Monday Night Raw
Date: November 15, 2010
Location: Giant Center, Hershey, Pennsylvania
Commentators: Jerry Lawler, Michael Cole

Well it’s the go home show for Survivor Series but it’s also a three hour Old School Raw. This is basically another chance to run out the old guys again while no one really wants to see them again but we’re going to do it anyway just because. This isn’t anything I particularly want to see but we’re getting three hours of it. Oh and there are three matches set for Survivor Series. Let’s get to it.

The main appeal here is the chance of the return of the Warrior. Yes that Warrior.

They open with the WWF logo and the word Federation scratched out and Entertainment under it. We get the OLD SCHOOL Raw intro with the 93 music but modern highlights. They even have the old banners and graphics. This could be awesome.

EVERYTHING is old school here with the red white and blue ropes, the standard guardrails, and here’s Gene Okerlund to do the interviews from a PLATFORM!

Gene brings out Bob Orton who says Randy isn’t here yet. I’m marking out like a bitch here. Orton rambles on about not caring for Cena at all and how Orton is going to win this Sunday. Before he finishes here’s Barrett. Big RAW letter set too. Barrett says he didn’t get anything from the Old School and got here himself. After some more stuff from Barrett, here’s Miz with Riley who is in the old Raw is War shirt.

Miz gets on Barrett for no apparent reason. He says he might cash in tonight which he hasn’t said in awhile. If he does, Cena would be in Nexus forever. Cena pops up on the screen and says he’s going to stop Miz from cashing in because if he’s on the line Sunday he’s going to do it Sunday. Cena says tonight he’s protecting Barrett tonight by challenging Miz to a match which he accepts.

Dolph Ziggler vs. Mark Henry

We get an inset promo from Ziggler saying he was ripped off last time he was…..IT’S SEXUAL CHOCOLATE!!! I hated that gimmick but I’m loving this already. The ring looks GREAT and we have the bowtie referees. Lawler compares Henry to Bruno Sammartino. Let that sink in a bit. Henry looks at Vickie with those googly eyes. It’s a standard big man vs. smaller man here.

The fans chant chocolate which is a weird one indeed. Oh and Ziggler compared him and Vickie to Macho and Liz. So one will die and the other will be banished? Henry gets a powerslam for two. The splash misses though as I guess some things never change. A short range Fameasser (called the Zig Zag because Cole is a very stupid man) gets two. The REAL Zig Zag only gets two as well. Ziggler runs up behind him and gets a very bad sleeper to end it.

Rating: C-. After I got over the shock of Sexual Chocolate (well it is in Hershey after all) I saw a decent match here but you can really see how limited Henry is. He more or less stood there while Ziggler did 90% of the work. At least Andre moved. Henry just stood there and jumped a bit on the splash. Decent match though and it keeps Ziggler looking strong so it has that going for it.

The Hart Dynasty come to the ring in old school Wrestlemania shirts but are stopped by Tony Atlas who I can barely understand. He has a can of WD40 which he sprays on his arms and literally doesn’t stop talking for about a minute and a half, including talking about potato salad.

Back from a break and he’s still talking, this time about taking someone’s daughter out while Yoshi Tatsu is standing beside him and pretends to stab himself. Funny stuff.

Heath Slater/Justin Gabriel vs. Hart Dynasty

Gabriel vs. Smith to start us off here. Smith stays in there far longer than he should be and walks into a forearm from Slater for his troubles. I love these referee shirts with the bowties too. The crowd chants Nexus Sucks. Smith goes for the tag and gets kicked in the head by Kidd to break up the team. 450 ends it. This was like two minutes long so no rating. Kidd was never in the ring.

Gene is in the back and talks to the Ortons. Truth comes up in an old Survivor Series shirt. He says that Cena is going to screw him over at the PPV. Orton says he won’t be able to screw him over if he punts Cena in the head tonight.

UPDATE WITH GENE OKERLUND!

This is brought to you by WWEshop.com which has all kind of old school PPV shirts. I’m drooling. What was actually updated there?

Justin Roberts introduces HOWARD FINKLE! That voice is just awesome. He brings out Harvey Whippleman and the Brooklyn “I take Pat Patterson up the ass” Brawler. Brawler issues an open challenge.

Brooklyn Brawler vs. Ezekiel Jackson

Norcal called this one. Oh do I need to explain this one? Cole says it’s 2011. Do you see why I can’t stand this guy?

Otunga talks to the Nexus and says he’s the leader. Cue Barrett of course and we’re going to get Otunga vs. Truth tonight in a pro vs. rookie match. As they’re talking we get an e-mail. King is in old school clothes tonight too. Otunga isn’t fighting Truth apparently as he has a special match later. Barrett gets Truth instead. Cena comes in and says nothing to note. Harris and McGillicutty are assigned to protect him.

We open a commercial with an ad for Smackdown and close it with an ad for Smackdown. Nice to see them covering it, but damn man they’ve been on Syfy for how long now? It’s not new anymore.

John Cena vs. The Miz

Cena puts his hat on a kid and the kid is about to cry. That’s awesome. Miz says since the GM never sanctioned this match so Riley is in this instead.

John Cena vs. Alex Riley

Ok then. Cole corrects the year thing from earlier on. Cena of course toys with Riley because he’s John Cena and he’s against Alex Riley. Cole tries to force the A-Bomb From A-Ri line to get over and it continues to fail. Riley isn’t much in the ring at all. He hits something that we don’t see because we’re looking at Miz instead. Riley gets in some basic offense but the FU and STF end this easily.

Rating: C. It wasn’t a squash but there was no real point to this other than for Cena to look awesome and set up the showdown that comes after the match, which we’ll get to now.

Miz comes in and here’s Orton to fight him. McGillicutty and Harris come out and jump Orton who clears the ring other than Cena. Cena punches him and suits/referees come out for the save. An E-Mail says tonight it’s PIPER’S PIT with Cena and Orton.

After a break Sheik and Volkoff are in the ring and it’s singing time. Santino and Kozlov interrupt. Kozlov wants to sing with Volkoff. Nikolai looks BAD. Santino says he wants to sing something and needs some help with it. Cue SLICK to sing Jive Soul Bro. After Sheik does his usual thing (including having his mic cut thank goodness) it’s time for a #1 contenders match.

Usos vs. Vladimir Kozlov/Santino Marella

Snuka is in the Usos corner. Apparently Sheik started dropping F Bombs. That’s awesome. We come back from a break with the match already having started. More or less the faces are a lock to win this. Kozlov hits a fallaway slam on an Uso as this is one sided so far. This is an awkward match with weird mat stuff for the most part. The heels double team Kozlov for two.

One of the Usos gets the Russian in a front facelock and the look on his face is just awesome. Vlad gets a backdrop from his knees. That’s pretty awesome. Santino Canaditalians up, hitting his diving headbutt for two. Santino and one of the Usos fuck up something and the Cobra ends it.

Rating: D+. Awkward match that was never in doubt but I think this could work pretty well for the whole tag title scene. They’re a regular team so why not give them a chance at the titles? The match was nothing special in the slightest but this was ok for the most part. Snuka was completely worthless here mind you.

Post match Sheamus comes out and beats up everyone in sight but here’s Morrison. He says that he’s doing this because Sheamus is a bully and bullies will leave when stood up to. Sheamus actually leaves.

Kofi Kingston vs. David Otunga

Well nice to see Kofi getting some direction for a change. Yep no more random matches for him. In another inset interview he says he’ll be flying like Koko B. Ware. After some basic stuff, George Freaking Steele wanders down to ringside. He just kind of gets in the ring and eats a turnbuckle. Kofi sends Otunga into the exposed buckle and Trouble in Paradise ends it. No rating again as the vast majority of this was Steele, making it cool.

In the back Arn Anderson and Gerry Brisco are talking to Morrison but he gets his head kicked in by Sheamus. The match is made for Survivor Series. Shame there isn’t some team competition they could be in there instead.

Aksana is walking around with the Million Dollar Title but Duggan walks us with the flag attached to his 2x4 and gets on her for stealing his USA gimmick. Apparently her mom is here. It’s Dusty Rhodes in a wig. He shouts to Kelly who drops a net on her. Goldust comes up and wants the title back.

He gives it to the original owner: Ted DiBiase Senior who is with IRS. He hands it off to his son who doesn’t want it. Goldust stands next to them and Dashing Cody Rhodes is there. Goldust wants grooming tips but Cody says not to breathe on him. Goldust: Oh come on and help a brother out!

Dusty, still in the wig, says he has some weird kids. Now hit his music! American Dream starts playing as Dusty, still the wig, dances along with Kelly, Aksana who still has the damn net over her, IRS, Ted, TATANKA in full costume and Duggan. Simmons pops up to say DAMN. This was greatness.

I usually don’t mention LD lines but IC just had a gem. “WWE extended an invitation to Owen Hart tonight. He’ll try to drop in.” IC and I will be headlining hell later this year.

ALFRED HAYES’ VOICE DOES THE VOICEOVER! WHICH IS IMPRESSIVE SINCE HE’S DEAD!

R-Truth vs. Wade Barrett

Eve is gorgeous and incredibly sexy but she flat out cannot dance. Truth dominates to start and hits a big dive over the top to the floor. Barrett hits a Boss Man Slam to take over again. He adds a top rope elbow for two. This is a rather short match as Truth misses the Axe Kick and gets out of Wasteland before the regular Wasteland hits for the pin. Somehow this was 5-6 minutes. There just wasn’t anything to say besides that.

Rating: D+. The match wasn’t bad but it’s the definition of forgettable. I don’t remember much of anything in this other than a little bit here and there. That’s not something terrible as not every match is going to be a classic, but I would expect to remember something about a match. Barrett won clean though which gives him some momentum for Sunday. At least there’s that.

They do the intro again for the third hour as they did for the second hour too. That’s old school for the most part.

Alberto’s ring announcer sets up his intro but TITO SANTANA does his intro instead. Chavo Classic is driving the car and apparently is going to captain a Survivor Series team! Oh man I’m in Heaven here.

Alberto runs down fat Americans and here’s the SARGE! He wants a match RIGHT NOW.

Alberto Del Rio vs. Sgt. Slaughter

Slaughter is very bald. Cobra Clutch goes on and gets him nowhere. Alberto kicks him very hard in some very skinny legs but Sarge gets the Clutch again and again it fails. The running enziguri ends this quickly. No rating once again. Alberto gets the armbar post match but here’s MVP for the save. Cole says this isn’t Alberto’s show. Well it isn’t MVP’s either.

Same WWEshop thing from earlier.

Clip of the Mania tickets going on sale.

Gene is with Mae Young. Oh sweet merciful crap no. She’s in wrestling gear too. The Bellas bring her out. We get a highlight reel of Mae Young who is 87 years old. The Moolah and Mae with Gene and Bobby at Mania XX is still hilarious. Laycool comes out to run down Mae of course. They talk about adult diapers etc.

She wants a match with these ****s. WOW. She wants it to be No DQ and calls them little bitches. MAE YOUNG IS AWESOME. It’s falls count anywhere too. Here are all the Divas. The other girls, mainly Natalya, beats up Layla and Mae puts her foot on her for the pin after a BIG slap. Ok that I can live with as a match.

Fink brings out JIM ROSS FOR THE NEXT MATCH! Jim won’t talk to Cole. Awesomeness.

Daniel Bryan vs. Jack Swagger

Swagger is in something at Survivor Series apparently. Cole keeps trying to get under Ross’ skin and he keeps ignoring him. Obviously the main point here is JR who is his usual old self. Cole can’t get Ross’ attention and it’s cracking me up as Ross is calling this straight. Ross hasn’t lost a step at all. Him and Lawler on Raw is just RIGHT.

We go to a break with Bryan on the floor as I haven’t paid a bit of attention to the actual wrestling. Back with Swagger dominating as Ross talks about Bryan. This is what we’ve been missing on commentary: making matches seem important. Ross is SELLING this. You couple that with Cole cracking me up and this is awesome.

Bryan makes his big comeback, hitting a running knee from the apron and then a dropkick off the top. I haven’t talked about it enough but the match has been awesome. Swagger gets the Vader Bomb for two. LeBell Lock is countered but Swagger goes for the gutwrench but it gets countered into a BIG kick to the head for the pin. Cole stands up and applauds it being over.

Rating: B. This was a very solid match actually. Swagger can still go in the ring but he just doesn’t need to be in the world title scene so thankfully he’s done with that. Him in the midcard/upper midcard works FAR better for him. He just didn’t have enough seasoning but this worked. I was impressed here and it was rather entertaining.

Post match Ted DiBiase comes out and beats up Bryan, hitting Dream Street. I can work with this. He gets the title and drapes it over Bryan’s chest.

We run down the card and we’re going to get a Survivor Series match with Rey as a captain with MVP, Chris Masters, Kofi Kingston and Big Show vs. Alberto Del Rio as captain with Tyler Reks, Drew McIntyre, Cody Rhodes and Jack Swagger. This works very well for me and will DEFINITELY flesh out the card somewhat.

Ross hits Cole with his hat as he leaves in a funny bit.

They bring out the legends one more time.

Here’s Roddy Piper. He runs down all the things he’s done over the years which are all pretty cool. Piper has lost a ton of weight and looks far better than he did before. Cena comes out and Piper talks about being hurt that he’s never been WWE Champion. He lists off some people that never got the title and tells Cena that if he hands the title to Barrett Sunday then he’ll be spitting in the face of every legend he says he respects.

This promo is actually very good. Piper always was a great talker. Cena talks about how he wants to respect the legends because they were his heroes. This is great stuff. Cena says he’s tired of the free or fired stuff because if he has to hand over the championship then the freedom means nothing. He’s going to call it right down the middle on Sunday.

Here’s Barrett, Nexus shirt over his shoulder. Barrett says if he doesn’t win then it’s all over on Sunday. Piper gets in Barrett’s face and yells at him that even if he has the title on Sunday he won’t be a champion but rather just a joke. Barrett asks Piper who he thinks he is.

Barrett says tonight is Cena’s last night with the Nexus on Raw and it might be his final Raw ever. He holds up the Nexus shirt to Cena and says put it on. It goes on to a nice heel reaction. Cena says after the match Sunday he’s going to end Barrett. Barrett says once the match ends then Nexus can take him out.

Here’s Orton who says he could kick Cena in the head tonight and end this. Cena asks what’s stopping him. Orton spins around and blasts Barrett then sets up for the RKO but Cena stands in his way to HUGE boos. RKO to Cena instead and it appears to be punting time. Barrett gets up and Orton tosses him. He goes for the Punt but Cena gets up and hits an FU on him. Barrett says to raise his hands but Cena hits an FU on him too and throws down the shirt, leaving to his own music.

Overall Rating
: A. This show was about having old school guys there and having fun. This show hit that on all cylinders. The wrestling was barely memorable but that’s just fine here. This wasn’t supposed to be a great wrestling show and it wasn’t, but the Bryan/Swagger match was good. The PPV card is fleshed out now and everything seems to be getting better. I was incredibly entertained by tonight’s show and it was definitely a success on all fronts.

This was a fun old school episode of Raw tonight. I thought that we would just see the same basic Raw set up with a few legends, I didn't think they would turn everything old school. I loved every minute of it. The ring and the entrance ramp and music really brought back great memories. Seeing the wrestlers make vignettes on the top right hand corner of the screen before their matches was great too. I wish they continued to do that.

Next week it will be back to boring Nickelback and milk and cookies for the kiddies as usual, but tonight was for old school fans. The only problem I had was the refs wearing those ridiculous hair pieces. Its okay for them to wear the old school outfits but the hair pieces were ridiculous.

I wish we would have seen The Fink and Jim Ross announce and commentate for the entire show, but I'm just happy we got to see JR call one last match. I don't know if we will ever see him commentate again, but he still has it. He doesn't have to commentate on a regular basis, but it would be nice to see him commentate for big events every now and then. Cole was annoying talking over JR, but he did play his role well.

I thought the lack of big name stars like Austin, Rock, HBK, Undertaker, Bret Hart, Ventura or even possibly Savage would hurt this show but it didn't. They really didn't need big names like Austin or Rock since they had so much talent. I can't believe Slick and Harvey Whipleman were there.

Slaughter and Dusty Rhodes wasn't anything we haven't seen before. We have even seen the Million Dollar Man and IRS quite a few times over the past few months. It was still cool to see them.

I'm not really excited about the PPV. They did a great job of hyping the main event of Survivor Series: Orton vs. Barrett with Cena as the ref. Piper's Pit was great. It was awesome to see Jim Ross call a Daniel Bryan and Jack Swagger match. Mae Young calling LayCool bitches and ****s and JR calling a match for the first time in years made my night. I hope they have more old school episodes in the future.

These past 3 hours and 15 minutes flew by. The Raw after Survivor Series should be interesting to see where Cena stands.

I couldn't agree more with everyone (2 people :P) at the moment. This raw was simply AWESOME. It was great to see the old school ring, and arena. Mae Young was amazing with her comments (Is this a sign that things are going to be a little bit looser now?) and HOLY SHIT it was amazing to hear JR on the mic again. Him and King ARE RAW! Sorry Michael Cole, but you are not, nor will you ever be half as good as JR is on the commentary mic. However, I think the big thing about this Raw is that it reintroduced a very important concept to the WWE. One that they have preached for generations. ANYTHING can happen. What was the last true "Holy Shit" moment on Raw? Nexus appearing and beating down Cena? Yeah, one Holy Shit moment in 5 months is not good IMO, and I hope WWE learns from this show. I want a Mark Out Moment on every Raw. Not just every once in a while, but every Raw. I want that feeling that anything can happen again, even if it is just a little thing like Mark Henry returning with the Sexual Chocolate gimmick. There were so many mark out moments on this Raw that I was literally exhausted from screaming at the end. That was what Raw was all about at the start, that was what Raw was all about during the Attitude Era, and that is what Raw should be again. It is what makes a Raw truly epic IMO.

Old School Raw

Let me just start off by saying the set, the microphones, the ring, etc. are freakin' awesome. I loved the old format. As superficial as it may sound, this set has automatically increased my grade for tonight's show.

Mean Gene/Bob Orton/Wade Barrett/Miz/Cena

Mean Gene is here, and I'm loving it. Bob Orton was never a guy I cared about, but his connection with Randy is important (obviously, I know). Barrett just keeps getting better and better on the mic, and having him go face to face with Orton Sr. was a good move. Miz comes out, yacking about his briefcase. Sorry, I just have no interest in Miz, at all. Cena gets on the screen, wants Miz tonight. Haven't seen this match enough, have we?

Mark Henry/Dolph Ziggler

I don't care about Ziggler, and I have never cared about Mark Henry. "Sexual Chocalate" was a bum then, and he's a bum now. Ziggler looked strong here, and even though I'm not his biggest fan, he deserves to win a hell of a lot more than Mark Henry.

Nexus Boys vs. Hart Dynasty

Well, I guess this is about as close to breaking up the Hart Dynasty as you can get without actually announcing it. Shame to see, these two are much better in a tag team then they will be on their own. Big mistake, IMO. These two teams made for a decent match though. Gabriel and Slater have some chemistry, and actually MAKE SENSE as a tag team. Ok match, nothing special.

Mean..WOOO..Gene/Orton/R-Truth

Jesus, is anyone else as sick of listening to R-Truth promo's as I am?? I hope no one takes this as a racial thing, but I cannot understand half of what is coming out of his mouth, and it's getting worse. Interjecting R-Truth has done nothing for this Cena/Barrett/Orton thing.

Brooklyn Brawl (MTFO!) vs. Big Zeke (still don't care)

Even though I think Big Zeke is a total waste of time, I'm actually glad he beat the Brawler here. It just wouldn't be right for The Brooklyn Brawler to actually win a match. His legacy stays in tact.

Nexus Backstage

David Otunga attempts to take the leadership role once again..and is completely shot down by Barrett, which is a good thing. God, I really hope Otunga doesn't branch out and start his own faction. He's brutally terrible, and it wouldn't work.

John Cena vs. Alex Riley

Wow, I actually marked out when I saw it was going to be Riley instead of Miz. I have been hoping for some time now that Riley would get a chance to get a real match in, and he finally did. He's much better in the ring than The Miz is, and he's pretty good at working the crowd heel-style. I hope he's in line for a decent push sometime soon. Decent match, nothing really to talk about.

Orton/Cena

I love how the old school security guards/road agents came out. Good stuff, can't wait for Piper's Pit.

Iron Sheik/Volkoff/Santino/Kozlov

Not funny..not at all. But it's nothing to really complain about, seeing Sheik and Volkoff can barely even talk anymore.

Santino/Kozlov vs. Uso's

Not a good match, by any means. Kozlov and Santino are funny together, but this team needs to split. Santino is hot enough for a decent mid-card push, and Kozlov..well, I have no clue what to do with him. The Uso's have been given absolutely nothing to do for months now, so it's no surprise they do nothing here either.

Otunga vs. Kofi

Kofi looks like Shawn Michaels compared to Otunga. This match sucked, mostly because Otunga can't do anything right. And as far as George Steele goes...who knows. He's nuts. And even with Steele being over-the-hill and insane..he was still twice as entertaining as Otunga could ever dream to be.

Rhodes Family/Dibiase and Son/Everyone else/Ron Simmons

I have to say, this was basically a Wrestlemania 23 repeat, but I still absolutely MarkedTFO when I saw Ron Simmons. One of my all-time personal favorites, and it made me laugh.

Wade Barrett/R-Truth

Actually, this match was solid. Nothing special, at all, but solid. Barrett looked strong, and won clean, which I was happy with.

Del Rio vs. Slaughter

Slaughter cuts one hell of a promo here, and was rather entertaining. This Del Rio guy stinks, IMO, and I don't care to see him on Raw. MVP actually got a decent crowd reaction..shocking.

LayCool/Mae Young

It's odd..not matter how annoying I may find LayCool..they were dead on in everything they said. Poor Mae Young. Stop trotting this poor old woman out here every few months, no one cares. I hope she's getting a decent check from this. But on a bright note, her calling them "****s" and "bitches" did make me laugh. First time Mae Young has made me laugh..ever, I think.

Danielson/Swagger with JIM freakin' ROSS Doing Commentary!

I marked out big time for J.R. Really good match for Raw, as is usually the case when Danielson is involved. The Ross/Cole feud took center stage, and I wanted to choke the shit out of Michael Cole (which means he did his job). I felt Cole crossed the line a few times, but it was entertaining stuff. I don't care, I still want to see J.R. every Monday. Cole might be entertaining at this moment, but it won't last.

Piper's Pit

I think it's awesome that Piper just delivered what could be a Top 5 promo given this year, and I'm not even kidding. This guy has value on the mic, to this day, and should have some kind of on-air role as a GM or something.

I feel really uncomfortable when John Cena gets too emotional. He's not a good actor, and it makes me cringe. This match is setting up nicely, but I hope this whole Cena/Orton/Barrett triangle is coming to a close.

OVERALL

It's hard to knock this show because, A. It did what is was supposed to do. It was "gimmicky" and that's exactly what I expected. I wish they had brought in some guys we don't see once every 3 months anyway, but it worked. The set and all of the material "Old School" stuff worked well, and it didn't ignore the upcoming PPV. Piper actually played an important role in the upcoming Survivor Series main event, so he was put to good use at least.

I'm giving it a solid B.

Towards the end of RAW tonight I began to think that there is so much irony in what happened tonight. The election is over with. First live RAW after the election. Jim Ross returned. At first, when Jim Ross acted like he wasn't going anywhere - I had wondered if we had all been duped. Jim Ross's voice even sounds stronger. Ron Simmons came out and said, "Damn!" even with the shirt on that said it. Lawler told Cole to shut the hell up. Cena said Damn Right. I thought the ****s comment was hilarious.

I thought the show was absolutely awesome. I got chills when I seen the WWF logo for the first time at the bottom left hand corner of the screen.

The set was absolutely perfect. They even got the camera angles right. Before the matches start they pan out to get the WWF logo posters hanging from the rafters.

As I was watching tonight I thought that WWE should have done this back when Hogan returned in 2002 instead of the NWO thing. They could have done a Piper vs Hogan segment (They eventually did at WM 19 but I was talking about a retro show like tonight).

Hopefully WWE can ride on this retro push for awhile.

My only thing is that I wish Vince McMahon, JR, Lawler had done commentary for the whole show, not Cole.

WWE Monday Night Raw - November 15, 2010

Opening Segment - I liked Raw's opening last night a lot. It was great to see Gene Okerlund out there doing an interview segment very much along thelines you'd see him conducting back in the old days. The return of the interview podium was cool and I thought that Bob Orton did a good job of putting over Randy. He stumbled over his words a little but I didn't care at all. I noticed Mean Gene's hand shaking some when he was holding the mic and it made me a little sad. Not because of Gene, he did great, just that it shows that nobody can escape old age. Wade Barrett & The Miz both came out eventually and contributed a lot to the segment, both delivered very solid promo work. Cena popped up on screen, challenged The Miz and Miz accepted. Strong opening segment that had a great nostalgic feel and was actually pulled off quite well. Thumbs Up

Dolph Ziggler vs. Mark Henry - This was a pretty decent match between these two. Henry coming out to his old Sexual Chocolate music really got the crowd into it. Even though Henry is limited in the ring, he and Ziggler put out a pretty good effort. I also liked the little promo square that popped up in the corner of the screen before the match. There were a few times during the match that surprised me, such as Henry kicking out of the Zig Zag for instance. Ziggler eventually gets the win at the 5 minute mark with the Sleeper. It wasn't a classic, but it was a solid 5 minute match and better than what we usually see from Henry. Thumbs Up

The Hart Dynasty vs. Heath Slater & Justin Gabriel - This match was a little short, just over the 3 minute mark. I was a little disappointed here as I would've liked the match to have gone longer of course, but it worked for what it was. DH Smith looked pretty good in the ring, quite crisp I thought. The chain belly to belly suplexes look like a fun addition to his move set. Slater & Gabriel looked like a well functioning team with a lot of quick tags and keeping Smith isolated. Tyson Kidd turns on Smith here, nailing him with a kick instead of accepting the tag and allowing Gabriel to hit the 450 splash for the win. At least they finally broke up with Kidd as the heel. I would've liked to have seen a good 8 or 10 minutes of this before Kidd made the turn, but this was alright for what it was. Thumbs Up

R-Truth & Randy Orton - Mean Gene conducted another pretty good interview segment back in the locker room here. R-Truth comes in and definitely stirs the pot up and it looks as though a heel turn is looming here. I find myself wondering he he'll play some part in the WWE Championship match at Survivor Series. It helped keep the tension between Cena & Orton at the forefront and it was just a solid segment. Nothing spectacular about it, but it keeps R-Truth in this situation somehow and I'm intrigued as to how this is going to play out. Thumbs Up

Ezekiel Jackson vs. The Brooklyn Brawler - Basic 60 second squash match here. Nothing really to say about it, but it didn't really interest me. The Brooklyn Brawler doesn't exactly fit my idea of a legend and I just didn't really see any purpose to him. It was fun seeing Howard Finkel & Harvey Whippleman out there, but this match just didn't accomplish anything. Thumbs Down

Nexus - The Nexus is shown up on the big screen in the locker room with Otunga still asserting himself a little with the other members. Wade Barrett is very good in his role as the confident core of the group and I like the idea of him facing R-Truth in the match rather than Otunga. The Raw GM chimed in and overruled Barrett's decision to put Otunga against Truth. It could be a fun match, even though I've little doubt of the outcome. If Truth does turn, it won't be tonight I don't think. Solid little promo segment. Thumbs Up

John Cena vs. Alex Riley - I actually would have preferred The Miz to go in here against Cena, but I get why The Miz substituted Riley. Good way to generate heat and keep people guessing as to whether or not Miz will play a role at Survivor Series. The match was generally solid at 4 minutes, but I just couldn't get into it. I would have loved to have seen Cena lose here due to some sort of interference from Miz and give Riley a big win. It would have made this interesting but it just didn't work out. Cena wins with the STF and I just thought it was kinda dull. With Cena not wrestling at the ppv, I think Riley should've gone over here with some major interference from Miz. Thumbs Down

Iron Shiek, Nikolai Volkoff, Santino Marella & Vladimir Koslov and Slick - The stuff with Volkoff and Shiek doing the Russion anthem thing didn't work for me. I know it was one of those heavy nostalgia moments, but it's just simply too dated. Santino's presence livened things up a bit but seeing Slick come out singing Jive Soul Bro made it work for me. It was very nice to see him and I always thought he was just plain fun when I was growing up. It was a bit of a surprise to see him out, but he was fun and pretty much saved this segment. Thumbs Up

The Usos vs. Santino Marella & Vladimir Koslov - In all honesty, this match wasn't bad. I kind of groaned a little when I heard it would determine the #1 contenders for the WWE Tag Team Championship but this was actually a pretty solid 6 minute tag match. If you get past the comedy aspect of Santino, he's actually kind of impressive in the ring. He definitely has some martial arts training going on and put it to good use in the match. He and Koslov do get the win, though I do wish he'd get rid of The Cobra finishing move. I guess it's his version of the People's Elbow or something. Still, the crowd loves it for some reason. I pray that they don't win the titles but, in any case, this was pretty decent. Sheamus & Morrison come out and continue things. I expect these two to have a match at Survivor Series. Thumbs Up

Kofi Kingston vs. David Otunga - I personally could've done without George The Animal Steele's presence in this match. I was just never into the guy. Overall, Kofi & Otunga put on a pretty good 5 minute match up. As with Ziggler earlier in the evening, they put up a little promo square at the top of the screen and Kofi gave a fun face mini promo. Otunga overall looked better in the ring against Kofi than I've seen him and was holding his own until Steele came out and did his thing with the turnbuckle. The crowd loved it, but it didn't do much for me. I wish they would've waited until the match was over, but I can't fault Otunga & Kofi for that choice as they put on a solid match. Kofi gets the win via Trouble in Paradise. Thumbs Up

John Morrison, Gerald Brisco & Arn Anderson - Brisco and Double A are shown backstage talking with Morrison. Brisco looked great last night and seems to have made a full recovery from his hospital stint and it's always nice to see Anderson. Sheamus shows up and nails Morrison with the Brogue Kick. It looked great as Sheamus really caught Morrison right in the face. Sheamus tells Anderson & Brisco to tell Morrison he accepts his challenge for a match at Survivor Series. Nice to see Sheamus get a little revenge after weeks of JoMo getting in his business and it should be a fun match. Thumbs Up

Aksana, Dusy Rhodes, Goldust, Cody Rhodes, IRS & Ted DiBiase - This was just an extremely corny segment that did nothing for me at all. Nice to see Ted & IRS of course, but all the shit with Aksana getting caught in a net and Dusty Rhodes in the wig and all just left me cold. Thumbs Down

Wade Barrett vs. R-Truth - Again, nothing overly spectacular here, but a very solid 5 minute effort here. Barrett & Truth worked well together I thought and there was some fun, if mostly basic, offense during the match. No hint of a heel turn in this match, though that doesn't mean that something won't happen at the ppv. Barrett gets the win after hitting Wasteland on Truth. The outcome was never in doubt, but Barrett needed a good showcase match against somone good inside the ring. Like him or not, Truth is fun to watch wrestle and the match served its purpose. Thumbs Up

Alberto Del Rio & Sgt. Slaughter - Del Rio comes out and gives a fun heel promo. I like this guy a lot. He's just so confident and smooth in his character, it just seems to fit him like a glove. Sgt. Slaughter comes out to a good pop and delivers some of his classic lines on the mic and the crowd was into it. The match they had wasn't much to talk about in general. Slaughter did pretty well, all things considered, and honestly still looked compotent in the ring. The fans rallied behind Slaughter and got into it, the whole USA chanting was a nice touch. Del Rio does get the win, as expected, but the segment worked. Del Rio looks like a prick, an old school legend stands up for the fans and Del Rio gets more heat from beating up said legend. Thumbs Up

Mae Young & The Divas - I actually got up to take a piss break here. I'd been holding it for too long, so I have no clue as to what happened here. I can't say whether it was good or bad, though I'm going to side with the latter on this.

Daniel Bryan vs. Jack Swagger - I marked out when Jim Ross came out and called this match. It's been forever since we've seen him and I loved it quite frankly. Ross is still the best at what he does and hearing him call this match was a a lot of fun. Bryan & Swagger put forth a very good match here, easily the match of the night. It was a good mesh of styles with Swagger's strength & Bryan's overall athleticism. Both of them worked hard and put forth a very fun and competitive match I thought. Swagger hit a lot of his key moves throughout and Bryan looked tough as he took everything Swagger had to throw at him. Michael Cole was being an absolute dick toward JR during this and I loved it. I literally wanted to reach through the TV and smack the shit outta Cole. I have an idea that's what the WWE wanted to do and it worked big time. Cole raged again'st JR and Daniel Bryan the whole time with JR, playing the role of the consumate pro, ignored Cole the whole time. Bryan gets the win about the 11 minute mark by nailing Swagger with a kick to the head. The crowd was very much into the match, both guys hit some of their key moves and delivered a high quality match. Ted DiBiase ran in afterward and jumped Bryan from behind, nailing him with Dream Street. It could be a good feud between these two. As JR leaves, he knocks Cole upside the head with his cowboy hat while Cole squawks about it. Great match and great stuff on commentary. Thumbs Up

Piper's Pit with Rowdy Roddy Piper, John Cena, Wade Barrett & Randy Orton - This was a damn fine way to close the show last night. I was hoping that Roddy Piper would be running on all cylinders and that's what we got. Piper can still deliver on the mic and was great at literally bringing out some real emotion here. The stuff between him and John Cena worked out really well and did exactly what it was meant to do. Wade Barrett came out and made his contribution to the segment and got great heat. Eventually, Orton comes out and they all kinda get into it a little. Orton hits the RKO on Cena, misses the punt, takes the AA. Cena hits Barrett with the AA as well while the crowd goes nuts. The highlight of the segment for me was Piper. Using him as being sort of the guy that gave Cena that little extra push, that little extra nudge into "doing the right thing", whatever that ultimately turns out to be at the ppv, worked out great. Thumbs Up

Overall Show - Last night's episode of Raw was a lot of fun. The WWE went the extra mile with a lot of stuff like having the refs wearing the older uniforms, Lawler & Cole wearing old school WWF suits, the banners, the ring ropes, the little promo squares, the promo podium, etc. I do think that they went a little overboard with the nostalgia at times, but it was a lot of fun seeing most of the legends that they brought out. The wrestling content on the show was pretty solid and I thought it was, overall, stronger than it has been over the past few weeks. Daniel Bryan vs. Jack Swagger was a great match while most of the other matches were at least solid. It was great seeing Jim Ross last night and Michael Cole was just great in his role last night. The guy was a real dick to JR and it just really, really clicked. Roddy Piper was great during Piper's Pit last night and I thought that Raw did a great job with the final push toward the WWE Championship match at Survivor Series. This was VASTLY better than the last 3 hour Raw, which I think was the extremely lame "Viewer's Choice" episode. The only good thing about that episode was the original Nexus beatdown of Cena. There were a few bad segments on this show but, generally speaking, it was just a very fun show for me.

Grade: B+

Iron Shiek, Nikolai Volkoff, Santino Marella & Vladimir Koslov and Slick - The stuff with Volkoff and Shiek doing the Russion anthem thing didn't work for me. I know it was one of those heavy nostalgia moments, but it's just simply too dated. Santino's presence livened things up a bit but seeing Slick come out singing Jive Soul Bro made it work for me. It was very nice to see him and I always thought he was just plain fun when I was growing up. It was a bit of a surprise to see him out, but he was fun and pretty much saved this segment. Thumbs Up

I really don't understand why they keep giving Iron Sheik air time. The guy is obviously mentally unstable or was drunk or high. Did anyone notice that they ended up shutting his mic off because he was blabbering about Hulkamania? I think Santino was a bit embarrassed to. Seeing Slick made up for it.

Mae Young & The Divas - I actually got up to take a piss break here. I'd been holding it for too long, so I have no clue as to what happened here. I can't say whether it was good or bad, though I'm going to side with the latter on this.

It was dumb, as expected. Mae Young can barely move, yet we were led to believe she was going to wrestle?

Thumbs Up

I wish they gave Piper more airtime than they did, but it was a great segment to end the show. His monologue to Cena about him and other big-name guys never winning a belt was powerful and, unfortunately, so true. Hogan held a lot of people down back then. Piper can still out talk most of the roster at his age. I wish he had more of an on-screen role.

Highlight of the evening: JR hitting Cole with his hat. 2 thumbs up.

Great show tonight and I really loved the old school theme, from the faces, to the theme songs, to the logos. I'm not going to run down the whole show but I do want to praise how awesome the Piper's pit segment was. Every single person in that segment delivered tonight. Piper proved why he is one of the greatest on the mic, and he put over the championship like few others can, making it look so incredibly prestigious and important. Cena proved just why he's the face of the company, and whether you like or hate him I can't see how you can deny his ability. Barrett proved that he's definitely a main eventer tonight, and he stood with some top guys and was their equals tonight. The whole segment was just great from start to finish, and WWE proved with this segment how to build up to a PPV. That was such a great job at putting over the PPV match.

Simply put, last night was awesome. This might sound bad, but it kind of reminded me of an episode from the first two seasons of NXT, except better. They didnt feature any great wrestling, but the episode was just so entertaining and fun to watch that I didnt care about the wrestling.

Everything was great if you ask me. One thing I didnt like was the skit with Mae Young, and even then, her calling Laycool ****s and bitches made that bearable. Also, the match between Brooklyn Brawler and Zeke was really unnecessary. Other than that, I was loved everything else. I almost didnt want it to end.

The highlights for me was the skit backstage with the Rhodes's and the last 45 minutes. I loved the skit backstage. It was so funny. What made it even better is that they actually acknowledged that Goldust and Cody are brothers. They do it every now and then, but its always good to see it.

The last 45 minutes was the DB and Swagger match with JR on commentary and the final segment. I MTFO when JR came out. I was so happy to see him again and even happier to hear him again. I immediately knew he was going to call a DB match, as he is a huge fan of his. Then when his fellow Oklahomie (hehe) came to the ring, it just made my night. A match between Swagger and Danielson is the perfect match for JR's return. Not only that, but it was a good match and the interactions between Cole and JR were hysterical. It all made me miss JR more.

I thought the ending was fantastic. Piper was incredible on the mic, and there is no one that could have played that part better. He did exactly what he needed to do and more. On top of that, Cena and Barrett were great as usual. I peeked into the LD for a second and saw that Blue Cardinal had summed it up perfectly. He said something like, "Here you go Vince. $45 right?". That segment last night made the whole PPV worth buying. I am so pumped to see what happens with Cena and Barrett. Great job by everyone in building some great suspense and attention for the ME.

Easily, this RAW gets an A from me, and I hope they do this again next year.

What a Raw. It was one of the best Raws I have seen in a long time. I was excited the whole time. It was great seeing a lot of those legends on the show.

For me, Jim Ross being on there took the cake. It was simply awesome seeing him back on wrestling period. He looked great and I marked the fuck out for him. The "interaction" between him and Cole was great.

I also really like The Piper's Pit segment. The whole thing with Piper and Cena was great. I was really into it.

Wade Barrett really made a great showing on this episode. Beating Truth clean, his backstage orders for Otunga and the rest of Nexus and his segment in the ring with Piper and Cena was badass. Even the start of the show with "Cowboy" Bob and Mean Gene, Barrett came out and set a tone for the night.

Overall a great Raw. Really good set up for this Sunday's Survivor Series. I have been really anxious for the PPV. But after last night's show, my expectations and anticipation for SS is at an all time high.

The numbers for last night's Raw are out and I'd say the WWE is probably pretty pleased. The show scored a 3.1 Nielsen Rating with 4,758,000 viewers. The first hour pulled a 2.74 rating, hour 2 pulled a 3.2 and hour 3 a 3.22. As expected, the first hour of the show scored much lower, which is something that fits the pattern of all 3 hour Raws I've seen.

Still, Raw drew roughly 4.8 million viewers, so I'd say that's good enough to warrant another show like this next year.

This show was like a three hour mark-out session for me. The logos, set, promo boxes, Mean Gene with the mic, the ring, the referee uniforms... I felt like certain guys even adapted their ring styles to a slightly more old-school tune, and that worked really well. I thought the "Sexual Chocolate" character for Henry was a nice little touch that didn't alter anything and was fun for the fans (especially given that the show was in Hershey), whether you were ever into the gimmick or not. Ziggler made him look better than I can remember him being, too.

The Legends were fun to see, and while you could assume that guys like Lombardi, Rotunda and Rhodes would be there, given that they have roles in the company and would probably be there anyway, some of the appearances were totally unexpected--Harvey Whippleman and Slick, for God's sake! Sure, there were some guys I'd have liked to have seen who weren't there, but I really couldn't have asked for more. I was kind of surprised Bret wasn't there, though. Thank fuck Warrior wasn't.

I was pleasantly surprised that Slaughter didn't look like an old man in there, but was kind of sad that Tito didn't really elicit much of a reaction and that Sheik seemed even further off his rocker than ever, to the point where they shut off his mic. The latter was a pretty sad (though still somewhat amusing) point in a ridiculously fun show. While one can argue that his mental state and Mae Young's age are the source of the questionable language, one has to wonder if they're going to allow a bit more controversial material now that the election is over.

Swagger and DBD was a very fun match, though JR and Cole seemed to be taking center stage here to the point where it was distracting from the match. Their interplay was fun and did a lot for Cole's character, but I do feel that it took away from the contest, which I'd like to see again under different circumstances. Great blend of styles, mat prowess and good chemistry between these two, enhanced by an interesting balance of power vs. speed and agility. I had been hoping to see these two go at it for a while, so it was nice to see.

Also glad to see that they fleshed out the rest of the PPV card, though the Smackdown elimination match looks really thrown together and jumbled. I'm hoping they can work at least one other elimination match into the card, and I'd assume that if they did it would be with the Raw roster.

Piper was spot on, and in my opinion, did a better job of selling the drama, tension and angst surrounding the PPV than Cena, Orton, Barrett or WWE in general have done in the past month, all in just a few seconds. This says a lot about Piper (though we already knew that) and the way promos used to work, but I felt that Cena fired back well and Piper brought out the best in him. A great ending to a great show.

Perhaps it's because this show hearkened back to my childhood, but this was the best Raw we've seen in a while. This was how they should have done the 900th episode. I was there for that and was really disappointed with the lack of nostalgia for a "milestone" episode. I absolutely do think that they should repeat the old school format every once in a while, because this was great fun. Obviously, it would have to be varied each time and they probably shouldn't overdo it, but they definitely did this one right and we owe them major props for it.

Raw was produced and broadcast perfectly. They got EVERYTHING right. Even the minor details! It took me back 15 years and I loved every minute of it. Spot on so well done to the WWE production crew on that front.

The show itself was also pretty good. I would give it a B. My only criticism is the Legends wernt high calibre enough. But then again, do you want to take away the focus from current talent so close to a PPV event.

Dunno y they used cowboy bob orton, other than him being ortons dad. His promo was shit and the crowd barely reacted when he was announced. Mean gene was a bonus and a plus for the show, as was Slick and Iron Sheik. Piper as always was brilliant. This Raw was just another shitfest with afew legends thrown in for nothing more than cam time really. Couldve been done alot better IMO but hey its just my opinion. They shouldve gone more old school RAW, rather than old school WWF. Old school RAW with afew true WWF legends thrown in. They shouldve given Slick managerial role not the stupid ass dancing walk-on. Fuck it im not gonna ramble on. It was shit nuff said.

Good Smackdown tonight...

But you know what really pisses me off? The fact that these stupid Dumbass "Live coverage" writers on Websites like Pwtorch and Prowrestling.net are totally BURYING the VERY ENTERTAINING angle involving Edge kidnapping Paul bearer.

What the FUCK do these guy's expect this feud to be like? Edge coming out and saying "I will beat you Kane, that title is mine!" LOL. I mean for the first time in a while I was actually laughing out loud at Something on Smackdown.....I thought it was a very entertaining angle

I guess some of these Cynical "Journalists" are just never pleased....Assholes, lol.

I guess We are entitled to our opinions, and My opinion is that the stuff with Edge and Paul bearer was hilarious....Maybe a little weird, and maybe not the best booking....But it entertained me, and I think that's what they're goal was.

Sorry I didn't write a full review of the show, but I'm kind of lazy tonight. Good Show overral.

Smackdown
Date: November 19, 2010
Location: The Richmond Coliseum, Richmond, Virginia
Commentators: Michael Cole, Todd Grisham, Matt Striker

It’s the go home show for Survivor Series and I’d assume we’ll get a bit more of the card tonight which needs to be fleshed out to really get things going. Other than that I don’t know if we can expect much on the show tonight. They threw on the Survivor Series match on Monday so probably some development on that. Other than that though there isn’t much I can expect. Let’s get to it.

We open with a package on Bearer and Kane talking about how there is no hope in Edge and all that jazz. This ends with Bearer being stolen by Edge. I’m interested in seeing where that aspect of the feud goes.

I’m liking that opening video more and more every time I see it. It makes the guys look awesome.

Rey vs. Alberto tonight.

Here’s Alberto to start us off. He says he’ll be the superstar of the show and it’s going to be great. We get a clip of him beating up the Sarge and according to Grisham it was a HUGE win. Cole slips up and says that happened last night. After Alberto talks about how awesome he is again, here’s MVP. MVP actually criticizes Alberto’s grasp of the English language.

I don’t have time to make fun of that though as he compares Chavo Classic to Dusty Rhodes, Roddy Piper and Ricky Steamboat among others. I get that Chavo was a huge star in LA, but dude, that’s not even close to a realistic comparison there. MVP says they paved the way and all that jazz. He says let’s do it right now and Alberto says no. He says he has Rey tonight but he’ll bring him someone from Team Del Rio, which is Drew McIntyre. Good thing he was in his ring gear and ready to go already isn’t it?

MVP vs. Drew McIntyre

They hit the floor almost immediately to brawl and we head to a break. Drew tries to hide under the ring but pulls a nice move by grabbing MVP’s arm through the structure the ring is made of and pulling MVP’s shoulder into the edge of the apron. That was awesome. The announcers break down the match at the PPV while Drew works the arm. His arm may be hurt as well though for some reason.

MVP makes his comeback and hits Ballin for no cover. They talk about the former New York Knick Charles Oakley for no apparent reason. Ah he went to college in this town apparently. With Drew down on all fours MVP more or less hits a bicycle kick to the side of his head to get the pin. That was rather out of nowhere and it ended the match at 4:37 shown of about 8:07.

Rating: C. Not bad here but MVP winning completely clean is a bit surprising. What in the world has happened to Drew? He used to be the hottest star in the company and now he’s jobbing to MVP to open a television show? The kick is a new move for MVP and Striker points that out. This wasn’t too bad but it was really nothing special at all.

We go to the back with Edge talking about Kane freaking out. We zoom out to see Bearer still in the same clothes and bound and gagged in the chair. Edge rips the tape off and then puts it back on when Bearer screams. So did no one see them come to an airport or in a car with Bearer all tied up like that?

Apparently they’ve been to a monster truck rally and a beach volleyball game. Who plays beach volleyball in November? Edge has his own wheelchair and challenges Bearer to a race which the fat man won’t compete it. Spoil sport. Edge offers to play Trivial Pursuit and Jenga. Bearer’s eyes are great here.

Chavo is in Teddy’s office saying he should be chosen for something when Kane comes in. The Mexican Warrior of course scatters as Kane sits down. That’s a bit odd to see. He thinks Teddy knows where Paul knows and screams at Teddy to tell where he is.

Chris Masters vs. Jack Swagger

Well this should be short in theory due to a jobber to the stars facing a former world champion so I’d bet on this being a rather long match. The announcers talk about how Masters has been coming into his own lately. So he’s been losing by less and less now? Swagger dominates to start as we hear about how great the full nelson has been lately.

Masters gets a Samoan Drop out of nowhere to break things up a bit. He has gotten a bit more versatile lately given how he seemed to be incapable of doing anything other than punch or use the full nelson. Speaking of which there’s the full nelson. For no apparent reason Masters lifts him into the air and Swagger gets to the ropes with his legs. They’re claiming Swagger jumped but it certainly didn’t look like that to me.

Swagger rams Masters’ ankle into the post and the leg work begins. A chop block sets up the ankle lock and he has to tap in about 3:00 even. This wasn’t quite a squash but you could make a legitimate case that it was actually.

Rating: C-. Not bad here but really nothing all that great. Masters is a guy that would be a bit more believable if he like, won something every now and then which he hasn’t done since Superstars in early October. Other than that though he’s kind of lost every match he’s had, making him a bit hard to take as a legitimate threat to do anything Sunday. This wasn’t quite a squash but it wasn’t anything all that special.

Edge talks to Bearer again about how he’s going to have to be at the top of his game and very agile. What better way to do that than a friendly game of dodgeball? He keeps throwing closer and closer to Bearer before finally hitting him. I’ve always preferred face Edge to heel Edge. He bounces the ball off Paul’s head a lot which is rather funny.

Kaval vs. Dolph Ziggler

No entrance for Kaval here. Ziggler says all his problems are over and he has Vickie still. So the Kaitlyn make out thing is over already? He makes fun of Kaval’s height and his internet fan base. Cole immediately goes after past for having been in the minor leagues for ten years.

Zig Zag misses after some basic stuff and Kaval gets an Oklahoma Roll for two. Out of NOWHERE Kaval reverses an O’Connor Roll for the pin at about 1:59! That’s a legit surprise. No rating of course but this was fast paced and rather fun. That’s his first win too.

Kaval grabs a mic and says that since he won the second season of NXT he’s guaranteed a title shot at a PPV so he’s picking the IC Title at Survivor Series. Simple but that works for me.

Cody vs. Kofi up next. It’s a showdown match of some kind.

Back from a break with Edge pushing Bearer around and running, saying it’s to get his cardio up. This is pretty funny stuff.

Kofi Kingston vs. Cody Rhodes

I love the variations of the name plates they have here now. For instance Kofi has palm trees on his. I wasn’t aware there were palm trees in Ghana but whatever. They talk about George Steele coming down on Monday which was an awesome moment. Kofi gets a BIG slap to Cody and Cody loses it. He has to check his mirror on the back of his jacket. I love this character more and more every week.

Back from a break and Cody is all over Kofi, pounding away on him in the corner. Kofi busts out the jumping though and hits a jumping back elbow, one of my favorite moves for some reason, for two. Cole laughs at Grisham for suggesting that Rey’s team is faster. The fastest guy on Alberto’s team is…Cody I suppose? It’s rare to see Kofi on extended offense anymore.

And so much for that as Cody gets a pair of release gordbusters, resulting in Matt to call for Arn Anderson to be in the Hall of Fame again which is true. He wants Brawler in the Hall of Fame also. Why not? According to Cole Alberto vs. Rey is already a great rivalry. Wow they have lower standards anymore for what is considered great. Striker is running down the card and mentions the IC Title match and refers to Vickie as his syrupy stack of love cakes. Hang on I need a minute to recover from that one.

Ok I think I’m back now. Kofi gets a pendulum kick out of nowhere and a cross body off the top for two. Both guys miss their kicks which sounds like something from an ROH match. Kofi gets a rollup for a VERY close two but walks into Cross Rhodes for the pin at approximately 6:00 of 9:30 total.

Rating: B. Very solid back and forth match here with both guys getting to show off out there a bit. Cody is quicker than he seems and is very underrated as an overall package. He gets out there, he NAILS his character and he has pretty solid matches on top of it. Kofi was his usual solid self but at the same time he is just the same thing every week: a decent if not good match and then that’s about it and we’ll see him do the same thing next week.

Cole: “No instant replay here!” Striker: “….we just saw one.” That’s a stupid, stupid man sometimes.

Kane says Paul Bearer is the only person that has ever understood him and he feels like a part of his has been ripped away. He’s a bit mad at Edge it seems. Kane is yelling this at some chick that I don’t recognize.

Laycool vs. Natalya vs. Kelly Kelly

Shame we get no recap of the Mae Young segment. Probably not allowed on television with all the cursing in it. Layla vs. Kelly to start us off. Cole runs down Natalya like there is no tomorrow. Apparently he likes Laycool a lot as well. And then a double big boot ends this in 1:10. Well that was short.

Edge goes off to get a huge meal and brings it back to torment Paul with. And of course most of it winds up on Paul. The crowd pops way too loudly for hot wings. It’s time to go see Kane now.

Kane is still breathing hard. Like really hard. He breaks down in tears.

Big Show vs. Tyler Reks

Well I think we know the ending to this one already. Reks fights out of an immediate chokeslam attempt and takes Show down with a kick to the knee and a clothesline. Show is in a Knucklehead shirt too. He hits a splash in the corner and then the chokeslam ends this in 1:16. Well so much for that one. Striker tries to make this seem like some big performance from Reks which just isn’t convincing at all.

Josh is with Alberto who says he’s about to break the tie because Rey isn’t a survivor.

Nearly five minute long package on Cena. Did this really need a song?

Edge and Bearer are in the parking lot and Edge calls for Kane. He lets off the tape for a bit and Paul yells too which gets him nowhere. Kane apparently heard him and is going through the back, passing various people that have been released as of the airing of this standing in front of doors.

Kane gets to Paul but there’s no Edge. He looks around either way and then Edge dives off the top of the van to take down Kane. He hops in the driver’s seat and says he wonders how Paul will look in a Speedo and says we’ll find out if he can float. Odd things to say indeed.

Rey Mysterio vs. Alberto Del Rio

Again, Del Rio’s announcer now has his own introduction. That’s rather awesome. Alberto gets a sick kick in to start and we enter into a big kicking and striking contest which is rather cool. 619 doesn’t work immediately and here’s the rest of Team Del Rio to destroy Rey less than two minutes in. Team Rey runs in for the save and I think I smell a battle royal. Here’s Teddy Long to prove that I’m right.

Battle Royal

You know the ten guys by now and if you don’t then go back and check who has been in the five Showdown matches tonight. Back from a break and it’s on. Masters puts Cody out first in probably his biggest career accomplishment since being in the main event of New Year’s Revolution 2006. And there he goes on a really bad looking elimination from Reks as Masters paused and then charged once the rope was pulled down.

Kofi gets rid of Reks but Rey can’t get rid of McIntyre. These matches are always hard to call as it’s just random stuff on the ropes with no particular rhyme or reason. Drew gets rid of Kofi to get us down to 3-3. Alberto ends MVP. Down to Alberto/Swagger vs. Rey/Show once McIntyre is gone. Alberto is tossed and I apologize for just saying “so and so is eliminated” but there’s nothing else to say. Ankle Lock to Rey but Show saves and there goes Swagger. I guess Rey and Show both win for the team. This lasted about 5:00.

Rating: D-. Nothing worth anything here as they just threw each other out at rather random intervals. This was nothing special at all as it was a rather weak battle royal, which really isn’t saying much. Damn we’ve been having a lot of these lately.

Overall Rating
: B-. This was a step behind what the show usually is but it did a solid job of setting up the main two Smackdown matches as well as giving us a pretty good setup for an IC Title match. This wasn’t bad at all with a ton of wrestling packed into two hours. With only one particularly good match though I wasn’t that impressed from a quality standpoint. That being said though, this did its job very well and definitely set up Survivor Series as well as this could have been I think. Nice go home show.

WWE Friday Night SmackDown! - November 19, 2010

Alberto Del Rio & MVP - This was a fun opening for SmackDown! in my view. One unique difference between Raw & SmackDown! is that SD! doesn't always open things up with the main eventers. There's more general focus on the overall product on SD! and I think the opening segment is a good example. Del Rio continues to be smooth as a prom queen's thighs in his role and he's fun to listen to. Reminding everyone of his win over Sgt. Slaughter on Old School Raw this past Monday generated more heat for him. MVP came out to a pretty good pop and played up the legends that appeared on Raw and various legends in general. I liked how Del Rio basically remained "in charge" of things out there as if whatever happened between himself & MVP would happen only by his decision. He substitutes Drew McIntyre for himself to face MVP in the opening bout. Thumbs Up

MVP vs. Drew McIntyre - This was a pretty fun match, although I've seen them have better in the past. I've started to become a fan of MVP's matches because I do think the guy has genuinely improved, as has McIntyre. I wasn't really sure who would win here so that kept things interesting. MVP does eventually get the win around the 7.5 minute mark and cleanly as well. It was a little surprising as I figured he'd get the win in something of a flukish sort of way, but it worked. Good solid match to start things off. Thumbs Up

Edge, Paul Bearer & Kane - They had these series of backstage segments featuring the participants in the World Heavyweight Championship match at Survivor Series throughout the show. The whole kidnapping thing and Edge playing as the demented strategist just doesn't work for me. Kane running around and screaming, eventually even "crying", like a little bitch for his daddy after he's run rampant over SmackDown! for almost 6 months now was a real turn off for me. I do think they'll have a good match at Survivor Series, but I do wish they hadn't taken this extremely weak route for the past few weeks. Thumbs Down

Jack Swagger vs. Chris Masters - This match wasn't bad for what it was, though it was far from great. It only went about 3 minutes and the outcome was never really in doubt. Swagger does get the win via the ankle lock but Masters puts up a good effort. I think that Chris Masters' look is the only thing that's keeping him employed at this point. I think that he's actually pretty decent inside the ring, but the guy loses just about every match he's in it seems. He's basically been relegated to mid-card obscurity on Superstars for a while now, so it would've been better to put just about anyone on Team Mysterio in my view. It was a decent little 3 minute match, nothing to write home about though. Thumbs Up

Dolph Ziggler vs. Kaval - I was legitimately surprised to see Kaval get a victory here. The match was fast paced, if you blinked you probably missed it. Kaval reverses the O'Connor Roll for a victory at the 2 minute mark, shocking pretty much everyone that doesn't read spoilers. Kaval then gets on the mic and reminds everyone that as the winner of NXT Season II, he gets a championship match when he wants it, so he challenges Ziggler to an IC title match at Survivor Series. I was excited to see this match tonight and was sort of disappointed that it ended so quickly. Kaval winning, however, and issuing a challenge for the title made up for that though. It seems that this match was just a tiny preview for Survivor Series and I think it has the potential to steal the show. Thumbs Up

Dashing Cody Rhodes vs. Kofi Kingston - This was a very good effort on the part of Rhodes & Kofi. It was a back and forth competitive match in which both guys were able to show off pretty well. Kofi is extremely over and I know the guy can work the mic pretty well, so I'm not sure why the WWE hasn't moved him up toward the main event picture. Both guys hit some of their signature moves and had several great near falls that had the fans hanging. Rhodes eventually hits CrossRhodes for the win around the 9.5 minute mark. Fun stuff. Thumbs Up

Natalya & Kelly Kelly vs. LayCool - Basically, this is the general bullshit we're used to getting out of the Divas on Raw or SD!. LayCool gets the win in a little over a minute. Thumbs Down

Big Show vs. Tyler Reks - My hopes were raised in the early goings in this match only to be dashed as this turned into nothing more than a squash match. Reks gets Show off his feet twice in about the first 20 seconds of the match, the second one being with a great looking clothesline. It went downhill from there. If the WWE is going to put Reks out there, why not try and make him look like a force by putting him in an actual match with Show? Show gets the win around the 90 second mark via the choleslam. Thumbs Down

Rey Mysterio vs. Alberto Del Rio/Battle Royal - I was looking forward to Mysterio vs. Del Rio but Del Rio's team comes down about 2 minutes in and start beating on Rey. Then Rey's team comes down and they all get into it, so Teddy Long turns it into a battle royal. It wasn't anything special as far as battle royals go and that's a shame. It was alright for what it was though. Mysterio & Big Show are the last two guys left in the ring, so Mysterio's team wins the match. I would have much rather had a good one on one match between Mysteiro & Del Rio, but this worked ok as a bit of a final push towards Survivor Series. Thumbs Up

Overall Show - SmackDown! was a pretty solid show tonight, though it's not as strong as it has been the past few weeks. Most of the wrestling action was solid, with MVP vs. Drew McIntyre & Cody Rhodes vs. Kofi Kingston being the two best matches on the card. The theme for tonight's show was to build interest for the traditional 5 on 5 Survivor Series tag match and I think it worked ok, but I'm not overly thrilled. I do think it'll be a fun match but I can't get too excited over it as the WWE has done a lot of these big elimination style tag matches over the past several months. I know that most of those matches have primarily been centered around Nexus, but still. I'm not digging the whole kidnapping Paul Bearer situation. It just feels silly and Kane looked like a world class bitch tonight, horrible use of a guy that's been gold since around the end of May. Overall, it was an enjoyable show though it wasn't the best go home show I've seen from SD!, not by a long shot.

They played a video package for the main event on Sunday that just blew my freaking mind. Like I can't describe it outside of "You need to watch it." Wow. Like wow.

The rest of the show? (M)eh.

All of the matches were short. And maybe it is just me, but I think they paired up a lot of the wrong guys. I don't mind five minute matches, but those were some blah five minute matches.

Kaval vs Ziggles didn't seem to click. It felt like they were trying to showcase Kaval's athletic ability a little too hard, so a lot of the stuff looked contrived.

The Divas stuff wasn't needed.

But the worst part of the show was clearly Edge acting like Katy Bates in Misery. I understand wanted to build drama and shit, but what is the point of this direction? It didn't come off looking good. Some how, Edge is suppose to be the face. And the story itself is just too freaking ridiculous.

Edge does seem like a heel in this angle, torturing poor Paul Bearer lol. But even his face character is more of a tweener. It fits his ultimate opportunist gimmick.

Gold Stars for Tonight's SMACKDOWN!

2. Dolph Ziggler vs. Kaval - This was a fast and fun match with a pretty sweet ending, accompanied by solid pre and post match promos

1. Edge vs. Paul Bearer w/ Kane - I don't care what anyone says, this was so obviously the highlights of the night. Edge played a psycho so very well. From dodge ball to Kane crying it all just worked.

QOUTES FOR 11-20-10 Smackdown!
"We should have a drag race." - Edge
"Excuse Me, but I'm on a row." - Dolph Ziggler
"The love triangle, only an obtuse triangle, one side is much bigger than the other 2 sides.." - Matt Striker
"Did he get the hair? Did he get the tights? Maybe, I don't know." - Matt Striker
"MAYBE?" - Todd Grisham
"Hey I don't know, listen I have medicine for that problem Todd I didn’t see that." Matt Striker
"That's what replays are for." Todd Grisham
"I think we're ready to go see Kane, ROAD TRIP!" - Edge
"Rey Mysterio is not a survivor; he does not have the Essence of Excellence." - Alberto Del Rio

November 22, 2010 RAW:

Possibly, one of the best RAW shows of 2010. Everything seemed to just flow together and make one interesting show. As soon as it was announced that The Miz could not compete do to an 'anxiety attack', I was just waiting for the end of the show, which was probably what kept me on the edge of my seat.

The matches were great, John Cena's farewell was great, CM Punk's commentary was great, and The Miz cashing and winning the WWE Championship was great.

The kid's reactions was what probably made the show that much better :P

I loved this Raw. CM Punk joining the announce team, the official King of the Ring tourney announcement, Cena ruining Barrett's chance to become champ, The Miz becoming champ!! I legit cheered when The Miz beat Orton. I don't know if i'm just on a Miz high or what, but I'm very happy with this Raw.

WWE Monday Night Raw - November 22, 2010

Opening Segment - Wade Barrett came out along with the rest of Nexus to absolutely massive amounts of heat. The live crowd was really pouring it on, especially for the first few minutes of Barrett's promo. Barrett delivered a classic heel promo tonight in which he complained about the unfairness of John Cena putting his hands on him, thereby costing him the WWE Championship. Barrett's complaints about injustice and unfairness were great as it just recieved boos on top of boos from the fans. Barrett complained to the Raw GM and the GM rings in and grants Barrett a rematch saying that there was at least some validity to his claim. The live crowd ate this up. Hot opening segment. Thumbs Up

Sheamus vs. R-Truth - The King of the Ring tournament is going to be next week on a 3 hour episode of Raw and this is the first qualifying match. This was a really fun match I thought and featured two different styles between two guys that meshed well. Sheamus' ground & pound deal and the fact that he seems to be focusing on body parts more puts me a little in mind of the Anderson mentality. The missle dropkick Truth hit on Sheamus looked spectacular. It was a good, competitive match even though the outcome was never really in question. Sheamus does get the win at 11 minutes after hitting the High Cross. I liked how Sheamus milked the finisher after hitting Truth with the Brogue Kick. Sheamus looked impressive carrying Truth around, suspended like that. Sheamus qualifies for next week's KOTR tournament. Thumbs Up

LayCool - I thought the little backstage deal with LayCool not being able to get into the building was a fun little moment. I liked that LayCool didn't revert to their annoying, childish banter as the security guy kept them out of the arena. The show's been great thus far and LayCool are SmackDown! stars anyhow, so this worked. Thumbs Up

Ezekiel Jackson vs. Alex Riley - I was a little put out that The Miz substituted Alex Riley for himself again in this match, even though Miz was nowhere to be seen. It went more or less how you'd expect. Jackson gets the win at the 2 minute mark to qualify for KOTR. Nothing happened here to speak of and I'm just not all that wild about Big Zeke to be honest. Thumbs Down

John Cena - John Cena's "farewell address" was extremely well done and very heartfelt. Cena was legitimately choked up when talking about his family, especially his mother. I think anyone that doesn't get to see his/her mother as much or as often as they'd like could understand that. Cena was quite natural out there and I like that he didn't come out all morbid and mopey. I thought having him address that very issue when he first came out was a nice touch. Cena thanked the fans and got everyone involved in a "Let's Go Cena vs. Cena Sucks" chant. The live crowd has been extremely hot for this show and they were all into it. Showing Cena walking out to claps from the locker room and having Barrett do the hand waving thing behind Cena's back was just great. The crowd just boos the shit out of Barrett almost th instant he appears on screen. Thumbs Up

Daniel Bryan vs. Ted DiBiase - This match was really too short to be much of anything. It was solid while it lasted, but Bryan gets the win in 2 minutes. In Cena's farewell speech, he said that he'd gone a lot longer than he was supposed to so I can't help but wonder if they just decided to shave several minutes off of this match. If they didn't, then it doesn't bode well for DiBiase to lose last night to Bryan in a hard fought match and then to job out for him in 2 minutes. The WWE appears to be quite solidly behind Bryan right now and I'm glad to see him qualify for KOTR. I could dog this for being short but I don't know exactly what the deal is. Bryan won the match and it was the right call to make all the same. Thumbs Up

Natalya vs. Alicia Fox - This was a pretty decent Diva match. The live crowd was into Natalya and got some good reactions. Natalya & Alicia Fox are two Divas that can wrestle and I'd honestly like to see them be put in a match with enough time for both women to really show what they've got. Alicia ripping out Nattie's hair extensions was a nice physical touch and Nattie reacting by going Incredible Hulk was a nice touch. Nattie squating while holding Alicia up in a vertical suplex was fun to watch. The match was only about 2.5 minutes, but it was pretty decent. Thumbs Up

John Morrison vs. Tyson Kidd - This was a fun match while it lasted. JoMo was going to win of course but both guys looked good in there tonight. We've seen Kidd against Morrison once before not too long ago and it was similar to this one. I'd love to see these two have a 15 minute match together sometime to really show what they've got. JoMo wins about the 3.5 minute mark to qualify for KOTR. Thumbs Up

Randy Orton vs. Wade Barrett - All the members of Nexus jumping Orton on the way to the ring was a great tease and it really got the crowd even hotter. Wade Barrett has gotten so much heat tonight that it's almost funny. Orton's right knee is injured during the beatdown and, as they come back from commercial break, Barrett walks down to the ring all cool and confident. He argues with the ref for a few minutes before Orton comes out. The overall segment and match here told a great story and meshed well with Cena's earlier comments to Wade Barrett about taking shortcuts. Barrett hits Wasteland and has the match won until Cena runs out and pulls the ref out. Cena takes off up through the crowd with Nexus members hot on his heels. Orton manages to hit the RKO to keep the title a little past the 4 minute mark. Thumbs Up

Randy Orton vs. The Miz - I marked out the instant Miz's music hit. Looking back, it's now plain why Miz didn't compete in the KOTR qualifying match against Zeke Jackson. The Miz goes to work on Orton's injured knee with Alex Riley as cheerleader outside the ring. The crowd was superhot now, just about everyone in the arena was standing up while this was going on. Orton goes for the RKO but Miz blocks and hits the SCF for the win. The Miz is the new WWE Champion. As Miz celebrates, the cameras zoomed out over the crowd and seeing the disappointment, even outright rage on some of the faces, especially the kids, was just great. Helluva way to close the show. Thumbs Up

Overall Show - Raw was running on all cylinders tonight. The show was great from top to bottom. Everything just seemed to click tonight and ran as smooth as a prom queen's thighs. The KOTR qualifying matches were mostly fun. I wish they'd have been a little longer but I have a feeling the matches next week will make up for what these lacked in time. Cena's address was emotional and heartfelt, Wade Barrett generated insane amounts of heat from the crowd tonight and they were just hot for just about everything that went on. Having CM Punk out there to do commentary was a lot of fun and I'm glad to see that they're going to keep him on television while rehabing his hip. The Miz winning the WWE Championship tonight was great. I know there'll no doubt be some that'll say that they saw this coming a mile off. Bullshit. BULL-FUCKING-Shit. I just hope Orton doesn't wind up winning the title back at TLC but we'll jump that bridge when we come to it. Just a really, really fun show tonight.

Grade: A+

I'm going to reiterate what I said in the Live Discussion: Raw has been pretty bland in my opinion this year. I just didn't like much of what they were doing for a lot of months, and I lost interest even though I still watched for hope of a great show. Last week's Raw was great as it had some pretty good matches, solid promos, and reeked of nostalgia.

This week's Raw, however as a "normal episode of Raw," might be one of my all-time favorites. Everything clicked tonight when you are talking about production, execution in the ring, announcing (CM Punk actually helped tell the damned story when King and Cole refused to on multiple occasions), card position, etc. Everything was building up to the end nicely. We got Wade Barrett cutting a decent promo at the beginning with Nexus, Cena with a very good "pseudo-farewell" promo, Orton attacked, Barrett and Orton (with Cena interfering), and then Miz cashing in at the opportune moment. Just excellent storytelling from the WWE that even the most jaded fan has to appreciate.

Just some notes of what I observed:

- John Cena pulling the crowd into his promo was brilliant. It was great to see him acknowledge the two sides of the crowd like he did. Even though I'm not exactly a Cena fan, I give the man props for ever so often showing us what he is capable of on the mic.

- The Miz's journey could not have been more glorious: a man who 4 years ago was feuding with the freaking Boogeyman of all people. A man who went to ECW with a possibility of being future endeavored. A man who then found a niche with John Morrison creating a great tag team. Then he came to Raw and took the ball and ran with it. U.S. Champion, Money in the Bank, WWE Champion. What a story from a historical perspective of the business; JBL's whipping boy to WWE Champion.

- Alicia Fox actually had a decent match tonight. It helps Natalya was in the ring with her. Fox can kill a crowd just by showing up with that generic music. I'm not saying Fox is talentless: there is a lot of talent there. It's just not being used to any sort of potential whatsoever.

- R-Truth got more of a reaction tonight than he's gotten in the last 2 months combined. Welcome back, "What's Up?" It's still a crappy song, but it looks like "All along the Watchtower" compared to "Crunk."

- WWE should have a warning on the bottom of the screen for people watching Maryse. Men might have to clean up the room after seeing her walk out.

Raw overall gets ****1/2 from me. (out of a possible five)

Tonight's Raw can be summed up in one word, and that word is: Awesome.

Whether it be from that swerve at the end that resulted in a Miz title win, whether it be from Cena picking up what mostly everyone talks about here in the forums, engaging the fans in a "Let's go Cena" vs "Cena Sucks" or a "guys 18 and older vs women and children chant, that was just pure brilliant, and it shows that the writers do know what we talk about in here. Haha. The entire show seemed more energized tonight, and dare I say, a little less PG.

I mean we had Santino pretty much get his face kissed off by Tamina, they showed JoMo and Melina talking and Melina smacked his behind (this IMO was when I had the thought that those two should either be a duo again, or hook up with JoMe and recreate MNM - That would bring some awesome tag team action back to the show), in the Divas match, both Natalya and Alicia had on REALLY hot attire, and they got Cena cussing on here (although yes, it WAS bleeped out) Raw tonight, seemed like a Raw from like 2004, that is how awesome it was.

We're treated to an Old School 3-Hour Raw, a shocking SS PPV, an even more crazy-shocking follow up Raw, and ANOTHER 3-Hour, KING OF THE RING Raw next week. Wrestling, is looking awesome, once again.
