What Is Your Favorite Stand-Up Comedy Special?

NSL

Life's A Bitch, And Then You Mosh
Over the last few decades, we've seena number of great comedians come and go. we could sit here for days and argue who was the best, but I want to know which special was your favorite. Was it Eddie Murphy's Raw? How about Robin Williams' Live On Broadway? Maybe it's a lesser known comedian that you cane ducate us on. Let us know!

My all-time favorite, mostly because it all rings true to me, is Norman Rockwell Is Bleeding by Christopher Titus. Most people would remember him from his cancelled TV show. Some may have even seen this (toned down) special on Comedy Central. But, I've seen it numerous times on YouTube, and even saw it on Comedy Central's Secret Stash, where they show uncut comedy and movies. He tells a story of his life, and all the crazy stuff that has happened to him. From falling into a bonfire, to his mom killing her husband, to getting married to a psycho-queen, he lays it allout in the open. The way he tells the story is great, and it adds a lot to the humor in the story. They're all true stories also. Everything that he jokes about on stage, is stuff that's happened to him.

Another one that I like is Jeff Dunham's Spark Of Insanity. We've all seen it. We may not have all laughed, but we've all seen it. Dunham does some of his best ventriloquism here, and the puppets are all funny as hell during their bits. The banter between Peanut and Jose Jalapeno On A Steeck is always my favorite bits of his shows, but this whole show had me rolling.

So, is this geared just toward 1 hour specials with sub-names? If that's the case, then I'd go with Henry Rollins: Raw and Uncut. Alot of people know Henry as the singer for Black Flag and The Henry Rollins Band, but don't realize he's also very well accomplished in the field of spoken word. This special sees him cover topics such as the Trans-Siberian Express, his disgust with U2, and why he doesn't drink (in a funny manner), all while still displaying traces of hatred, and anger. Very funny, and highly recomended.

My Fave stand up comedians are Eddie Izzard and Jimmy Carr.

Eddie Izzard might be known in the US for his failed tv show ''The Ritches'' but what he does best is stand up comedy. Check out his definate article show absolutly brilliant, hes got plenty of others out as well that are completely hilarious. The way he ad libs what hes trying to say and his really great impressions of James Mason are one of a kind. Hes amazing. I recommend him to anybody wanting to see differant stand up comedy.

Jimmy Carr is an in your face style of comedian who has interactions with the audience he lets the audience take the piss out of him but gives it back better. He's a very foul mouthed and quick comedian and if you are upset by jokes about rape, pedophillia and sexism, you might be best giving him a miss. Those that are impartial to that type of joke will enjoy what he does. Again i would recommend him to anybody looking for a decent stand up comedian.

There are two Comedy Central Specials I love: like NSL said, Jeff Dunham: Spark of Insanity, & Gabriel Iglesias: Hot and Fluffy.

This ventriloquist, Jeff Dunham is one of the funniest human beings alive, in my opinion. He gives his puppets so much character, it seems like they are living, breathing things! Now, about the show.
The Spark of Insanity TV special is filmed in Washington, D.C., so of course Jeff works in some political humor.
"I stood in front of the I.R.S. building & just FLIPPED 'em off!"
-Walter
"I think some idiots must live here (in D.C.). For example: the Washington Monument. It looks nothing like the guy! It looks more like a tribute to Bill Clinton!" -Achmed the Dead Terrorist
Of course, there's also Bubba J (Stands for Junior. His brother's named Junior, Jr.), Melvin the Superhero (His nose makes him look like he snorted Viagra), Jose Jalepeno... on a STEEK, & the guy everyone loves, Peanut(he's a Woozle. Don't ask.).

The five levels of fatness according to Latino comedian Gabriel Iglesias:
  1. Big
  2. Healthy
  3. Husky
  4. Fluffy
  5. DAYUM!
Gabriel, nicknamed "Fluffy" or "Pikachu", is also one of my favorite comedians. Hot and Fluffy is filmed in Bakersfield, CA, where Iglesias got his start. He talks about many humorous experiences, like at another comedy show of his, where he jokes about the Oakland Raiders offense. He was then approached after the show by two Oakland players, who cornered him & pinned him against the wall. What happened next? According to Gabriel, they fumbled him & he got away.

Well, I havent really watched much stand up comedy in my life. But, I do love to watch The "Roast Of" specials they air on comedy central. I thought The Roast Of: Larry The Cable Guy to be absolutely hilarious. I also have saw both the roasts of Pamela Anderson and Bob Saget, both of which I found to be funny.

Some may have even seen this (toned down) special on Comedy Central. I know I am a little late onto this thread. But holy shit NSL. You rule man. Seriously, Titus is my favorite comedian of all time. I love Norman Rockwell is Bleeding, actually the first time I watched it was on the Secret Stash with my brother, and that actually started making us watch more and more comedians and getting into others.

For Titus I am stuck between Norman Rockwell is Bleeding, and his Fifth Annual End of the World Tour, which I love both a hell of a lot. I love at the end of NRiB how he talks about the dysfunctional majority in America, and how normal people are the FREAKS MAN. Lol. In The Fifth Annual End of the World Tour he jokes about English Batman, NSL I am sure that as a fan of Titus you know it. Amazingly funny.

Right behind that would have to be Jim Gaffigan's Beyond the Pale. It was done in Chicago, and his monotone voice is hilarious, but when he talks like a member of the audience, it is just too funny.

I am stuck between those three for my favorite of all time, but props to you on Christopher Titus.

Reactions: NSL
My favorite one is Daniel Tosh: Completely Serious. This guy just rips on anything and everything. He is completely random about what he talks about. A joke might start about daylight savings time and end up about teridactals (I know I speeled that wrong) with it making sense. Tosh starts the joke with broad appel and narrows it down until very few people know what he's talking about. It requires very little thought, which is why I like it. I don't watch comedians to think, I watch to get a laugh.

Another that I forgot was Joe Rogan's Belly of the Beast. It is just an entire rant on a whole crap load of things such as Anna Nicole Smith, strippers, and much more. It is from 2001 so it is a little dated but it is funny as hell.

Yet another that I just remembered is Bob Saget. Yes Danny freaking Tanner is swearing and talking dirty. It is amazing what a filthy mofo Bob Saget really is. Try finding his That Ain't Right comedy, it is truly hilarious, if you like dirty sex jokes and a few songs.

That Ain't Right is available on Youtube. "I seen it" :D

Anyways, that's probably one of the funniest specials I've ever watched. At the time, I had no idea how rauncy Saget was, except his "shit" rant in Dumb & Dumberer. Poor, poor Jared

Norman Rockwell is Bleeding is awesome. It has survived about two years on my DVR and I can still watch it any time. I think my absolute favorite though would be Bill Maher: The Decider. This is the special that got me into him in the first place. It mainly just rips on the Bush administration and well, politics in general. He can pick apart anybody in the smartest way possible and end the bit in the most immature way. This show is the reason I follow his program on HBO and why I bought Religulous.

I'll just list the comedians, I don't remember the names of all the specials.

1. George Carlin: Genius. Smart comedy that made you think, but dirty at the same time. Possibly the most brilliant comedian ever. RIP, George.

2. Sam Kinison: Hilarious! All out, in your face filthy. Some people found his screaming annoying, but he did it at just the right time. I've never laughed so hard. Too bad he only did a few specials.

3. Richard Pryor: Possibly the first black comedian to make it big, Richard broke ground. His act was sort of about race at times, but he did it well, and never insulted anyone.

4. Chris Rock: One of the most intelligent comedians around today, and filthy, too. But, he mixes it up well. Very talented man.

5. Andrew Dice Clay: Nothing but absolute filth, vulgarity, womanizing and insulting dialog, but Dice is classic. Just the amount of filth he spews is enough to make you laugh, and his nursery rhymes were classic.

Bill Hicks is my favourite stand up of all time. So much more than just a comedian and years ahead of his time. My favourite british comic is Jack Dee,if you haven't seen him and like dead pan humour I'd suggest you check him out.My favourite current US stand up is Chris Rock. Bigger and Blacker was piss funny.
