Glass Ass: The OFFICIAL JGlass Thread

The one chronicler who would actually know what went down in the barracks (on account that his sons went there) flatly contradicts that. Aristotle blamed a lack of homosexuality and pederasty for the "poor" culture of Sparta compared to Athens and Corinth. There's also psychological backing for Sparta not enforcing mandatory "spear practice" after dark. Their culture was about as non-misogynistic as it's possible to be in ancient times. Women could do what they wanted, inherit from their parents, were economically more important than men (because ya know they were in the barracks so often their wife had to take care of the estate) and didn't married until they were old enough to "enjoy sex" (that was actually a law). Athens, which was filled with pederasty and child molestation was at the opposite end of the spectrum, to the point that if a woman got raped her husband legally had to divorce her.

The kicker? Modern psychological research indicates that men who were sexually abused as children are more likely to be misogynous when they grow up.

Ah, I knew all that about the women, they were also encouraged to compete with men at sports and all that malarky. By all accounts (Discovery Channel, not Channel 4) the sexual nature between mentor and mentee was far from sexual abuse on an adolescent, just accepted practice between what passed in Greek times as mature chaps. Perhaps Aristotle's problem was that it wasnt a free for all? Besides the tough nature of Spartan Women would've made mysoginy very difficult. Especially from Men who didnt see much of them.

Or perhaps your right and bumming was kept at a premium and I've been lied to not only by that History Program presented by Historians but my overly touchy history teacher also. That'll be annoying.

Which is of course why the boys are often shown not enjoying it very much. I mean it was an accepted practice in Athens for women to be locked up and fed worse than their brothers. Doesn't mean it's not abusive.

Aristotle was educated in a city where calling women second class citizens would be an insult to second class citizens. They were literally locked up in their bedrooms until they started menstruating. At which point they'd be married to a 30 year old whose sole motivation for a wife would be "heirs" and will probably continue to see ****es and fuck little boys like he did before getting married.

Spartan toughness had little to do with it. Spartan culture did. Though the latter influences the former. Spartan women were tough because they were fed like males, educated like males, and had most if not all of the same rights as males.

Eh, the sources for Sparta are few, far between and not the most reliable as they're mostly written by foreigners who inject their own bias.

Well, yes to say it wasn't abusive would be a bit far, but by the standards of the times it was probably, err, tender? Plus these were people that were trying to form a bond that would last on the battlefield. The fact that they wouldn't allow Women to marry before they could "enjoy sex" would say that at least there was a level of maturity there. But that was never my point, only that from nearly every source I've ever seen, that is how it went down.

True Spartan culture made them tough, and they were important, the men were bred almost solely for fighting which made the Women necessary, plus they realised that healthy Women made healthier babies, which meant less got tossed off the cliff and more could fight. I once read that Spartan men, when they got a wife, often needed her to have her head shaved and put in a darkened room when they would then go in to have sex with her, they had to acclimatise themselves to Women, which is because they were overly taught and probably overly sexed by men in their upbringing. The Women didn't have such a sheltered upbringing and were physically tough, because of the culture obviously, so if anything they had the advantage in the day to day life, as Spartan men were just starting out as it were. Erm, but yeah, chances are the soldiering involved a fair bit of gayness.

Leonidas's "boy lovers" comment may have been a shot at the peadophilic nature of the Athenians, more-so than the homosexual aspect.

Obviously some of that is a hypothesis I've formed based on what I've read and seen and you can call the accuracy of that into question.

Well the documentary I watched was produced by Louie Spence, so make of that what you will.

Ah Wrestlezone, they only place I know where I can make a comment about being sexually abused in school and end up debating whether Spartan soldiers got it on.

Unrelated to the history of Sparta, Matt Martlaro, or someone else in WWE (who either has access to the account or notified him) has spotted that he left the playlist I posted earlier public and has made it private.

This makes me a sad Remix.

I enjoy holding doors open for women and asserting my dominance over the opposite sex. I hope someone really chews me out over it one day. I have a comeback I'd love to try out.

It's extremely historically biased basically.

Yes. The battles, the motivations, the majority of the iconic dialogue, The Immortals, the overwelming numbers discrepency (killing of 2,000 to 20,000 in favor of the spartans, including under 100 casualties the first three days of the battle)

Also, I beg to differ on Xerxes, he was quite fucking nuts, though thats a pretty rleative term for the ancient world.

Also, at the time, The Spartans were inf act the military leaders of ancient greece.

I think most of the men in the Greek city-states enjoyed homosexual relationships should they have been in a high enough class to engage in one. This made the line where Leonidas calls the Athenians "boy lovers" particularly humorous to me.

I about walked out of the fucking theatre on that one, for the reasons you just stated. The absurdity, and downright exploitation of bigoting stereotypes.

"Hey, the Spartans are tough, so lets not only demonize the easterners, but made the adrogonous homosexuals as well"

Also, both of you are right. Spartan women were by far some of the most influential and strongly empowered women in the ancient world.

On the other hand, Spartan guys, especially in childhood, were major gay. Major gay.

Also, I think the isolation period he is speaking of is the Agoge, were they were in fact kept from women, turned loose in the wilderness to kill things to eat after being purposely starved, and sexing it up with thier male mentors (though this was not mandated, but fairly common)

QUADPOOOOOOOOOOST

my RR was beyond fucking epic.

At one point, Jake Fury ends up one of three guys in the ring....With the fucking tag team champs, Damien Sandow and Antonio Cesaro. In an unbelivabley realistic manner, they start double teaming the shit of fury, and try to eliminate him....I realize what number we are at, and i begin cheering out loud "Hang on J glass!!! Hang oooon! Hang on!!"

5,4,3,2,1.................

and the bodies start FLYING.

We eliminate one, until the next guy comes down, and things begin to build up. You made it to the final 5, ill have you know.

Jake Fury, Mighty NorCal, Bret Hart, Wade Barrett, and Tensai.

Barrett elimanted you. Which is even MORE epic, if you recall my plans for you when i draft you to SD. Norcal eliminates Tensai, Barrett eliminates Hart, then NorCal eliminates Barrett.

Even THAT played out incredible, like a real match....Barrett eliminated him, and taunted him by looking down at him waving goodbye...While NorCal was standing right behind him, with a stored finisher. Clothesline, eliminated, match over.

A worthy quadpost, that sounds incredible. You gotta love when stuff like that works out perfectly, even when the stupid cutscenes are always messing up. Who are you going after at Mania again? Punk?

Lesnar, ending his yearlong blood lusting title reign, with allusions to Beowulf in some of the booking and promos.

So. Last night I began descending into madness trying to figure out what I had fucked up to cause your CAWs moveset to reset continually....until I discovered your wrestlerr weighs 183 pounds. Thus activating the weight detection moveset when going against roughly two thirds of the roster. Weight detection gives you about three grapple moves total. Which is why it appeared as though your moveset had been reset repaetedly.

Cue NorCal transforming into a tornado of rage.

That's kind of strange considering I'm pretty sure I gave him a fairly varied weight detection moveset and plenty of non-lifting moves knowing he'd be at least one weight class lower than most of his competition, but glad you caught it before it caused you to body slam your television. At Fury's finishers and signatures don't depend on weight.

It is strange though, as I'm pretty sure my character is like, 75% striking moves.

Thats more an issue with the whole weight detection system. It doesnt see "striking move" it only sees "grapple move =/= weight detection"

I gave him a different body type, and then thinned him out in the shape section. He is now 221. Still a lightweight, but not so pigeon-holed.

It made the mini-feud I gave him with Meng extremely infuriating

Also, im stealing Graves new theme for when Norcs takes the title off Lesnar. It firts perfect becuase of how it says "I can see you fading away" and Norcs two finishers are chokeholds.

I've had the same issue with my version of El Califa Dragon. His standing finisher is some sort of kick that I can't recall off hand but it defaults to a pile driver which makes absolutely no sense.

That's preposterous, what's the point of making an entire section of non-lifting moves then? Come on THQ, get your shit together.

Oh wait... it's a little late for that, isn't it?

Did he go over Meng or was this a mutual push type of situation?

I really hope 2k builds a whole new engine and start from scratch. Even if it meant waiting a good while for a new game I'd be ok with it.

Im still coming to grips with the fact 2K got the liscense, and what things are almost sure to be on their way to us.

My fucking goodness. Its like being a third world country orphan adopted by a multi-billionaire CEO a month before christmas.

I agree man, 2k focuses on simulation which is what we've wanted for fucking ever. Add in the great management tool system that they've put in NBA2K13 only geared towards wrestling and it'll be money.

I was good with the license going to either EA or 2k. Anything is better then Yukes doing the game yet again. Hell get AKI to develop the engine and let 2k develop the management while also putting in a highly detailed creation system. We'll get the best of everything.

I'm going to the Blues/Predators game in STL Tuesday night. I may try to get onto the ice so I can likely make it on the news, that way Thriller will be able to cherish me forever.

That would be awesome, although hockey players aren't usually too nice to people that jump the glass. How long are you in St. Louis for?
