It's not a crap comparison at all. The point I'm making is that most people would consider it reprehensible to joke in front of a 5 year old cancer girl that she is going to die. But it's NOT reprehensible because of the person, but rather the situation.
JGlass kept trying to defend his position by saying it's okay because they weren't making fun of dying, they were making fun of the person who was annoying and does dumb things. The 5 year old illustrates that even when a person is annoying or does dumb things, that is not enough to justify making a death joke. Once you acknowledge you cannot defend this type of joke simply by saying you're only making it because of the person, you can then apply that to other situations.
It was not a crap comparison. It was an argument where I purposefully created a situation where most people would not be okay with this type of joke, and am using it to apply to a situation which is relatively similar, with the only exception being the target.
The fact so many people seem upset that I would bring what people would consider "an innocent" shows that my comparison worked quite well. Because, as I said, once you realize how distasteful it is to laugh about a little cancer girl dying, it's easy to see how it's distasteful to laugh about someone who is the military dying as part of their military duties.
