From an entertainment perspective Raw was pretty good. A lot of things stood out to me. Randy Orton was excellent with his anger against HHH and Steph. I think most people rate him pretty low on the mic but he was terrific in his delivery last night. Following that scene, the violence he exuded on Maddox was a great way to kick off the show. I sat through a whole Curtis Axel match and actually gave a crap about the IC Title for the first time in a while. The musical chairs thing was stupid but at least it didn't last long and it's nice to see Rosa Mendes back. Ryback/Big Show was entertaining and the Shell Shock felt like a gift to give it to a non-PPV audience. I like how 3MB has branched out a little, it's still lame comedy but at least it's changing. Cena's promo was fine, I fast forwarded through ADR's promo. Unlike the stupid Divas segment that didn't feel too long, the Vicki match felt like an eternity. I really did enjoy though how they brought her to the ring on the stretcher - that was pretty creative. Woods debut wasn't too much to get excited about but it's always nice to have some fresh blood. Ziggler and Sandow dragged on but had a fun payoff at the end. The main event was alright but like Ziggler and Sandow had a nice payoff at the end. I ff'd through most of the country music.

What really impressed me about Raw was how little I ff'd through it. I usually catch up to the live ending. I can usually watch the three hours in about an hour and fifteen minutes but some how last night I watched most everything. It took me almost two hours to watch the whole show. Well done creative.

I didn't bother with Survivor Series but in truth tonight's Raw felt like I caught most of it anyway with two direct rematches, two tag matches that combined two of last nights matches, and a handicap match that was last nights tag match with Bray added. On top of that there was a Ziggler vs Sandow rematch from last weeks Raw and a 6 man tag rematch from SD, so not a lot of freshness on tap tonight.

What was fresh was the brisk change in direction for the main event scene in the opening segment. I read that the crowd took a shit on Orton vs Show last night so no surprise in seeing a big Cena vs Orton match with both titles on the line being set up right off the bat. The best thing about the mic work here was Orton's nervy paranoia towards Triple H and Steph.

The raised championship title stare-down between Cena and Orton got virtually no reaction, not sure if that was because the crowd were disappointed that the match wasn't happening tonight.

The Shield vs The Rhodes and Rey was an entertaining 6 man tag with The Shield seemingly back on track with a win, Reigns hit a couple of spears that weren't quite as crisp as usual and Ambrose pinned Cody with the Bulldog-driver. I can't help but feel Cody and Goldust have lost a bit of momentum.

The Miz TV stuff with the morning show host wasn't entertaining to me but you can't like every segment, the crowd seemed to have fun with it though. I thought it was odd the way they all celebrated at the end with a "this was a demonstration" type of moment, especially as Miz has just gone heel.

I blinked and missed the tag match of Big E and Henry vs Axel and Ryback, what I do like is the potential mentor partnership they set up between the 2 faces though and the potential match-up this could lead to down the line.

Ziggler vs Sandow in another goofy weapons match seemed to lose the crowd this week, it lost me as I was only half watching it. Unsurprisingly Sandow won as WWE are a big fan of 50/50- booking and Dolph won last week.

I think it was here where they placed the dreadful Divas tag team elimination rematch that saw the three vacuous dolls win as AJ and Nattie were eliminated, much to the crowds disgust. AJ is getting cheered in most arenas and the supposed faces are getting booed, maybe it's time for a switch as the Bellas make better heels and Summer Rae is a top heel diva in the making.

The top of the second hour provided the best stuff of the night. First the Punk and Bryan promo with the lovely Renae was fun and evoked memories of oldschool promos in how it was done, and Punk was in a very hyped up mood that got the crowd going.

The handicap tag match that followed provided the best match of the night with plenty of back and forth action, and I don't think there is a better hot tag than Bryan in wrestling right now, he absolutely explodes on offense.

The match ended in a DQ but that's when things got interesting. The Wyatt's carrying off Bryan was odd enough, but when Punk tried to follow he was speared in half by Roman Reigns who appeared out of nowhere, and then triple powerbomed by The Shield, this makes Punk the final big name The Shield needed to add to their list of scalps. It really did set up two intriguing situations with both hired gun factions and the Punk & Bryan duo.

On a side note Punk briefly dissed Triple H in his promo and after Reigns speared him you could hear him say "You need to watch your mouth son" as he knelt over him, so I could see it being a case of the Wyatt's working for Steph and The Shield taking out Punk on Triple H's orders.

I can't remember exactly what happened after this point until we got to the main event. It was pretty short and focused a lot on seemingly another concussion angle, this time featuring Big Show. Cena mopped things up before getting nobbled by Orton who posed with both titles over Cena's fallen carcass, which was the right ending for the first salvo in my view.

Good show last night. Glad I didn't pay for Survivor Series as Raw pretty much replayed most of the matches. A lot of wrestling on last nights show which was a pleasant surprise. Love the title v title match for TLC but I don't think they have used the word unify or unification yet so I'm not sure if that is the case or will the winner just walk around with both belts for a bit before dropping one. I like that Punk and Bryan got split up between the Wyatt's and Shield last night. It was cool to see them together for awhile, but each guy getting to triumph over each faction will be great build for these two heading into Mania season.

Cena and Punk entertained me on the mic tonight, easily the two best promo guys on the roster.

The opening segment with Punk cutting a promo on the authority, Steph trying to insincerely butter him up and Kane being great as a middle management stooge was well done and set things in motion for both Punk's match with The Shield at TLC and a potential ongoing feud with The Authority. Punk kept plenty of powder dry for bigger verbal showdowns down the road.

Dolph vs Sandow, battle of the 50/50 guys for a shot at Big E's IC title felt kinda rushed. I was personally hoping for a no contest to set up a triple threat but Sandow provides a serviceable challenger for Big E with the potential for them to actually get to do some mic work.

Bryan vs Rowan was ok but a bit of a stretch for Rowan in my view, he lacks the mobility and skill of Harper and I thought the length of the match exposed him a bit. Bray's promo afterwards was not only very good as he tapped into some Jake Roberts, it was also intriguing as he talked about Bryan's battle he can't win (with The Authority I guess) and them tearing down the machine together, Bryan's facial reaction was unexpected.

Cena's earnest promo backstage with Renae was how I like my Cena promos, it was simple but effective and conveyed the magnitude of unifying the titles.

There was a 6 Divas tag that saw AJ get the most reaction for just tagging in and then getting pinned after spending the match skipping around the ring. I'm guessing WWE are limiting her ring time due to recent injuries.

Dolph needs to wiggle over in the doghouse because Bertie might be joining him! Ok, I have no basis for that other than that he jobbed clean to Sin Cara, who apparently was played by Hunico tonight, which explains why he didn't fall on his head or dislocate his eyebrow.

The Shield's brief promo on Punk was direct and continued the brash and cocky style that has worked for them from the start.

The Shield vs The Rhodes & Big Show was easily the best in-ring action of the night, for me The Shield are hands down this years TV match MVP's, they deliver week in and week out. Rollins picks up the win for his team by pinning Goldust, Cody once again gives an impressive showing.

Back with Renae Punk cuts a promo on his handicap match with The Shield at TLC, first he bursts into a showtune and then quietly says he knows he is going down, it's just a matter of how many members of The Shield he takes with him, good stuff!

Ryback and Axel are now a team and a great one according to JBL even though tonight was their first win. They beat Kofi and The Miz who doesn't seem to know if he's a face or a heel, and neither does Cole.

Cesaro knocking Young's head off with that glorious uppercut was a good finish to the PTP vs Real Americans match, hopefully they get a tag title shot at TLC. I also hope this was the last we see of Titus' puking gimmick.

The contract signing was pretty good, Steph putting over Triple H's greatness was a nice little touch designed to piss off some fans and their list of great Champions was selective as usual, I mean HBK was a great WHC? He had the title for about 3 weeks, but Edge and Batista got no mention despite being pretty much the definitive holders of WWE's version. Orton's promo was ok and he rode out the early boring chant. I liked how he pulled out the fans hating Cena card in an arena where they didn't hate him that much, nice heel move...or a misjudged attempt to get smarky support, I'll opt for the former. Cena then ripped him up on the mic with a shooty promo that surprised me, Cena's delivery was again on point.

The inevitable brawl was actually one of the best contract signing punch-ups I've seen and gave a nice taster of the TLC match due to all the plunder adorning the ring and ringside area. Triple H and Steph looked on with a thoughtful glare that suggested satanic mice were running around inside their villainous skulls as Cena held aloft both titles and stood smiling over Orton, who was wearing a table.

All in all a decent Raw.

Well I'm not gonna waste time slamming the Slammy's, I'm just glad WWE stopped having JBL pretend the fans votes mattered after the first hour or so. The only highlights were HBK's funny acceptance speech for double cross of the year and the New Age Outlaws bit.

For a go home show this was very lackluster in my view, there was a solid opener between Bryan and Fandango that got longer than I expected, and it was followed by a strong promo from Bray.

The next 90 minutes or so passed without anything meaningful happening. Big E spoke quietly as Sandow wrestled Santino, then they had a brief stare down. There was an 8 man tag that was decent enough but none of the guys in it are even on the card this Sunday as far as I know, so it didn't really matter.

Next came the best in-ring section of the night with a match between Punk and Ambrose. They had an excellent match on SD last week and this one equaled it, what I liked is both matches were different. Punk picked up the win again and the first major crack in The Shield appeared as Ambrose got upset at Rollins and Reigns for not attacking Punk on the outside. The post-match tease that Reigns was gonna spear Ambrose before he speared Punk was nicely played.

There was some more guff and then it was time for the big finale with the title ascension ceremony. It was odd seeing guys like Swagger, Khali and Ziggler in there with Bret and Shawn as former Champions. Triple H being drowned out by Daniel Bryan chants was amusing, he tried a smug comeback but they just booed some more.

I almost felt bad for Orton, his promo was solid but the crowd took a shit on him with the dreaded boring chant. This segment was going downhill until Cena got the mic, now the crowd emptied their ass on him as well at first, and I don't know how much of what he did was prepped, but the way he incorporated Bryan into his promo, put him over and guaranteed him a fair rematch once he won the Unified title totally swung the crowd around in his favour, and from there he launched into another scathing attack on Orton, this was Cena at his absolute best.

Now the mini brawl started and I expected it to simply end in what looked to be a standard pull-apart, but then Orton pie faced Punk and he attacked Orton, so Triple H threw Punk to the ground and Punk attacked Triple H, then HBK superkicked Punk and Bryan hit HBK with a running knee, then Orton tried to RKO Bryan but Bryan pushed him off and he crashed into Steph. It was insane! I expected Triple H to go after Bryan but instead he Pedigreed Orton and the final image of him, Cena and Kane helping Steph up as all 4 looked down at Orton who was holding his jaw was excellent. Clearly a red herring but great stuff.

So a mostly crappy Raw with one of, if not the best, final segment of the year.

i thought it was so so show. but ending was great had to rewind and rewatch it twice. i think the pedagree on orton and the end where the athority and cena looked down on orton is going somwhere just dont no where. am very exicted to c tho. hope there good speciation on hear cause i just dont no how this will go

All in all, I was pretty entertained by a lot of last night's show, which really surprised me. The Slammy Awards have never really been all that great but a LOT, in my opinion, of what makes the show one of the worst of the year was missing last night. They didn't have segment after segment of cheap, lame ass comedy, most of the awards were at least about something that actually had some degree of meaning rather than complete wastes with joke awards & categories and the presentation segments didn't drag nearly as much as they once did. While the Slammy Awards as a whole are still a waste of time that I'd rather see go away, all the Slammy stuff was still MUCH better than I expected. The winners of some of the awards pretty much give away that the fan votes don't really matter. For instance, I see no legit way that AJ Lee didn't win Diva of the Year last night.

Bryan vs. Fandango, the eight man tag match, Punk vs. Ambrose and The Wyatt Family vs. The Usos were all good, entertaining matches. Even though he lost to Miz again, Kofi's display of aggression was interesting and generated a pretty strong reaction. It was also nice to see The New Age Outlaws, Mick Foley, Bret Hart & HBK on the show.

The hot crowd was also a major factor that I think brought up last night's show. As I expected, Bryan had a pretty big night last night since they were so close to his hometown. They made Bryan one of the central attractions of last night's show and I'm sure that helped keep the crowd's interest.

The closing of the show was flat out great with all kinds of stuff going down. The crowd loved Bryan and both Cena & Orton gave great promos. When Cena is in serious mode like he was last night, and honestly like he's been for most of this year, he can deliver passionate promos with the best of 'em that turns whatever boos he receives when he comes out into cheers by the time it's over. Triple H, Punk, HBK & Bryan all briefly mixing it up was the right touch at the right time. Stephanie being knocked down by Orton, accidentally, before Trips nails him with the Pedigree and being stared at by Trips, Stephanie, Kane & Cena afterward still makes me think that there's going to be some sort of alliance with Cena. Cena's had nothing but good things to say about The Authority personally, aside from their actions of screwing Bryan over. At any rate, a strong, energetic ending.

I'd honestly give last night's show a B. Maybe part of it was my surprise, pleasantly so, that a lot of what drags these shows down simply wasn't there last night.

Good show with a great end spot. Great camera work by WWE yet again with Shaw's superkick. Shawn was out of the shot and all of a sudden first you see his leg go up and connect on Punk before Shawn fully enters the shot. I literally jumped out of my seat after seeing that and remained on my feet for the remainder of the segment. The end shot with Cena and The Authority looking down on Orton just came off awesome and slightly unsettling. For as much as people (including myself) call for a Cena turn, last night was probably the closest looking thing to a turn we will get and while it looked great, something felt wired with Cena standing beside The Authority.

WWE really messed up by having The Bellas win Diva's of the Year and the crowd let them have it. What made it worse is that for all the time The Bella's have been in the WWE, they handled the moment poorly and made it really awkward. They did the same thing when AJ delievered her promo on the Total Divas a few months back. They just don't know how to react to situations and it comes off really bad.

I remember back in the early 90's when Grunge music was all the rage and Seattle had this identity of being the counter culture Mecca of the time. They embraced their high annual rainfall, cloudiness, and high depression rates as a badge of honor to be different and unique. Wow have times changed. I don't know what did it but I'm sure losing the Supersonics and wanting to break away from Singles, flannel, and the melancholy of their parents and selves has made this Seattle one of a passion for sports. Between the Sounders, Seahawks, neon aquamarine, and now Daniel Bryan that town has embraced sporting competition and the ones who represent them. I'm jealous, I can't get even that excited about sex.

So-so Raw this week. I never enjoy the Slammys. The crowd, HBK, and final segment made it worth it. T

Sidenote: This might get me thrown in WZ prison but last night's MVP was Mark Henry. He was the only one who could figure out how to get the fans to calm down during HHH's promo.

I also noticed Mark Henry and was quite pleased with that simple, yet effective action lol. As far as the show yea the slammy's are bleh but there were definitely high points. Holy balls I didn't know where they were at first and I expected that to be a North east crowd when I heard how hot they were, good on you Seattle, good on you. I very much liked the end it put the spotlight on the right people. You had 20-25 people in the ring and high probability for a clusterfuck but they did a good job of keeping focus off people like khali, getting the non performing hall of famers to safety quickly and quietly, keeping guys like henry who should have an impact in that scenario neutral and then playing up the main story line while putting someone like punk who has been purposely separated from the championships for so long right back in that spotlight seamlessly. It's was one beautifully put together segment.

Am I really the only one who was not impressed with Raw? For fuck sake it was a slammy episode. Everyone jizzing over the ending when that shit was so fucking cliche.

Once I saw Steph in the ring. I knew she was gonna get "assualted" by Randy, Triple H attacks Orton, while John is helping Steph and whoever is around, just like they've been teasing ever since the ending of Survivor Series.

How about an actual surprise for a go home show. How many times has go home show ended in a brawl between the two guys fighting for the title.

If this entertained you, your are easily amused and should consider watching Yo Gabba Gabba or something of that genre

Very good ending. The rest of the show was boring and painful as usual. Way too much filler. But very good ending. Bryan and Punk still seem like the biggest stars on the show, even if they're not in the top spots. They seem to get the biggest reactions from the live crowd.

Who were the guys at the end who have held both WWE and World Heavy Weight Championships?
Bret Hart (if you count WCW, which WWE seems to do with this angle)
Shawn Michaels
Triple H
John Cena
Randy Orton
CM Punk
Daniel Bryan
Anyone, I missed?

I enjoyed Raw tonight, plenty of good tag team wrestling, an unexpected segment between Punk and HBK, and a fantastic main event.

The opening segment featured a strong promo from Orton and then Cena took over goading Orton and getting The Authority to make Bryan vs Orton as the main event. Some probably wont be happy that Cena spoke for Bryan but I think they are setting up a 3 way feud. I'm also intrigued by the way they are booking Orton's relationship with The Authority, it's certainly a break from the usual formula which is good to see.

I'm probably in the minority but I like the Rey and Big Show team, I think it's a perfect way to use both guys at this juncture, the match between them and The Rhodes was really good and their win puts them amongst several teams vying for the next title shot.

Dolph vs Fandango was Dolph's turn to win as he lost the night before, what was more interesting was Cole's comments and the possible beginning of an angle that sees Dolph trying to get out of his funk. I know some here don't like him but he remains pretty over for a guy who's had no storyline for months and mostly loses.

I think Bad News Barrett popped up around this point, I can't remember what he said but I just don't see this getting over.

Next up was another good tag team match as Big E & Mark Henry took on The Real Americans. This was a physical match with the IC champ and the #1 wig splitter picking up the win. I can see these two having a few matches and trading wins as the tag division continues to develop.

CM Punk came out to have a 6 man tag with The Shield but first cut a promo on The Authority, or as he said, more specifically Triple H, calling out the COO so they could lay their cards on the table, Punk had the crowd eating out of the palm of his hand. In what I thought was a big surprise HBK's music hits and he comes out to talk to Punk. I admit I marked out for this segment as Punk and HBK are my two all time favourite wrestlers.

Shawn said he relates to Punk's anti authority stance and that he's always liked him, but wants to know why Punk is wanting to go at Triple H when it was him that Superkicked him. Punk says the 15 year old in him is stoked that HBK Superkicked him and that because he respects Shawn so much he's giving him a pass but wont if it happens again. There were a couple of great moments here where Punk and HBK stopped the crowds chants with quick lines, and it was electric as they stood face to face and the crowd chanted "One more match."

Shawn then brought out The Shield and the King reveals that the Usos won the fan poll to be Punk's partners with an impressive 47% of the votes. The 6 man tag that follows was another good match with a neat finishing sequence that saw Punk hit Ambrose with the GTS but get blindsided with a spear from Reigns who pinned him for the win.

Rybaxel vs Tonnes Funk happened around here, the main thing about the match was the completion of the Brodus heel turn, not sure I see him getting far as a singles wrestler but who knows.

AJ, Tamina & Alicia Fox vs Nattie & the Bellas was a decent 6 Divas tag that saw Tamina and Brie do the bulk of the work. While I can't stand either of the Bella's it's clear Brie has improved quite a bit in the ring. AJ continues her post-Beadle career by picking up another win with the Shining Wizard on Nikki after Tamina blasted her with a Superkick that looked like it accidentally caught her flush.

Bryan vs Orton was a brilliant main event and their best match to date. Intense, physical work from both guys with Bryan selling his arm like it was about to drop off and Orton carrying an air of ruthless desperation throughout. The match built to a fever pitch with a red hot crowd as Bryan looked to be closing in on the win when Orton low blowed him for the DQ. Cena runs out to make the save before eating an RKO. Orton poses on his knees with both belts as both faces lay prone. I hope this was the set up for Orton vs Bryan vs Cena for the title at the Rumble.

Finally the match we wanted...a Triple Threat...I mean if Bryan can't win the Rumble (which he should have been the only logical one) then he should be in the title picture. Hopefully a screwy finish for the titles at RR and then another triple threat, or maybe even a four way at WM with Punk added, DB finally winning..They have to give him the belt some time.

A good RAW to a good PPV.

When you thought that a handicapped match was a bad idea, it turned out pretty good in the TLC PPV, both of them -- The Shield vs. C.M Punk & Daniel Bryan vs. The Wyatt Family. John Cena vs. Randy Orton match lived up to the expectation as well. Even the divas, A.J. and Natalya give us a good in-ring performance.

As for RAW, it was the same quality matches from the PPV, except no title matches or anything. The Big Show tagged with Ray Mysterio, and single-handedly took out the Rhode Brothers, well almost single-handedly... Daniel Bryan turned the match around as the match dragged on to become an endurance match. Randy Orton, like John Cena said of him took the easy way out, and disqualified himself by giving Daniel Bryan a low blow at the last minutes of the match.

The tag-team division has grown over the last year, and the Usos have improved tremendously along with it with the new teams and competition. WWE is getting back on track.

Wrestling Wise; it was a great RAW.
However, there was not a single telling advancement in the Storylines.
Did we know CM Punk blamed HHH for his Ambush and Handicap match v the Shield? Yes, even without his promo yesterday.
How did the Shield go from imminent break-up to Ambrose kissing Reigns on the forehead? Puzzles me.
How can Daniel Bryan treat the Handicap match vs the Wyatts as though it never happened? Is it a one-sided feud, perhaps...D-Bry wasn't even showing any slight acknowledgement that anything ever happened between them.
Following on from above; so D-Bry is apparently back in the Main Event scene somewhat, but for how long before the Wyatts return with their offer for Bryan to join them?

Apart from the CM Punk vs HHH possibility, all of the others are stories that can be concluded by Royal Rumble being dragged for no apparent reason other than to curb my renewed enthusiasm since the announcement of the Title Unification and the ambushes of Punk and Bryan.

Wow so the big plan was to use Bryans popularity and try to push it on Cena. This is exactly how they will set up the rumoured WM match between Cena and Wyatt.
Instead of creating a new star in Daniel Bryan who could have gone over Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania, a bigger obstacle than Randy Orton to D Bryan's dream, he is a glorified damsel in distress that John Cena will save from the evil Waytts.
When I saw HHH shake Lesnar's hand I immediately thought Daniel Bryan will now have the ultimate opponent who is endorsed by the Authority for a huge Mania moment. When Raw ended, it just proved Vince doesn't even care to create a new star and will rely on John Cena till he is dead.
If Mania is all about Cena saving Bryan from the Wyatts I will not be ordering and while WWE may not care, the result will be another 'New Generation' era where after Hogan went WWF was lost and close to going out of business. They better hope there will be a new Stone Cold to get them out of it...

Loved that ending tonight! Didn't expect that to be happening anymore after TLC came and went. Great ending, and now looking on with anticipation to see what is in store for both Daniel Bryan and the Wyatts going into Royal Rumble and beyond!

If D-Bry is to take on "the Machine"(the Authority,I assume), then this sort of help is better than having John Cena do the Big Brother role(and I am a Cena fan).

Loved RAW today.
Even the Shield's break-up was teased again.
Only disappointment was when Brodus beat R-truth to a pulp and still lost yet again, the same way he did at TLC....Would be an effective Monster Heel for the Mid-Card,that Brodus Clay(lMO).
And not to forget, the Return of the Beast! Will he really go after the WWE World Heavyweight title? Another story to look forward to.

The ROAD to WRESTLEMANIA has truly begun,my Friends!

I sure hope against hope that you are not right in this. That idea also crossed my mind in light of the Cena v Wyatt rumours going around.
Hopefully, WWE won't be so stupid as to use Daniel Bryan as an after thought at Wrestlemania.
I also thought immediately, Lesnar vs Bryan as a possibility.
Hopefully, Daniel Bryan uses the Wyatts as unlikely allies in his quest for the Main Event Gold....hopefully,fingers crossed.

I like your thinking. What if Bryan is using the Wyatts to help him win the Royal Rumble and turn on them afterwards. I just hope they haven't turned the most over face into Windham's lackey.

Despite not liking the potential for Bryan's push to fade away, I thought it was a stellar Raw... and that's without some of the biggest members of the roster. Next week should be good.

Just a quick mention that I thought the Christmas Raw was pretty good fun and the two 6 man tags on it were very good.

Tonight started off great, Punk's promo was excellent, needling and trying to divide The Shield by playing to their individual egos and thus neutralizing their greatest asset which has been their unity.

The match between Punk and Rollins was excellent and marked a second fantastic outing for Rollins against a top guy after his superb match with Cena on Smackdown last week.

Steph's announcement of Orton vs Cena as the World title match at the Rumble at least means that match will almost certainly not headline Mania.

Big E vs Fandango was pretty good, I thought Fandango did a great job in a '92 HBK vs Bulldog type of role.

Ziggler vs Axel was ok, this story of Dolph's determination to refocus may be the start of a new push, or not.

There was a lot of crap from here until Triple H came out and announced the return of Brock Lesnar. Heyman's promo pretty much killed any hope of a Punk vs Lesnar rematch (or was that a misdirect?) and revealed that Brock is gonna face the winner of Cena vs Orton because he wants to. I was hoping he was gonna be in the Rumble.

The brawl between Brock and Henry was impressive, Brock's mix of agility and brute force is unmatched, not sure about that high pitched shriek though.

More filler and then it was time for the gauntlet match. Bryan vs Harper was excellent and I'm really interested to see what WWE do with Harper as I think he can be more than just Bray's heavy. The following 2 matches were nothing much, in fact I'm curious if WWE are limiting Bray's match time to try and sustain a mystique or because they aren't confident in letting him wrestle longer than a few minutes.

As for the aftermath, I didn't like it, if Bryan is sucking them in and this plays out with Bryan swerving Bray to win the Rumble then cool, but if this is gonna be something where Bryan follows Bray for months before being saved by Cena then I'll be disappointed.

Thumbs Up

Opening Segment - CM Punk's opening segment with The Shield played out nicely, moving the eventual break up of the group closer. Is it something of a hackneyed tactic? Sure it is, but it works well in pro wrestling storylines because everyone has an ego. As JBL & Lawler pointed out, just as any number of veterans doing interviews have said, that part of being a success us conveying to the fans that you're the best. Even the closest knit groups, especially those as successful as The Shield, allow their own personal sense of pride to get in the way of logic sometimes. Hell, people around the world do it everyday in real life, so why should pro wrestling be any different?

CM Punk vs. Seth Rollins - A strong opening match that went off very well, except for a few minor sloppy moments in the first several minutes. Rollins & Punk were able to find their rhythm quickly enough, however, and put on a great match. To me, it wasn't as good as Cena vs. Rollins this past Friday on SmackDown! as that match had the surprise factor going for it. I don't think people really expected Rollins to have as strong of a showing against Cena as he did, so a similarly strong showing against Punk was expected. Both wrestlers got in a lot of offense and Rollins, again, had a strong singles showing. The story played out nicely with The Shield really sort of getting in each other's way here, namely Ambrose's own sense of frustration getting the better of him at times, and it was played up as though it may have cost Rollins the victory, albeit with some very minor interference. The match comes to a close with Rollins attempting a sunset flip over the top, only for Punk to catch him on his shoulders and deliver the GTS for the win about the 18 minute mark. ***1/2

Announcement & Video Presentation - I had an idea that Stephanie was going to announce Orton vs. Cena at the Rumble and I like the hype that was put into it. The notion of having this match only being won via pinfall or submission sets up a means of interference, despite what Stephanie said, so Orton can retain. The video package highlighting some of Orton's brightest moments was extremely well done. WWE's production team doesn't get enough credit for how good these video packages are. I do wish that the various authority figures would save the hollow felicitations and interests in wishing the fans happy holidays and all that though.

Old School Raw Hype - It's all but confirmed that Ric Flair will be at Old School Raw next week. Old School Raw can be a lot of fun and with next week's show also being the first Raw of 2014, it should be a hot show.

Big E. Langston vs. Fandango for the WWE Intercontinental Championship - This was a much better match than I was expecting and this is probably the best Fandango has looked in a good 6 months. Frankly, I expected Fandango to basically dive into his gimmick, clown it up a bit, and ultimately wind up eating defeat after what amounted to a drawn out, 5 minute squash match. Fortunately, that didn't happen as Fandango got in a lot of offense and his focus was on wrestling the match and trying win the IC title rather than hamming it up in character. Big E. has come a long way since the early days of being Ziggler's heavy and he continues to look good in his matches. They're portraying Langston as a powerhouse, but not as this invincible black Superman who steamrolls over everyone. Fandango hits his finisher, the leg drop from the top, and Langston rolls out of the ring to prevent the count. I thought that was a very nice touch rather than just have Langston power out of the move. Langston isn't a big enough star, in my eyes, so that he can just eat the finisher of an opponent that's giving him a hard match and just power out. Langston eventually rallies for a comeback and hits the Big Ending to retain the title a little before the 13.5 minute mark. ***

Brock Lesnar & Mark Henry - Triple H's big announcement came about the top of the 10 pm hour and he introduced the return of Brock Lesnar. I liked that they kept the tension between Trips & Lesnar there and that they didn't have them be all buddy buddy considering that Lesnar "broke" Triple H's arm twice. Heyman did much of the talking for Lesnar and ultimately declared Lesnar as the #1 contender for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. He also declared that being the champ is the reason that Lesnar was WWE rather than settling old scores. Lesnar got on the mic and he stumbled a little, promos were never his strong suit, but he ultimately did fine. He essentially dared anyone in the locker room who felt he shouldn't be #1 contender to step up and say otherwise. Eventually, Mark Henry's music hits and Henry comes out. They have a bit of a stare down makes his way to the ring. Henry is about to enter the ropes when Lesnar kicks him, sending him to the floor. Lesnar gets in a few shots before Henry gets in a few of his own before tossing Lesnar over the railing. Henry climbs over the railing but Lesnar wraps his arms around Henry's waist and charges him backwards through the security railing. Henry sells the effects while Lesnar screams like a caveman, he does look like some Cro-Magnon lookin' S.O.B., before he hoists Henry up onto his shoulders and delivers an F5 on the floor. An impactful return that also probably gives Lesnar an opponent for the Royal Rumble.

Daniel Bryan vs. Luke Harper - Another strong match between these two. Luke Harper continues to impress me as a big guy. His scary hillbilly appearance coupled with his strange facial features help tell a good story. It was a good formula match with Bryan as the scrappy, fearless smaller guy against the big powerhouse. Both guys got in a lot of offense and Bryan took a lot of big bumps for Harper, especially the powerbomb off the turnbuckle. Harper powering out of the Yes Lock was a nice touch. Even though Harper has lost to Bryan & Punk in singles matches, he continuously looks strong and scored several believable near falls on Bryan. At the end, Harper attempts a belly to back throw with Bryan landing on his feet before hitting the big running knee for the win a little after the 15 minute mark. ***1/2

Daniel Bryan vs. Erick Rowan - While this match wasn't as good, due partially to being much shorter and Rowan not being as good as Harper, it played its part nicely in the story being told. Bryan had been through a tough fight with Harper, naturally he's winded and "hurt", so they had Rowan look dominant. Bryan wound up scoring the win via a small package around the 7 minute mark. **1/2

Daniel Bryan's Conversion - Bryan never got to get his hands on Wyatt as Harper & Rowan jumped him, beating him down for a bit before Wyatt gets in the ring. He screams at Bryan while doing his manic bit, turning his back on Bryan and seemingly giving him a free shot. As Bryan moves to attack, Harper & Rowan attack again and proceed beat Bryan down more, culminated eventually with a big double chokeslam. Wyatt gets on the mic denouncing Bryan for a bit before Bryan responds "You're right". Wyatt has him say it again a few times on the mic before Bryan addresses him. Bryan says that no matter how hard he fights, no matter how much the people cheer or him, "the machine" won't allow him to win. He asks to join the Family, crawl to Wyatt, kneeling and holding his arm out. Wyatt delivers Sister Abigail's Kiss and instructs Harper & Rowan to bring Bryan out with them. Bryan eventually starts to walk on his own, stumbling and selling the effects of his matches and beating. The people are chanting "No!" an Bryan turns towards the crowd and starts to hulk up a bit before lowering his head and shaking his head, walking behind Wyatt. Great storytelling here and I'm curious to see where this goes. I can't say I'm totally sold on it yet because I'll have to see the follow up.

Thumbs In The Middle

Dolph Ziggler vs. Curtis Axel - Pretty solid 5 minute match that had some good offense from both guys. Nothing really to write home about with Ziggler scoring the win with the Zig Zag. **1/4

Damien Sandow vs. The Great Khali - I enjoyed this match only because Sandow won it. It wasn't a pretty match, but Sandow controlled most of it and kept Khali on his back for much of it. I liked that Sandow used logic in his offense, namely doing what he could to keep the bigger & stronger man off his feet. The end comes about the 5 minute mark with Sandow rolling Khali up. It was sloppy, as Khali's shoulder was clearly up, but it wasn't as horrible of a match as I was expecting. **

Diva Tag Team Match - Like with Sandow vs. Khali, this wasn't great. However, it was more than I was expecting. The Diva Division still has too many women on television who can't wrestle, hence they shouldn't be on television. Fortunately, Anna Marie & Rosa were very minimal in the match. The rest of the Divas were pretty decent. The biggest surprise was seeing Aksana score the clean pin for her team by pinning Nikki Bella. **1/4

Thumbs Down

R-Truth vs. Brodus Clay - Just nothing here worth mentioning as it's basically the story of a chubby guy hating guys who dance better than he does. *

Final Thoughts

It's been a while since I've done a review and I didn't have high hopes for this show after the promo hype of Big Show in a diaper dancing. I thought this would be a throwaway holiday episode of Raw, but it most certainly wasn't. Raw finished 2013 on a high note with a newsworthy show that had a lot of interesting developments, strong wrestling content and storyline progression. Punk vs. Rollins, Langston vs. Fandango and Bryan vs. Harper were the best matches on the card while even most of the filler matches were okay, more or less. Brock Lesnar's return was impactful but the story of the night is Bryan joining The Wyatt Family. The follow up is going to make or break this and I hope that Bryan's character doesn't become some mindless drone.

Grade: A-

Agreed with some, don't agree with some...

First, Seth Rollins vs CM Punk match wasn't good, Seth Rollins vs John Cena match was superb however! That was like 2 grades better, can't really compare the two matches.

Second, don't like the way they use Mark Henry. We all know how tough he was, returning from a vacation doesn't change that, or maybe it could... When he accepts a challenge like that, he knows what he's getting into. It would take more than just a ram though the barricade to knock him out before Brock Lesnar puts him on the F5. Moreover, there's a big pause in between which makes it even more unrealistic. They could have a great match, and it could've served the same purpose.
