On Friday night, Fox's Dollhouse was only able to draw 2.1 million total viewers, a mere 0.8 with adults 18-49. That may be because The night before Jeff Dunham's "dolls" proved more popular. Dunham's dolls are dummies and he's a ventriloquist.

His new Comedy Central series, The Jeff Dunham Show drew 5.3 million viewers, the highest ever premiere for a show on that network the same night, Friday, October 23. As my mother might say, "Go figure." The Jeff Dunham Show.

Oh and the numbers got even better later that night when a repeat drew 7.9 million. And for the demo geeks out there that feel the 18-49 adult demographic number is the really, really important guide for TV ratings, Dunham hit a 2.6, more than three times Dollhouse's demo.

(By the way, I'm not picking on Dollhouse in particular. Just going by the demo at 9 p.m. that night, CBS's Medium was a 2.2, Dateline had a 1.8, and ABC's Ugly Betty was a 1.2, so Dunham bested all the network offerings.)

This guy is not funny. Both he and his puppets suck. I appreciate the art form of the mime more than the ventriloquist. I don't know how you can build an entire television show off of some asshole and his puppets, and I refuse to even watch a minute of it.

Dunham's show drew so much because it's been shoved down everyone;s throats, and was debuting.

I have never seen a Dollhouse commercial...

I love you more and more each day Guy. Jeff Dunham is fucking horrible at everything he does, he isn't even slightly amusing, his puppets are fucking stupid, and his "jokes" if you can call them that are about as funny as a Gulag.

God I hate that talentless hack. "Look, I have a black puppet and I talk like a pimp! That's funny! Look, now I've got a Middle Eastern puppet and he's a terrorist! Look how funny this is!"

One of the worst "comedians" working today.

I happen to like Dunham :glare:

I don't expect his show to consistently draw those numbers, or even last too long. It's not something that can work every week...

He's absolutely abysmal. He's the kind of guy that comedians worldwide love to laugh at, like Carlos Mencia. Real comics just sit, stare at the guy, and shake their head in disgust.

I'll give him credit for an interesting concept, despite not being a fan. No, ventriloquism in and of itself isn't interesting, but using it as mitigating factor to get away with some less-than-PC humor ... on paper it sounds like it should work. A comic couldn't stand up there and make Mexican jokes, but when Peanut makes Mexican jokes at Jose Jalepeno On A Stick, it's easier to get away with.

And yeah, maybe racist jokes aren't the best material to work with, but as George Carlin pointed out on several occasions, anything can be funny if you do it right. He's got the right idea, it's just a shame Jeff Dunham isn't really that funny.

R.I.P. George Carlin :(

I think Dunham's stuff without the dummies is his best stuff. I know it's not exactly a skill, but it makes me laugh.

My favorite current comedian is either Titus or Gabriel Iglesias...

He's pretty funny to the average person, which will guarantee success.

I don't think he's particularly good, but whatever will you do.

Comedy Central should bring back a show that was actually funny, something like Tough Crowd. I loved that show. The comedians Colin Quinn usually had on (Patrice O'Neal, Jim Norton, Greg Giraldo, and Keith Robinson) were all hysterical as they riffed on the day's events and would usually go ahead and smash each other too.

It was a half hour of nothing but laughs for me every night.

Gabriel Iglesias cracks me up. I've never seen anything from Titus.

Ah glad I'm not the only one who doesn't find him funny. First time I watched him I smiled, 2nd time you realise he hasn't got any material and each puppet is 1 joke, over and over again. I love ventriloquism but it's an art and if you're not good at it, you better at least know you're no good. Cheap gags about hands and "Made in" stamps don't work.

And Guy, please explain to me how Jeff is an "asshole". I'd love to know.

He appeals to the lowest common denominator. He also makes a good living when he's not even that good of a ventriloquist to begin with. You can see his mouth move half the time.

And as far as his racial humor goes, the difference between him and Chappelle is that Chappelle did more of a social commentary on racism on his show, and it was smart. Instead of doing a social commentary on race in his act, he has the black puppet talk like a pimp and the spanish puppet have a stereotypical spanish accent, and do stereotypical jokes on both races.

I think Dane Cook is less obnoxious than Jeff Dunham.

So that makes him an "asshole"? I guess we have different definitions for the word asshole. And I find Chappelle to not be that funny at all. Every time I tell my friends that, they act like there's something wrong with me and like he's the funniest man alive.

I think Dane Cook is less obnoxious than Jeff Dunham.

I don't find Dane Cook to be funny at all and he's probably the most obnoxious comedian I have seen. I still don't know why more people know who he is than they do who Louis C.K. is even though he's stolen a few jokes from Louis.

Everyone has stolen jokes from Louis CK. It's like a running joke in the comedy community.

Now there's someone with talent.

I don't find him funny either, and I think he's very obnoxious. But it's just that he's less obnoxious than Dunham.

I do see we agree on Louis CK though, who is one of my favorite comedians, and he's extremely funny and hard-working. I might be one of the few people out there who liked Lucky Louie. On the plus side, he's doing great on Parks and Recreation right now, and FX gave him a deal for him to get his own show. If they pair that with It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, that might be the funniest hour in television.

Dane Cook is shit terrible. He just yells every 5 minutes or so, and gets the shock laugh from the people who weren't expecting it, and the shrill laughter of the girls who want in his pants.

Jeff Dunham makes me want to cry, because every puppet is merely a racial stereotype. However, apparently, people don't sue his ass for being evil and racist. But if I made the same jokes he made minus the puppet, I'd be ostracized. Note to self: Get a ******ed puppet and make ****** jokes around mentally handicapped people. They can't yell at me then!

I saw some of his stuff today and while it wasn't hilarious, it was impressive. To be able to go from one voice to another like that and with barely having his mouth open works for me. Granted I like a lot of simple comedy.

So? People find it funny so apparently he's doing something right. In wrestling, cheap heat is still heat. Cheap laughs are still laughs.

Are we really going to use this fucking argument in COMEDY now?

Yeah, he makes people laugh. So would a farting baby. Are we about to hail that baby as a comedic genius? No.

Dunham is a shit comedian. There's more to good comedy than just getting them to laugh, we're not talking about wrestling here, so let's not bring that tired argument into this.

I have to agree with the audience argument in this case. the point of comedy is to make your audience laugh, and if they're laughing, he's good.
