Remember guys Rock is more than likely held back slightly from going to town on Punk. I'm 99% sure last year with Cena he spent most of the time making Cena look as good if not better than him. Its not the same with Punk because Punk is quite clearly in Rock's league on the mic and probably the only one who is but the WWE want to make Punk look as strong as possible. I'm sure part of it is because Rock isn't as good as he was which is to be expected to be fair but I'm also sure part of it is because Rock is helping Cena and now Punk look as good as possible.

Overall Raw was a real 50/50. Roulette was so bad its unreal but the main segments were all very good I thought. I absolute love Paul Heyman, the man is incredible. Unfortunately Lesnar's return was spoiled on twitter for me but it was looking likely in last segment anyway. Punk is playing his heel role so well too and him and Rock in my opinion are getting better and better each week, working so well together now. Looking forward to the next few weeks.

Raw was a mixed bag for me. For the first Raw after the RR, I thought there was way too much cornball comedy going on.

Cesaro vs. Orton was entertaining though the ending hurt the match as you knew Miz would interfere. To me, WWE has made a mess of Miz's face turn as he's still the same smarmy asshole he was as a heel. I thought he looked weak as the special ref. To me, it came across like Miz getting revenge by helping Orton beat the guy he couldn't beat.

Sheamus vs. Sandow was okay, though I would have preferred Sandow to win. The rest of the matches/activities on the show were crap. I was especially put off with John Cena squashing Cody Rhodes. Rhodes got in ZERO offense on Cena. I just think it made him look unnecessarily weak. Here's a guy who has been a strong mid-card guy for a couple of years and has been one of the top contenders for the tag titles for the past 4 months obliterated as if he was less than nothing.

The promo segments were the saving grace of the show last night. Great intensity & emotion from CM Punk both times he was on the mic. I also like that, all in all, WWE is taking a much more serious approach with the Punk & Rock feud than Cena vs. Rock last year. While Rock still makes jokes and has tons of catchphrases, he doesn't belittle Punk in the same manner as he did Cena. He belittles him just as he's done every guy he's ever feuded with, but, Punk doesn't try to cut cutesy jokes on Rock.

Cena's promo segment was well done. I've said many times that John Cena can cut a hell of a promo when he wants to. Announcing that he was going after the WWE Championship was what we all saw coming a mile off, but at least he put over both CM Punk & The Rock as two guys that he simply hasn't been able to take out. The Shield beatdown afterward was nice, but I think it's time WWE moved them forward with a more solidified direction. Something more than the vague search for justice bit.

Paul Heyman was great on the mic last night and interacted well with Vince. Brock Lesnar showing up was a surprise and laying out Vince was a nice touch. Going forward, next week's Raw should be far more serious, probably more along the lines of what I was hoping last night's show would be. According to WWE.com, Vince suffered a "broken pelvis" after taking the F5 last night. It could be a work but it's also possible that it's legit. Looking at how Vince landed, and given his age, it's entirely plausible that he was legitimately hurt. At any rate, Lesnar's attack on Vince will ultimately be the key to Triple H coming out of his sort of self-imposed exile in order to avenge his father-in-law at WM.

For me, last night's show was a C overall.

I don't know.....I feel like if they try to move them forward too much right now, they will mess it up, like with Nexus.....They are making Shield look extremely strong, with them being able to lay out Cena, Ryback, and Sheamus in one segment before leaving. As long as there's some type of logic for taking out whoever it is, I'd like them to stay exactly where they are...they're getting an amazing rub all the way at the top of the card, and with them beating everyone down, even if it's 3 vs 1, it'll help when they finally are given a bigger role individually.

I thought the exact same thing as soon as Lesnar hit the move on him.....he looked like he came down on his side, and like you said, at his age, it might be legit.

The Terrible:

Remember when Raw Roulette used to actually be something to look forward to? Back when Bischoff did it I was always entertained... last night was just straight up terri-bad.

When you look at all the segments they did and the time they wasted you begin to wonder why the hell they didn't just let some of the matches run a little longer... Would anyone have cared if they had scrapped that awful fucking diva's match again? What was the point of that? Tamina and Kaitlyn were both standing there at the end like "WTF?"

The announcers themselves were burying the segments by saying "We promise it will get better." That's basically WWE acknowledging that their product is a pile of shit at this point, that's pretty ballsy.

The 3MB vs. Khali/Ryder/Natalya was even worse than that. How many times can you put Khali in "funny" situations before you realize he doesn't have an ounce of comedy in him? He's boring as shit. He can't walk. He can't talk. He definitely can't dance... He looked like a fucking infant standing in a crib and swaying side to side while taunting mommy.

As if Lord Tensai needed to be buried any further they dress him up in lingerie, which was a troubling scene for me. Even the gay community was like "Seriously?" Brodus Clay continues to perform the same lame shtick week after week to a lessening pop each time... Can we just team Tensai and Brodus up and kill two birds with one stone?

The Good:

-CM Punk opened RAW up the way it should have been, good promo work from him once again.

-They furthered a storyline with Miz/Cesaro, which I thought was just fine.

-Shield beat the shit out of Cena and looked dominant in dispatching Ryback and Sheamus, always a plus.

-The Rock/Punk saga continued, rematch set for Elimination Chamber. Hopefully that leads to a double-pin or something of the like setting up the triple threat at Mania.

-Jericho was pretty funny in his return segment, especially over Big E. I'm looking forward to another epic Jericho/Ziggler showdown. Hopefully Jericho can bring a little bit of life back into AJ though, maybe get her some heat.. because she's definitely losing it just by being Ziggler's kissing post and making a few remarks here and there. She's starting to remind me of Lita with less charisma and smaller tits.

-Heyman/McMahon was segment of the night by far. Heyman was his usual hilarious self, and McMahon's mannerisms continue to be top of the line. I expected Lesnar and liked the way they brought him back. It's going to ultimately lead to the Triple H rematch, especially with them going with the "broken pelvis" storyline. I'm not against that at all. Lesnar looked in a lot better shape last night than his previous appearances.

haha Punk to the booing fans

"vilify me now but in 20 years you will be calling me a genius."

Don't worry punk, we are already calling you a genius.

Unfortunately Rock doesn't have it like he used to. He was much better last night on the mic than he was at the Rumble so maybe he is going to keep improving, but his wannabe Barack Obama speeches are getting real, real tired. He needs to stick to laying the smack down and just talking smack for real. Enough of the motivation speeches talking about how great the people/crowd are.

Punk/Rock

HHH/Lesnar

Zigler/Jericho

If that is Wrestlemania I am officially back on board. Hell I pretty much already am. I really could do without the comedic acts but guys like Orton, Barret, Del Rio, Ziggler, Rhodes Scholars. These guys remind me of the old school. Not quite as great as the old school but definitely cut from the cloth with their characters and in ring skills.

The Shield doesn't have me too intrigued and I am not a huge fan of the Cena/Ryback/Shamus thing going on. I am just seeing Ryback for the first time. His feed me more thing is pretty dang funny. His entrance music kind of reminds me with Vader since it has him yelling his catch phrase to start.

Kane and Bryan is super, super played out to me. I don't even know what to say about it really. I don't like Bryan very much yet I dno maybe he will grow on me.

Ziggler is the re-incarnation of Mr Perfect/Owen Hart

Anyone notice how Ziggler voice sounds a bit like Hart when he gives promos??
Great stuff keep it coming WWE. HHH coming back will be a nice addition

One thing I wish WWE could do is form a couple other legit tag teams to feud with the Rhodes Scholars.

WWE officials are going to be pleased with the show's numbers last night. According to tvbythenumbers.com, Raw drew an average audience of 5,020,000 viewers for the night. The 8 pm hour drew an average of 4,860,000 viewers, the 9pm hour increased to 5,270,000 viewers and the 10 pm hour decreased to 4,930,000 viewers. Raw was the most viewed show on cable last night. Even not factoring in DVR numbers, last night's Raw was the most watched Raw since Raw 1,000 back in Late June. The Nielsen Ratings haven't been released yet, but that number will probably be in the 3.4 to 3.6 range.

With Brock Lesnar's returning and taking out Vince, I'm sure a lot of people will tune in to see what happens next.

And somehow, people still bitch and moan about the 'part timers' (Rock, Lesnar, Jericho, HHH, etc) coming to take WM paychecks away from the younger guys. I saw it explained somewhere on here yesterday best.....Everyone else has 10 months to impress the WWE brass into convincing them to put them in a main event spot at WM....if they don't, that's on them.

Punk's arguably the biggest full-time draw WWE has right now, which isn't saying much, and it doesn't mean he's a good draw, but it's true. Cena clearly isn't the draw he used to be, as he's been doing poorly for the past couple of months now, and I'd say it's arguable Punk is a bigger draw right now (not ALL-TIME so don't get your panties in a bunch). Ryback's the only person that may be a stronger draw than Punk right now that's full-time, but right now WWE is just going through the motions with him going into EC and we probably won't see a spotlight back on him until after Wrestlemania, so who knows. Punk has been doing well with his numbers for a while now, all except last week in the 9PM slot, which is the same week Rock's 10PM segment lost viewers, and Cena underperformed in the overrun.

Obviously Rock and Brock are far bigger draws than Punk, but nobody's saying they aren't aside from just to troll Rock marks/Punk haters who would do, and have done the same to Punk marks whenever he underperforms, which isn't as often as some think. Rock is the primary reason this week's Raw did so well, as well as the main reason Raw has gotten back up to above a 3.0, and next week we'll see if Brock can keep a hold on most of the viewers. But I think some credit can be given to the fact Punk's 434 day title reign ended and people wanted to see his reaction, some credit of course goes to the advertised Heyman/Vince segment which kept viewers past Rock for that hour from leaving to decrease the average viewership to below 5,000,000, and hell, Cena winning the Rumble, despite his weakened drawing power, probably interested people as well to see who he would choose as his opponent. Plus I'm sure even if he's not a TV draw anymore, a PPV draw is another story and a big re-match with The Rock will do really well. But that's how a show should be. Have something for every hour to interest people, not to mention it was the fallout from the Rumble which helped things a lot.

WWE Friday Night SmackDown! - February 1, 2013

Opening Segment - All in all, last night's opener was decent. Nothing particularly great but nothing bad either. Booker T had several wrestlers out there in the ring or at ringside who have all been former World Heavyweight Champions. I thought Ziggler did well in his role in using the MITB briefcase to worm out of the pending EC match. It's true that Ziggler doesn't need the match and it leaves the possibilities open for him. Jack Swagger's music hit and he comes out sporting a slightly different look. Swagger threw his hat into the ring as far as the match goes. The match itself wasn't made, but Booker T said that all the wrestlers would have a chance to impress him and earn their spot. My only complaint is that The Great Khali will probably be in this match when it's announced. Thumbs Up

1. Team Hell No vs. Rey Mysterio & Sin Cara - High energy & entertaining tag match to start off the in-ring action. Mysterio & Sin Cara haven't been around all that much for a little while, but both were crisp last night. Mysterio seemed especially on his game. Bryan & Kane worked well and were generally cast as the "heels" for this match since San Diego is Mysterio's hometown. It was especially fun watching Bryan in there with the luchadores, Late in the match, Bryan manages to trap Mysterio in the Yes/No Lock. Mysterio is on the verge of tapping when Sin Cara comes to break things up. Sin Cara goes back out to take care of Kane. Mysterio gets the upper hand, lands the 619 and Drops the Dime on Bryan to score the clean win at the 11 minute mark. **3/4

2. The Great Khali vs. Jinder Mahal - Typical 2 minute Khali match. Nothing more and nothing less with Khali getting the win. NA

Backstage Segment - There was a brief segment featuring Booker T, Teddy Long and Team Rhodes Scholars. Rhodes & Sandow announced that they were breaking up as a team, but that they'd remain best friends. They hugged it out for a while, with Booker T announcing that Sandow would go 1 on 1 with Sheamus before cracking up at his own lame "road kill" joke. It's a shame to see TRS break up. NA

3. Sheamus vs. Damien Sandow - Good physical match while it lasted. As he's back to being a singles wrestler, Sandow was back to being more aggressive than we've seen him in the several months he's been teaming with Cody Rhodes. Sandow took the fight to Sheamus rather than sort of playing hit & run as we've seen him do against Sheamus in the past. About the 3.5 minute mark, Sheamus goes for the "Clubberin'" when The Shield's music hits. Sandow gets out of the ring as The Shield begins to attack. Sheamus catches Seth Rollins with the Brogue Kick and takes him out of the attack. He holds his own with Reigns & Ambrose initially, but they're able to get the best of him after Ambrose grabs Sheamus by the legs and takes him down. Rollins is able to recover enough to help deliver the Triple Powerbomb to Sheamus. Rollins does a good job of selling the Brogue Kick throughout the time he's out there. I'm glad he didn't just "shake it off" once he got back to his feet as if it was nothing. Little things like that make a lot of difference. The match was short, but good while it lasted. **

4. Randy Orton vs. Wade Barrett - This was an okay match, though not anywhere near as good as we've seen from them. The match only went to the 5 minute mark with Orton ultimately scoring the win via the RKO. I expected Orton to win so he could "impress" Booker T to earn a spot in the EC match, but the match simply should've been longer. After all, Barrett defeated Orton a few weeks ago on Raw clean. **

5. Kofi Kingston vs. Jack Swagger - Great match from these two, much better than I was expecting. Swagger doesn't look like he's lost a step and his style meshed well against Kofi's high flying style. Swagger was aggressive here and it suits him in my opinion. Kofi is someone that's got good chemistry with just about anybody and I do wish WWE would do more with him. The end of the match came with Kofi & Swagger outside. Kofi goes for Trouble in Paradise but Swagger dodges, causing Kofi's foot to collide with the announce table. Swagger tosses Kofi back inside and puts him in the ankle lock. Kofi fights for a bit but ultimately taps at the 7.5 minute mark. Serious Swagger is good Swagger in my opinion. ***

Alberto Del Rio & Big Show - Throughout the night, they showed Alberto Del Rio out back waiting for Show with a pipe in his hands. Late in the show, Del Rio hides behind some cars as Big Show's bus pulls up. As Big Show steps out, Del Rio attacks. Del Rio showed great intensity here, though I'm not wild about Big Show being skiddish about facing him. Granted, Del Rio was holding a pipe and had attacked him with it. They demolish the car and I couldn't help but laugh at Big Show trying to fit into the car. Show eventually winds up "stealing" some guy's car and manages to drive off. Fun little brawl and, as I said, great intensity from Del Rio. Thumbs Up

6. Alberto Del Rio vs. Dolph Ziggler - Excellent match, though I'm not at all surprised. Ziggler is solid gold in the ring and I can't for the life of me figure out why WWE hasn't pulled the trigger with him. Del Rio & Ziggler meshed very well with each other and, frankly, I'm surprised at how quickly Del Rio has gotten over as a babyface. He certainly is much fresher than he's been in a very long time. Both Ziggler & Del Rio got in lots of offense and, frankly, they made each other look good. At one point, Big E. Langston is sent backstage by the ref after he attempted to climb up on the apron. The last few minutes of the match were especially good with Ziggler & Del Rio each scoring some great near falls. The end comes at the 14 minute mark with Ziggler taps out to Del Rio's Cross Armbar. As Del Rio celebrates, Big Show pops up on the screen with Ricardo backstage. Show does great on the mic here when he's threatening Ricardo if Del Rio doesn't stay where he is. Ricardo has gotten over quickly as well, so seeing Show threaten & bully him was a great way to score some heat. Show eventually hits Ricardo with the KO Punch and walks off. The show ends with Del Rio calling for a doctor as they look over Ricardo's prone body. ***1/2

Final Thoughts - I thought SD! was a lot of fun last night. I wasn't wild about Orton beating Barrett in 5 minutes or the probability that the Great Khali will be in the EC match. Aside from that, the show was very solid. The opening tag match was a lot of fun with great energy. Jack Swagger's match with Kofi was very entertaining and I hope they keep going in this direction with Swagger. He's much better as a serious & aggressive heel. The main event with Ziggler & Del Rio was a strong match. I wish they'd have given Ziggler the win. All they'd needed to do was have Big Show pop up on the screen to distract Del Rio and allow Ziggler to score a win. But the match was still great and, just as with Sheamus, Big Show's feud with Del Rio is much better than I was expecting. Del Rio is showing the kind of aggression that I personally would love to see from Sheamus as a babyface. A fun two hours of wrestling for last night.

Grade: B+

What is your proof that Cena is weakening as a draw? I'm not arguing, I'm just interested. Do you have access to their merch sales? Is his quarter hour segment lower than the one before and after his? At the time in the show, is that normal? What else was on TV at the time. If you are going to do analysis, show your work.

I loved this week's Raw. Had a fantastic mix of everything. Real good Punk promo at the beginning. Two REAL good matches with Punk/Jericho and Mysterio/Bryan. Interesting stuff with Team Hell No looking like they'll break up. Mark Henry looked great in his return and got a pretty good pop. Lesnar is becoming a sort of boogie man that comes out and saves Heyman which I love. The ending segment with the Shield was pretty awesome. Maddox was really good on the mic, showing a mix of narcissism/craziness. I'm hoping for a 3 on 3 War Games style chamber match between Shield and Cena/Sheamus/Rawdog. The running story with Big Show/ADR was solid.

I really don't see how anyone can shit on this show (but they will). It was at the least, solid. Best Raw of 2013 at best.

Raw last night was high quality, you want to know why? It left out the lame comedy and diva matches and focused on putting on decent matches and furthering storylines. The only disappointment was that there was no Rock or Ziggler but with latter having him interfere in the Punk v Jericho match would have spoiled a great match.
Orton could do with a decent storyline, I expect him to win at Elimination Chamber and then turn heel to face Del Rio at wrestlemania. Speaking of Del Rio I am kind of enjoying his feud with Show now that it's gotten personal. On a side note, why did it take Show so long to eat that meal?!
CM Punk was once again gold on the mic and in the ring and Jericho looked strong too. Heyman on Miz TV was also gold and Lesnar is so menacing and believable as a indestructible badass.
The end of the show was excellent because it seemed like super Cena and friends were going to destroy the Shield but I'm so glad that didn't happen. The fact that the Shield were surrounded by the top faces and then the entire locker room yet they still escaped reasonably unscathed builds them even more as a force. Not only are they a devastating unit they are also clever enough to know when to make their escape.
The only negative I had was the feeding of Cesaro and Barrett to Ryback and Orton. They are the respective mid-card champions and they should be treated better than that, it makes them look weak.

WWE Raw - February 4, 2013

Opening Segment - More great stuff on the mic from CM Punk to start Raw off. Punk continues to put on, in my opinion, the most entertaining promos in wrestling right now. I also like how he constantly goes after the fans, especially in this one, while always making sure to put over the importance of the WWE Championship. Punk also took issue with Vince McMahon & his video of Paul Heyman interacting with Brad Maddox & The Shield. I thought his line about Heyman in the video being a CGI or actor Paul Giamatti was pretty funny. Booker T comes out, for some reason, and, after stumbling over his words a bit, informs CM Punk that he'll be part of a WWE Active match in which the fans will determine which former WM opponent he'll face on the show. The choices are Rey Mysterio, Randy Orton & Chris Jericho. Punk played up the voting aspect by insulting the fans and WWE did a great job of hyping this thing throughout the show. Fans would vote via the WWE App. Thumbs Up

1. Antonio Cesaro vs. Ryback - Antonio Cesaro frequently gets good matches out of Ryback and, all in all, this one wasn't any different. It wasn't a great match, but it was a pretty solid effort from both guys. I would have liked to have seen Cesaro get in some more of his signature moves on Ryback aside from the Very European Uppercut, but he got in a good amount of offense and he sold Ryback's offense well. Personally, I would have liked to have seen The Shield interfere in this match and have Ryback win via DQ rather than Cesaro losing clean. The WWE has protected Cesaro well during his matches with Ryback on Main Event, but I guess they figured Ryback needed a decisive win on Raw. After landing a couple of Meathook clotheslines, Ryback puts Cesaro in Shellshocked for the win at about the 10 minute mark. I know WWE is hoping for Ryback to be a top guy in the long term, but there are other guys they could use besides their mid-card champs to get the top guys over while still putting on good matches. **1/4

John Cena & Vickie Guerrero - This was a brief backstage segment in which Cena is watching a monitor backstage after having viewed a good Shield vignette. Vickie comes up to him and tells him that she heard a rumor that he's going to call out The Shield later tonight. Cena did a good job here in my eyes. I very much prefer Cena when he's more serious, that's when he does his best promo work in my opinion. There wasn't anything outstanding here, but it was a good segment that advertised what will probably be a hot segment for the show. Since they didn't say when it would happen, and that the commentators would hype the impending confrontation throughout the night, fans would have to keep glued to the show to see it go down. Thumbs Up

2. Santino Marella vs. Jack Swagger - This was basically a Swagger showcase match to sort of reintroduce him to Raw. I really like the direction they're going with Swagger. He was all business out there. The new aggression & intensity he's showing is, in my opinion, what they should've been doing with him for years now. I also like how he didn't even allow Santino to get out of the gate with any of his comedy stuff. Santino started to do the power walk bit but was quickly stopped. Swagger decimates Santino in about 90 seconds before finishing him with the ankle lock, which he now calls the Patriot Act. The match was way too short to be ranked but, as I said, I like this direction they're going with Swagger so far. NA

3. Alberto Del Rio vs. Cody Rhodes - A surprisingly decent match while it lasted. I honestly figured that Del Rio would blow through Cody Rhodes like nothing since John Cena did last week without Rhodes getting in any offense whatsoever. The match was brief, but they packed in a good deal of action into the time they were given and had a nice back & forth match for a bit. There were a couple of good, believable near falls in the match, such as when Del Rio nailed Cody with his mini super kick and when Cody nailed Del Rio with the Beautiful Disaster. Del Rio eventually gets the upper hand and puts Cody in the Cross Armbar for the win. Del Rio addressed the fans afterward and pandered to them for a bit. It didn't really go over all that well but Del Rio is trying. Big Show appeared on the Titantron and informed Del Rio that he was in his hotel room. Show continues to do good promo work in my opinion. I like how he brushed off Del Rio's threats and his attack this past Friday by saying that he simply doesn't want to hurt Del Rio because, if he does, he won't be able to get his title back. It's a heel explanation but one that's logical. After all, if Show takes out Del Rio, something that the fans know Show is capable of doing, then Show won't have a chance to win his title back. He informs Del Rio that he'll face him but that he wants Del Rio to get up with Booker T and have a contract for a title match at Elimination Chamber drawn up. All in all, a decent little match and solid promo work from Show. **

4. Daniel Bryan vs. Rey Mysterio - Very solid outing from Bryan & Mysterio. They didn't go all out here as I was hoping they would, but it was still an entertaining match. They worked well together and both wrestlers were able to put in a lot of offense on the other. Prior to this match, Kane & Bryan had a confrontation backstage in which they blame each other for ultimately losing the non title match to Mysterio & Sin Cara on SD! this past Friday. Bryan informed Kane that, no matter what, he didn't want him coming out there tonight. Mysterio got in much of his signature offense on Bryan with Bryan taking it well. Eventually Mysterio manages to hit the 619 and does up top to Drop the Dime on Bryan. At the last instant, however, Bryan moves out of the way and Rey goes splat. Bryan quickly capitalizes by putting Mysterio in the No Lock, forcing Mysterio to tap. Bryan scores the clean win about the 9 minute mark. I figured Mysterio would go over here, but I'm glad they gave Bryan the clean victory here. Suddenly, Mark Henry's music hits and he comes walking out to a pretty good pop. However, he's in full monster mode as he brushes aside Daniel Bryan as Bryan confronts him. Henry goes into the ring and begins to slaughter Mysterio. This is the Mark Henry that was dominating WWE in the second half of 2011 and was one of the most pleasant surprises of the year. Henry goes for the Vader Bomb but Mysterio is able to slink out and manage some offense before Henry takes him down. Sin Cara comes out to help but ultimately eats the World's Strongest Slam. Mysterio eats the move as well eventually, while Henry talks smack to him and to the fans during the beatdown and as he's walking out. A good match from Bryan & Mysterio and a return from Mark Henry that made an impact. ***

Kane & Daniel Bryan - Kane is walking backstage when Bryan comes up to him and asks him why he wasn't out there to help him with Henry. Kane replies that Bryan told him not to come out and Bryan asked when did Kane ever listen to him? The segment got some laughs and showed some more of the surprisingly good chemistry they have together. Kane gets serious and informs Bryan that nothing is more powerful than their friendship. Bryan appears touched for a moment and asks Kane if he really means it, with Kane replying "Hell no", which the crowd pops for. He walks off with Bryan sulking. Nice little segment that keeps moving along towards the eventual implosion of Team Hell No. Thumbs Up

5. Kane vs. Sheamus - Pretty good big man match while it lasted. Kane & Sheamus went back & forth a lot with each getting in a good amount of offense. Kane looked strong here as it seemed that he had an answer for just about whatever Sheamus had to throw at him. There was a nice sequence towards the end of the match in which they countered each other's power move attempts before Kane ultimately manages to hit the DDT. As he's setting up for the chokeslam, Daniel Bryan runs out and gets on the apron. He provides a distraction and Kane winds up eating the Brogue Kick. Sheamus picks up the win at the 4 minute mark. Bryan shouts at Kane that he's sorry but has a big grin on his face. **

MizTV - I thought MizTV was an overall fun segment last night. Paul Heyman continues to do some of the best mic work of his career. His bickering with The Miz felt a little flat at first but it picked up after Heyman really got rolling, especially with Heyman feigning concern over Vince McMahon. Miz accuses Heyman of setting up Lesnar's attack on Vince last week, only for Vickie Guerrero to interrupt them. She comes into the ring and says that what happened wasn't Heyman's fault, but she blamed herself. She informs everyone that she "signed" Brock Lesnar to a new deal last Monday. She was keeping it quiet and wanted it to be a surprise as she wanted to impress Vince in the hopes that he'd make her permanent GM of Raw. Vickie started to cry for a bit & Heyman comforted her. I laughed my ass off when Paul Heyman suggested that everyone pray for Vince, especially when he started to pray. Miz interrupted and blasted both of them for being slimy bottom feeders. Brock Lesnar's music hit soon after and he comes out to a big pop. Vickie & Heyman clear the ring but Miz stands his ground. He & Lesnar have a stare down before Miz shoves Lesnar once Lesnar gets too close. Lesnar loses it and waffles Miz with a clothesline. He then tosses Miz roughly out of the ring before he starts throwing furniture out afterward. Miz gets back into the ring after a bit and attacks Lesnar, landing a few good shots before Lesnar gains the upper hand and delivers the F5. Heyman tries to call Lesnar off as he stands over a prone Miz. Lesnar leaves with Heyman and I like the idea of Vickie being responsible for Lesnar being back. It takes the storyline in the direction of Lesnar being this beast that's taking initiative on his own rather than being the monster puppet that's being controlled. To me, it makes Lesnar seem all the more dangerous. Thumbs Up

6. Wade Barrett vs. Randy Orton - I don't know what happened as the satellite went on the fritz. I do know that Barrett lost again, which is unfortunate. Can't WWE find two guys to put over top guys other than their mid-card champs? NA

7. Chris Jericho vs. CM Punk - This was an excellent outing from these two just as I was hoping it'd be. WWE did a good job of hyping this match throughout the show. If they put this sort of effort into it, I wouldn't mind seeing a WWE Active match on Raw each week. The match felt like a big deal and both men wrestled it like it was a big deal. The match was pretty much an ideal tv match that had good set up, a couple of really over stars going at it, some great athleticism, good storytelling, both guys looking strong and a strong finish. There was a pretty vocal "this is awesome" chant during this match and both men worked hard. Both Punk & Jericho locked in their signature submission holds on the other at various times. They sold the moves well and built up the drama of potentially tapping out before each was able to reach the ropes. Late in the match, Jericho goes for the Walls again but Punk is able to twist out of it and sent Jericho crashing into a turnbuckle. Punk grabs Jericho and tosses him through the turnbuckles so that his shoulder collides with the ring post. Jericho pulls himself out only for Punk to hoist him up and deliver the GTS for the clean win at the 15 minute mark. Again, Jericho excels in a situation where he lost but doesn't lose any steam whatsoever and Punk gains a big win on television over a top rated opponent. ***3/4

Bruno Sammartion HOF Announcement - WWE did a great job of hyping this announcement throughout the show. I was legitimately surprised at how much mainstream attention this garnered. They were talking about this on ESPN and even on CBS earlier in the day. The video was another well done WWE piece. When WWE takes its lineage seriously, such as it does with these HOF videos, it really does a second to none job at hyping it. The live crowd responded big time and it got a good pop rather than the polite applause that makes up most HOF induction videos. There was a pretty vocal "Bruno" chant going on. This is a real father in the cap of Triple H and I have a feeling that he's worked his ass off to get Bruno to join up finally. This is shaping up to be the biggest HOF class in WWE history thus far. Mick Foley & Trish Stratus are both beloved by fans all over while Sammartino & Bob Backlund are the two longest reigning champions in WWE history. I'd say that Triple H is the one mainly responsible for putting this HOF class together thus far and, because of that, WWE is making this year feel like an especially big deal. Thumbs Up

Big Show & Alberto Del Rio - Big Show is in his hotel room having just finished dinner when the courier with the contract finally shows up. The courier tries to tell Show something but Show keeps interrupting him. Show signs the contract and opens the door only for Del Rio to attack. Del Rio pulls Show out into the hall and they begin fighting. Show soon gains the upper hand, including delivering what looked like a kick to the nuts. Del Rio went down and sold Show's attack well. Show beats Del Rio down for a bit before breaking a small table in the hall and rips off one of the legs. Del Rio pops up and sprays a fire extinguisher in Show's face before slamming the extinguisher into him. I think Del Rio was supposed to hit show with it while under the cover of the white spray so that it'd look like he hit Show in the head. However, you can clearly see that Del Rio hits him in the shoulder and Show is "knocked out". While the timing wasn't great, it was a solid segment. I'm enjoying this feud more than Show vs. Sheamus because of Del Rio believe it or not. He's taking this feud more personally and more seriously than Sheamus did and it shows. Thumbs Up

John Cena Confronts The Shield - Back in the ring, Brad Maddox is standing in the ring and sort of tells his story of how he was lured in by Paul Heyman as someone who was taken advantage of. Maddox eventually calls himself the "hero" of the story and calls out The Shield. The Shield comes out and make their way down towards the ring. Both Rollins & Ambrose do some brief, but good work on the mic before they quickly decimate Brad Maddox. John Cena's music hits and The Shield stands ready in the ring. Cena doesn't come out on stage but rather he comes out through the crowd like The Shield does. Seconds after, Ryback's music hits and he comes down through the crowd. After that, Sheamus' music hits and he comes out the same way. The Shield leave the ring and are about to head back up the ramp but several wrestlers come out on stage to block them including Randy Orton, Kane, Daniel Bryan and some others. The Shield get back in the ring and are surrounded. Cena, Ryback & Sheamus circle the ring before climbing in. All six men start to brawl and it's a pretty even fight all in all. The Shield eventually get out of the ring and head out with the three babyfaces standing in the ring. I like how this brawl went down as it kept The Shield looking strong while ultimately handing them their first "loss". They didn't look like they were scurrying out of the ring but rather they just decided to leave after fighting the faces to a standstill. I'm also glad that they didn't go the route of having the other wrestlers come to join in and help beat The Shield down so they could all take turns decimating them. Thumbs Up

Final Thoughts - I thought last night's Raw was really strong overall. I didn't see much on the show to complain about. I wasn't wild about Cesaro & Barrett losing clean to put over a couple of the top guys, but that's really it. I thought the promo segments on the show were really well done and entertaining. I was expecting a couple of good promo segments and WWE delivered. Wrestling action on the show was strong overall with Bryan vs. Mysterio & Punk vs. Jericho both being highly entertaining, especially the latter. The WWE made Punk vs. Jericho feel important by hyping it consistently throughout the show. Ryback vs. Cesaro was pretty good. I didn't get to see Orton vs. Barrett due to technical issues. Del Rio vs. Rhodes was surprisingly decent while it lasted as was Sheamus vs. Kane. The MizTV segment was well done overally. They didn't give too much away in this one segment, which works for me. Even though I'm not high on Miz's current character, I did like that he didn't back down from Lesnar and was willing to take the fight to him. I also like the direction WWE is going with Jack Swagger and wish they'd have done it sooner. Mark Henry made his return and made a big impact in doing so. The brawl at the end of the show was well executed in my eyes. It gave The Shield their first "set back" if you want to call it that without causing them to lose any heat. Next week, I expect they'll announce some sort of six man tag match between Cena, Sheamus & Ryback against The Shield. The Bruno Sammartino HOF announcement felt like a big deal and WWE hyped it that way. I can't say I'm a huge Sammartino fan, but he deserves to be in the HOF and I'm glad that, for whatever reason, things have been patched up enough to where he's finally agreed to take his rightful place.

Grade: A-

Last night's Raw definitely had its bright moments! The Show/Del Rio segments were great! Jericho/Punk was extremely solid, Mark Henry returning will throw a few curve balls into upcoming storylines, which is (mostly) always a good thing...

..However, there was ONE thing that really bothered me and I can tell by the positive reviews of what I'm about to bash, that this will get a lot of negative feedback...

The ending segment, IMO, was TERRRRRRIBLE for WWE at this time. Multiple things wrong with what they did regarding the Shield last night - almost reminds me of how they rushed the Nexus storyline to a complete Hault (After already weakening them)

Firstly - giving them all mics? Having them explain themselves and talk about "Justice"? Really?! Why? We don't want to hear anything regarding the Shield, we dont want to think of them as anything other than a mysterious, ruthless stable that strikes whenever neccessary! I thought that was a very risky thing to do, one slip up on the mic and it would stick with that person for the remainded of The Shield.

Secondly - You say they held their own vs the baby faces... I think otherwise... They immediately tried to run for higher ground (making it now obvious that they fear Cena and Sheamus) where they were stopped in their tracks by some mid carders at the top of the ramp. After getting back into the ring, the baby faces CLEARLY had the advantage in the fight and the Shield were sent - cowering back up the stairs, into the crowd.

Thirdly - this has NOTHING to do with ANY sort of story progression. Do we really need the Shield to be disbanded by Cena? We get it. Cena is amazing and super hero-like and the face of a franchise and blah blah blah... but c'mon. Enough is enough. Let him stick with The Rock. Build a new program with Sheamus and if anyone is to start something with the Shield, make it Ryback. He has nothing really going on, let that be his spotlight/breakthrough.

IMO - it made The Shield appear weak and too much of an "individual" feeling for my liking. I feel it was FAR too soon to have the "WWE Locker room (of course led by cena)vs the Heel Stable" storyline come into play.

But I'll agree, the rest of the show developed nicely and I think we can, for the most part, be excited for the things to come in the next few weeks, leading up to EC.

Some beefs I had with this episode:

-CM Punk kinda lost the crowd in his promo, and it definitely was one of his weaker sections all in all... Booker T stumbling upon himself when trying to make an announcement didn't help at all. That might just have been the crowd being really really odd/quiet yesterday though.

-For a long time, nothing really happened, and for quite a few shows now it seemed like WWE had nothing to fill those three hours with except for endless video packages that get repeated over and over again.

-The US champion as well as the IC champion still jobbing to the "superheroes". It's blatantly obvious that those titles count for absolutely nothing.

-I fear The Shield will get the same treatment The Nexus did after the episode set up a likely 3on3 Elimination Chamber match. There's no way in hell The Shield's gonna beat Cena, Sheamus and Ryback, and I just don't want them to fade into obscurity never to be seen again - let them be involved in some other story line please, so they don't just get buried at EC... which I fear will happen.

-Miz was just way way out of his league with how great a performer Paul Heyman was or is. I feel like in general, Miz is kinda screwed at this point because Miz TV fails repeatedly, and he just does not work as a face at all - he didn't even change ANYTHING from his heel persona.

All in all it was solid, but not golden. Nice matches, CM Punk vs. Chris Jericho was fantastic and although the mid-card champions jobbing to the WWE superheroes is disappointing, the matches themselves were pretty damn good. Also liking the Lesnar development.

Raw continues to pull in strong ratings this year. Though it's WM season and WWE should be scared to death if they weren't pulling better numbers than they were during the Fall when Monday Night Football was laying the smack down on everything on Monday nights.

The numbers for last night's show are coming in and Raw had another strong night. The 8 pm hour drew an audience of 4,863,000 viewers. The 9 pm hour drew 4,857,000 viewers. The 10 pm hour drew 4,711,000 viewers. So, all in all, last night's Raw drew an average audience of roughly 4,810,000 viewers. It was down from last week's 5,020,000 viewers, but it shows that WWE did generate a good amount of interest in the follow up to Brock Lesnar. It was also a strong number considering The Rock wasn't on the show last night to further hype his upcoming match with CM Punk.

As far as what that equals in the ratings, it'll probably be somewhere in the neighborhood of a 3.5 Nielsen rating.

I also loved Raw this past week. The whole buildup to the Raw Active Jericho Punk Rematch was great and the match was worthy of ...well Wrestlemania. It really felt like a mega mainevent. I felt it was a Monday Night show from the days when WWF battled WCW. The Punk Jericho match was a classic. Punk's promos were great, The Shield is really growing to be a major heel force in the WWE and I enjoyed the storyline revolving around Paul Heyman. This Raw was so good I immediately watched it beginning to end right after it was finished which I don't even do for pay per views half the time and very seldom for TV Shows. Lesnar and Jericho had great performances and everyone eles is seeming to step it up, great job.

So far Raw is really good. BRUTAL bump Ryder took on the floor. Although I question swaggers allegiance to the racist character, not that it's not good, just the wrong time. I mean, trying to get a guy over as a heel by saying racist things....in Tennessee? Borderline baby face turn.

RAW was an average wrestling show tonight, but it wasn't without its high notes. Tonight marked the return of the one of the all-time great mouthpieces and minds of the wrestling industry: "Dirty" Dutch Mantell. I've been wondering for a while what they were going to do to try and bring Swagger up in the ranks, and this is definitely a step in the right direction.

If there was ever a way to get Alberto Del Rio more over as a face and get Jack Swagger the heel heat he's always desired... it's a feud between Del Rio/Swagger heading toward Wrestlemania with Dutch Mantell spitting venom on the microphone.

Jericho/Bryan was a great match that made me want to see the two work a program before Jericho goes back on tour. I'd like to see what they can do with 20-25 minutes to work without commercials.

Elimination Chamber match is shaped up to be pretty interesting... Henry, Bryan, Orton, Swagger, Kane, and Jericho. As I said before, the person that could gain the most from this would be Swagger. But Jericho could steal it and work Del Rio as a heel just as easily.

The Shield worked the microphone entirely too long... I found myself wishing Roman Reigns would shut up. He seems so unnatural on the mic and his over-the-top screaming reminds me of Hogan and not in a good way. Rollins was weak on the mic as well, and the only person that really came away from it looking good was Ambrose, who is destined to be a big hit with the WWE audience.

Rock's promo at the end was another "WTF?" moment ala Royal Rumble, but it was funny nonetheless. Good to see Punk end the show strong..

The rest was just filler.

I agree with pretty much everything you said. It was also a better show than the last two weeks.

What continues to bug me is that the heels still rarely win. I guess Ziggler is done for. All that build for naught or they will turn him face and give him a belt like they did with ADR.

It is not good when your three top guys are not getting much crowd support. The promos were far too long. I am a Punk mark but that beginning nearly made me change the channel. The first 40 minutes consisted of that and a Great Khali match and then right when the Jericho/Bryan match picked up they went to break.

At least the secondary title holders did not lose as per usual tonight. I liked how the Antonio/Miz scenario played out. Wade is treated as a jobber for the most part but I liked his match and his angle with Bo Dallas has potential.

The WWE is still schizo though: Show grovels to Vince then goes on a tear, kicking ass. But then will lose. Rinse-repeat. He should be building guys but so should Kane.

It really does not behoove the WWE for the biggest pop to be for a part-timer. It shows they have a lot of work to do. There is a lot of potential for the young guys but who knows where they are going. Crowd was hottest for Jericho and the Rock. Tensai and Brodus did not get a response from what I saw.

Ever think that part of the reason they get such a big pop is because they're part timers? Christmas wouldn't be that awesome if it came every day.

Raw was solid again. Good mix of good mic work, story development, and good matches.

I don't disagree with you at all. I am a huge fan of Jericho and Rock. But they got the biggest pops by far. That is not good long-term is all. You have Sheamus, Ryback and Cena and the response was middling at best. I just feel that the WWE is stuck in a rut, mostly of their own doing. They have all this talent and a lot of young guys coming up but not properly being built or utilized. If you are trying to be facetious because my opinion differs from yours then more power to you. For years Christmas came every day with Austin, the Rock, Hogan and Sting and Goldberg and others. Like I said it seems that the WWE is rudderless at times.

ADR is now a grinning face. Just happy all the time. Sandow has a shit load of talent and they broke up the tag team, and now he seems to be jobbing every week. Other than Punk and now Henry who they bring back, and is in the down part of his career are the only strong heels. I hope the Shield will be given a fair shake and we will see on Sunday.

I hope Jack Hammer can get my old name back for me but I thought I'd use this one to post on tonight's Raw.

Last week was only the 2nd episode of Raw I have watched in nearly 6 months and I thought it was a good show, this weeks wasn't quite as strong but still a good leap ahead of the Raw I watched at the start of the year.

At 3 hours I just cannot remember the run order so I'm just going to comment on what I liked and didn't. The opening promo from Heyman and Punk was fun, it's probably leading somewhere but given Punk's Pope comment I don't know if these two were just running a skit.

Bryan vs Jericho was an excellent match and I'd love to see them get more time on a PPV. Jericho winning made sense and strengthened the Chamber match.

Booker heeling on Teddy was odd.

I've enjoyed Swagger's return and while I don't see him as a face I did think that his Real American stuff being pushed to the forefront was going to lead to him vs Cesaro over the US title with Swagger getting the Patriotism rub....but no, apparently he's been hanging out with a racist redneck during his time away and is basically now a white supremacist heel. Tennessee was an odd choice of location to debut this and I'm not sure it's a gimmick suited to PG era WWE.

One thing I've noticed is Lawler has become even more unbearable on commentary, him and Cole are toxic, I wish they'd move JBL to Raw so we could have someone that sounds like an adult call the action. It was particularly bad from Lawler during the Shield vs the Superfriends segment, and him and Cole were like two teen girls at a Bieber concert when Rock came out, their audible giggling at his juvenile jokes was cringe worthy.

I didn't catch 3MB vs the Superfriends but I saw the finish with all 3 hitting their big moves, Vince must have bust out the lube for that visual. The post match promo was mostly generic scripted soundbytes.

The simple little story between Barrett and Bo Dallas is working quite well and I thought Barrett vs Kofi was solid with a cool Finlay inspired finish.

Miz is terrible as a face and I think Cesaro could do with a manager and it wouldn't hurt to get rid of his dated gimmick, however him swinging Miz over and over into the barricade was the funniest thing on the show, they need to focus more on his beastly strength and less on how much he hates Americans.

I get why Khali vs Henry happened but after his awesome return I wish they'd booked him with someone who could have made him look good in his first Raw match back. This was a stinker but Henry murderlizing Swaggle post-match was great, somewhere King Kong Bundy was smiling.

The Shield's promo was very good, Rollins has come a long way on the mic since his Tyler Black days, Reigns was ok but should just stick to growling and looking like a beast. Ambrose is on a whole other level, there is money to be made off that strange young man. The brawl with the Superfriends was decent and should lead to the 6 man tag becoming a Chamber match.

Where is the Divas champion? I've not seen her at all since my brief return to watching WWE.

I imagine Ziggler lost to Kane because he's gonna cash in on Bertie at the PPV, or maybe he just lost because that's what he does most of time, personally I wish he'd won as it would have added extra quality to the Chamber match this Sunday....The finish perhaps hinted at an imminent rift between Dolph and Urkel on roids.

The closing segment was a bit boring, Rock was apparently going to address the shocking stip added to his title defense, however he spent 10 minutes sucking up to Nasville with an unfunny story that sounded like it was written by some film student who idolizes Quentin Tarantino. Finally Punk came out to remind Rock they had a match for that gold monstrosity over his shoulder, Rock makes a limp Twilight joke that I didn't get as unlike him I've never seen the films, then they had a brief brawl that did it's job, Heyman showed his worth by hooking Rock's foot and allowing Punk to get the advantage. Then Punk left with the belt to continue his delusional arc as Lawler and Cole yelled into their headsets, their voices filled with tearful outrage!

All in all a solid show that sets the PPV up reasonably well.

WWE Raw - February 11, 2013

Opening Segment - Even though the opening segment dragged for a little bit, at least to me, it featured more excellent work on the mic from Paul Heyman and CM Punk. Heyman has truly shined in his role since coming back to WWE and the nothing that, for a while, last night was the last time he was going to be on Raw created a little suspense for me. Punk came out and, at some points, his exchange with Heyman seemed genuinely emotional. When Heyman said that he loved CM Punk and the long hug they shared later, I figured there'd be some sort of juvenile gay chants from the Nashville crowd. Thankfully, it didn't do down that way, nor did The Rock do it later on in the night. A little longer than I thought necessary, but the continued strong mic work more than made up for it. Thumbs Up

1. The Great Khali vs. Mark Henry - The match was far too short to really rank, thank goodness. Khali got in some chops but it was mostly about making Henry look dominant, which they did. Henry wins in probably about 90 seconds with the World's Strongest Slam. He talks some smack as he's leaving but turns back towards the ring. He slips back in and comes up behind Hornswoggle before delivering another WSS. As they were cutting away, you could hear a pretty decent "one more time" chant. The match was quick, painless and made Henry look like a beast. NA

Backstage Segments - There were a couple of brief, backstage promo segments that took place next. The first one featured Jericho telling Booker T & Teddy Long that they should put him in the EC given that he's a 6 time World Champion and has been in so many EC matches. Teddy gives him the thumbs up but Booker nixes the idea and tells him that he has to earn his spot like everyone else. Teddy whispers in Booker's ear on an idea he has, only for Booker to call it stupid. Teddy tells Jericho that he'll face Daniel Bryan. The next one features Vickie Guerrero & Paul Heyman. Heyman seems like his usual bottom feeding self and asks Vickie to make a stipulation for the match. Before she can reply, she gets a call on her phone from Vince McMahon. Heyman kisses Vince's ass for a few seconds before being told to shut up. He asks Heyman what he has in mind, so he informs Vince that he feels the title should be stripped from The Rock if he gets disqualified or counted out. Vince agrees to the stip before hanging up. The first promo segment set up what could be a fun match and the second one adds a stipulation designed to draw people to the title match at EC as there's even more of a chance The Rock could lose. Thumbs Up

2. Chris Jericho vs. Daniel Bryan - Great back & forth effort that I could have watched for another 20-30 minutes without getting the least bit bored. The live crowd was eating the match up and were heavily behind both guys. Bryan was much more aggressive & serious here than we've seen him, at least most of the time since he's been partnered with Kane, and I'm hoping it's an indication of the direction they go with him after Team Hell No implodes. While it wasn't as good as Punk vs. Jericho, I think it could have been if it had gone as long. There were some good near falls here & there and Bryan showed a good deal of toughness when he powered out of the Walls of Jericho and managed to counter into an attempt in putting him in the Yes/No Lock. I don't think the result of the match was much of a surprise with Jericho picking up the win as the commentators kept saying he needed the win in order to get into the EC match. Jericho picks up the win after hitting the Codebreaker out of nowhere just a bit before the 11 minute mark. ***1/4

3. John Cena, Sheamus & Ryback vs. 3MB - This turned out exactly as I figured it would. The match only went about 3 minutes and featured the babyfaces dominating 3MB. However, it didn't bother me really. It was just basic booking to get three top guys in front of an already hot crowd and to show that they're a cohesive unit. Their brief promos at the end of the match were simple and effective with each of them showing a good amount of intensity for their match against The Shield. NA

Big Show - This was really the only part of the show that turned me off up to that point. Show comes out in a suit to be interviewed and lays out Matt Striker. Show sells his anger & frustration at the live crowd with his facial expressions & body language well. He doesn't say a word but, frankly, it turned me off because this is always what they seem to do with Big Show. He's gone from being a heartless monster to, yet again, being someone that's thrown off his game by seemingly letting the fans get to him. He complains about being unfairly treated by management and fans and all that. It just doesn't work for me with Show. They've done it too many times in too many title feuds. Thumbs Down

4. Zack Ryder vs. Jack Swagger - A brief but pretty decent match while it lasted between the two. Ryder got in more offense against Swagger than most of Swagger's recent opponents and they packed a good amount of action into the match. I continue to like this new direction they're taking with Swagger. I was surprised to see Zeb Coulter, AKA Dirty Dutch Mantel, out there with him. Swagger eventually gets the win via the Patriot Act, AKA ankle lock, at the 3 minute mark. *1/2

Jack Swagger & Zeb Coulter - After the match, Swagger introduced the crowd to Zeb Coulter and proclaimed him to be a native & real American. Coulter took the mic and began to go on what sounded like something of a right wing lecture in regards to how far American has fallen and in regards to the illegal immigration, or possibly just immigration entirely, issues. I thought Zeb did a good job here as he managed to captivate the audience with what he was saying. He got the What? treatment in the beginning, but it soon died down once the fans realized that it wasn't going to be a standard promo in which the heel manager puts over his wrestler. Parts of Zeb's speech made me a little uncomfortable, but that's part of why I enjoyed it as well. There wasn't anything extreme or over the top said in the promo, but they went just far enough so that people were able to get a truly clear message as to where they were going. This has the potential to draw big heat for Swagger. If they'd have done this promo in some place like Florida, Texas or anywhere in the American southwest, it would've drawn crazy heat due to the large Latino population. Thumbs Up

5. The Miz vs. Cody Rhodes - Again, this match was only about 3 minutes but it was an entertaining 3 minutes. They packed a good deal of action into the time they were given and they worked well together. Antonio Cesaro was on commentary and while he stumbled over his words out there at one point, he's clearly becoming more and more comfortable speaking. Cody & Miz go at it pretty aggressively at one point and Rhodes is pulled out of the ring. Miz stares at Cesaro for a bit before turning his attention back to Cody Rhodes. Cesaro tries to jump Miz but eats a boot for his trouble. Just after Miz tosses Cody back into the ring, Cesaro comes up from behind and pushes Miz into the ring post, earning the DQ. The post match attack was aggressively creative as Cesaro puts Miz into the position for a Slingshot, I thought he was going to Slingshot Miz into the ring post, but he repeatedly flings him back & forth against the security railing. It looks impressive and makes Cesaro look like a beast. I've seen wrestlers do it before, but only so far as to swing their opponent into the railing one time, not repeatedly. **

6. Brodus Clay & Tensai vs. Epico & Primo - Pretty much what I expected. The babyfaces dominated and picked up the win in about 90 seconds. A quick, painless means of ultimately introducing fans to the new tag team of Clay & Tensai. NA

The Shield - This was the first in-ring promo from The Shield and I thought it came off really well. Roman Reigns has gotten better on the mic while Ambrose & Rollins shined, Ambrose especially. While the promo pandered to Cena fans at times, it did it's job of generating heat for the match. They repeatedly called out their opponents for EC this Sunday and, eventually, the lights go out. I thought, for a second, that The Undertaker was going to pop up and that he'd slaughter them all and obliterate their heat. But, it was only Cena, Ryback & Sheamus. The brawl was a repeat of last week and, again, it had a good physical element to it. This match holds a lot of promise for this Sunday. Thumbs Up

7. Alberto Del Rio vs. Damien Sandow - I don't know what happened here after Sandow's rant, which I enjoyed. Sandow is great on the mic. My satellite went on the fritz for a few minutes. NA

8. Wade Barrett vs. Kofi Kingston - The satellite came in just as another Fandango vignette was ending. During this match, it was said that Bo Dallas had attacked Barrett prior to the match. The match was short but highly entertaining in my opinion. I've seen Barrett & Kofi work great 20 minute matches against each other and I wish that they'd have gotten that kind of time here. They packed nonstop action into the match, however, with the time they were given. Late in the match, Kofi goes for Trouble in Paradise only for Barrett to roll to the outside. As Kofi dives after him beneath the bottom rope, Barrett holds up the ring apron and blinds Kofi momentarily. As Kofi is trying to get free, Barrett delivers the Bull Hammer and gets the clean win. I'm glad they had Barrett go over here. I thought they'd go the direction of Kofi getting a win over Barrett since Barrett wasn't 100% after being attacked and/or was thrown off his game by Bo Dallas. **1/4

9. Kane vs. Dolph Ziggler - Entertaining effort from Kane & Ziggler. This was another match that featured a lot of back & forth action from the two and both men looked good. Ziggler excels at helping to make other wrestlers look good. I'm glad they gave these two some time rather than plowing through this in about 3 minutes. There've been several short, yet entertaining matches on the show, but this is a match for the final spot in the EC match so it needed some time. Ziggler scored several believable near falls on Kane throughout the match and I honestly didn't have a solid idea who was going to come out on top. At one point, AJ hops up on the apron and distracts Kane for a second just before Kane jumps off the top. He misses the clothesline as Ziggler quickly darts out of the way. As he hits the ropes, he bounces AJ off the apron, only for Big E. Langston to catch her. Ziggler is distracted for a second as he checks on AJ only to run right into a big chokeslam from Kane. Kane picks up the win at the 10.5 minute mark and has a spot in the EC match. ***

The Rock - I thought the final segment of the show was solid, though not what I was ultimately hoping for. I was hoping for another full blown verbal confrontation between Punk & The Rock. The Rock's story about buying a car from a crackhead while he was living in Nashville at age 15 did make me chuckle. Punk came out after Rock finished his story. Rock insulted Punk & Heyman for a bit before Punk hits the ring. For a while, Punk has the advantage over Rock before he eats a spinebuster. The Rock then goes for the People's Elbow only to be tripped by Heyman. Punk recovers and puts Rock in the GTS. Punk then picks up the WWE Championship and walks out of the ring with it. On the stage, Punk gets a mic and tells The Rock that story time is over and that he wants Rock to understand that every time Rock wants to bring it, he's going to take it. Punk then holds up the WWE Championship with The Rock in the ring selling the effects of the GTS to close the show. Thumbs In The Middle

Final Thoughts - Last night's Raw was a good, solid show. To me, it wasn't as good as last week's show but last night's show ultimately did it's job. There was great hype for the EC ppv, especially the WWE Championship, EC match & the six man tag match. Storylines were progressed forward and there was also several good matches on the card. Heyman & Punk continue to shine in their roles. I ultimately enjoyed both main promo segments, though the second one left me wanting a bit. The Shield promo was well done and all three of them did a good job. Wrestling action was overall really solid in my eyes. Jericho vs. Bryan was a great outing, it wouldn't bother me at all to see these two feud in the future. Kane vs. Ziggler was also an entertaining match with back & forth action. it wasn't as smooth as Jericho vs. Bryan but I don't think anyone could have expected it to be. Swagger vs. Ryder was okay and I dig the direction they're going. Zeb Coulter generated some controversy in his promo and I thought it was well done without going anywhere close to stepping over the line. Kofi vs. Barrett was short but packed a lot of action. All in all, just a good episode of Raw.

Grade: B

WWE needs to get their head out of their asses. The Divas champ hasn't been shown in two weeks, they wouldn't dream of doing this to any other title holder. Kaitlyn, Tamina, and Vickie had a nice segment and fight on an app exclusive, but would it have killed them to show the 1+1/2 minute segment on the actual show? Kaitlyn had a lot of momentum coming off of her title win and they're on the track of completely burying it. Hopefully something will happen on SD to give a little build-up to Tamina vs Kaitlyn at EC. The champ's match against Natalya on Superstars this week should be good, as well.

I could watch Antonio Cesaro beating the hell out of Miz for a long, long time.

Also I think this RAW has been one of the best of the entire year, most of it has been amazing. Even Tensai + Brodus was pretty cool in it's own right.
