Ronin (DC)​

How Everything Flows Together: it flows very nicely

The Storyline: 800 years ago a samurai watched his master die at the hands of a demon. Now a ronin he goes to avenge his master with a magical sword. As they die the demon traps them both in the sword. In 21st century NYC both the demon and the ronin must fight and settle the score.

Artistry: awful. It seems to be the 80s style but it looks like someone puked paint on the pages and called it good.

re-readability: I'd put this at 0%. I'm not touching this one again.

Why I Liked/Didn't Like It: I didn't like it much at all. The artistry was crap in both inking and drawing. The speech bubbles were more a detriment than anything with the way they were drawn. My biggest complaint thouggh is that wghat felt like 1/4 of the book had no words just pictures.

Final Thoughts: Don't bother with this one. A solid plot concept isn't enough to save this. Add in a M. Night Shamalyanesque twist at the end and I'm surpised and a bit annoyed I finished it atcall

Y • The Last Man Vol. 1: Unmanned

How Everything Flows Together: it flows very nicely

The Storyline: A plague has wiped out every sperm, fetus and living mammal with a Y chromosome except an amateur escape artist named Yorick Brown and his pet monkey Ampersand. Together with a secret government agent and the nation's top bioengineer they must find out what happened and why all the while running away from hordes of women that want him dead.

Artistry: Pretty standard. I can tell what everything is but it never really popped.

re-readability: 35% I'd read it again but not for a while.

Why I Liked/Didn't Like It: I enjoyed it. The art was good, loved the story & the plot is one I've never seen before. However it just didn't pull me in like an amazing story does.

Final Thoughts: Picked up the first 2 volumes based on the blurbs on the back and I can't say I'm disappointed. If you see these grab them and tell me what you think

How Everything Flows Together: it flows very nicely

The Storyline: Yorick, Dr. Mann and Agent 355 are trying to get to Dr. Mann's back up lab in San Francisco after someone blows up her lab in Boston. On the way across the country they are chased by The Daughters Of The Amazons who want Yorick dead.

Artistry: Pretty standard. I can tell what everything is but it never really popped.

re-readability: 40% I'd read it again but not for a while.

Why I Liked/Didn't Like It: I enjoyed it. The art was good, loved the story & the plot is one I've never seen before. However it just didn't pull me in like an amazing story does.

Final Thoughts: everything is the same because i felt the exact same about both of them. Good but not great.

Saga Of The Swamp Thing Vol. 3

How Everything Flows Together: It's 3 different stories in a single binding so the flow is a bit jarring.

The Storyline: Throughout the stories Swamp Thing is learning what he is (plant elemental) and what he can do. He also meets one John Constantine (not affiliated in any way with WZCW) and he fights, vampires a werewolf and evil spirits from an 1840s plantation.

Artistry: standard for the 80s but at least it doesn't look like someone puked color on the page.

re-readability: 40% I'd read it again but not for a while.

Why I Liked/Didn't Like It: I love supernatural stories so this was right up my alley. I wasn't expecting 3 different stories but all 3 were well written and the 80s art style may not be for me it was done very well

Final Thoughts: This is what i was expecting Vol. 2 to be like. Add in my first taste of Mr. Constantine and I can say I really enjoyed this.

Deadpool: The Complete Collection
(Marvel)​

How Everything Flows Together: It's another one that's a collection of stories so the flow isn't there

The Storyline: The only overarching plot device throughout the stories is Deadpool is broke and does any job that comes his way in order to get money. Hijinks ensue and he never gets paid

Artistry: For the number of artists in this collection it was surprisingly consistent. Pretty modern style too which I enjoy.

re-readability: 85% I'd read it again whenever I need a chuckle.

Why I Liked/Didn't Like It: I loved it. Despite not bing a single story I was engrossed from cover to cover and it was funny. When it clicks all the boxes I'm looking for I can overlook the few things I didn't care for.

Final Thoughts: Like the Green Lantern Archives I knew this wasn't a single story which makes it easier to over look the lack of flow. Definetly pick this up if you're a fan.

How Everything Flows Together: The flow is back which is always a nice thing to have

The Storyline: Yorick, 355 & Dr. Mann are still traveling on foot to San Francisco when they discover Yorick may not be the last man on earth.

Artistry: Legible but pretty standard fare from what I've seen.

re-readability: 90% I may pick up the entire series again after all my library books are done

Why I Liked/Didn't Like It: I loved it. There's great progression of the story while keeping things from getting repetitive. I love how we get in Yorick's mind and see how he's actually coping with potentially being the last man on earth.

Final Thoughts: I'm doing a 2nd volume 2 because the deluxe edition has twice as many issues in it. The first 2 volumes were only vol. 1 of the D.E.

How Everything Flows Together: The flow is back which is always a nice thing to have

The Storyline: Yorick, 355 & Dr. Mann are in San Francisco and find out how Yorick survived the man killing plague. Before they can synthesize something that will help the world Ampersand is monkey napped and thry must travel to Japan to find him agsin.

Artistry: Legible but pretty standard fare from what I've seen.

Why I Liked/Didn't Like It: I loved it. There's great progression of the story while keeping things from getting repetitive.

Final Thoughts: I'm quickly falling in love with this series. I can't wait to read the rest

The Storyline: Yorick, 355 & Dr. Mann & Rose have traveled to Japan in search of Ampersand and get split with Dr. Mann & Rose going to her mothers lab while Yorick & 355"go to Tokyo in search of the monkey.

Artistry: The same as before. Good but I'll probably never get used to it enough to give it 5 stars

Why I Liked/Didn't Like It: I loved it. There's great progression of the story while keeping things from getting repetitive. It amazes me how the writer can keep what's basically the same premise from getting stale and boring.

Final Thoughts: Vol. 5 is the end of the series and I can't wait to see what happens and how everything gets wrapped up.

How Everything Flows Together: The flow is still there

The Storyline: The group splits up with Dr. Mann & Rose staying in China to help her mother while Yorick & 355 go on to Paris to look for Beth while at the same time dodging the Israeli military.

Artistry: The same as before. Good but I'll probably never get used to it enough to give it 5 stars

re-readability: 90% I may pick up the entire series again after all my library books are done.

Why I Liked/Didn't Like It: I loved it. There's great progression of the story while keeping things from getting repetitive. I also like the fact we're never out rightvtold what caused the plague. I also like how they ended the story in the future so we can see how humanity survived.

Final Thoughts: Out of everything I've done this is the first time I've finished a series. I can't recommend this enough, it's that good.

George R.R. Martin's The Hedge Knight
(Jet City Comics)​

How Everything Flows Together: As could as you'd expect from Martin.

The Storyline: Duncan, squire for Hedge Knight Ser Arlen decides to take his Master's place in a local tourney. On the way he meets a boy called Egg. Once he gets to the tourney he finds out who Egg is and is charged with kidnapping him. He must find 6 others and duel his accusers in a Trial of Seven to prove his innocence.


Artistry: I can only descripe it as grimy but it's perfect for this story

re-readability: 100% after I read the other 2.

Why I Liked/Didn't Like It: I loved it. The story kept me engrossed and the art added so much to the story.

Final Thoughts: I've been meaning to read this for a while nowr and I'm glad i grabbed this version. I suggest everyone read this new fans and old.

Saga Of The Swamp Thing Vol. 4

How Everything Flows Together: Another one where flow is perfect.

The Storyline: Swamp Thing must team up with Spectre, Deadman, Dr. Fate, Etrigan and The Phantom Stranger in order to stop the Primordial Shadow from destroying Heaven.

Artistry: The same as the rest which is to say that 80s style I'm not to fond of. I have gotten used to it though.

re-readability: I'd put this at 90% for Vol. 4. I love Supernatural stories and this had plenty of that.

Why I Liked/Didn't Like It: I really enjoyed it. It kept me engrossed, deals with some of my favorite subject matter and the 80s style grows on you after a bit.

Final Thoughts: My earliestvlook at Deadman & Spectre and my only look so far at The Phantom Stranger so if you like any of them i suggest finding this and reading it.

Ms. Marvel: Civil War II

How Everything Flows Together: Another one where flow is perfect.

The Storyline: Ms. Marvel has a personal stake in the second Marvel Civil War when her best friend is blown up trying to break another friend from jail for a crime he hasn't even committed yet. It's at that point she has to choose between doing the easy thing or the right thing.

Artistry: Not 100% crisp but still amazing.

re-readability: I'd put this at 90%. I will most definitely read this again when I get to the other Civil War II stories.

Why I Liked/Didn't Like It: I loved most everything about this but i couldn't get as invested as I like because I'm a white christian male and not a muslim Pakistani-American teen female. It's totally a me problem but I just didn't get it.

Final Thoughts: A great story and my first look at the 2nd Civil War. It's gotten me excited for the rest that's for sure.

A prelude to Blackest Night
Green Lantern: Agent Orange

How Everything Flows Together: Another one where flow is perfect.

The Storyline: Larfleeze (Agent Orange) has been left alone for billions of years but after both he & The Guardians see the pther go back on their truce and attack each other. While this is going on Hal Jordan must find a way to get the Blue Ring of Hope off his finger as it's interfering with his Green Lantern powers.

There is also a short story about an Orange Lantern contruct named Glomulous

Artistry: Crisp & clean. I especially loved thexway they drew and inked in Larfleeze

re-readability: I'd put this at 100% it's a very engrossing & enjoyable story that I will probably read again fairly soon.

Why I Liked/Didn't Like It: With Larfleeze being a favorite character of mine I really enjoyrd it. The only criticism would be the short story at the end. As cute as it was it's not needed.

Final Thoughts: a short but really fun read. If you want the entire story on the Blackest Night this is a must read.

A prelude to Blackest Night
Green Lantern: Rage of the Red Lanterns
(DC)​

How Everything Flows Together: Another one where flow is perfect.

The Storyline: After they defeat Sinestro and his corps in the Sinestro Corps War the Guardians sentence him to death on his home planet of Korugar. While this is going on a being named Atrocitus is able to harness the red light of rage and makes his own corps to kidnap Sinestro and torture him. Hal Jordan & the newly discovered Blue Lanterns travel to the planet Ysmault to save Sinestro. They are able to save Sinestro but not before he is taken over by both a red & blue ring

Artistry: i bought the kindle version so that helped. I'd imagine that it's the same in hard copy though

re-readability: in kindle form i'd give this a 70%. I'll more than likely read it again but after i buy a hard copy

Why I Liked/Didn't Like It: Blackest Night is my favorite comic arc so is it any surprise i love this one?

Final Thoughts: another must read in the Blackest Night saga.
