This thread gets done about once every 18 months or so.
So, how do you tip? Here's my standard:
1) Dine-in at a restaurant with server: 20% of the bill.
2) Delivery: $3 flat. I've never ordered above $30 worth of food but I might consider giving more if I ordered more than $45 worth of food. I'll tip $2 to $3 extra if it's raining or snowing.
3) Tip jars: JACK SHIT.
4) Carryout: JACK SHIT.
I'd like to add that the last two piss me off to no end. In the case of tip jars, you're already getting paid fairly for your job, I'm not going to give you anything extra. In the case of carryout, I don't care if you only make $2.00 an hour. It takes you 10 seconds to bring my food to me from the back. If you don't like it, tell your asshole boss to bring my food to me instead.
