[Official] Harthan is more badass than you via ponies, magic, and stuff.

....

We'll always have Cesaro.

I don't want to ruin the film for you but why would Alfred see Bruce with Selina Kyle? He had no idea she existed. If anything he'd see him with Maranda Tate since "she's quite lovely" and he had no idea who she really was.

I think if you want to read the final shot of Alfred and Wayne as literal, it ruins the entire film. I can't see it as anything other than Alfred just having a pleasant fantasy in his old age.

The film already did a good job about ruining the entire film.

And you're forgetting about the side plot about Brucey being unable to let it go, and by setting the BAT to autopilot (as Fox found out he did) and seeing Alfred one last time he finally did. Checkhov's wineglass indeed.

So, I saw TDKR today. Let's talk about it.

I think it's a really good film for a long time. Until about the range of Miranda revealing herself as Raas al Ghul's (never know how to spell it) kid. Not that that, in and of itself, is a terrible thing. Conceptually, it's not a bad twist and helps string the plot together. But then they try to make something remotely sympathetic about Bane and I don't know how I feel about that. It's not that I'm opposed to sympathetic villains - I support them a billion times over, really - but this felt really forced. You've got this utter fucking sadist who's basically the League of Shadows incarnate and now what, you want me to feel kind of sorry for him because he once tried to protect an innocent child? It felt forced.

Then it kind of goes downhill. The closing action car/Batplane chase scene is cool and all, but then the whole nuclear detonation thing...eh. I mean, you've got the Catwoman/Batman kiss which is super weird. Why does that even have to be a thing here? Really, I felt like Catwoman as a whole was kind of mishandled. Hathaway did a pretty good job of her, really, but she was never very important. I get that Nolan tried to use her as part of this weird sideplot of the rich vs the poor or whatever, but that entire angle was super weak. So all Catwoman really became was a plot device and weird, forced love interest. I don't know. I thought that final scene on the bridge was just really fucking weird, but Batman killing himself for the city was interesting. The idea that he died when he didn't actually have to is also interesting. The only way I can see it is that the memory of Rachel was the only thing that even kept him alive; while he was able to become Batman once he let go of her, there was also no real reason for him to live anymore, and he took the first out he reasonably could after beating Bane.

Ultimately I think the film is a great action film and a reasonably good ending to the series, but it lacks the intellectual stimulation brought on by Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, which had all these brilliant ideas about fear, chaos, justice, truth, mob mentality, basically all this great shit and it just wasn't there in TDKR.

Watch it again. The first time through for me was wonderful, the second time through for me was absolutely spectacular. I felt it was kinda confusing, and overall the plot didn't really go as well as they probably had originally planned it to for the simple fact that some of it did feel forced. However, upon my second viewing I didn't feel it was very forced at all. Especially the sadistic/sympathetic dynamics of Bane.

I actually disagree on the portion about Catwoman. I agree the last scene with Alfred was meant to be taking figuratively, yet he kissed Catwoman before he ultimately willingly committed suicide for Gotham, and ultimately chose his love over Rachel in some weird sadistic way over his new found interest in Catwoman. Bruce was interested in Catwoman, but he didn't love her. He loved Rachel, and in the end he chose that love for Rachel over being with Catwoman. If he loved Catwoman he wouldn't have opted to give his life for Gotham. He would have used the autopilot.

As for the idea of fear, chaos, justice, truth, mob mentality, etc. I'm not sure I agree. The idea that you have to go through the pit of hell to actually understand and defeat someone who has been through the pit of hell was an interesting dynamic to say the least. The idea about the rope, or the idea of safety, holding you back from making that leap to get you out of hell was also done stupendously. You have the dynamic of Bane controlling the city through fear and fear alone via the bomb even though no one was really in any danger since Miranda had the trigger anyways.

Ultimately I feel like the trilogy expressed how easily it would have been for Bruce to have been a villain instead, better than we've ever seen done before. Even in this last movie you saw in the beginning a very dark recluse side of Bruce Wayne that you would never really expect, and in the end I feel you actually saw the depression felt by Bruce gripping him again over the loss of Rachel, Alfred, and his parents.

I agree with a lot of what Harthan said... except the part where he thinks Bruce Wayne is dead and Alfred is delusional. I agree with Merk in that regard.

I accidentally came across two potential season 3 spoilers on Facebook today.

1) Shining Armor and Princess Cadence had a baby
2) RD gets a boyfriend

Usually, I like to skip to the last page of a thread and pretend to fit in.

After trying that with this thread, I have two words for you people...

Fuck you.

After watching the MLP yi-gi-oh parody we should all get together and create a MLP turn based card game. It can be magic the gathering based. Who's with me!?

My Little Pony: the Gathering?

I'll pass thanks, unless you actually make the game and it's awesome (in which case I was on board day one) I doubt it will work, the mechanics that Wizards of the Coast uses to keep that game balanced are in short extraordinary.

Every ability and every statistic has a score and then they use a cost graph to determine how much mana it should cost - if it's not within 10% of the curve its cost needs to change or it just gets scrapped. They do that for EVERY CARD. They've only deviated from it twice - the opening set (which was before the curve hence why there are some ridiculously powerful cards there) and Unglued, where they did it on purpose to make some silly goddamn cards.

I'm still yet to see DKR, the more I hear about the film the more I think I'll fly into a nerdrage over it. It just sounds like they took the modern Batman and perfectly transferred him to film with the first two movies and now they've gone "Batman? who da fuq?" He never needed a reason beyond his parents, he never has - as for the Batman is this close to being a villain idea they've explored it in the comics plenty. I highly recommend Arkham Asylum: A serious house on serious Earth. It really gets into Batman's mindset and digs in deep - it's a key reason in why I don't mind that Grant Morrison fucked up Final Crisis so badly, because on his best day he's simply amazing.

I shall check out those MLP parodies tomorrow, they've piqued my interest at least.

Dear Harthan,

Please sign up for Fantasy Football. The doomsday clock is reaching midnight.

What's canon in the MLP verse, the toys or the cartoon? I'm assuming it would be the toys since the latter is a spin off.

I know more Cadence is only happening because she sold so well, but I like Cadence a lot. I hope she sings more. "This Day Aria" was excellent.

Season 3 isn't close enough.
