NFL AND NCAAF bar room thread

Whenever I, a Chicago Bears fan starts to feel sad about our Quarterback situation for the past 15+ years it always cheers me up to remember that the New York Jets will somehow find a way to rise above the odds and make their Quarterback situation worse.

Not at all true. Guys with the right mental make-up learn from those mistakes. Peyton Manning broke the rookie record for INTs his first year. Luck was up there too.

I don't think he is gonna TAKE you anywere, but is Ryan Fitzpatrick and whomever they sign off the street going to?

At the very least with his arm talent and two awesome possession receivers, I think it could have a shot, to be at or near RF's production, with a much higher ceiling. Rookies Joe Flacco and Big Ben depended on great defense and great possession WRs to take them far.
Flacco and Roethlisberger were first round picks. Petty is a 4th round pick. There's a MASSIVE DIFFERENCE. Ryan Fitzpatrick could very well take us to the playoffs. As could Geno Smith when he gets healthy.

Oh, and you forgot to mention another QB who took his team far into the playoffs his rookie year (and sophmore year)..... Look how he panned out.

Here's a list of Rookie QB's to take their start in the the playoffs:
Andrew Luck #1 overall
Bernie Kosar #1 overall
RGIII #2 overall
Matt Ryan #3 overall
Jim Everett #3 overall
Mark Sanchez #5 overall
Big Ben #11 overall
Joe Flacco #18 overall
Todd Marinovich #24 overall
Dan Marino #27 overall
Andy Dalton #35 overall
Shaun King #50 overall
Russel Wilson #75 overall
TJ Yates #152 overall (started the year as a 3rd QB and started due to injuries to Matt Shaub and Matt Leinart)

Here's an article showing how shit rookie QB's are in the playoffs. It's a couple years old (written when Luck/RG3/Wilson made it to the playoffs their rookie year) but the point is still valid.

The vast majority of rookie QBs play like crap in the playoffs. Don't think for a second I would expect a rookie 4th round pick to be able to take the team to the playoffs. Give me a solid veteran game manager over a late round rookie.

Finally I watched Petty play Thursday. He was shit. Constantly missing his target, failed a handoff (causing a turnover), and looked a bit like a deer in headlights on the field at times.

Jay Cutler is signed to a ridiculous contract and you have him for many a year, all the while wanting to get rid of him because he has not been able to lead the Bears to the promised land. You definitely have it worse at the QB position.

The Jets have no one locked up for 2016 meaning they could get someone if they need to. Better to have no one, than to have someone you wish you didn't have.

Let's make the Geno Smith Story even more entertaining.

The Bills claimed IK Enemkpali off waivers. Rex Ryan is like the ultimate troll coach.

I especially enjoyed Enemkpali's quote: "It wasn't my intention to hurt anyone."

No, just to rip Geno's head off.

If I could add my favorite "Dumb Athlete Quote" of the week, which came from Larry Donnell, TE of the Giants:

"That's the only way to go in life......stay positive. It's simple mathematics."

Even better was that he apologized to the locker room, the organization, and the fans. That's wonderful. How about you apologize to THE GUY WHO NOW HAS A STEEL PLATE IN HIS JAW BECAUSE OF YOU! I mean really. I'm surprised he hasn't been charged yet. I would have thought once he got claimed by Buffalo the Jets would ensure that charges were pressed against him, being that assault is a crime.

This is the final year of Jay Cutler getting any guaranteed money so if Chicago wanted to we could just drop him off at the curb next season and never look back. I'd rather overpay a mediocre quarterback than have the dick pic Brett Favre, butt fumbling Mark Sanchez, the Tim Tebow saga, "I don't wanna start" Mike Vike, and then finally Glass Joe. The Jet's quarterback situation has laughably been the worst and no one else can quite match up to level of fuckery when it comes to Quarterbacks.

Because that's worked out so well for the Jets the past 15 or so years, right? Because from what I've seen, the Jets give drafted QB's 2-3 years where they stink it up, and then get run out of town to go play backup for the Eagles. But hey, at least you're happy about that kind of business model.

I don't see why it is so hard to find a good quarterback

hehe

Fuck. You.

You and the fucking Packers just fall ass backwards into back to back franchise QB's. While I had to put up with the likes of Christian Ponder, Donovan McNabb's broken version, Brooks Bollinger, Spurgeon fucking Wynn, Matt Cassel, Josh Freeman, The Immortal Coin Flip warrior Tarvaris Jackson, Gus Frerotte, and Kelly Holcomb

That was depressing to list. Thank god I'm drinking tonight and remember that at least.....oh god my second team is Cleveland.

Where's my whiskey bottle?

At least all of those quarterbacks know how to slide without running face first into a butt, amirite?

That 2-14 season was rough damn it.

I'm glad Teddy looks like he is going to legit. I was a big fan fan of his at Louisville and feel like he was the best QB in his class.

Also, I too hate the Packers. Chicago is my NFC team.

Knowing Julio, he's going to tear something by week 4 and then hobble around the field for the rest of the year.

Why you wishing ill will on my WR, I didn't crack any jokes about Alshon's calf so what's with the unnecessary shot? Also, he literally had one year where a freak accident of a screw breaking in his foot cost him 11 games, I hope that TD on the opening drive is a sign of things to come as the only thing Julio can improve on is getting into the endzone.

I didn't wish any ill will on Julio Jones at all there, bud. But I'm merely just stating reality. The dude plays a few amazing games, gets an injury, and then hobbles around until he gets another amazing game and then gets hobbled once again. It's a vicious cycle for the guy.

Marinovich never made the playoffs. He took over for the starter after two games, had a couple decent games, then after a game in which he threw three picks in his firts ten passes he was benched and never played in the NFL again.

And King only started in the playoffs because of an injury to Dilfer 1/2 way through the season. Same with Kosar, the starter got injured around midseason and Kosar managed to keep the team at .500

Also quoting Bleacher Report isn't exactly the best way to win an argument.

How many times has any of those quarterbacks ever slid into a linemen's butt?

One time our quarterback avoided a bunch of butts and did this.

The Vikings really seem to have their shit together, Ty. This won't be their year (Wild Card and one playoff win at the most, 8-8 at the worst), but man.... once they move into that gorgeous new stadium and these young guys continue to grow, I really see some big things happening for them. Scary, scary looking team.
