[Official] Chris Benoit Memorial Thread

I cant believe im reading this....the man killed his own son and wife...
nothing could ever excuse that...nothing....
yes he may have been a great wrestler but i will always have great difficulty watching a benoit match again now, and some of my favourite matches involved him, but wot he did is just wrong and there are no justifications for his actions, so i cant sit down and enjoy a match which involves someone who murdered his own flesh and blood and family....

I myself respected Chris as a complete wrestler. There are not that many these days. His skills in the ring were unquestioned. And I considered myself a fan. I was shocked to see "In Memory of Chris Benoit" pop up when I tuned into Raw this pass Monday and cried when at the end of the show they showed him and Eddie celebrating his championship win at Wrestlemania even though I had an idea that he was responsible for the deaths when I heard Vince say they found his wife, and child dead also. This most always means foul play. Upon everything being confirmed today I can no longer seperate the wrestler from the person. This man killed his wife and child...his child. WWE cannot continue to praise this man. No one is disputing his wrestling abilities but be for real can you think of Chris now without the thinking about what he did to his family? He not only killed himself, his wife, and his kid (who by the way looked just like him), he killed his wrestling legacy.

What can be said about Benoit that hasn't all ready been said. He was a true superstar in every sense of the word. My heart fights back confusion and pain but remebers how great he was. My prayers go out to the family and to everyone that was close to them. I don't know why this tradgedy happened and I wish there was a way of stopping it but again Benoit you will always be with me.

I hate to flame, and this isn't a flame.

But I would like to point out that disgusting things like this are appearing on the internet:

benoit1ug4.jpg

It's going to be like that for years to come, there is no stopping it. If Benoit did this, then he deserves it all.

HeartBreakKid ur the idiot. he pavd the way for all the furture wee stars. i refuse to believe that he could do something like that. if ur so smart why didnt he kill his other to kids. if he was so mess up like u said answer that. u should not speak on things htat u dont know. Beniot should be respected.

This reply is not only to this post, but all similar ones arguing for Benoit's legacy. First of all folks, you have to realize in cases so sensitive, law enforcement is always careful when divulging details and formulating theories. If you hear something mentioned on CNN or the evening news, there's an extremely strong chance it is solid.

Second of all, hbk1224, I can only say you are completely ignorant and uninformed. Benoit did not kill his other two children because they were not living with him. While I can't say I know what happened that night, I think we can safely say the fact the his two other children were hundreds of miles away living with his ex wife and therefore out of harm's way during Benoit's rampage this weekend. Also, new reports have been mentioning a safety deposit box that Nancy kept full of photos and other evidence documenting his abuse against the family. She left it to be opened under circumstances such as these. Also, she filed a restraining order in 2003 alleging Benoit abused her and his son.

So, let's go out on a limb and say that in a few weeks, they do find out Chris was not responsible (meaning you'd have to neglect the fact his wife died on Saturday, and he didn't report it to police, and also that someone smothered his son while he was home, and he didn't report it to police)... he still was a documented domestic abuser, which is completely unethical.

If things happened differently, to almost any degree, I could see an argument for memorializing Benoit. However, he is responsible for the death of his wife and child. I know morals can be complicated and everyone has their own beliefs. However, I think every sane individual on this planet will agree that murdering your family, especially your child is unforgivable. I find it difficult to even think of animals who do that, never mind human beings.

Wake up, folks... Benoit was an excellent wrestler in his lifetime, but life goes beyond what you do for a living. His final, ultimate act which will ultimately define him, was despicable. Celebrating his name and what it stood for is useless, because ultimately, he made the choice to do these actions. He spent an entire weekend killing his family. This was no heat of the moment action... he thought about it and did it over several days. If he cared about his legacy and what he stood for, he wouldn't have done something so unspeakable. Truth be told, Chris Benoit was my favorite wrestler is his lifetime. I went into details in a previous post. However, from this day forth, to the collective public consciousness, the name Chris Benoit will evoke memories of a man who with cold calculation, killed his family.

My sincerest thoughts and condolences do go out to all the families involved. We should certainly send our prayers, love, and whatever you can to Nancy's family and Benoit's parents and extended family, especially his surviving children. It's sad that they'll have to live with this terrible tragedy tarnishing their name, and I think we should all make a sincere effort to let them know that we'll never hold this against them. Children should never have to pay for their father's mistakes. If anyone knows a way we could collectively reach out to them with our sympathies, condolences, or anything they need, please post it. Let's try to turn something negative into a positive !

chris was awesome and i still don't completly believe he did all this. but a 7 year old kid is dead and that's rough if the mother or father killed him.

I'm sick of people feeling bad for wrestlers.

They put themselves through the pain to entertain us. TRUE. But these guys don't do it just because. They do it because it feels good to entertain people, and they also have the chance to make millions of dollars.

They put the roids in their bodies to look good, increasing their chance at the big time. They put themselves in danger to make the cash, and it works out for some, and doesn't for others.

Steroids are dangerous. Prescription pain pills can be dangerous. Soma and muscle relaxers are f-ing dangerous.

They often discuss the rigors of the road lead to the lifestyle, and while it isn't easy, not everyone of them takes steroids, or takes pain pills mixed with alcohol. Guess what, that is what they signed up to do.

If Benoit's weekend adventure wasn't roid/drug related, I'm dying to know what that guys deal was.

It's not that I don't feel bad for Nancy, but she stayed with a guy she knew was abusive, apparently. Poor decision making, which let her son stay in danger too. Thats the real shame to all of this.

chris benoit was a great wrestler. I dont believe in my heart that he did this crime knowingly. I feel after al lthe nice comments everyone has made about him. He didnt just snap, Chris had something mentally wrong wit him. And unfortunetly it was firs tdetected about his rage back in 2003. Only if we knew then. He could have been helped adn 3 innocent lives could be saved. I will miss u chris. U were my hero.

I am just shell shocked. He was such an amazing wrestler. I don't remember feeling this bad since Owen Hart and Brian Pillman...especially Pillman, one of my childhood idols. I understand what Benoit did, if true, is horrific and there is no excuse, but I hate how WWE is handling it. They are acting like the man never existed. How do you take away a 22 year career of absolute excellence because of one night of horrific decisions. This guy should be a hall of famer...but never will be.

Damn I feel terrible for Chavo and most importantly Dean. Chavo was tearing up last night and I knew something was up when he said the last words he heard from Benoit was "I love you Chavo..." I feel extremely bad also because Chavo said Benoit fed him, made him feel at home and trusted him. Chavo also said that he would trust Benoit with his life and his KIDS' life. Im willing to bet right now he takes all that back because Benoit killed his own kid. Imagine if somehow Chavo's wife was i dont know maybe working and Chavo was at the Vengeance ppv and he heard Benoit decided to stay home. Turns out he needed a babysitter. COULD YOU IMAGINE WHAT BENOIT COULD'VE DONE TO CHAVO'S KIDS?? sickening man Chavo please take all that back. That brings me to Mr.Dean Simon aka Dean Malenko. Most his life he was best friends with Eddie and Benoit. They were the happiest of best friends. Now Eddie, may he rest in peace, passed away making it only 2 best friends. Benoit cried like a 3 month old baby at the induction ceremony and at the tribute to Eddie RAW. Over close two years later he kills his family. Last Monday Malenko fucking said some great things about this man and he makes fools out of everyone. Damn how low can a man get. Imagine this now: Malenko is such great friends with Benoit that say he heard about his family being "ill" he went to visit Benoit and when he saw him he was in the middle of suffocating his OWN kid. Shit Benoit would've tried to kill his so called "best friend" Low mega LOW. He might as well should have shit on himself and everyone he cares about cause thats what he pretty much did. If Eddie was alive he would've been crushed. RIP Eddie Nancy and Daniel

I cannot believe everyone has a eulogy and giving deepest condolescences who I truly give to Nancy and Daniel who were victims of his violent abuse physical and verbal I spit at CHris benoits face he was a misguided soul for doing that and he will never be a hall of famer for what he did as it was no excuse! Vince McMoron should be arraigned and arrested for all counts of steroid distribution as he is guilty as charged
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19424899/?GT1=10056#storyContinued
he should be sentenced to death row or placed in a gas chamber for all counts of steroid distribution
but chris benoit you do not deserve to be mourned for your outbursts and attacking your precious beloved wife Nancy in the past all this because of a divorce filed by her and solving your solution by killing innocent victims for your selfish gains and reasons so In my eyes I truly see a misguided soul

I can't believe that there are actually people posting here that have the slightest bit of sympathy For Benoit. I hope he burns in hell for what he did to his family, not be celebrated for what a great wrestler he was. He's an F'n coward who smothered his wife and seven year old son to death, then sat around the house for a day or two with their bodies.

I am sickened by his actions, by those who choose to celebrate his wrestling accumen, and by the WWE for putting on a memorial show on Monday. They had to have known based on the text messages Benoit sent that this was gonna play out something like this.

Burn in hell Benoit, RIP Nancy and Daniel

Just thought I would add something here.

I bought the hardknocks dvd last night for my wife who was a huge Benoit fan. I bought it around 9:30pm. I woke this morning to find that all Benoit Mech hjad been removed from the site. So to check on my order I called cust service and was told that yes my order had placed and would be shipped but was told and I quote.

"Chris Benoit Merchandise will never again be sold by wwe:shop and that if I was smart I'd ebay the dvd as soon as I got it......."

Didn't really know what to think about that statement.

Anyway just thought I would add my two cents to this story.

Screw This a-hole!! He murders his wife and seven year old son.... deserves nothing!!!! Who freakin kills their family and then in a cowardly manner instead of facing charges commits suicide??? F HIM

I totally agree, the tribute was a mistake but was in line with wwe company policy, which they apologised for tonight on ecw. Benoit can be remembered as a great wrestler, but any possible hall of fame inductions or other tributes should never be given to him.

I still can't believe this happened! As soon as I found out that Beniot died I felt like it was Eddie all over again. That one of the best wrestlers ever had been taken too soon. Then news of his atrocity came to light, and now I can't help but see O.J. Simpson when I think of Beniot.

I don't know if I can ever bring myself to watch one of his matches again! And I love each and everyone I ever saw!! But I just don't know if I can bring myself to do it.

RIP Nancy and Daniel

Alright, I am going to play something of Devil's Advocate here. A lot of this thread so far has been character assassination as a result of the release that it is strongly believed that Benoit killed his own family and himself.

Acting under that assumption, and to those people discrediting him, I have this to say:

DON'T.

Yesterday, this board was totally lit up with people professing their love for Benoit and what he brought to the business. His work, his talent, everything. And now, 24 hours later.. that is all shot to hell. Why? Because he murdered his family? As horrible as that it is, it really doesn't have anything to do with Benoit as a wrestler.

Benoit deserves the Hall of Fame.

He really does.

If you want to hate him as a human being, fine. If you want to hate him as a cold blooded murderer, fine.

But don't take away what he spent two decades accomplishing in the ring.

All of the favorite matches that have been mentioned have not been retroactively edited. They have not changed. They are the same as they were last night.

Hate the man, not the wrestler... please.

Nobody knows what Chris Benoit was thinking or experiencing. Noone ever really knows the hows or whys of other peoples lives. What we do know is that Chris Benoit was a fantastic wrestler and no matter what else may be true, he will always be that. I will prayer for all 3 of them. Rest in Peace Benoit Family.

no one knows what was going on, no one knows hell some one could have killed him , he was some one people looked up to and we know the news they will do any thing for a story, we were not there so no one will ever know the truth rip

I do not know what could have caused Benoit to do what he apparently did. He has always been and alway will be one of my favorite wrestlers. Simply because he was a wrestler. A real one that is. He was never a character like many of the others who call themselves wrestlers. Benoit was a true talent and an excellent athlete and performer. There have always been precious few wrestlers like Benoit. Now two of the biggest and best are dead. Never to perform again. We may never know what really happened in his house. But I hope his memory comtinues to live on.

How can you all talk about his “legacy”? He TIED UP and KILLED and his wife, and strangled his 7 YEAR OLD SON!!!!! He deserves to burn in hell no matter what his reasons were, or what drugs he was on!! Shame on you all for talking so great about this killer. What next, sympathy for OSAMA BIN LADEN? A killer is a killer is a killer. Lets all take a moment and honor OJ’s career too…SHAME SHAME SHAME!!!

I had a weird moment last night. I was in the middle of watching one of my favorite movies, "Raging Bull," and got to a scene where Jake LaMotta starts to beat his wife and I changed the channel.

I consider "Bull" to be one of the finest pieces of cinema, but yet, after hearing about Chris Benoit, I just couldn't stand to watch even a fictionalized account of spousal abuse.

Normally, I'm fairly desensitized to this sort of thing, but I guess that's what happens when one of your heroes appears to have an end like Benoit did.

I still don't even know what to do quite yet. I've been talking with some of my friends and they seem fairly casual about the whole thing-- which I suppose is because those who have stopped watching are really less affected by the whole thing.

And, like most of you, I'm sure you really can't seem to beat all of the evidence-- despite how many times you may come to check to see if the latest news may indicate something different.

It's a complete shame and I still haven't figured out how to take it.

I haven't seen this posted yet and I just had to share this with you all.

http://www.pwtorch.com/artman/publis...le_20662.shtml

Steve Austin's ex-wife, Debra Marhsall, commented on the Benoit Family Tragedy in a story published by My Fox TV in Colorado:

Regarding domestic abuse and drugs in pro wrestling, she said: "The domestic and drug abuse is out of hand in the WWE and something needs to be done about it."

Regarding the pattern of deaths in pro wrestling, she said: "In the last ten years, 60 wrestlers under age 45 have died... all in the prime of their lives. Big strong men, who somehow die with little or no investigation of the organization that encourages performers to use muscle-enhancing drugs."

The article concludes:

Ms. Williams claims she and Nancy Benoit's stories are very similar.
Both sought help from law enforcement because of domestic abuse. In 2003, Benoit sought a divorce from Chris Benoit saying he physically abused her, she also asked the courts for a restraining order. Williams did the same thing on the third occasion when she says she was attacked by "Stone Cold."

Williams says, like Benoit, Austin all but forced her to write a letter to authorities saying her complaint was a mistake. But in Williams's case, the courts put Austin on probation for a year. In return, Ms. Williams was placed under a gag order, forcing her to remain silent about the "dark side" of professional wrestling, filled with drugs, booze, and domestic abuse.

"If only I had spoken up sooner, maybe Nancy and her little boy would be alive today... that's why I'm going public now, something has to change!"

In the TV report, she said:

-"Everyone thought we had this wonderful life, had this big house, worked together."

-"Steroids! He (Steve Austin) was doing steroids. I saw him do it, so I know he did it."

-"I have lived it. I have lived domestic abuse. I don't even want to think about what Nancy went through."

-"Why kill your wife, who's innocent, and why kill your seven year old, a little child. That's why I have to speak up. I've been silent for too many years." She said a gag order prevented her from talking about it her case with Austiin for a year.

-"I know what it feels like to have someone really, really big on top of you hitting you."

-"I had him arrested for hitting me."

-"I have a huge voice being that I was a wrestler, in it, abused, and married to the top guy. I'm glad I'm alive."
