Quick question about the end of the Lions/Falcons match.

Was the first attempted Lions FG chalked off due to an offensive or defensive penalty?

If the former, surely there should have been some way for the Falcons to decline the penalty and therefore not give the Lions another shot at the FG?

Uneasy. A beatdown on St. Louis will lift some spirits though.

Royals are good to go now that you got rid of that dig on my O's (which I, if not the actual team, probably deserved). They'll take the next two games and KC will explode in an orgy of barbecue-fueled violence.

On topic, once again I find myself unable to watch this Ravens game, but if the Bungles are the only AFC North team we lose to all year then that tie will cost them the division.

It was an offensive delay of game penalty, which is automatically enforced. A brilliant fuck-up by Detroit.

I did love earlier in the year when people were saying Brady was done. Everything has to be the end of a career now instead of just having a few bad games.

It was a delay of game penalty, they let the play clock run out before the snap. If the defense declined the penalty it would just negate the 5 yard penalty so there wouldn't be a point.

Pre-snap penalties can't be declined. It's automatic. If it had been a defensive pre-snap penalty (such as encroachment), and the clock was running there would have been a ten-second clock runoff.

But the fact that they got to have another go at a play they fucked up in two ways is terrible.

They didn't though. The field goal he made was five yards longer than the one he would have missed.

It might have been five yards further away, but the essence remains. The Lions got a second chance to win the game because they gave away a penalty.

That is bullshit.

If the first kick would have went in, it wouldn't have counted. It has to go both ways.

It wouldn't have counted... and they still would have gotten another chance to win the game. You cannot even call it good management of the clock. They got away with and worse still benefited from being slow, shit and penalised. That is terrible.

Basically, to my uneducated mind, the five yard penalty is nowhere near enough.

Penalise them a down and teams will soon hurry the fuck up.

Good god I'm fucking done with this team right now. Can't stop a 4 year old from scoring in the 4th quarter.

Regarding the Lions/Falcons endgame, I can't find if a game has ended similarly before. It is certainly something that the league competition committee should look at.

Offensive PI against Steve Smith was so much bullshit there. Didn't know Anderson Varejao played DB for Cincy. I'll take extra enjoyment watching them get bounced in the first round of the playoffs again, should they make it.

With the DET-ATL game, what I think should happen is the other team should get to choose whether they want to decline or accept it, like most other penalties. In that situation the Falcons would have declined and the game would have been over.

Also, Colts offensive line is so shitty it makes the Steelers shitty defensive line look great.

It wouldn't have been over. Just like a false start wouldn't have led to the game being over. It'sa pre-snap penalty and the game clock was stopped.

The nice part about having Antonio Brown in fantasy is that when the Steelers do this at least I get something out of it. Roethlisberger has been astounding.

Actually iirc, a false start usually leads to a 10-second runoff of the game clock if the team has no TOs and it's under 2-minutes left in the game. I remember this fucked Pittsburgh when they played the Falcons a couple of years back. But it doesn't matter, if our sorry ass defense wants to allow a TD from 3rd and 25 and allow Detroit to march down the field from the 6 with no TOs left. Also, for us to commit every penalty in the book on offense to make sure they have time left, then Detroit should be allowed to win the game if the Falcons deem it so.
