery. We also forcefully put Japanese-Americans in internment camps. But let me get this straight. You're using these as examples as to why we should take this guy's rights away? Are you mental? Look, I have nothing against you personally, but you're really coming off as goofy as FTS is.
