Glass Ass: The OFFICIAL JGlass Thread

Just got back from Her. That was absolutely wonderful. May have cracked my top five films. Definitely cracks my top ten. Forgive me if I spew a few words about it in reaction.

In a word, the film was refreshing. Obviously, given my own thoughts and ideas on AI, to see it reflected on screen like that was something that made the story really hit home. The best part was how Theodore's friends reacted to Samantha. It wasn't with revulsion, it wasn't with shock. With the exception of the ex-wife it was something that maybe gave them a little pause until it was accepted almost instantly. The scene with the child I loved especially.

It really showed the humanity of AI built like that and as that's something I've also explored with Erin Toyota again that really hit home. I call it all refreshing because it didn't give you the usual pitfalls of stories like that - The AIs didn't conspire to take over the world, Samantha didn't become clingy or jealous to a psychotic extreme, and very little time was spent on whether or not the relationship was truly that "unnatural". It was just so nice to see a movie without that cynicism that usually accompanies this subject - again, something I try to do when I write for or about Erin Toyota. Trust me, there are pages and pages of notes and little paragraphs and explanations of how she works on my hard drive somewhere.

Really, the movie had heart, heart not normally scene in movies that try to handle this subject matter and that is why it really struck a chord in my eyes. As you said, it was a movie about a relationship that ends with a breakup because of irreconcilable differences and it was presented in a sweet and moving manner. What the movie really shows is how much we can change in a short amount of time and it did an excellent job of it.

I also really, really loved the ending. He and his friend sitting on the rooftop, trying to deal with the loss of their friends together. It didn't end with a melodramatic kiss or anything, it was just like the film itself - wonderfully contemplative and quiet in its own way.

Excellent stuff. Just excellent.

I'm happy, but not all that surprised that we saw eye to eye on a lot of this movie.

I'm glad you talked about the ending. Both my friend that I saw Her with and I really liked the ending, but we had really different opinions on it. I said I liked it because it wasn't a "happily ever after" ending, but he said it was.

I think the whole point of the ending was to show how "happily ever after" doesn't really exist. Theodore thought he had that with Samantha, but we saw how, underneath what seemed like a very steady relationship, there was a volatile issue that was building up the entire time until it force them to separate. There's no guarantee that if (and it's a definite if) Theodore and Amy Adams wind up together that they'll be as successful a couple as Theodore and Samantha were, but as Samantha showed Theodore, it's worth trying, because life is for the living.

Hopefully now people shut the hell up about Peyton Manning choking in big games. He owned the Patriots D all game.

I was quite pleased with that performance. Most of the folks I was watching with weren't, but I was.

Been red repped by the History. If I ever required validition for my posting skills, that'd be it, right there.

Well no job promotion for me it looks like. They filled 2 of the 4 spots that I applied for today, so I'm stuck taking phone calls for the rest of my life it appears.

So Bioshock Infinite just became available for free on PS+. I'm watching my roommate play right now and it's reminding me of how fucking awesome this game is. If you haven't played this game and have PS+, I strongly recommend giving it a go.

It's been available for at least a week, I downloaded that DMC, & Borderlands 2 last week. I started playing DMC this past weekend, when I'm done, bored, or get frustrated with that game I'll probably start Bioshock Infinite.

Im not really excited for Transformers 4, but I do like the fact I get to see Grimlock kick ass. Apparently Mike Patton is doing the voice.

Question is, why the hell would they hire someone famous to do a voice that consists of him saying "Me, Grimlock" & roaring? Could they not have just used stock audio from the old cartoon to save $ or are they going to fuck this up by having Grimlock actually speak multiple lines?

I'm excited to play DMC too, but Bioshock Infinite is so amazing that it's hard to pass up a second play through before getting to anything else.

It's unbelievable how bad they managed to fuck up that franchise, yet Fast and Furious continues to be successful.

What will be worse, Transformers 4 or TMNT?

TMNT. Everybody knows what they're getting with Transformers. We have no idea how disappointing TMNT will actually be.

Fast & Furious- 7 movies about fast cars. Transformers- 4 movies about fast cars that turn into robots & fuck shit up. How the hell is TF not a better franchise? Oh, yeah. Michael Bay. Justin is right, he is just going to keep fucking this up. By the time he gets to 7 Hasbro will probably sue him for destroying their franchise.

As far as TMNT, I have no hope, so if it fails I wont be sad. It is such an easy concept I am not sure why they insist on fucking with it. Keep it simple and give fans what they want. We dont need a reboot story or big changes to get newer generations into the franchise. I'll take the original movies and suits over whatever crap they are going to film for this new one.

What is really sad is the fact that the way things are going, Hollywood is going to try & fuck with all the good stuff by the time our kids are grown. Stuff like live action Family Guy and constant reboot\origin stories are going to happen unless people start coming up with better ideas before the current Hollywood regime ruins everything. Our only hope is that the existing crop of producers & writers die off before things get too out of hand.

When TMNT gets fucked beyond repair, a part of my soul will die. I have found the burial plot, the headstone has been ordered, all I need is a date to chisel on there.

I heard they want to reboot The Goonies, sick bastards.

If people keep supporting Seth Macfarlane a live action Family Guy is inevitable. Ted was fun and all but that kinda stuff needs to stop.

Unrelated note. My stepdaughter is watching this horrible show on MTV right now called Are You The One?

I think she's getting a kick out of me mocking it more than anything. They got this guy on there who's from Finley, ND.

When both my stepdaughter and I say at the same time: Where the fuck is Finley, ND? you know it's in the middle of fucking nowhere. Google Maps confirms it.

I will say this about DMC, they really like ramping up the ridiculousness of the missions extremely quickly. This is likely going to lead to me getting very frustrated with this game at some point.

I thought he decided to retire because Hollywood was bullshit. So he signs on to remake Goonies? That makes sense...

Today is shaping up to be a good day. I scheduled a job interview for Friday, dropped my suit off at the dry cleaner with the super nice married couple that works there, and then I picked up my fat stack of comics to read in an empty house. Even the hump day camel couldn't bring me down right now.

What's the job interview for?

A mental health technician at a mental facility. I'm not entirely sure what that job entails, but I think it's mostly helping the patients with their therapy and observing them for any odd behavior.

I'm kind of worried that it's basically the PC term for an orderly, in which case I'll probably pass on the job if it's given to me. But I'm holding out hope that it's a good job that's more on the therapy side of things than the manhandling people against their will side of things.

Edit: A little research has told me that it's mostly observing patients and making sure they're doing what they're supposed to. It sounds like you are a genuine help to the people you work with, and that's what I'm really looking to get out of this job in addition to some experience in the mental health industry.
