Lucha Underground Season Three Discussion

The move follows a lot of discussion in the last month within the wrestling world that the series would be leaving The El Rey Network completely for Netflix, which if that turns out to be the case, will be the first wrestling promotion/series hosted on the streaming service.
That's a damn good news for Lucha Underground and the fans also.

Even more interesting is that it will return in this month itself. I may be wrong here but I guess that it's going to lead to a much larger audience and that's always a good news. New fans and whatnot. Happy for Lucha Underground.

We have to wait until the 31st of may for the return of season 3. Fucking ridiculous, abso- fucking-lutely ridiculous.

The only reason i will justify this is if LU is moving networks or to netflix. A midseason break is not 5 fucking months long

Plenty of "mid season breaks" end up being nearly an entire year. I wish the wait wasn't so long, but there has to be a practical reason.

I read a report which said that the mid season break wasn't supposed to be this long. The plans were changed and then it was decided to have this long mid-season break. Also, it has everything linked to the talks about the deal with Netflix which has been finalized. Netflix is going to air first two seasons before the remaining half of third season.

Netflix is an on demand service. There is literally no need for things to be put on hold for netflix. And i havent seen anywhere from Lucha Underground that says the netflix deal is finalised

It's all confirmed as of now. I couldn't find the particular report but I did read it which said that the mid-season break wasn't supposed to be this long. The plans were changed and then decided to have an almost 6 month hiatus as a mid-season break.
WrestleZone said:
As noted, the second half of the third season of Lucha Underground will air on El Rey Network beginning May 31st.

Earlier today, Court Bauer confirmed to WZ in the following statement that seasons one and two of Lucha Underground will air on Nexflix:

“The Netflix deal is an extension of Lucha Underground’s broadcasting distribution model”, Bauer said. “Netflix will air Season One and Two with an opportunity to air future seasons thereafter on Netflix that have already aired on El Rey. Lucha Underground is not moving their programming exclusively to Netflix.”

Netflix Canada has since confirmed the series will be coming to Netflix with the following Tweet:

Ben Lypka @BenLypka
@Netflix_CA American Netflix is getting @LuchaElRey starting Feb. 15. Please tell me it's coming to Canada
Netflix Canada ✔@Netflix_CA
@BenLypka @LuchaElRey Oh yes, we'll be body slamming Canada with this gem too.

So its only the first two seasons going onto netflix. Checked the comments section on the facebook announcement (which was really lackluster) and it was people just slagging the fuck out of them. Apparently the midseason break is due to the fact that LU contracts state that while the season is airing they cant work for anyone else. On top of all this a nice amount of comments blasting the fact that gimmicks were being registered

Oh hai!

Just caught the first episode of this second half of season three. This episode was the anticipated 'All Night Long' bout between Johnny Mundo and the Mack. I won't spoil the result because I'm sure at least one or two fans might only be reminded that Lucha is back after seeing this thread pop up. The match itself was damn good. There is indeed alot of "the flippy shit" in Lucha Underground, but there's more than enough well-told stories in the ring peppered throughout the season to keep me invested. This was one such contest.

I'd also like to note that within the first 10 minutes, Striker and Vampiro delivered the best commentary I've heard from them, really laying out potential strategies that Mack or Mundo could execute, including a pretty detailed explanation of their arsenals. It's been awhile since I heard commentary like that.

But then later in the match, Matt delivers an apathetic platitude unrelated to the highspot that is happening at the very moment. I don't understand this dunce.

While I think we're all in agreement that the break that they took was unfortunate, with possibly questionable reasoning behind it, I'll say as a fan that I enjoyed the product. Great match. I'm glad Lucha is back.

Just caught up with it. Very good match indeed. Not a classic or a great match but still very good.

What I don't understand is the result. All Night Long match should end a feud as it genuinely could be used to end a feud that has been going on for a while. It shouldn't lead to another "simple" match. That's the only nitpick I've.

Nonetheless, Welcome Back, Lucha Underground. I missed you indeed.

Very glad this is back. Complete crap that it even went off, especially as long as it did. Not exactly the biggest fan of iron man matches (or any timed match for that matter) because it all comes down to the final 10 seconds and that final fall that will or wont happen. Watching Mack roll around and struggle to get to the final fall was terrible in my opinion.

Thought this weeks episode was much better. Really looking forward to the cup but I wish it was just a reward in itself and not a number 1 contender tournament. Gorgeous trophy

Good stuff. I haven't had time to check out this weeks episode, but hopefully I'll get to it later today. I enjoyed the all night long match after not seeing Lucha underground for a very long time. People near me were talking about it which was nice to see. Strangers conversing about pro-wrestling in almost any form that is positive is always a good thing.

Hahahahahahahahaha....Cage just killed someone, this is great. Also can someone explain to me if Kobra Moon needs to keep Drago on a chain to control him why the fuck does he do any of her bidding once he's off the chain. Either she has complete control of him for whatever reasons or she has none and cant let him off the chain. Complete plot hole.

All in all solid episode but cant help feel that Black Lotus triad is a complete waste of three and a half fucking seasons and Black Lotus especially was given a huge rub by taking out the biggest heel (even though he's cheered) the company has in Pentagon. Kind of disappointing that there was no build to Pentagon's return and even more disappointing that there will be no revenge on the triad or the triad getting revenge on Dario

And i forgot to post it earlier but here is what I come up with for the cueto cup. Pretty much the only things I'm not sure on in the first round is Sexy Star v PJ Black. I could see this going either way with Jack Evans getting involved the most likely outcome because I dont see the point of Puma v Star

Just caught up on the past two weeks. If the first half of the first round is any indication this will be a fun tournament. Fun balls-to-the-wall lucha style, but I'm sure later rounds will tell apt stories.

My biggest complaint with previous tournaments was a lack of brackets. Glad to see that they've gone with them this time around. Mack being the 3rd spot in the sweet 16round. Well played, LU. Well played.

I'm normally annoyed by on screen romance in wrestling, but because this one will likely build to an in ring payoff, I can invest in it. Especially when that payoff will resemble Fenix vs Marty, which is a program hopefully not limited to this next round. Maybe they can have a draw in their match and give someone a bye to the next round while continuing the feud. Melissa Santos; any in ring experience?

While Lucha Underground's cinema-styled backstage segments are always a highlight, I absolutely adore their approach to building Johnny Mundo vs Rey Mysterio right now. Straight forward video packages laying the groundwork for their story. It's not a tool that Lucha uses enough, but it might be the first program that merits this style of build.

Or maybe Rey and Johnny's schedules conflicted for filming so they went with this.

Hahahahahahahahaha....Cage just killed someone, this is great.

So great. I enjoyed Cage as a babyface but heel suits him *snicker* like a glove. Probably the most intriguing angle, but Marty/Mariposa/Fenix/Melissa could quickly overtake that.

Also can someone explain to me if Kobra Moon needs to keep Drago on a chain to control him why the fuck does he do any of her bidding once he's off the chain. Either she has complete control of him for whatever reasons or she has none and cant let him off the chain. Complete plot hole.

Just watch this movie. Either it will fill a plot hole for you within reasonable explanation, or you just get to watch a great movie. No lose.

Is this for good? Any reason they can't be coming back (contracts, etc) ?

Well one of them is meant to have signed for WWE so I think that would kill the black lotus triad off.

Another solid episode this week again, cant wait for melissa santos to eventually stab fenix in the back. I wonder where this leaves drago and aerostar. Aerostar cant take the whole reptile gang down by himself. I really wish the tall fucker took on mascarita that would have been hilarious

Does anyone still care about this? I'm up to date but its starting to become a grind. Everything seems to just be blending together and each week its the same shit. They progress a story but then nothing happens with it for a month, or there is a massive disconnect in the out of ring stuff (Jeremiah Crane beat the shit out of Mil Muertes with chairs backstage and then it was like nothing happened. Coupled with the 2 year break in the middle of the season and all the momentum is gone, the cup got me excited but its just fizzled to nothing really. The roster has kinda become too big but somehow too small at the same time. You have a clear main event or top tier talent (Rey, Mundo, Puma, Pentagon and Matanza) but then everyone else gets treated like a big deal despite the fact that they lose all the time

Hopefully Ultima Lucha can bring my excitement back

I only glanced at your post, A11, as I have fallen quite behind. I think I agree with your overall sentiment. It just hasn't been must-see lately. I think the build for Mundo vs Mysterio has been great, but this tournament has hardly been compelling. Great style, little substance.

Last I saw was Marty went all Abdullah on Fenix, which frankly disturbed me (to desired effect, I'd hope), but I'd have to really think long and hard to remember what the other matches in this tournament have been.

Just caught up with 100th episode. Was seeing Lucha Underground after a long time. I liked it all.

The three big matches were good enough with the main event being the clear favorite of mine. Mundo is such an awesome heel. The stuff with Ricky was hilarious. The challenger for Mundo, Prince Puma was protected enough. That's a big plus point for me.

Pentagon Dark! CERO MIEDO! Glad to see him get in another big match. Still waiting for him to get the big title someday! Dreams are good, you know. I hope that he wins that title at least if not the big one.

Rey Mysterio made Matanza look like a Monster. Be it the match or post match attack. And Dario's foxy methods continue. I wonder if we are getting this match again at Ultima Lucha Tres.

All in all, very hyped for Ultima Lucha Tres.

Watched next episode as well.

I'm really interested in Killshot Vs. Dante Fox as the previous matches they had were good enough. Don't really care for Famous B. Nice short match.

Now onto the next match. I never knew that Melissa Santos will impress me by her skills in the ring. I liked this match and the result as well. Brings more personal heat between Fenix & Marty.

Pentagon Dark! I just love him. There's a certain aura around his character that's so impressive and mystical. I didn't like the result initially but what came out of it was good.

Dario Cueto is so good as the Authority figure. Rarely do I like Authority characters but Dario is indeed too good at his character.

Even more hyped for Ultima Lucha Tres. Puma/Mundo, Matanza/Azteca, Dark/Havoc, Muertes/Crane/Cage, Killshot/Fox are going to be fun.

So, I haven't watched much Lucha this season at all(if any). But I tuned in this week just in time to see Melissa Santos wrestle. I enjoyed watching that.

Ultima Lucha Tres I

Loved this episode. The opener was just filler and the main focus was on the main event just like it should've been. And the main event delivered for sure.

Killshot Vs. Dante Fox seemed to me the most violent match I've ever seen. And it actually made sense and made me feel the feud even more personally. A match everyone should watch albeit not those who can't see too much violence. There are a couple of cringeworthy moments but it's almost a perfect main event. THIS IS ACTUALLY AWESOME!

I haven’t watched this show in a long time, but I did watch the Hell of War.

This match was absolutely insane. Killshot and Fox were beating the absolute shit out of each other, and glass spots in general just make me wince.

It was a garbage match, but there was an actual story and some storytelling going on so it was an awesome garbage match

The Cueto cup was a disaster. It's left no build to Ultima Lucha and it was full of nothing matches until the final 4. The trios titles have been an absolute after thought and so many stories have just been left ignored for weeks or had nothing but quick mentions or matches that did nothing to progress the story. Now everything needs to be wrapped up but its all just stale and lacking momentum. The show peaked season one, dipped season two but its lost the plot this season. At this point I'm not fussed that season 4 looks unlikely and I dont think i'll watch it regardless (especially if Ricochet ends up in the WWE once season 3 ends anyway)
