Anyway tonight was exactly what the Redsox needed. We got to Wainright and hopefully we do the same tomorrow vs Wacha. I don't get why the Cardinals left Wainright in so long though, I think maybe it would've been better to get him out after the 2nd and get him back out there for Game 3 then they could have set it up for Wacha in 6 and Wainright in 7 if those games are needed. But now they only get 1 more start from Wainright during the series.

Cardinals were just letting the Sox tire themselves out. It's strategy.

A) I think Middlebrooks did intentionally try to trip him.
B) It was the right call.
C) Intent doesn't matter...as you know if you're still watching as it keeps getting said.
D) Craig would have scored if he hadn't been tripped. He almost scored anyways.

I just saw it on SportsCenter and I think it was the right call too.
Here's the thing: it changed the way the game ended. It wasn't an instance of the umpire citing some obscure rule that doesn't mean anything with the play. The trip, intentional or not, happened and prevented a run from scoring. By rule, the runner is awarded home plate. Not much controversy there.

Taking a quick look at the rule, I'd say I agree with the call. For those wondering, "obstruction" is defined as:
Rule 2.00 (Obstruction) Comment: If a fielder is about to receive a thrown ball and if the ball is in flight directly toward and near enough to the fielder so he must occupy his position to receive the ball he may be considered “in the act of fielding a ball.” It is entirely up to the judgment of the umpire as to whether a fielder is in the act of fielding a ball. After a fielder has made an attempt to field a ball and missed, he can no longer be in the “act of fielding” the ball. For example: an infielder dives at a ground ball and the ball passes him and he continues to lie on the ground and delays the progress of the runner, he very likely has obstructed the runner.

The real thing going forward, though, is how badly did Craig re-injure himself on that play?
It's not really that big of a deal. He already was not in the lineup, so the only thing the Cardinals lost was a DH and PH.

He was the whole reason the Cards were in that situation. Uehara was almost unhittable this year and Craig hits a double off of him. 6 of the 9 guys in the lineup at the point would've had a realistic chance of scoring on that, but Yadi isn't one of them.
It was a great rip, no doubt about it. But let's not kid ourselves, Craig's contribution to the game was one swing. It was obviously a great one, but his contribution was one swing.
If he re-injured himself and cannot play (which I would think reports would have told us by now), it's not going to have any large effect on the Cardinals. They've played for a long time without him, and he had one swing in Game 3.

Does anyone think it's utterly ridiculous how the media is trying to spin this as a feel good story for Boston fans?
I guess it's true Boston sports fans just haven't had much to celebrate over the last ten to 15 years. Besides those World Series victories...and the Patriot Superbowl championships...and the Bruins Stanley Cup victory...and the Celtics NBA Championship.
But besides that, those Boston sports fans have just had nothing to cheer for.

I think more so they're saying its a feel good story because of the marathon bombings earlier this year.
No, they constantly mention "they haven't seen a Sox victory in Fenway Park in the World Series since 1918".
My heart bleeds for them, truly it does.
