MLB 2013 Postseason LD

Talk about a HUGE win! As a Redsox fan....I couldn't be any happier right now. We couldn't go into Detroit down 2-0. That grand slam woke up the Redsox bats and hopefully Verlander isn't himself in game 3.

Knew it. Bye bye world series chances. No way Tigers win anything anymore. The bullpen is hopeless. Jackson, Hunter, Infante, Fielder, Avila (not counting today), Kelly and Iglesias are just awful.

Don't be silly and throwing all the blame on Benoit. There were 3 other guys before them that couldn't get to the 9th. He put the pitch right where Avila called for. Just credit Ortiz on getting just enough of it to get over.

It'll be alright, this teams gone through events like this before just to come back through. We got Verlander G3 so I'm not gonna start panicking yet.

Verlander can be himself and they can easily still lose. Unless Verlander goes 9, then the Tigers just cannot win.

Don't blame Benoit my ass. I blame the entire bullpen. Each one of them is just awful. They can't close games.

If they couldn't close games I don't think they'd be in the playoffs right now, champ. Clearly this must be about your second baseball game ever watched because otherwise you'd know how good Benoit and Smyly in particular have been this year. One bad outing doesn't change that.

Jumping off the ledge after game 2 in a tied series is lol at best. This is baseball. C'mon now.

Game 1 was lucky. No one in that bullpen is great. They have no shutdown guys.
Alburquerque - Horrible
Veras - Okay
Coke - Horrible
Smyly - Okay, but inconsistent.
Benoit - Not a closer
Porcello - Horrible

The Tigers cannot win with the bullpen. They might get by every once in a while, but this is not a bullpen that can win a world series. Having three okay guys is not a world series type bullpen. Sure this might just be one game, except their bullpen blows it all the time. This is not an isolated incident. Boston has much better hitters than the As. The Tigers right now are easily the weakest team left in the final four. Fuck it, I need to study for my midterms.

Not the second game I watched. Again not a world series caliber bullpen. They do not have a closer and a consistent good bullpen guy. Plain and simple.

Last I checked the next 3 games are in Detroit. And Verlander and Sherzer will pitch 2 of those games so they'll be fine.

Oh, and the Tigers won plenty games in which the bullpen needed to finish the game, so I think they'll be fine. Is their bullpen necessarily good? No, but it'll be good enough. This series will go back to Boston, but I think it'll be 3-2 Detroit heading into Game 6.

Whatever happens is whatever. However, David Ortiz is a legend. That dude seriously is. Everyone in Boston just had to know Ortiz was hitting that ball out of the park.

Excellent play and this is coming from a die hard Yankees fan.

Anybody else remember watching the MLB postseason with this theme?

Man that takes me back.

Well today was a big momentum shift in the ALCS. The Redsox coming out and BEATING Justin Verlander even by a 1-0 margin is big. We needed to get a win off Detroit's starters not the bullpen and today we did just that.

I loved in the post gome when they kept asking the Sox about how great Verlander was and I believe Gomes turned things around on the interviewer by saying how great Lackey was.

Ortiz did steroids, he is not a legend (not saying this cause I'm a Tigers fan and I hate him).

I almost forgot the other thing that kills the Tigers. Their bats go cold (especially since about 6 of their guys are automatic outs. 5 if Fielder actually feels like hitting). Pinch hitting Iglesias is baffling. Dirks might suck but Iglesias hits about as good as a pitcher (his .303 regular season avg is deceiving. He his average will take a nose dive next year).

They didn't really beat Verlander. The Tigers beat themselves. 1 run off a starter is not really beating him. Fister is not going to win. So Scherzer and Sanchez gotta save them.

They did beat Verlander though. Last I checked it was a Mike Napoli homerun that gave him the loss was it not?

Also I know he's been accused but IIRC, Ortiz was never busted and has never admitted to doing roids either. There for no actual proof. He's the greatest DH of all-time and a future hall of famer. Also if you have a problem with steriod users then do you have a problem with Peralta playing?

Never said I didn't have a problem with Peralta. Ortiz said he didn't know what supplements he used that might of led to a positive test (which happened I think in 03 or 04, can't remember) which is just bullshit. I don't think he deserves to be a hall of famer. I don't think Peralta should ever be considered to be a hall of famer (even if he was that good).

The loss stat is also a bit deceiving. Verlander only gave up one run and the Tigers offense was horrible. They weren't exactly killing Verlander so he wasn't beat in my opinion. Cabrera's multiple injuries hurts the Tigers a lot. Fielder is not doing well (hasn't all season. He might have had a lot of RBIs but his numbers are down a lot compared to last year) so the threats are Martinez and Peralta. Everyone else is either awful or incredibly cold. Sure they got 5 runs in game 2 but they only scored over 3 runs twice so far in the postseason.

Miggy may be banged up but he's still having a good run in the post season is he not? The Tigers got beat last night by a great pitching performance from John Lackey combined with Tazawa and Koji coming out of the bullpen and getting some huge outs.

Verlander did pitch great yes but he was beat. That's like saying Lester wasn't beat in Game 1 just because the Redsox offense did nothing. It was Verlander who gave up the homerun to Napoli, not like he scored on an error from the defense or anything.

Nah I think starters only giving up one run and losing cause of that should not be counted as a loss (for the pitcher of course). I blame the loss on the offense, not Verlander. Lackey was great, he does deserves a win.

Miggy is hitting under .300 so he hasn't had a great postseason. If he was healthy, I have no doubt he would be doing a lot more.

Also Fielder really needs to stop hitting into groundouts. 214 million dollars and he hits into groundouts about 9/10 times.

I'm a Yankees fan and even I know stooping to that level to disrespect David Ortiz is ignorant and stupid.

Yeah cause remembering what supplements you use is so hard. Also look at his home run stat explode. He took steroids, its obvious.

Tigers bullpen. Knew they would blow it. Said it before, not a world series bullpen.

Redsox are now 6-0 in Game 6's. Pretty awesome stat right there.

Anybody got some World Series predictions? I'll take the Redsox in 6.

I don't give two fucks either way who wins but my prediction is Red Sox in 7. Home Field just does it for them.
