Madden felt Jerico should have been squashed

I sort of agree with Madden on this point. And that's surpising, because most of what Madden says is bullshit.

But really, whether Ryback squashed jericho or not.. we all knew Cena wasnt losing that title, that quickly.

If Jericho jobbed clean to Fandango at Wrestlemania, wouldn't it make sense for him to job to someone who's going to be competing for the WWE Champinship at Payback? It just doesnt seem at this point that it matters much who Jericho jobs to. Ever since his jobbing angle during his first return the fans have gotten used to seeing him lose to ridiculously mismatched competitors like Fandango. Ryback going over Jericho would've definitively made him look strong going into his title match. It would seem like Ryback is marking his territory and making a name for himself during Cena's absence.

For Jericho there is a pretty big difference between jobbing and being squashed. Jericho jobbing in a match generally means having a competitive match where he looks like he can believably win against his opponent even if he doesn't. Being squashed is a different spectrum than that, and is what Madden proposed. Losing to Ryback itself isn't an issue, but doing it by being squashed apparently would have been in the eyes of many. The concept of being invincible by beating a normally high level opponent isn't a bad one in theory but what George Steele's Barber and some other posters mentioned helps explain why the concept also could have had it's faults...against Ryback, not Jericho.

Ryback needed to win cleanly. Either way, having Jericho laid out at the end of the match was what they needed to have Ryback look good going into the PPV. He does need to demolish a couple of wrestlers though, like mid-carders going nowhere anyway. It's a good way to make him look unstoppable. I would even go as far as making Cena look weaker to make him losing seem like a possibility.
