I know what people glorifying the wrestling of their youth looks like. I see it every time there's an Attitude Era thread. So... thanks for more of the same. Thanks, man.
Yes, I catch flack because there's a "3" in front of my age. But many seem to forget that while it's easy to sit back 20 years later and write a review about something you read on paper, there is nothing like being there and living it. I can make an argument that only a handful of Wrestlemania events over the past 20 years truly captured the emotion that compares to the main events of the first 9.
I know I come across as a cocky bore with a lot of things I write on here but that's because I've seen the perspective of professional wrestling from both an impartial, fan's standpoint and that of a smark's. Most of you grew up watching wrestling while always having insider information at your fingertips. You're all so judgmental because you read a bunch of internet stuff and think you know it all. But until you've lived as both a smark AND just a fan, you'll never really understand what wrestling is all about. At least I can offer up that perspective to all of you, even if you don't care to know about it.
Oh, I totally get that, and glossed over Killam's part about a defining moment. I just feel that when you look at a title run, one moment can barely, if ever, do it justice. Especially with this reign, which is really broken off into segments, all of which rarely interconnect, save for the overarching respect theme. If we judged title reigns by individual moments, I'd probably put Mankind and Goldberg on the top list of great champions, because the individual moments are great. When lumped with the greater sum of their work, it doesn't equate a great champion.
I think that all seems nonsensical. I'll just go with I fucked up
I do respect the idea. I just did something on a whim. Tried to be different and creative. In the end I knew it was up to Mike and maybe a couple of others on the main site and they could use it if they wanted.
However, I must confess that I did have dreams that Mark Madden would do a hate piece on it saying I was out of touch and had nothing creative to offer the IWC any longer.

I know exactly what I'm talking about. You're sucking yourself off for being more of a fan than anyone who wasn't lucky enough to be around before the advent of the internet. But when push comes to shove, it's more of the same: More often than not, people think their salad days as a fan trump everyone else's. It has nothing to do with the internet. It's a mindset that will exist twenty years down the line, when Cena/Punk/Orton kids long for the good old days.Oh, please. It wasn't even close to being the same thing. You're actually going to say there were just as many smark fans in the second Golden Era as there were in the Attitude Era? Completely impossible since the wrestling audience grew ten fold from the second Golden Era until the Attitude Era and the advances in technology (VCR's to the internet and digital video) couldn't support the numbers.
I swear, sometimes I think you throw comments like that out there to make yourself sound like you know what you're talking about when it's anything but.

The idea that people who grew up in the AE and beyond didn't have a fan's perspective of wrestling is absurd. Absolutely laughable. If that's what dinosaurs like you have to contribute around here, I think we'd all be better off if you just curled into a ball and died.
No, I'm not joking. Die. You and everybody else who's desperate to glorify the old days.
Same goes for the AE fans who won't let go. Take them to hell with you.
Why do fans of the "Golden Era" of WWF think that Golden Era was so good? What was so good about it? The wrestling was mediocre (Hulk Hogan, Ultimate Warrior, Brutus Beefcake, Rick Martel, etc). Wrestling just became mainstream in that time period because of Hulk Hogan but Wrestling wasn't that good that some fans of that era made it out to be. Even JCP/NWA/WCW was better that the Golden Era WWF. Look at any Ric Flair/Sting, Flair /Steamboat match.90s WWF was filled with cartoon characters (Red Rooster WTF) NWA/WCW had better wrestler too Tully Blanchard, Nikita Koloff, Barry Windham, Great Muta etc.
Post some matches of the Golden Era WWF (other than Ricky Steamboat and Randy Savage) that were a 5 star classics like Bret Hart/Shawn Michaels, Kurt Angle/Benoit matches.
Oh boy. This should be fun.

Uncle Sam and Coco. Probably the two most popular guys who wrote articles. Not that the success isn't merited.
For the record, if you are going to red rep out of spite, you may as well do something a little more creative than the endless passive aggrressive ellipsis. Hope you like what's coming your way.
And allow me to explain why you know nothing about wrestling. Wrestling is all about making as much money as possible, while managing not to hurt your opponent, and sending the crowd home happy. That, jackass, is what wrestling is all about. And if you don't get that, I'm sorry, but you don't get the business.
Hulk Hogan drew more money in one year than Chris Benoit did his entire career. Smarten up, then come back to us an tell us what Era wasn't good. For the record, this applies to Golden Era fans who slag the Attitude Era
