My Graphic novel reviews

Thor (Marvel)

How Everything Flows Together: perfectly except for the last few short stories that didn't have anything to do with the main story

The Storyline: The main storyline is that Odinson is unable to lift the hammer after Nick Fury whispers something in his ear. However a strange woman does pick it up and is now the new Thor. Odin wants the hammer back and goes a bit nuts trying to do so including sending The destoyer to Midgard to get it. Odinson spends his time trying to figure out who the new Thor is.

Artistry: Very good for the main story. The short stories ranged from meh to just silly.

How much I Liked It: One of the newer Graphic Novels I've read (2014) but it was very good. The comic industry is very good at keeping up with the times.

Final Thoughts: Well worth the read, especially if you don't know who the new Thor is and want to find out..

How Everything Flows Together: It's all a single storyline so it flows well

The Storyline: LA is now run by chefs. The culinary industry is the only industry left and 2 chefs control everything. In steps Jiro, a man hell bent on taking them down so great food can be accessible to everyone.

Artistry: Very good & it suit the story perfectly.

How much I Liked It: Being a chef & a fan of Anthony Bourdain I absolutely loved it.

Final Thoughts: A must read for anyone who loves a more out there grahic novel. You won't be disappointed.

How Everything Flows Together: It's all a single storyline so it flows like fine wine

The Storyline: Batman finds out he is targeted (as Bruce Wayne) for assassination by the mysterious Court of Owls. He spends the G.N. trying to prove the Court doesn't exist only to be pulled deeper into their world.

Artistry: Dark, Gritty & Amazing.

How much I Liked It: I was hooked from page 1. I loved it

Final Thoughts: A must read for anyone who is a Batman fan. This shows a different side of Batman that I've never seen before and it's awesome.

How Everything Flows Together: It was the start of a single story so it stops rather abruptly.

The Storyline: A man is found dead with bites on him from about 5 different vampires controlled by a rogue Master vampire. The police call Supernatural expert Anita Blake to help them find out who is responsible.

Artistry: A bit childish looking for my taste. I didn't really care for it.

How much I Liked It: I enjoyed it. My kind of story

Final Thoughts: I didn't know this was only the beginning so I was a bit bummed not finding out who did it. Good read th o ugh

How Everything Flows Together: It was the continuation of a single story which bothers me even more than just having the beginning like the last one.

The Storyline: A killer Zombie is attacking people & Anita Blake needs to figure out who is doing it and why.

Artistry: A bit childish looking for my taste. I didn't really care for it.

How much I Liked It: I enjoyed it despite not having read the beginning.

Final Thoughts: I hate jumping right into the middle of a story. Read Vol. 1 first and I'm sure you'll enjoy this one more than I did

Chronicles of Wormwood Vol. 1 (Avatar)

How Everything Flows Together: It flowed together pretty well even though it's just the first volume. No hard stop like some other's I've read.

The Storyline: Danny Wormwood is the Antichrist and he doesn't want anything to do with Armageddon. He's friends with Jesus (a mentally handicapped black man who was beat into a coma by the LAPD) and has a tallking rabbit. His father (Satan) keeps trying to change his mind and the Catholic Church wants to kill him

Artistry: exactly what it needed to be. It helped draw me into the story.

How much I Liked It: Despite the fact i actually cringed in some places it was a very good read.

Final Thoughts: Not for everyone. If you're easily offended don't read this.

How Everything Flows Together: It flowed together perfectly.

The Storyline: a virus got let loose and infected the world and turned most people into psychopathic nutjobs who only want to live out their deepest darkest desire. The Pratt family live on a farm where they've managed to avoid the 'Crossed' as they're called (because of the cross shaped rash on their face) but 18 year old Adeline finds out it's not just the Crossed she needs to worry about, human beings can be psychotic as well.

Artistry: dark, gritty & legitimately disgusting. In other words perfect for the story.

How much I Liked It: God help me but I loved this. I'm a horror fan, the bloodier and disgusting the better and this fits that to a T.

Final Thoughts: if you don't have something in you that's at least a tiny bit messed up you won't enjoy this at all and probaby not even then. This is definetly not for everyone.

Artistry: dark, gritty & legitimately disgusting. In other words perfect for the story.

How much I Liked It: I must be a sick, twisted S.O.B. because I loved this one as well.

Final Thoughts: I can't wait to get Vol. 1 & the Crossed +100 series.

How Everything Flows Together: It's the normal for this one, everything flows great.

The Storyline: a young teenager, the only surving member of a group called 'The Killjoys' has to finish what they started by taking down the megacorporation Better Living Industries and save Battery City

Artistry: Quite good actually. Not as crisp as others but fits perfectly.

How much I Liked It: I enjoyed it but being a sequel i wished I had listened to the album it's a sequel to.

Final Thoughts: Now I have to listen to My Chemical Romance in order to get the backstory. The album I mentioned above is their Danger Days album

The Umbrella Academy Vol. 1: Apocalypse Suite (Dark Horse)

How Everything Flows Together: It's the normal for this one, everything flows great.

The Storyline: 43 children are born by miraculous means and 7 are adopted by an eccentric old man who's only response to why he did it was that he wanted to save the world. 10 years later the 7 children fight a rampaging Eiffel tower controlled by zombie robot Gustav Eiffel. After that fight the story pics up a decade later when they all attend their father's funeral. After the funeral something happens and they have to stop the Apocalypse which was started by one of their own.

Artistry: It's not as crisp as I'd like but it's still quite good.

How much I Liked It: It's not your regular superhero story but I like it

Final Thoughts: Luckily for my daughter I want to read the rest of this series so i need to buy them for her sooner than I was going to.

To prove it he takes her into a world inhabited by the insane. This drives her a bit nuts which sends Jack after her. A fight ensues between Declan & Jack.

Artistry: a bit rough but very good.

How Everything Flows Together: It flows perfectly.

The Storyline: The dead are coming back to life as the Black Lantern Corps and it's up to Hal Jordan to get Atroticus, Sinestro, Star Saphire, Agent Orange, Saint Walker & Indigo-1, all beings who wield 1 of the 7 lights of the Emotional Spectrum to fight & defeat these Black Lanterns before they extinguish all life in the universe.

Artistry: a bit rough but somehow perfect

How much I Liked It: I loved it. It's another must read.

Final Thoughts: I got sucked in during the first few pages and that's always a good thing. As a prequel to the Blackest Night I'm glad this arrived first and I can't wait for Blackest Night to arrive because I'm very excitedto read it.

How Everything Flows Together: It flows perfectly.

The Storyline: The dead are coming back to life as the Blac Lantern Corps and it's up to every hero on and off earth to lend a hand in defeating them. A very simple way to explain it but i don't want to spoil anything.

Artistry: absolutely perfect. The team that worked on this did such an amazing job

How much I Liked It: Words can not express how much I love this one.

Final Thoughts: I've been excited to read this ever since i got the prequel and it did not disappoint. The reason i didn't go into much detail like I usually do is because I urge everyone reading this to go buy this ASAP. It ticks every box a 5 star graphic novel should. It makes you feel some major feels (which is a good thing seeing how the main theme is emotion.)

Superman: Ending Battle (DC)

How Everything Flows Together: It flows together pretty good for a story that spans a few different titles

The Storyline: Superman's greatest enemies know his biggest secret...who he really is. Now he must protect everyone Clark Kent has ever known while at the same time finding the man behind his biggest nightmare come to life

Artistry: I loved the fact that it looked like a comic strip out of the Sunday paper but the childishness took away from the seriousness of the story.

How much I Liked It: I enjoyed it from start to finish.

Final Thoughts: It was the plot that got me to grab this while i was at the library yesterday. Not the most riveting story but not the worst I've ever read either.

How Everything Flows Together: It flows decently. It's a bunch of individual stories with an overarching plott.

The Storyline: It's a story of love between Swamp Thing and a woman named Abby. There was also demons and action and all that as well.

Artistry: This particular Volume is a compilation of Swamp Thing from th mid 80s so it's a bit dated but by no means bad. This is another one that's designed like a Sunday Comic strip which is awesome.

How much I Liked It: I liked it more than I thought i would so there's that.

Final Thoughts: Having read about the animated & Live Action Justice League Dark films I wanted to read up on the characters. I like what I've read so far and am excited for more.

My Rating : * * * 3/4 out of 5

How Everything Flows Together: It's all one fairly major storyline so of course it flows good.

The Storyline: Superman has had a psychotic break with reality and sees his wife Lois with some of his strongest enemies (Braniac, Darkseid & Ruin to name a few) and every time they kill her. He goes nuts and beats them almost to death only to find out this isn't what was actually happening.

Artistry: It was good. Modern and crisp but still had a classic feel to it.

How much I Liked It: I loved it.

Final Thoughts: if you've snuck a peek at my rating you may be asking yourself "If he loved it so much why did he only give it 3 stars?"

Well it's because on every page where a speech bubble was at the stop of the page words got cut in half, making it difficult to read and it eventually got so annoying i just skipped the offending speech bubble. The great story and amazing art work saved this one because there is no forgiving a mistake like this when it's DC. You'd think with as long as they've been in business someone in that giant company should have caught it.
